My Mum was from Ghent, Belgium...so another country on my bucket list plus meet family I’ve never met! 👍🏍🍺🇿🇦
Tintin! And the belgian beer, wonderful! Belgian blue, those big cows. And the ride from Luxemburg through the Ardennes. Marvelous!
Belgium by any criteria you would like to throw at it, has the best beer in the world; some of the most marvellous bread; very affordable restaurants; totally unintimidating bars, with delightful staff - utterly unlike any French city - and you can sit, or stand, where you choose without being charged extra for the privilege/mistake/honour. In summary, it is a very relaxed and totally worthwhile country, full of history, especially recent, to visit. and enjoy.
Great to see you and Mrs Flyer touring on the 'wing' in Europe, great weather and empty roads (even the motorways) what's not to like.
Indeed!
Definitely doing Belgium a dis service. It’s a beautiful country, really friendly people, good food, good beer and if you’ve never spent time in Ypres you don’t know what you’re missing.
Love Ypres go there at least 3 times a year to see my great grandad who died in Ypres on his 21st birthday
Ghent is a beautiful place as well
@@bizzie1956 I always feel a genuine deep sense of sorrow when I think about all the young men who had their whole lives taken from them for no reason whatsoever in WW2, but thankfully your Grandad left something behind. I salute you for visiting regularly, because so often it feels like their sacrifice was for nothing and is totally forgotten.
Yeah, but boring roads vs Germany and the alps
@@tompage8674 It's not always, 'Just About The Roads' it's deeper than that, it's about the culture, the landscape, food, people and the atmosphere you experience whilst being there. I spent 3 years in Holland many years ago and some people may consider Holland not to have much to offer in terms of roads but you have to look at the bigger picture. 👍
Belgium is a mecca for cyclists ( as well as chocolate, beer and chips, of course!); famous for various one day classic races....Great people and good vibes....
Yes thoroughly enjoyed our time there!
Bienvenue a France et les autres pays🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷✌️
Ah, the Citadel of Namur....used to host Motocross, now hosts Cyclocross.
And Belgium has some of the best breweries and beers around; and probably the home of cycling.
Great to be on tour again I’ll bet🤓😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦 looking forward to see all the new stuff to see. Happy cruising on the wing 🥂
Thank you John!
You have a lot to discover, beer, chocolate, Belgian fries with tartare, waffles, nice tour and a beautiful Goldwing!👍
Belgium is also well known for excellent chocolate. And this comes from somebody living in Switzerland.
Great video !!
Excellent Manuel - can't believe I forgot that, I love the stuff! Although these days it seems to be going downhill a little...
love the way they greet each other with sticking the leg out
Nice to see a Tracer 900 GT keeping up with the big boys. Thanks your review, I bought one in 2019. 35000 km and going strong.
A Trecer or a 'Wing?
@@TheMissendenFlyer Sorry for the wrong reply, I thought it was a mate's channel(!). I guess it's the age. Humble Tracer 900 GT. I wish I could afford a Wing. Thanks for the reply.
Cannot believe you went through Belgium!! Without a mention of some of the best beer in the world! And also for the ladies, the best Chocolate in the world, nice video 👍
Why only for the ladies!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Because it keeps them busy while you drink the beer 🍺 lol 😂
TMF team, Namur, famous for hosting Moto x GPs from 1957 - 2007, some scary jumps on the circuit. Have fun on your tour.
Belgian ardennes ........brilliant riding country .
Military museum at Bastogne ( Battle of the bulge ) well worth a visit
That must be so satisfying blasting down the highway on the Goldwing.
It is - perfect bike for this sort of caper…
As i recover from cancer surgery watching this gives me hope . 1986 Goldwing but looking for a smaller bike for short distance touring.
Thank you for this vid.
Thanks for watching Tom - so sorry you're going through that, here's wishing you a full recovery.....
Lovely to see Helen and her….. Ian again! ;-)
Ooh fancy seeing you here! …cheeky!! 😘
Absolutely splendid!
You mentioned once that your tour vids get a lot fewer clicks, but I myself like them best. Can't wait for the next episodes!
Good to hear! Plenty more to come!
