I never beat it. I stopped playing near the end (or what i believe is near the end). But I think it wasn't just the game. Some games come along when life is hitting you hard and you can't appreciate it as much as a game you play when things are relatively calm or great irl. I think that context is essential for understanding the lack of enjoyment when you play a new game. Not that Im asking ppl to spill their guts out during game reviews or analysis but i think it's important to keep in mind for yourself when rating these games. Some games lift you out of a funk, some games come when you can't enjoy things at the moment, and others may come out when you're already ecstatic abd it only shoots you further up. The possibilities are endless but it matters. When i played Arise i believe i had something else going on or i got another game that i was excited for i just can't remember what other titles came out around the same time
Just saw this, and DEFINITELY AGREE. Some times real life situations affect your enjoyment of a game. Times when it’s calm and you’re bored, you definitely enjoy games more. I don't get that. They are doing what final fantasy 7 remake did and it's destroying modern graphic RPG games. FF7 and Arise gives you new weapons that slightly boost attack every new "chapter". The shop is very limited with weapons and the resources to get the limited more powerful gear is in every following chapter. You can't grind for a weapon/armor 3-4 levels up(you almost can in FF7 remake). In the older RPG games you can drool over a high end weapon and if you want grind for it for that amazing enemy killing ease. In Arise and FF7 remake you can grind and level up without hardly noticing a power gain against enemies even with combos. It's not until end game that you experience this in both games, that is, the classic you can grind to the point of one hit enemy dead. Also in arise it is NOT satisfying when hitting enemies...it always feels like hitting concrete...or enemies always feel like they have barriers that even if you do break(in down state). Most of the skill tree skills are useless boring artes. The switching between strategy and strikes feels easy but too complicated with accidental button clicks. The game is made for story and graphic fantasy not the RPG that has many possibilities. One thing I remember in older RPG games is the spending days if not weeks attempting to beat a boss and then when you do its crazy to unlock the next land and area to adventure unto...and the story...BUT in Arise you can simply change the difficulty to very easy and move one and switch to any difficulty. You can break the game by switching to Very Easy and to Hard when battling normal enemies for extra exp. Anyway all remakes of older RPG and newer ones will 100% have this new element. No longer will you have the ability to grind to lvl 999 or have 9999999 DPS and insane gear gaps in the store. Game Corporations know the new thing is to sell their games to all that even a 7 year old can beat it. If it has too many complicated things like older RPG's and the good dying MMORPG's no one would be able to understand it. You have to sacrifice vastness with the illusion of vastness. Put stores in the game that appear to sell items like that of in an RPG(don't know what the modern stores do...sell 3 or 4 things through most the game..) In conclusion I endured the feel of the game for the story. It had a good story and graphics. They put it on PS Plus for free cuz they know FF7 Rebirth coming out but in my opinion they will both play the same except FF7 will have better combat FEEL and Nostolgia and Graphics. Note: They should of made the beginning of Arise better. Thats where the battle felt your sword was just hitting a steel wall..no satisfaction in SFX upon impact....no oomph until near end game. Also they should of excluded that seen where Shionne was chained up in thick iron and was broke free with a old iron shovel...the scene concentrated on the old shovel hitting very thick iron and just crumbled the chain into pieces....it was as bad as the missing voice dialogue in every side quest and main story....was it budget? Glad to see they came down on the price(ps4-5 free). Dang this a long comment. Most people won't understand me. Alot of new players to the RPG realm.

I think the reason why 2nd act has been difficult to finish is because the expectations how the story will flow changed immensely! 1st act is a simple beat the 5 bosses to get all the cores to stop the game. It gave the idea how this story will be paced and I guess the patience to know how much farther we have. So it felt a lot slower to us and the end goal kept shifting the closer we got to the truth.
Honestly after I finished the first act I was definitely like, “damn, that was a good game I guess I’ll hit up NG+” and then I was hit with season 2 and was pleasantly surprised.

Still a good game but the amount of lore they dump at you at the end is a bit much.

Nah it was a pleasure from the first minute to the last. I even got all the best gear after, and the best weapon for everyone (the one’s you have to feed kills to make it stronger and stronger)
Glad to know that I'm not the only one who felt the two were similar. I'm currently alternating between those games and hope to have both finished before Granblue Fantasy Re Link and FF7 Rebirth drops
I’m currently in the snow area. Havent touched the game in about a year almost. It was fun sure but it doesn’t hold my attention for long enough. Maybe after I finish Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth I will give it a go if I dont play something else instead.
