That carb problem , is a good reason to practice dead stick approach and landings. Carol's reaction the the " I like a good MATZ penetration" comment was exactly as expected. BTW, I don't think it is a good idea, to tell the missus, that the new bike has a bigger and wider pillion seat 😂

Suspension is a "black art" I recently stiffened the compression & rebound damping on my T7 to settings recommended by an Enduro school that runs a fleet of them. Strangely enough that made the ride noticeably smoother on the road, which may be counter intuitive, but I guess it's all about allowing the tyres to follow the contours of the tarmac.

Good vid - thanks. I’ve driven the 303 more times than I can count. Most of the time the traffic is caused by muppets who won’t merge in turn when the road narrows to single lane. Outside the high season it’s a nice drive. Stone Henge heading west is a lot better since they closed the road that used to go across the plain and cause huge tailbacks while people waited to turn right!

I'm enjoying the different series you have on this channel. The flying stuff brings back memories. I partly grew up in Oakley, a couple of miles from Basingstoke, but worked at the AA in Basingstoke, based at The Durie Centre. It has been a long time since I've lived in the UK, but the tower block you mention might be the old Fanum House which belonged to the AA for many years. Back when I worked at the AA the security used to let me go to the observation deck at the top of that tower, where I'd use my CB radio for half an hour. The signal could reach for miles!
I did take my car and motorcycle tests in Basingstoke. The town is nicknamed doughnut city for all of its roundabouts.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  Год назад +1

Excellent! I too was a CB Radio fan back in 1981 (remember "CB/27/81"?) - I bet the signal banged out from there for miles - great in skip conditions....

    • @OldDogZeroTricks
      @OldDogZeroTricks Год назад

@@TheMissendenFlyer I wasn't aware of CB/27/81 at the time. I just had a 40-channel (+ Mids) rig at home with an amplifier and subtle aerial on my roof, and a 40-channel handheld for walking around. Met people from various walks of life. It was within a couple of years of selling my GPX 750 (back to bikes) and enjoying a second-hand Renault 5 GT Turbo.
I hope you get to test ride the 2023 Niken GT when that launches. I'm curious what reviewers like yourself think of the changes. I enjoyed your review of the current Niken. Cheers.

Hi , Greetings from Ireland, I used to live about 15 / 20 miles from Basingstoke and grew up around that area and that tall building originally was the UK headquarters for the AA (Automobile Association not Alcoholics Annonomous !!) .... don't know what's in there these days but everyone my age still refers to it as the AA Building . I was over myself on the bike a few weeks back visiting family and turned off the m4 and cut across and picked up the A303 .... I do like that road on a bike but unfortunately as you mentioned it was the tail end of Solstice so place was heaving and traffic was awful all on a stinking hot day ..... but secretly still enjoyed it 👍

I've cycled past Compton Abbas airfield a number of times when I lived near, but never stopped there until last weekend when myself and Mrs SteveW were out on my Interceptor for a little two-up ride. Heading eastbound, just a few miles before Stonehenge, there is an iron age hill fort called Yarnbury or Varnbury depending on which map you have.
You get to it via an unmarked lay-by along the 303, on the crest of a ridge.
Park up, hop over the gates, and you're there.

The A30 is a lovely road to ride/drive. Slower than the A303 unless its the summer holidays. Plenty of good pubs on the A30 for a lunch stop. You'll enjoy it 👍. Great to see a Concorde up close, 102?, even if it is still full of all of the flight recording computers!! Plenty of other interesting flying machines - military mostly, too and a mimic of a Naval Flight deck on board an aircraft carrier, quite clever. Really glad we added it to our southern tour, used the A303... stayed at Exeter for the night. Then past Truro and out to the coast at St Agnes. From there we walked along the coastline from St Agnes to the Perranporth airfield!! Hope you did the reverse hike!!

