- Brands: Hefty, Glad, Kirkland, Amazon Basics, Reli, Neat, T.Foring, Full Circle, Commander, EKO, Perk, Steelcoat, Ox Plastics, HIPPO SAK, Tuff Bros, Hold On. Let’s compare a bunch of trash bag brands and find out which ones are leakers and which ones aren’t. We’ll also test a whole bunch of things like drawstring strength, puncture resistance, tear resistance, strength of the seam, gripping strength on the rim of the trash can, and more! By the end of this review, I believe you’ll be able to make a much more informed purchasing decision!

My guy is single handedly replacing consumer reports and I trust this cat more than I trust consumer reports tbh. Another great video that's directly applicable and brings value to my everyday life. Premium channel
He replaced consumer reports for me a couple years ago! haha This guy is the best.
CR has gone very much to upscale products. Tide laundry powder wasn't tested as the 'consumers' mostly use the pods.
I thought that they were to GUIDE you to the best products at a price point. Ignoring the least expensive alternatives helps who?
Consumer Reports has been taking manufacturers money for at least 20 years. They have never been trustworthy.
If there were a way to calculate a "dollar value" that somehow included ALL the benefits we gain from these videos individually; I can't even begin to imagine what that number might look like.
Consumer reports has been taking manufacturers money for decades now.
Fun fact: Kirkland Signature, and HDX are both made by Poly America in Grand Prairie, Texas. Their house brand is Husky, and they also make generic walmart's great value and sam's club member's mark, along with a few other generic brands. I'm a truck driver for Poly ;)
Poly America has multiple facilities. I used to pick up from one of theirs in Chester, SC. I only ever saw Husky in the trailer but that is probably because I delivered to Home Depot.
Thanks for the constructive feedback.
@saruwatarikooji You're right, they're also in chester and westminster sc, henderson nv, cottage grove mn, and la porte, tx. They have those locations to cut the shipping distance, and be closer to source materials
Please include Kirkland and sams club brands in your future tests
And their quality is phenomenal!
3.11M subscribers: If anyone wonders how Todd can afford to buy all this stuff, look no further.
And that's awesome: He's independent of the manufacturers and doesn't need their cash (or their free products) to rate their products. These tests are as objective as it gets.
One of the most satisfying, enjoyable, and honest YT channels there is.
Thanks! Among the 3.11M subscribers I am very grateful for the Patreons and Channel supporters to make these tests possible!
I can't believe I watched a 20+ minute on trash bags, yet not a single minute was wasted. I love Project Farm videos as there's no need to skip any part of the video, there's no BS to skip past. It's right down to business on every single test! Great job!
Thanks so much!
Me too man! One of my favorite channels on RUclips! I love the integrity of Project Farm!!
Not a single minute of a trash bag video was _wasted_? 😂
I can't even buy any of thoses trashbags, but still enjoyed the methodology
@@ThatMattWhite You caught onto my little pun, nice one! 😊
Todd, I think you are the only person on our planet that can make testing trashbags interesting to watch. Love your channel.
Thanks!
It's true. When I think about the stuff he has tested and I (along with all of us subscribers) have watched a 25-minute video thinking, 'yep, this is good stuff.' I gotta admit, though, what are people putting in their kitchen trash bags that we're testing nuts and bolts? They drive home the point about the respective toughness and durability. I don't want to jinx myself, but I shop at BJ's for most of my stuff, so I use their kitchen bags. So far, so good.
@@bikeny Think you broke a dish and tossed it in the bottom then jammed a bunch of milk cartons and cardboard on top... Then someone put something wet in there. Which bag is going to cut with the broken glass and leave a huge mess? Nuts and bolts was a good idea imo.
Everyone is joking, but this video is very helpful if you're someone who takes out most of the trash in your house. Nothing worse than a cheap bag ripping in the yard and you having to pick up everything that fell out.
Good Point!
Even worse if its the diaper pail bag.
Worse yet is having to pick everything up off the apartment building hallway floor. At least in the yard you can ignore the coffee grounds and such.
I feel validated on my passionate stance of K-Sig trash bags > everything
Try having to pick up a bunch of poop and pee diapers that just dumped out all over the bedroom floor because the diaper pail was too full while you were trying to pull the bag out. Worst smell ever.
This might be a long shot, but could you test dishwasher and/or washing machine detergent? Different brands, plus liquid vs powder vs pods? That would be so cool to see!
I seriously love your videos so much. Thank you for all that you do!
Thanks and you are welcome! Thanks for the suggestion.
Good one, our sewage cleaner guy says dont use pods or powder use liquid only as it cakes sewage.
Cascade Platinum. I just went through this personally, CLEAR winner.
This. And don't forget to fill the pre-wash compartment with the powder and liquid detergent.
Also, using two different dishwashers (a basic, cheap one and a high end one) would be interesting as well. Maybe paying the extra upfront cost of a high end dishwasher will pay itself over time by allowing cheaper detergent to get the dishes clean?
i reccomend checking out TechnologyConnections multiple videos on dishwashers and pods and liquid detergent. He doesn't pit brands against eachother but there are tons of ways to improve your washing even keeping the same brands.
I really don’t think you comprehend how excited I get when I see you upload the most “mundane” things. Like this is something I will have to buy for the rest of my life and I genuinely can’t wait to see who actually earns my money