I fuckin hate this one slug boss so I just deleted and regretted spending 70 bucks on it. He literally poisons your entire party and the stupid magic girl doesn’t do jack shit. Graphics are nice tho
The numerous lengthy dialogues between scenes killed it for me. I skipped a majority of it. By the time I finished playing all the side quest and stuff, I ended up getting platinum unknowingly. *[ Spoiler Comment ]* I liked the Tower/Dungeon that pops up at the end of the game and you get to see Edna (from Tales of Zisteria) and Eizen (from Tales of Berseria) meet up.
It happened to me too. I guess it's because finishing the first act kinda solves every hook the story introduced so far, so there's no real incentive to play afterwards.
Holy crap the samw thing happened to us when we did our run. We unlocked the new opening cinematic before you press start and just switched over to mario kart. No idea why 😂
The game is great gameplay wise. Overall story is intriguing. What falls flat is the very very dramatic manner that every character speaks in. Its like a soap opera on steroids with very basic explanations. Instead of letting the game and story explain itself every character basically shoves down your throat whats happening and how youre suppose to feel essentially. And multiple times. No connecting dots yourself because a character will come along to conveniently explain he while plot thats going on and then a repeat it in cased you missed it
Tbh I played tales of zestiria and never found a tales game near that experience I had there. In this game u really felt like it's a journey. So I tried arise too but it didn't catch me tbh. I played it for 30 mins and went to an other game bc it didn't catch me. Then I gave it a try again and I played it for hours straight but the characters aren't that strong as it was in zestiria and some of them really destroyed the story for me so I stopped.
Played it on hard, it was fun, pushed me to the limit and made me use nearly every item each and every boss fight, but some parts of the game had insane difficulty spikes, like volran's castle had me using a bunch of gels just to defeat the basic soldiers, thankfully they themselves drop gels, but it was a tough gauntlet that one Other than that I know not everyone will share the opinion but I love the tales series when it explores the duality between 2 worlds and we haven't gotten that since symphonia, the duality between dahna and rena was very nostalgic and a bit disappointing, the twist that rena was eaten by its spirits was cool, but I was really hoping we got to explore Rena a bit more, the satellite served as its substitute, but even then it felt underwhelming, I hope the tales studio revisits this plot line again in the near future and that we don't need to wait another 20 years to get a modern take on it, but I really wanted the finale to stick the landing, but unfortunately the final villain was really under developed, volran tries to save it by trying to stop alphen after they defeat the spirit and that was really cool, it felt like a interactive cutscene where you can just wale on the villain and I think the series didn't get a moment like that ever since xillia 2, but yeah, the real final boss was really underwhelming and that kinda sucked, feels like it was always meant to be volran, but they took him out of the story after you depart to the satellite and remember that oh, we really don't have a final villain so let's just make it the spirit of rena and make volran make a final appearance, it just felt that it wasn't really thought out, still love the game though, just a shame that the ending didn't really stick
it took me 4 months to play it again 2 months because I didn't feel like it and 2 months because real life reasons but today I finally finished the game with a 4 day streak playing it with chill and 2nd part is totally worth it 😁
I would look internally at yourself and why you cant enjoy some stuff anymore... Maybe find a therapist to help, finding the right one can take a while but its worth it... Maybe ADD idk
I always like Tales games. This one was alright. Most characters didnt click with me. You dont have a funny character like break tension that everyone is serious. What i dont like is that they removed Victory Quotes like they usually have with recent Tales games. Skits are like a little too long you have to wait there should be 1-2 mins
Law is kinda funny but most of the humor is in the skits. So really depends whether or not you decide to watch them And unfortunately, half of the characterization and development is in the skits and campfire skits too. So it kinda sucks for those that skip em
I got burn out trying to finish this game I only cared about alphin and shione it was free on gamepass so I tried to rush through it to get to my other backlog games totaly ruined the experience I spent my entire day off work trying to finish the final act and my only reaction was thank God it's over
I'm currently about to finish the main story. My God this game has way to much exposition. I've been playing for the past 4hrs and 3 of those hour's I was watching cutscenes
Honestly I felt the same and I feel Act 2 just dragged on for too long it just didn't know when to end so it kinda got boring I still love the game but I didn't like the pacing in act 2 maybe its because I only play One game at a time and got tired of it but personally I feel it was just too slow for me in the second half even if the story is very good
I dunno, I kinda love it from start to finish tbh. Though I CAN get why people have their issues with the 2nd act but all in all I liked it. but it is my favorite series so maybe some bias lol
It’s overly reliant on the sci-fi mumbo jumbo theme on the final act was fucking crazy (in a bad way) I was so bored to tears, it’s the first time I skip cutscenes in a tales game.