@@TheMissendenFlyer I have to agree, the bike reviews can be a bit, same old, same old, everybody starts reviewing the new bikes but with your bike tours they are unique and you can immerse yourself in them. I loved your Norway tour, one of, if not the best tour video you've done. 👍
Thank you - I enjoy making them! Hopefully lots more to come.....
I SO WISH I LIVED in Europe! The vicarious ride makes me glad and sad at the same time! Stay safe my friends!
Yes !
A couple days too late to comment , but I already like it 😁
Looking forward to this serie 🏍💨💨💨💨
More to come!
Thanks Mr Flyer for taking us your journey in Europe on your Honda Goldwing. I had to laugh when you going down to Belgium instead of up. I travelled to Belgium but I went Calais, Dunkirk then Bruges, Ghent and Brussels. The Germany then into Holland. However I don’t have luxury of your Honda Goldwing. I did it old fashion way I hitchhiking. Can’t wait to see more of your amazing journey
I love tent camping but I also love how the further into Europe you go the better the hotel room prices get. I've stayed in some great places in Slovakia and Ukraine.
Love these films that you do, can't beat bike touring!
Glad you like em!
Namur, home to one of the worlds greatest motocross tracks.
I lived in Belgium for 10 years, I think of it as my second home. The Belgain Ardennes is fantastic for biking. Don't forget Belgium is famous for beer... lots and lots of brewery's. I'll be following this tour with special interest. Hope you enjoy 🙂
I'll second that, lots of tanks here and there if the battle of the bulge is your thing and I hope you got to try the Kwak beer
Leffes on draught in Wetherspoons 😉
I know all about Kwak!!! Never again!!!
Many years back..fab Xmas market trip to Bruges with friends…learnt the hard way in a small bar that you can’t work your way through the plethora of local bottled beers.. 😵💫
@@TheMissendenFlyer haha. from this trip or a previous one?
Me and the Misses enjoyed Belgium.
We stayed in Brussels, visiting in-laws, the Grand Place and a day trip by train to Bruges and the sea. I am looking forward to a return visit.👍🏻
Yes Bruges is beautiful isn’t it….
Awesome, I hope you've been able to enjoy some of the wonderful beers they have in Belgium. Great ride!
…..oh yes!
I lived in a little town in Belgium called Doitche for a year just 40 odd miles south of Namur. We found the people of Belgium some of the nicest and most generous in Europe. We were the only Americans living in this small town and we were made felt right at home.
We traveled almost 40,000 miles during the year but unfortunately in my car traveling all over Europe every free moment.
It's fabuloius isn't it - a much overlooked gem....
The tour videos are great, especially with Mrs Flyer and friends. Look forward to watching the series.
Glad you like ‘em Darryl!
Chunnel is such a great option into Europe. Beer, you forgot Belgium has oodles of beers.
how could you forget that Belgium is where the Smurfs were created. Great work TMF, looking forward to more.
Oops - silly me!!
What fun for Mr Flyer and pals. I sometimes wish I was more adventurous, but at least I can enjoy your fabulous trips. :>)
Just be thankful the train was dry, was soaking wet when I did it, which brings a whole new level of enjoyment
Hi. Great video quality am looking forward to the next episode 👍
Coming on Saturday!
I love these motorcycle tour videos it’s my favorite content from your channel.
Brilliant - glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!
As a 'Winger' I am really pleased to see the bike out and about doing what it was designed for! You look happy to be there.
I'm the other way round ... off to UK for six weeks on my wing from Spain for some cooler wetter weather and the ubiquitous pot holes just for a change. 43° here last week so I gotta go.
Looking forward to your second vid. Be safe👌
Nice one Stu - althought the riding here is pants compared to Spain....I'd stay where you are!! Whilst you are here make sure and do the Lake District, Wales, Scotland, Peak District and Yorkshire for the best riding the UK has to offer - avoid the Suuth East......enjoy the Wing!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks Andy. I do it most years but this'll be the first on the wing.
All the best.
Great episode TMF. It did tickle me when you clarified that Mrs Flyer isn’t a ponderous old beast, it was the bike you were referring to. Looking forward to the next!
Thanks for watching!