@@ProjectFarm you should make a portable bandsaw video.
I would have to agree. The Kirkland follow the general Costco philosophy of best bang for the buck.
I wouldn't count on it. I know that after using them for years, the Kirkland paper towels have gone to crap. Now thin as toilet paper and no longer individually wrapped in the bundle.
My folks and I use Kirkland as well.

The Kirkland bags are under $20 for 200 bags in store. About $0.10 per bag. Definitely an amazing value.
Love Costco and their Kirkland Brand. For most products, they might not be the best, but they are definitely above average and definitely the best bang-for-the-buck IMHO.
Sams club has their bags at $0.08 per bag and I’m 98% sure they’re the exact same bag. They come out of the box the same, are the same color and texture, and have the same writing in the same place.
@@specialestness They aren't the same and are garbage compared to the Kirkland bags.

Yes, I just spent 23 minutes of my life watching trash bags be tested. So much more informative and rewarding than watching the news.

I work for Costco. I have liked a lot of the stuff in the Kirkland Signature line, but it's nice to see the brand be tested by you. You can't always rely on a single brand to make so many different things well. You have an amazing channel for helping people find a good product for their needs.
Thanks and you are welcome!
Kirkland to Costco seems to be the Kenmore/Craftsmen of Sears.
Most of the Kirkland labels are just main brands bought by Kirkland. I know for a fact that the Kirkland batteries are just Duracells, but cheaper because they have the Kirkland brand on them.
I was cheering for Kirkland bags - my favorite brand didn't screw up. Great thanks to PF for such an entertaining video! 😀

Us Alaskans buy everything from Costco so Kirkland it is. However we also have a full winter of dog poop to pick up in the spring. I now know that need some ox bags for over 100# of dog poop to pickup next month.
Just ran out of my box of trash bags. This couldn't have come out at a better time!

I spend more for the Husky 3 mil Contractor bags. 1 bag a week, and the trash always makes it to the dumpster and not all over the place. Great video!
Thanks!
Amazing results!
Thank you for the fun and realistic testing.
Thanks and you are welcome!
OMG I let out an audible sigh of relief when I saw that the test subject is trash bags! 😆
There is nothing worse than spending your time cleaning a big household mess, and the bag gives out as you are walking it out, and creates a 10x bigger mess.
Thanks for doing this!
You just buy the bag with the thickest (mil) measurement on the box. For example a decent Lawn and leaf bag will have a 1.5 mil. A better one is 2 mil and a cheaper one is 1 mil or under.
You are welcome!
Awesome review....better than consumer reports! 👍
I had a hefty bag of cat litter break open like 2 feet from my trash bag outside. Not fun
@@gags730 That's a completely unreliable way of measuring strength of a trash bag. There are many types of materials that are used for them, and their thickness just makes them stronger than the thinner ones of the same material, but says nothing about either the materials strength itself nor the quality of the making (being leakproof, weak seam etc.).
I can die a happy man. I actually smiled watching a grown man testing trash bags. I actually needed this. I go through a 30 piece box of Glad trash bags every week and and a half. I always bought "glad" bags. Now I might go for the others.
I always bought Hefty, and noticed a distinct drop in quality some years back. I've been swearing that they don't make them like they used to and this video seems to validate that belief. Time to switch.
Least wasteful american
You run a company or have a family of 10?? Lol
30 bags every week? At my house a box of thirty bags would last over three months, two used per week. We recycle whatever we can to reduce what goes into the bags.
@@stevebabiak6997I use them at two locations. One church campus and other computer repair and metal shop. Yep its alot. We buy bulk, so this was right up my alley. I'm the music director and computer engineer, but somehow got stuck with getting trash bags. I usually get stuff from BJs. At my home shop and house I might use 3 a week and dump it in the pickup trash can. In one weekend the church will go through 6 bags. Its about every 10 days 30 bags. Women throw away alot of stuff. Its more than men.

