  • A bit of a different video today as I bring you my new favourite music-making app, Ableton Note for iOS.
Few apps get me as excited to make music outside of my Mac, as this one. Ableton have really pulled off something special here in my opinion. From the wonderful selection of sounds which can also be found in Ableton Live itself, to the ease-of-use once you know how recording works, it just feels fluid and inspiring to make anything you can likely conceive of. It's been approximately 12 years since an iOS app really got my creative juices flowing.
A bit about Note from the developers themselves:
Start new musical ideas with a curated selection of sounds and effects. Play beats and melodic parts, sample your world, and continue your tracks in Ableton Live.
Note is a place to form ideas, experiment with sounds and find direction. Get your ideas out or play until inspiration hits using a selection of Ableton Live’s drum kits, synths and melodic instruments. Or create your own sound palette by recording the sounds around you into Note’s sampler instruments using your phone’s microphone.
Download Note on your iPhone or iPad from the App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/ableton...

Ableton Live 12 was announced recently with support for screen readers and revamped keyboard-based navigation, I'm hoping you will check it out and give your feedback.

Thank you for another amazing video! I am totally blind and two weeks ago I purchased an Native Instruments, M 32 midi keyboard. I’ve had it, and I am having great fun learning how to use it! :-) Thank you again for another great video.

Hi. So long as your phone connects to the keyboard, I see no reason why it shouldn’t work. Can you try it and report back?
Once connected to your phone/iPad, go to the bottom of Ableton Note, click the Settings and then MIDI, and see if your keyboard shows up or not.

I am not hopeful if this is the state of direct touch 😢

It’s alright, they stopped using direct touch for sliders and other controls in recent versions of the app, thank goodness.
Makes all the difference in the world.
