I agree that any simplicity makes you creative in a new way. I have the iPad version, and was nicely surprised that my usb external mic works to record samples. I have managed to record some loops by holding (and recording) the C3 key for the full duration so you get a loop at the right pitch and time - even for a whole 8 bars. Exporting this to Ableton Live is very easy with the cloud, and that is where the fun really starts and I'm impressed overall. Thank you for the tutorial, as always, I learnt a lot about things I missed, like tweaking the effects both globally and even kit pads individually. Roll on Version 2 with some of the extras that you mentioned!
Hey Jonathan, thanks for your comment! Yes, let's hope they'll bring in some of the mentioned optimizations 😊
Thanks excellent ❤
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Great video, Jannis! I haven’t been an Ableton user but am about to get the Minilab 3 which comes with Lite. Seeing the Note app in action only makes me more excited to get started. I downloaded it and think it’s pretty easy to use and fairly frictionless. Thanks for another helpful video!
Thanks for your nice comment! Sounds like a solid plan- also the Minilab 3 looks pretty cool from what I saw so far 😊
You can swing with the nudge function!
I am learning Ableton Note in the moment, i cant figure out how to delete my imported samples. Can anyone help me with this?
I think the note lengthen function has recently been added (in the latest update 1.0.10) so that’s good news
That's amazing, thanks for sharing! I haven't used it in a while, probably this video is already really outdated, haha!
Jannis, Thank you for the video! I found a few tips I can use now =) I think Ableton Note is good for what it does… it is a bit basic though, and might discourage an absolute beginner from trying to make music. I think Ableton should make the app so that you can control at least one software synthesizer so that you can capture sounds. I think they have some basic synthesizer like 1 OSC, that you can do some basic sound design with. Overall, its a good app… I have been asking Ableton for years to make an iPad version, and they finally responded. I hope that Ableton continues to make improvements with the app, and make it more like a sub-Lite version of Ableton.
Thanks for sharing! I agree that it's a compromise, but also I haven't been using it for a long time and I'm not up to the newest standard of what they incorporated.
Love your videos! Have you figured out how to mute an individual pad? When I’m on the drum tracks, sometimes I just want to mute the bass drum and nothing else. I haven’t figured out a way to do such a simple thing! Any ideas?
Thanks for your comment! Actually I couldn't find this option either. You can open the midi grid, select all kick notes and erase them, and just get them back by using the "undo" button, but this is not practical at all, haha. I guess you have to duplicate your clip and make a version where you erase the kick.
The answer above is correct. If you want something different, duplicate the original and edit it as needed. Fills, mutes etc all get their own clips, and you select them that way. I’m an analog musician lol, so note is an awesome sketchpad, I haven’t found a faster app for creating musical ideas, but if you’re used to step editors/sequencer/daw workflow, you have to think about it a little differently.
has anyone actually made a full track with this yet?! v intrigued to hear especially as I cannot afford Ableton rn! ha.
Hi, when will Ableton come up with an update? I think it is still in the beta phase
few things I dont get. You showed (and i tried) the PadFX. Looks and sounds like they are not adjusted but recorded over time. like reverb coming in at the end of the bar, instead of the snare pad having reverb as adjusted.
Or did I miss something?
Just bought an iPhone specifically to use this app. It’s not as good as GarageBand for mobile beat making. Not even close.
I´m totally dissappointed by that app. No audio import, not many options...get koala sampler instead...
Thanks for sharing- I guess it's very personal and depending on your expectation. I understand your point. Personally I like if apps have limited functions but do well what they do, plus if they have some inviting interface.
