    Sorcerer Cleric does not lose spell slots. It loses access to those spells, but both are full casters.

  • @PierceArner
    @PierceArner 9 месяцев назад +61

    10 Storm Sorcerer / 2 Tempest Cleric is a pretty awesome mix because of the ability to maximize Lightning & Thunder damage with Channel Divinity. (And you can make up for the lack of a Level 6 Sorc spell with the Markoheshkir staff having Kreshka's Favour giving you Chain Lightning plus an Arcane Battery to cast that Lv6 spell twice per Short Rest).
    Even just dipping your toe in at 11/1 is still a spectacular combination because of the ability to use heavier armor and equipment that plays into Lightning/Thunder builds meant for the Tempest Clerics.
    A lot of multi-classing strengths radically change how strong they are when matching specific Sub-Classes together, whereas the classes may otherwise generally be a suboptimal exchange.

      9 Storm Sorcerer / 2 Tempest Cleric / 1 Wizard is what I'm playing right now. With Warped Headband of Intellect you don't need to spec into Int and you can scribe 4 spells of your choosing. Dual wielding Markoheshkir and Rhapsody with heavy armor is really fun.

    • @PierceArner
      @PierceArner 9 месяцев назад +4

      @@DefactoOverlord Oh, rad! Rhapsody seems like you could make some REALLY crazy builds around it, especially with multi-ability spellcasting. I never thought about picking up Wizard because I ended up being hyper specialized into my small set of spells around Lightning & Thunder with Radiant & a couple Force damage spells. Call Lightning allowing a recast for 10 turns and being able to upcast it just makes that SUCH an insanely powerful tool. For feats I just took Spell Sniper to get Eldritch Blast as the best high level cantrip for damage especially because it multi-hits, and Dual Wielding for a very different offhand weapon.
      For equipment, I dual wield Markoheshkir with the trident Nyrulna because its passive negates fall damage, can't be disarmed, and acts as a permanent light source on my character, which both makes the Tempestuous Magic flight really advantageous with basically zero risk even if you get displaced (so long as it's not into the abyss) and makes the Coruscation Ring & Callous Glow Ring effects constantly active riders on all your individual spell hit damage sources from casts. Along with the Boots of Stormy Clamour & Gloves of Belligerent Skies, you can just hit an obscene number of things at once and stack Radiant Orb & Reverberation on them. With the Thunderskin Cloak, it means anything not knocked prone yet with Reverberation has to save when attacking you while having worse saves & attacks.
      I typically have Shadowheart or Gale drop a high level Create Water which allows you to electrify that water and chain Lightning damage through multiple wet targets for double damage AND the surface activates all those status effects on everyone hit - which is a tactic you can max out when you REALLY need to with the Tempest Cleric's Destructive Wrath Channel Divinity on something like a Twinned Chain Lightning cast for free with Arcane Battery, and then Quick Cast it again as a Bonus Action. You can easily just one-shot the Steel Watcher Titan and all 3 Hellfire Watchers before they even move, like they're mere children's toys.
      The Psychic Spark necklace means you get access to a Lv6 Magic Missile from the Lv5 spell slots you get capped at by losing the 2 levels of Sorcerer, as that spell enables you to be able to just hammer a single target with an overwhelming amount of the per-hit damage status riders to max out status effects and chip damage to functionally incapacitate a single target forever like Raphael, open combat against a big group with Distant Spell to hit a bunch of spread out targets, but especially to chew through the Bhaalist enemies or Slayer Orin with the Unstoppable status as quickly as possible.
      The Cleric armor proficiencies mean you've also got a bunch of different options for armor that are otherwise off the table for a pure Sorcerer really early on like the Luminous Armor for insane up close Radiant Orb AoE that stacks stat status _far_ past the regular limit or the Jolty Vest to make attackers hitting you vulnerable to yet _another_ status and get Shocked if have Lightning Charges. Both mean it's beneficial to draw aggro because the enemies get weaker for attempting to hit you, and Cleric gives everything needed with that extra HP for durability and advantageous AC. (Plus, Necromancy of Thay and the Tharchiate Codex gets you 20 Temp HP every day as an extra barrier).
      The Helm of Balduran also boosts that to a massive degree to make you just a crazy powerhouse that's also regenerating health every round as well as being totally immune to Stunned & Critical hits. (Plus, you get it from Ansur, the Heart of the Storm which is the most thematically appropriate item ever). All together, it makes you a monumental threat to anything hitting you at all or even coming close to you without needing extra actions, and being overwhelming with Haste. Plus, you can carry the Hellfire Engine Crossbow for Lightning Arrow when you don't want to drop a spell slot on an attack but want to keep with the same tactics or even pull in a target at you and away from your allies since the Dex saves of anything you attack are constantly obliterated, which also makes your Temptest Cleric Wrath of the Storm reactions even more potent.
      (The build came out of my first run as a Lv12 Storm Sorcerer where I had this loadout but with the Potent Robe as armor, Lifebringer / Gibus of the Worshipful Servant as a helm, and a +1 Light Crossbow because as pure Sorc meant that I never really had necessary proficiencies to really get the most out of the other Storm themed equipment for the build. Those 2 levels of Tempest Cleric essentially just stack SO MANY specific and scaling advantages to really max out that approach I was taking that there's essentially zero downside at all to losing the 2 levels of Sorc for what you gain in return).