Beat the game but. Had a great time but it was a let-down compared to Symphonia and Vesperia. Those games I finished multiple times this one only once. Just like Final Fantasy was a good game but not as good as the older games
In my opinion, the combat system is definitely addictive and well made, the same goes for the visuals and soundtrack. But outside of that, the story, the character writing, and the setting are probably one of the weakest so far in the series.
@@maydaysangamingofficial the first half was great, but afterwards it felt lackluster. Shionne goes through the same character arc of trusting others over and over again. Rinwell’s hatred towards the Renans is forced in almost every piece of dialogue and when she changes for the better it feels inorganic. Kisara doesn’t evolve outside of the “big sister” of the group archetype. And Alphen’s guilt character arc of murdering the renans during the festival and calling himself a killer feels forced, he went through a lot already in the story and it feels as a forced way to add substance to his character.
Probably due to how limited the amount of important Characters included. Dropping from 8+1 to 6 is a step down. The side characters and enemies were pretty much episodic and disconnected. No one really interacted or had too much importance to anyone's story. Most just died off. Graphic and design was pretty good though.
Me in 2024 can happly say the game is just good and play and i know 3 months too late the dlc beyond the dawn could that mean mor content and the sao collab
Hm, I started it this weekend. So far I love it, are you tweaking all mechanics? Im only past chapter 1 though so hopefully it doesn’t disappoint too much 😭
The battle mechanics are awful tbh. Its mainly all flash and no substance and on the same level as someone going to watch a movie and saying "amazing best story ever" because it has Hollywood explosions. This post would be a wall of text if I actually explained all the things that made Arise a below average / borderline terrible rpg
The duality of men lol. I'd say Vesperia. Although my favorite is Graces f/Xillia 1 and 2 I would rather you play those after, and Hearts R last because while the gameplay and story are great they really botched the translation
@@MrTacticalApproach We all got our own preferences. If you don't like the series thats fine, maybe it's not for you. Maybe look up the other games to see if they interest you then give them a try if you do, if you don't then that'll answer your question
This game kind of has the opposite problem I have with Berseria. Berseria’s combat sucks but literally everything else is amazing, in Arise, the combat is great but everything else is kind of meh. Except for Shionne and Dohalim. They were cool.
I think what sullied the experience in the second act was, as everyone already said, too many skits that just restate what just happened in the story. But there was also the fact that they crammed in way too many plot twists near the end almost back to back (Rehnans being genetically modified Dahnans, aliens, Rena not the true Rena, the real Rena being a dead planet) - There really wasn't enough time to let the revelations sink in, and even the characters make note of that in a skit I think. Which sounds to me like they tried to go meta as a coverup for bad writing. It was a rushed mess.
hmm I feel the same way as you. the ending felt a bit rushed. my brain was boiling when those revelations came out. kinda wish it was done in a better pacing.
I complete felt the same way, the first arc had me enjoying it until the ship crash, by then I realized that I didn't actually enjoy the plot after defeating all the lordes. Vholron was a disappointment after being built up as the mysterious Alphen antithesis (though his fight was one of the most enjoyable ones pre-post game), but other than that it just felt like the skits and cutscenes were adding so much pointless info or repeating the same "We have to end slavery/prejudice" Like it felt like every other skit just repeated those two VERY WELL ESTABLISHED plot points until it was just being beat in the head. I can't believe I've barely seen any new gameplay, but we're getting EVEN MORE STORY for the game thats second half dragged on way too long.
Tales of Arise is baby's first Tales, that's why. Every Tales game has literally the exact same plot. Someone is enslaved, they're providing a natural resource being diminished in a dying world, you must restore balance by visiting "the four corners" before challenging a demigod who is revealed to have formed an alliance with a bigger threat. The comic gimmick replacing 2D skits fell flat, the dynamic cutscenes were almost non-existent, animations lacked artistic charm in favor of blowing upbthe screen with blinding particles, overworld puzzles were replaced by resource drain, economy and upgrades felt unnecessarily stilted... any veteran player would recognize how much this felt like a downgrade from arguably the best Tales ever made.
??? Im late but u was bugging. Anybody into the story wanted to complete it and i bet played for hours after beating it, to get the space uniforms and the thorns off of Shion.