With comments like that and Carol on the intercom you are lucky you didn't end up with broken ribs
I was on lunch break when I heard that bit. Almost choked on my sandwich. "Whoa, Andy's a bit savage! Oh, I see" 😁
I wonder If Andy had a clip round the ear for that one 🧐😂
Again a topic video tour on your tour, I’ll really envy you that bike, in a really good way. Love seeing you videos, 👍🏼🇩🇰
Thanks for watching!
Thanks from Athens, Alabama in the USA. You had some decent folks along the way to show you how to be. Kudos to you and to them!
Great to see you both 'on the road' again. Belgium is a beautiful country, but fully aware that sometimes you just have to crunch the miles in to get to the good bits. Happy riding.
Yes true
Wow I almost bought a Goldwing recently actually as a bit of a joke to do a 5000km trip down the east coast of Australia , I hauled and bought a Ducati diavel and regretted it. Now I’m on the lookout for a wing, your clip confirms it
Great to see you and Carole on tour again. If I see you at the ABR Festival I’ll say hello again.
Yes see you there Gareth!
On of the best things and most famous in Belgium : Spa Francorchamps. Amazing track 👍
With regards Helite - many find them too hot especially when working hard on track. They do have great coverage but no use at all if not worn. Check out the Ixon or Furygan vests that you can wear under your normal gear. Since they don't need to be covered in slide proof material they are a lot lighter and more breathable 👍
By definition I don’t think an airbag can be breathable!
Indeed not but its folded up so only about 1" wide over each shoulder before inflation.
17:23 "and she's a ponderous old beast at slow speed" !! 🤣
Fantastic! Good to see you all having a great time.
Cheers Jon - always good to hear from you....
Great to see you back on tour on the mighty Goldwing with your better half TMF hahaha. i need to get serious about doing a bike tour of Europe and the UK, your tours always look amazing
Thank you!
Fantastic vid! Lovely scenery! I did have to have a chuckle when you were commenting on the ‘wing being a ponderous old beast at slow speed, accompanied by the clarifying text on screen! Great stuff! Looking forward to the next part!
Another great vid. Next time you go to Belgium visit Ypres and the Menin Gate, beautiful and emotional.
Nice bike tour! Thanks for sharing👏👍
Thanks for watching Walter!
Looks lovely, enjoy your trip you lucky bugger
Thank you Cavin, we did!
The Goldie is in a class of its own.
Sure is....but I've yet to ride the new K1600!
@@TheMissendenFlyer That's a video I'm really looking forward to.
So great to see you and Mrs Flyer out on a tour Andy. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Cheers Lee - it was long overdue!
Autoroute services are generally of two types in France, Aires de repos are essentially a car park with a public toilet, though the cleaning seems to be random as these are unmanned sites. Aires de service are more like U.K. services areas with much better food, clearly indicated on autoroute approach. There is a charge to use the toilets, 70 cents or maybe a Euro. Keep the ticket, if you use the restaurant or shop there is a part refund on presentation of the ticket usually 50cents. Go to the toilet first then eat. Same in Germany, excellent service areas, best services I have ever visited was in Germany, hyper clean, excellent food reasonably priced. Unfortunately I can not remember the location, I’ve tried. Services in Belgium tend to be large or very large petrol stations with refreshments often automated.
On a personal note, I avoid using Aires de repos, they are used by truck drivers as cheap unserviced overnight stops and there is usually evidence of calls of nature. Sadly these days much like the M20, where truck drivers are deprived of food, water and modern sanitary services, I imagine ReesMogg would describe that as a brexit benefit!
Thanks for the info!
So happy to see this series starting. I’ve missed your tour videos. And I’m glad you’re traveling through France, so I don’t have to. Thanks again.
Thanks Marco - I’d missed them too!
Great video Andy looking forward to the next instalment.
Great to see you out and about!
Hi Mrs & Mr Flyer.
Great video as always. I just love crossing the channel & turning LEFT. More should do it, as the Benylux countries are so great & friendly 🤗
PS - Mrs Flyer needs to give you a slap!! Regarding you comments at 17:26....
"... feeling a bit concerned about getting down here, the bike is heavily laden; and of course we've got Mrs Flyer on the back - 'and she's a ponderous old beast at slow speeds'...." 😱😱
Your wife looks stunning & slender, not a 'ponderous old beast' at all 🤗
😂🤣
PPS - It was great to see you at this years ABR Festival 😎
#TravellingWizzard
Cheers Kevin - you at next years festival?