Nice to see you on my local roads, you passed fairly close to my place. That tower block is home to the AA, the A34 Basingstoke to Reading is my daily commute, as for visiting, Basingstoke town center is much of a muchness , but Milestones living museum is worth a visit.

    Enjoying very much this video
glad the plane landed without the engine dying when rolling out
interesting about your first service at 600 miles
you and I have owned about the same number of bikes which is to say far too many
but here in the United States the Gold Wing has its first service at 4000 miles
everybody argues about that all the time but
you and I have exchange the oil at 600 miles in every bike we've ever owned
but that really is strictly forbidden for the Gold Wing by the manufacturer
I'm sure many don't pay attention to that
I am this time and I hope I don't regret it
the bike is amazing and I love that color you have
I have the 22 in black
can't wait for the next installment
    have a marvelous weekend
the best to your entire family, always

There's a hotel at Church street in Amesbury, only a few stonethrows from Stonehenge, where the Beatles lived whilst recording the film "Help".
Me and my son stayed there some years ago. We went to see the Battle of Hastings (in week 42), Dover castle, Stonehenge, Salisbury Chatedral and Bath. And all the bits between! A military museum not far from there....nice place!

Andy your making me home sick ! Stonehenge area is home to me! I know that road well and I remember crashing my GS 1,000 Suzuki on the A303 when I came down the slip road from Andover to find oil or chemical on the road the police said all over the outside lane dodgy time but really miss it as we only get down once a year now from the dreaded north where I now live reluctantly so much better down that end .The wing is looking amazing love that electric blue colour she looks mighty fine .👌👍

'Ere Missenden - just woke up with a thought - why not do a Travel Vlog to an aviation museum such as Sywell, Old Warden, Cosford, Yeovilton, Caernarfon and Duxford etc? Get a bite to eat and then take us around your favourite exhibits, than ride home, summing up the experience on the way. Then you're combining your two favourite hobbies and broadening your channel.

Very enjoyable vlog. I used to live in Hook until last December (now Martock, Somerset) and so visited Basingstoke often. Much maligned but for me, a reasonable place with pretty much everything one needs although I would perhaps not make a special visit 🙂The big negative for it in my view is the huge amount of house building going on, sadly for the most part, on 'green fields'.

My company had an office in Basingstoke that I occasionally used back in the ‘90s, we used to refer to it as Basingrad, we had a theory that a good night out in Basingstoke consisted of the holy trinity of a) a takeaway pizza, b) a mogadon and c) a Blockbuster video. Basingstoke hasn’t a huge amount going for it, it’s a soulless town of dual carriageways, Roundabouts and housing estates a bit like Milton Keynes. It has a decent shopping centre though.
There are lots of nice villages dotted around the town which are lovely, Hampshire is a beautiful county with some fabulous bike riding roads which more than make up for the disappointing Basingrad.

Another good video, loved the fact you included the flight home. It also shows how different the aerial view is, to the road. You knew that Compton Abbas was 'around there' somewhere, but 20 miles out, from the air was pretty close haha.
Would love to know how you get away without a little 'slap' from Mrs Flyer for your 'innuendos' haha.

(Very much enjoying this episode, the reduced risk to the TMF team is a big part of that!) The new Goldwing certainly is the perfect machine to film a road trip from. The A303 is a good choice over the motorway route, you certainly have some interesting scenery to talk about. Thanks for posting. I may well try that route myself and have a look about over there, when next in the UK.

Just thought I’d mention this and had to look back at your last installment of Belgian excursion. What ever you did to the suspension on the new wing, I noticed the camera being a lot more stable. Your old Gold Wing was more bouncy on roads that were impeccable in Belgium, so had to be the suspension
    setting.

Blimey, trying to join the mile high club must be really tricky with all that chat going on.. and having to take notes at the same time! Crop circles are phenomena, not drinkers games. We’re too thick to understand. stone henge was the Glastonbury venue of its day maybe? Loads of cattle bones found there as left overs from catering. 😊