    Just adding to the chorus that the Tempest Cleric Subclass or the Evocation Wizard Subclass can easily make a Sorcerer massively better even if you’re not using metamagic tricks to boost your Sorcery points. It’s a bit Multi Attribute Dependent, but itemization & careful spell picks make up for that.

    I went with 6 Storm Sorcerer and 2 Evocation Wizard. This way I can do big AOEs without hurting team mates and learn spells from scrolls, gives me versatility. My biggest issues are endurance as I consume a lot of spells.
    I’m looking at not going to 10 on sorcerer and throwing 1 into another class to get xtra proficiencies.

    Love these rundowns.
    If you really need that 3rd (4th?) Quicken Spell for the day, you can always sack a spell slot for the meta points - wouldn't let that stop a multiclass option.

    I've done a 9 Sorc/2 Warlock/1 Wizard. EB does the heavy lifting for damage, and you have plenty of spell slots to throw out CC or to consume for more EB. I'd skip out on Hex, because I noticed its awkward setting up Hex for later turns, most things will do from a double volley of EBs.

    Everyone mentioning 2 cleric 10 sorc in comments but my favorite build so far has been 2 cleric 2 wizard 8 sorc with first and last point in wizard and maxing intelligence/dex over charisma. I just take ONLY utility spells from sorc and make sure to learn all my lightning spells as wizard from scrolls so they all have INT modifier (can’t learn scrolls if you already have spell from other classes so you want to ensure you have wizard version of anything that does damage). This way all your utility spells are always prepared and on bars, but you have 6 slots to switch in any damage spell from wizard. Then for the memes I take duel wield feat for both of the act 3 staves for arcane battery and free rank 6 necro spell after every kill. You’re still primarily relying on tempest and lightning damage, but a free rank 6 spell is a free rank 6 spell and having 2 points into wizard means I can switch in a water myrmidon and a deva summon after every long rest (and a mummy/ice mephits if I want 5 summons), then just switch out the spells back to damage. Utility from learning scrolls is too good not to dip into wizard and this build basically takes away charisma requirement on everything but call lightning spell which you won’t use anyway with everything else rolling INT. People might argue charisma and 10 sorc is better but utility of wizard is unmatched imo and can do same thing with more options available. Tl;dr: best sorc is INT based wizard with sorc passives and channel divinity
    Edit: this also lets you wear any armor and take evocation passive so you aren’t nuking your own team with lightning damage as well. Also duel staves feels incredibly lore friendly for Gale. Works really well with an alert spore Druid, every combat just haste spores on sorc, sleet of ice on enemies, cancel sleet of ice immediately so it melts then sorc will always start turn with double damage on basically everything, haste, and no using actions to setup water first. Oh and you have guidance. Incredibly OP.

    You’re wrong about not getting the extra attack on honor mode with the pact of the blade warlock. On honor mode the extra attack the pact of the blade has just doesn’t stack with other classes extra attack like it does in every other difficulty.

    • @marcosdheleno
      @marcosdheleno 2 месяца назад

      exactly, its more for fighters/paladins. it still give you extra attack, it just doesnt mix if the multiclass already have extra attack, in the same way you dont get extra attack from going fighter and paladin.
      which is why i think going 8/4 paladin warlock ends up better in honor mode, as the extra feat can give you some really interesting utility.

    With barbarian there are The Reason's Grasp that if one chooses to end their rage they'll get 15 temp hp. Along with Bonespike Garb which gives 15 temp hp when raging. That might pair well with a barbarian/sorc who may need to pop in and out of their rage and could generate around 30 hp total.

Man, if I could be “master dev” for a day it would be for custom world, an option for up to lvl 15, no one class higher than 12 so you could properly multi class in either 2 or 3 but not “break” the feats

    I'm a noob so the opinion I'm about to share should carry absolutely no weight.... Sorcerer is the least useful and unique of all the classes because everything it does is also done by someone else and they probably do it better. I really REALLY wanted to like Sorcerer but it was quite the let down, I only got it to level 5 and currently my highest level is a 7 so I'm serious about being a noob and I hope that it's just because I'm a noob without a level 12 to try it on that I have this opinion.

Way of the open hand gives you bonus force/necrotic or radiant damage depending on your wisdom ( i got 5d8, ridiculous) there are boots who add your wisdom modifier to damage and it adds the modifier to their AC so absolutely not, monks LOVE wisdom.