I live in Dallas, Texas and these European travel videos make me jealous. I could leave my house in Dallas and 650 miles later still be in the great state of Texas. Even worse, the temperatures would hover at around 100 degrees F (38C) the entire way. Oh, and I wouldn't pass a single Chateaux!
Isn’t Southfork like a chateau?!
I was thinking the same!
@@rwfrwf100 - That made me laugh outloud! Thank you!!!
Great intro to the series. Looking forward to see how the tour unfolds.
Thank you for watching!
Yes another Tour, nice one Mr Flyer! It looks so easy to do, it’s a credit to all the behind the scenes work you do! Thank you 🙏
Thank you Matt - appreciate that!
Great video took me back to the 1990s...Great to see the French bogs are still Premier league.
They're not all like that to be fair....
Belgium - big role in both World Wars. Tin tin, the fictional character. A significant number of beers ...
Yes good points!
ponderous old beast at slow speeds! Poor Carol 🤣 Enjoyed that Andy 👍
Careful Chopsy, you’re lining yourself up for a slapping!
Happy to see you (and Mrs. Flyer) on tour again. Glad to see someone was having nice weather at the end of May. Here in the Pacific NW (US) it has been wet and colder than normal. Look forward to the next chapter. As always safe travels.
Sorry to hear you're having British Weather....time to head South on the bike?
It sure has been, still waiting for even just a few days in a row of reasonable weather. Been a tough year for a fair-weather rider.😕
I'm a 'northerner' (well, Cheshire) and have been through the Chunnel many times, but always in the luxury of Eurostar, sipping something nice and enjoying a lovely meal at a super smooth 200mph St Pancras (Waterloo my first time!) to Paris Gare Du Nord or Bruxelles. Midi. Those car carrying vans look a bit utility! My foreign bike forays have always been by ferry, cross-channel or Plymouth - Santander. But isn't it nice riding on the continent, even on the motorways, with such little traffic compared to Blighty? And the good surfaces are like we used to have before 12 years and counting of Austerity. Oh, and the main thing Belgium is famous for is..... BEER! It's excellent!
Indeed Vince - time to move to episode two, you have some catching up to do!
Some stunning roads there towards the end. Look forward to the other videos in this series 👍
I noticed there are more cabover trucks in Europe. They were once very common in the United States. It's quite rare to see cabover trucks anymore in the United States.
How strange.....and I'm guesing as to what one of those is....
I’m late to the party as always Andy. Great series and agree that Luxembourg is fabulous. Was there end of June and it was great especially as we landed there for Luxembourg day which was crazy. Oh, and we stopped in the same hotel as you guys!
Cool!
Thanks, I love the tours.
Good to hear - plenty more to come on this one!
There is an amazing gorge in the middle of Luxembourg city centre that is well worth taking a look at. I visited most of the western European countries in the early 90's. If I remember rightly, I slept in the upstairs of a goat barn just on the outskirts of the city.
In case you're wondering, I was hitch hiking around Europe at the time......
Enjoy the break,cheers.
Looking good TMF! Trip looks fantastic so far and looking for to the other episodes.
Thanks Julian - always good to hear from you!
Flyer is back on Tour!!
Yay!!
I really enjoyed this TMF!! feels like it’s going to be a great series! 😁😁😁
Thanks James!
The channel tunnel/train experience looks awesome. Glad to see you using your Goldwing to its potential.
Yes it's a brilliant machine for 2 up touring - albeit a bit awkward on the train!
Luxembourg is a beautiful country, Mullerthal area (a.k.a. little Switzerland) is worth a visit.
It really is!
I do a trip to Luxembourg and Germany regularly as I only live 30mins from the tunnel, it's quicker for me to go for some decent roads across the channel than the UK. I do the first leg on the M-way just past Lille then drop into the Ardenne, so it's only 2 and a bit hrs of M-Way then twisties all the way. It makes for a long old day but it's about 6hrs of pretty much deserted twisty roads through the forests and along riversides...
