This channel is the real deal, the "Consumer Reports" of RUclips. This hand cleaner video I suggested to him about 6 months ago and he actually responded with "thanks for the suggestion". A couple of ideas:
    1. Best desiccant? Cat litter, silica, something else? I've seen some comparisons, but not a detailed one.
    2. Best oil absorbent when working on boats and cars? Cloths, sand, oil absorbing mats
    3. Most efficient coolant? (if you haven't already) Inc those water-free ones.

@@ProjectFarm a good test I would like to see on the topic of Oil absorbent cat litter/sand would be a simple pour and sweep. you spill some oil, pour the product on, wait for a set amount of time say 15-20min then sweep. to limit variables you could also pour the same amount of oil and same amount of oil absorbent. Another good test would be with a clear container put a set amount of oil and top it off with absorbent then let it sit 24 hours and measure how far up the oil was absorbed. Thank you for all your hard work we all appreciate it!

When I was a kid i had a little bottle of orange hand cleaner that went on as a paste and as you rubbed it it dried out, beaded up and fell off your hands leaving them dry and clean without a rag. I've been searching for that mystery hand cleaner for more than 15yrs since. I think recently I had an epiphany that the cleaner was probably ordinary gojo or fastorange, but from a bottle so old it had started drying out. I don't know for sure. I've tried a few experiments mixing gojo with pva glue because glue tends to bead up in the same way. That sort of worked similarly to how I remember but dried a little slowly for my liking. The search continues.

I definitely preferred Cherry Bomb to GoJo in the Air Force. Orange cleaners took over in the mid 1990s. Got to the point we couldn't get MEK or Triche anymore for the shop. Bottle of orange oil and cleaned up with alcohol. 🤠

I use Boraxo hand cleaner. Its a white powder , that must be used on wet hands. Mainly because it works with water. One thing you completely over looked is that some of the hand cleaners don't work well on cold hands, or wet hands. Not sure how you would test for that, but often my hands are cold and wet, and the grease does not come off with most of those you tested.
Thumbs up for your hard work!!

He probably would have to use pork skin to do that. I know tatoo artists and surgeons used the stuff to train with. So it should stand to reason that you could use it to simulate real human skin for these tests. Should be able to get a some of stuff from a local butchers.

To remove 5606 Hyd oil (very simular to ATF) I will cheat and use a chem (gojo) hand cleaner to start. I've tried a lot of variations and this works. Cheap as well, It don't take much.

    A haaaaaaa. HAND CLEANER!!!!!
Nice one. There's a little-known but life-changing bit of advice someone once gave me on day 1 as a 16-year-old trainee car mechanic, and that was how best to clean your hands at the end of every day in as careful a way as you can by inflicting as little damage as possible to your skin on a daily basis. He was an old boy, much older than usual retirement age, but was still working due to his own situations in life. He was a caring person, not like most other mechanics at the time. He said to me, always pull most of the dirt away from your hands onto a cloth first, and hence reducing or even completely avoiding harsher treatment like rubbing hands together and lathering and scrubbing with a brush, etc. That way, you can remove the majority of contaminants from your hands using much more skin-friendly hand soaps before even considering using any harsh chemicals at all. At 55, I still remember that fella, and still use a towelling flannel to this day, avoiding the use of hand cleaners. The cloth is then very easily cleaned using the same, sensitive soap as for your hands. Still enjoying working on my own bikes and cars now, probably one of the best pieces of advice I've ever had in my life. 🙂

Good experience. i don't use pumice cleaners for that reason, much to hard on the skin. So I've used Goop or Go Jo for a long time. Both of them want you to wipe dry, not use water, to retain the skin conditioners on the skin. A nail brush is mandatory, and mostly today I wash my hands in the sink rather than just wipe. Not all nail brushes are equal, so I've tried many different ones and found a shorter bristle length is better. A new brush design is out with a single row of bristles up against the plastic top so you can get deeper into the nail, it's helpful in getting the nails clean. Since I'm not a mechanic by trade, but do a lot of dirty car work as my hobby, I like to have super clean hands and nails, and so does my SO. 🙂. This was a good review, I may try the Zolex Cherry since it's top rated.

The white Permatex and original Gojo reminds me of my favorite, GOOP! Always used GOOP in the past with boraxo as the grit, never had any mess that it couldn't take care of. Use a spoon to dispense if you have dirty hands or it would turn to pure liquid and be hard to manage (but would still clean like nobody's business).

When I was a kid in the 60s and worked in a gas station, we used Kerosene mixed with a little tide detergent, then Had Boraxo hand soap. The Boraxo bar was green with gritty borax in it. Then in the late 70s and 80s we started using a Gojo product that had an orange smell to it. I now keep a product called Tub of Towels in my garage. You can pull one towel out and it cleans every type of dirt, grease, tar, glue that I have gotten on my hands and you don't need to wash with soap and water afterwards. Thanks for the comparison though. very thorough.

Very specific and detail oriented testing. At that time in 1994 the worst oil was Quakerstate followed by Penzoil and of course Amsoil taking the win. On that note, I’d love to see an episode about modular motorcycle helmets. You can find them ranging from $70 all the way to $800 or more and the way they flip up is an obvious possible area of failure that I think a lot of riders would be keen on seeing tested. It would be interesting to see if the expensive ones are actually built any better than the cheap stuff you can get.