To each his own, I loved it to death and think all in all it's the best Tales. I even platinumed it and I didn't even do that for Zestiria and Berseria.
I disagree, the best Tales game to me is still Graces f and Xillia 2. I really did not enjoy the gameplay of Arise all that much tbh, the gameplay have been going in a weird direction since Zestiria imho
Well for starter I think you have to have a decent attention span to listen to the story and engage In the quests to make it further . But Tales of arise is one of my favorite games so I have no clue what went wrong with you not wanting to play it.
I think it’s because the 1st act felt like it’s own story all in of itself. The last act is there just for worldbuilding purposes. Arise could’ve easily been a multi-part game though. I would’ve held back things to Menancia, and expand more on each region. I’d have loved to see actual glimpses of what the lords are like when not being attacked; that Balseph cup scene was dope and the background on that mission in the last act regarding them made them feel more alive.
Why? Idk must be a you thing. Plenty of people loved it from beginning to end. I can certainly see complaints with the info dump towards the end of the game but sounds like you didn’t even make it that far so 🤷♂️. But yeah definitely a personal problem for you not an underlying issue with the game as this post seems to insinuate :)
I myself finished it in about 2-3 weeks, no break. I loved it so much and was so sad when it was over
Same, never had a game story hooked me so much as tales of arise, it was incredible from start to finish
I had the same feeling but when I finished the campaign I set out to get platinum and I need one more trophy to do so.
I feel that the story is already fulfilling for me. But I need more 😭

Play Rinwell and you won't get bored quick. :D
Loved the mage and spell casting gameplay in Arise so much.
Howling azure storm and orochis galrforce fury,I remember those even existing
Its a great game. Awesome jrpg with likeable characters and pretty simple plot
I’m currently in the snow area. Havent touched the game in about a year almost. It was fun sure but it doesn’t hold my attention for long enough. Maybe after I finish Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth I will give it a go if I dont play something else instead.
I've had the same problem with other tales games, on this occasion I would definitely say it's worth going back and completing it...
I fuckin hate this one slug boss so I just deleted and regretted spending 70 bucks on it. He literally poisons your entire party and the stupid magic girl doesn’t do jack shit. Graphics are nice tho
Just put some poison resistance items)(you most likely have them) and upgrade your Artes then it's winnable at least on easy
The numerous lengthy dialogues between scenes killed it for me. I skipped a majority of it. By the time I finished playing all the side quest and stuff, I ended up getting platinum unknowingly.
*[ Spoiler Comment ]*
I liked the Tower/Dungeon that pops up at the end of the game and you get to see Edna (from Tales of Zisteria) and Eizen (from Tales of Berseria) meet up.
100% agree i was the same and am now considering going back but idk
I stoped playing before the end boss because an Intresting story just went to ah yes deafeat evil energy and everything wil be good in the world.
I agree I think the 2nd act could've been a sequel or even a DLC. But even with it's issues, is one of the best JRPG out there, definitely worth it.
this or scarlet nexus which i have but i might get this before GranBlue Fantasy relink releases in jan if you pre order 🎉
If its me, Scarlet Nexus is a must.
Best action JRPG, IMO interms of action. Pure badassery.
This is one of my favorite games
Wow ❤❤❤
It happened to me too. I guess it's because finishing the first act kinda solves every hook the story introduced so far, so there's no real incentive to play afterwards.
Ah that’s right. It’s basically resolved lol
Bring back tales of phantasia battle gameplay.