Nice one - great idea too rather than tracking up to Wales and beyond…
Lovely TMF, nice vid. The title made me think this was going to be some sort of mad dash & frankly not very TMF like but now's it's clear. Looking forward to the next installment.
From all my travels all over the world in the military, Belgium makes the best chocolate, and getting chips there is AWESOME, which you have to have mayonnaise!!!
Stay tuned!
Good video, our little touring group were in Belgium visiting Brugge and Ostend just over 2 weeks ago. Brought back happy memories watching.
We plan to do Luxembourg and Holland next year.
Enjoy the trip.
Cheers!
Enjoy it! I'd love to do this some day.
Yes road trips are great fun....
The bike - Not Mrs flyer! 🤣 That was classic. My wife was wondering what you were trying to say. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Ride safe and keep up the great content.
Cheers JJ!
As a newcomer to TMF I've thoroughly enjoyed binging on yer videos, particularly all your reviews and thoughts on the new Goldwing - the fact you bought one kinda says it all! Having never thought it was a bike worth looking at I'm now saving patiently/contemplating selling an organ to fund my own GW Tour (insert fingers crossed emoji here) thanks for your cracking real world thoughts Mr Flyer, much appreciated ps also found Teapot one on youtube so Christmas has come early, who knew there was decent stuff on youtube ........
Welcome to the 21st century Baldy!
Chocolate, Beer, and Audrey Hepburn was born there.Enjoy your ride amigos🏍🇸🇪👍
Crikey - I had no idea about Ms Hepburn!
Can’t wait to see the rest!
Next episode on Saturday….
Nice start of the trip in France and Belgium. Reminds me of my big OE around 1980 hitching around France , Belgium , Holland etc. Looks comfortable on the Gold Wing.
The most comfortable bike in the solar system! ....possibly beyond!
Great video. Bring on the next episode!
Coming on Saturday!
Probably a bit late to mention it Mr Flyer but Namur used to be one of the best motocross tracks in Europe/ world.
From memory they have to ride through the citadel and I think they had to ride on some bitumen road.
Just a bit of motorcycling trivia I guess.
Keep up the good work mate 👍
It's a bit more than trivia (imho anyway!), the Namur citadel is one of the iconic locations of world Motocross championship history, and Motocross is the most popular form of Motorsport if measured by actual participation!
Great track, during the 1988 race Hakan Carlqvist stopt while leading to drink a beer (and won).
That’s was a quick recovery. Ponderous old beast! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great vid Andy!
Definitely missed your tour series 🏍️🙂
With respect……you’re touring over there is like our going shopping in the Land Down Under. In saying that, I’d love to have a bike ride over in the British isles.
Fair enough - one day I will get to experience riding down under....thanks for watching, and good luck with the shopping!
Just good to see people travelling again. Such a great feeling.
We are due our first trip on the chunnel next week and can't wait.
Similar direction, too.
Belgium much overlooked, I think. But for a short break it's tops. You forgot to mention the Belgian beer.
But good start team TMF.
Happy travels 👍
Yes, all that “white beer” they do - horrible!!!
Finally, another TMF tour!
Yay!!
Hi Andy and Carol , beautiful trip , The blue field might be Flax rather than lavender:)
Dont forget the WW1 battle field sights when you there , Fascinating and moving too
Another great vlog and the image quality is superb.
Thank you very much - appreciated!
Enjoyed the first instalment Andy!
Good company, good weather, accomm, food and beer..what’s not to like.
Hope to see you at the ABR Festival 23rd.
Atb
See you there for sure Alan - come and say hello to me and Mrs Flyer if you see us wandering about.....
You must have been there a very similar time to me Andy. I did the Ardennes 20-23 May on my Tiger 900 - loved it 👍
Yes we were there 17th-24th…wonder if we saw you!
A great tour on a great bike. We stayed in Namur a few tours back…. Lovely place shame you weren’t able to visit the citadel. Done Luxembourg again great roads and Luxembourg City is a good place to visit. We stayed in Vianden like Matlock bath on steroids …. Great castle great cable car ride to it and walk back great hotel. Looking forward to part 2 ….. fwiw we are off to Colditz in a few weeks
Cool! Stay tuned - you will recognise some places we visit....