A very necessary video. Nothing sucks like having a bag of garbage blow out on the way to the dumpster.
Thanks! Good Point!
I have been a subscriber for years, back to the Seafoam in the Ranger tests. As a recently retired plastics engineer I have to say many of your tests are similar to industry tests. Tensil, tear, puncture all have ASTM standards used by everyone. One thing to consider is the thickness and formulation of the plastics in the bags. All bags are made to a pricepoint. Companies vary the resin mixes along with thickness to get the price they need to be competitive. At each of the manufactures I have worked at ( 8 by the way), they all have fit, leak and performance tests, similar but remarkably home made. Good Job on this review.
Lol yep... it's been crazy watching Todd evolve! I would watch all his vids... but I think the day we knew he was gonna explode, was the day he did the JB Weld Chain link video!!!
I dream about having the trash bag company CEO sleeping with 1 of their bags, full of water, hanging over their bed. Now THAT would be a test!
@@Bob_Adkins lol suddenly - bulletproof trash bags everywhere for 10 cents/piece!!! hahahahaha
If I remember my materials science course from way back in the stone ages, the strength of plastic is relative to the speed at which it is pulled. A fast pull doesn't give the chains long enough time to straighten out, whereas a slower pull will allow them to straighten out and then it is more difficult to shear them in the long direction (Or am I wrong?) I seem to remember the professor saying you can actually see it happen with your naked eyes as the plastic deforms and becomes thinner yet stronger.
Yes, those are the stretch marks you can see in the video when he is lifting up on them. Happens a lot as you mix recycled with stretchy resins. Everything is a comprimise.@@The3chordwonder

I put some adhesive hooks on my trash can and hook the cinch-strap to can to prevent bag slippage. That negates that test for me. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
I use the same Kirkland bags and have never had any problems with them. They hold on to my trash can very good never coming off the rim. Very rarely do the draw strings break but when they do it's because I pull on them way too hard. Great video and I'm glad you had the Kirkland's in there.
Thanks for sharing.
My dad and I usually watch this channel… but now it’s a family affair and my mom is hooked ! If only I could get Taryl Fix’s all and Mustie1 on her Sunday routine then I’ll be in heaven
Thanks for the feedback.
Love this video. Extremely practical review. Please keep reviewing high usage practical products.
Thanks! Thanks for the suggestion.
Keep up the great work, you're the best resource us consumers have ever had. Have you considered testing insulated lunch containers? Lots of options and I'm sure you could come up with creative tests.
Thanks, will do! Thanks for the suggestion.
I've been using the Kirkland bags for decades now and this puts a smile on my face.
Glad to hear!

Outstanding testing! A video for everyone. I never heard of a few of those brands. I like your puncture testing jig. A++
Thanks!
Would love to see a video doing comparisons of 3 view dash cams in the $50+ range. Dash cams should be mandatory in all vehicles imo. I feel lots of people would be interested to get some real life reviews of some affordable dash cams that can record forward, back and inside the car, to help have an additional and very critical layer of protection in case of an accident or vandalism/robbery/theft that could help prove your innocence in a car accident or convict someone of a crime or defending someone else's life from a self defense situation. Whatever the case everyone in the world would benefit from the use of a 3way dash cam. So a review of them would be a well welcomed episode.
Thanks for the suggestion.