Played it on hard, it was fun, pushed me to the limit and made me use nearly every item each and every boss fight, but some parts of the game had insane difficulty spikes, like volran's castle had me using a bunch of gels just to defeat the basic soldiers, thankfully they themselves drop gels, but it was a tough gauntlet that one
Other than that I know not everyone will share the opinion but I love the tales series when it explores the duality between 2 worlds and we haven't gotten that since symphonia, the duality between dahna and rena was very nostalgic and a bit disappointing, the twist that rena was eaten by its spirits was cool, but I was really hoping we got to explore Rena a bit more, the satellite served as its substitute, but even then it felt underwhelming, I hope the tales studio revisits this plot line again in the near future and that we don't need to wait another 20 years to get a modern take on it, but I really wanted the finale to stick the landing, but unfortunately the final villain was really under developed, volran tries to save it by trying to stop alphen after they defeat the spirit and that was really cool, it felt like a interactive cutscene where you can just wale on the villain and I think the series didn't get a moment like that ever since xillia 2, but yeah, the real final boss was really underwhelming and that kinda sucked, feels like it was always meant to be volran, but they took him out of the story after you depart to the satellite and remember that oh, we really don't have a final villain so let's just make it the spirit of rena and make volran make a final appearance, it just felt that it wasn't really thought out, still love the game though, just a shame that the ending didn't really stick
it took me 4 months to play it again
2 months because I didn't feel like it and 2 months because real life reasons
but today I finally finished the game with a 4 day streak playing it with chill
and 2nd part is totally worth it 😁
this game need smore dynamic.. more realm to explore like previous tales ... and it needs more summoning spirit
My only issue is second half all the enemies are just massive damage sponges mind you I still love the game just stuck on the final boss
Better than all other tales games. After playing this then going to vesperia is like😔
I would look internally at yourself and why you cant enjoy some stuff anymore... Maybe find a therapist to help, finding the right one can take a while but its worth it... Maybe ADD idk
Because is just story not much of side adventuring
Same here
I haven't finished a tails game since Symphonia this is first one since then that I've wanted to play lol tale sof arise 2 please
I got addicted to the game, it was fantastic, rinwell pissed me. Off tho
So really depends whether or not you decide to watch them
And unfortunately, half of the characterization and development is in the skits and campfire skits too. So it kinda sucks for those that skip em
I got burn out trying to finish this game I only cared about alphin and shione it was free on gamepass so I tried to rush through it to get to my other backlog games totaly ruined the experience I spent my entire day off work trying to finish the final act and my only reaction was thank God it's over
That game pissed off me because of I’ve trouble with galf.
I feel in the same way
It’s overly reliant on the sci-fi mumbo jumbo theme on the final act was fucking crazy (in a bad way) I was so bored to tears, it’s the first time I skip cutscenes in a tales game.
Really? I thought the writing was good! I was super engaged
And Alphen’s guilt character arc of murdering the renans during the festival and calling himself a killer feels forced, he went through a lot already in the story and it feels as a forced way to add substance to his character.
what's the name of the BGM please ?
Probably due to how limited the amount of important Characters included. Dropping from 8+1 to 6 is a step down.
The side characters and enemies were pretty much episodic and disconnected.
No one really interacted or had too much importance to anyone's story. Most just died off.
Graphic and design was pretty good though.
Me in 2024 can happly say the game is just good and play and i know 3 months too late the dlc beyond the dawn could that mean mor content and the sao collab
Honestly after Graces the tales havent really been worth playing for me
I swear that’s me when I got the second intro I was like its more of this shit nah im good😂
Hm, I started it this weekend.
Because life, you probably had shyt to do and get done.
I never plaid it, because its no coop anymore
What is the best tales Game you can recommend?
Vesperia
Berseria
The duality of men lol. I'd say Vesperia. Although my favorite is Graces f/Xillia 1 and 2 I would rather you play those after, and Hearts R last because while the gameplay and story are great they really botched the translation
@@Rex13013 I got bored with Vesperia, either I'm old or Tales Games are not really for me.
Like, it was fun but it's also stupidly easy. It says a lot when I was able to 100% a TALES game first playthrough.
Lack of couch coop for me
Download the co-op mod
Me 2 the second act is kinda rpg standard
Only wish a sequal was in order game was xenoblade 1 level of righteous
Hey look guys ff16 with playable characters 😝 😜.
Sooo why? Srly...
Why.. WHY?!
Rpg burnout
??? Im late but u was bugging. Anybody into the story wanted to complete it and i bet played for hours after beating it, to get the space uniforms and the thorns off of Shion.
Your channel sounds cool BUT-
To each his own, I loved it to death and think all in all it's the best Tales.
The battle mechanics get boring after using it for hours sadly enough 😢
Well for starter I think you have to have a decent attention span to listen to the story and engage In the quests to make it further . But Tales of arise is one of my favorite games so I have no clue what went wrong with you not wanting to play it.
Dude same.
Arise was good but berseria was 1000 times better. I didn’t find myself as engaged with the story or characters in arise.
Sounds like you problem
I think it’s because the 1st act felt like it’s own story all in of itself. The last act is there just for worldbuilding purposes.
Arise could’ve easily been a multi-part game though. I would’ve held back things to Menancia, and expand more on each region. I’d have loved to see actual glimpses of what the lords are like when not being attacked; that Balseph cup scene was dope and the background on that mission in the last act regarding them made them feel more alive.
It's really good but I feel it gets needlessly dragged on toward the end.
…..what my guy lol how do you not want to finish it
The story wasn't it for me bur gameplay was good
