I live in a small Saskatchewan town, there are no pokestops or gyms in my town or a 160 km radius, which is about a 70 mile radius. yeah you could say unfair.
+tehjamez I'm like the OP, very small town with a church nearby but it's not a stop. Church has been there since the 70s. I've walked to it as well, nothing.... but rats and pidgeys. No point in trying to keep catching them with no limited balls after a time.
All the pokestops and gyms are imported from Niantic's previous game Ingress. So if you had a lot of Ingress in your area you probably have a lot of gyms and stops, but if you didn't have any... Then you probably don't have any stops or gyms. Unfortunately. Good news is that Niantic opened up PokeStop submissions on their website if you want to add anything from your town.
Unfortunately your main option is to use something like Nox to collect from stops. i wouldn't use it to actually catch things, it ruins the experience for sure.
I'm glad you guys can truly recognize the potential of this game, especially with Ryan talking about emergent gameplay in the last video. Mike comparing the experience to old school arcades is spot on. Great discussion and footage doods
Woah man, you're having a great time with the videogame, I love that you point out a lot of stuff that people don't really get like "The app taking you to cool sights of the city" or "The social acceptation from stores and talking to other players" as much as "going out and having nice anecdotes with your friends".
"You're seeing a wide variety of Pokemon" *looks at Somecallmejohnny's video where him and his friend and family found like 30 Dodou's in just one day*
Hey WillRock here! If you guys are wondering, I made all the background music on this video - I just wanted to say thank you, really appreciate it, I was wondering however if its possible to get a credit in the video description? :)
Have any of you ever had an issue where your pokeball swings wild to the left or right? Like at an angle that you couldn't have possibly thrown it? Have you ever had it happent to 2-5 pokeballs in a row?
You guys should come to Central Park in NYC, there is a gathering of players pretty much every day, and every pokestop nearby is always equipped with a lure module.
I think you missed a few things. Pokemon are spread around different areas with different rates. What is common where you live is not somewhere else(rattatas and pidges noncounting) Pokemon you see in the wild spawns and despawns at a specific spot. This pokemon is shared between everyone. Pokemon from lures only you can see. Main advantage of lures is experience and candy really. Eggs have a set of pokemon for each distance. All 2km eggs give from the same pool, all 5km eggs from a different pool. all 10km eggs from a third pool.
The game freezing or crashing after the Pokémon is in the ball is recoverable though. If you reopen the app and check your Pokémon list by most recent, it'll usually be there. If it isn't, it's because the Pokémon broke free.
The problem though is you don't get another chance to catch it once the game freezes. If a Pokemon breaks out from the ball, then that's whatever; I can just throw another one. But if the game freezes, you better hope you got it, because you're not getting another go.
In all of my experiences, if I get the frozen Pokeball glitch (which happens a LOT on my phone) it's pretty much a flip of the coin when I reboot the game. Sometimes I'll have it, sometimes I won't. Regardless the Pokemon is removed from the map and is taken off my Nearby Pokemon chart.
Adam Hopper Strange. Every time I haven't caught a Pokémon and the app freezes, it usually almost immediately shows back up where it was with the exact same CP. I guess maybe it's different from person to person?
There's a time limit on how long they hang around. So if you try to catch it as soon as it pops up, then you might have time to go through the crash, get back in and see it pop back up again. If you try to catch it after it's been there for like 30 seconds to a minute already... then it will most likely be gone once you reload the game.
keep this Pokémon go episodes up guys! I spent so much time out and it's refreshing for me and I hope for others too. Game still need evolve so that u can see others players on map for trading or battles. I'm from Croatia so even if we have a lot Pokémon stops, we have only common Pokemon's and best way is to get lucky with eggs. My best Pokémon is Snorlax proud holder of gym ^^.
I'm really digging the social aspect of it. Me and some buddies of mine grew up with the NES, the SNES, and later on the PlayStation, and we were used to sit together in the same room and play games together. For a long time these later years, online multiplayer has taken away a lot of that - as the guys at Cinemassacre have often pointed out - and I guess I'm old school enough to miss the concept of just hanging out together and playing games. I've loved some online multiplayer games too, don't get me wrong. But so many games in the last decade or two don't incorporate any local 2-player or multiplayer mode at all, which sucks. Pokémon GO seems to me like a mix of concepts: you're encouraged to go somewhere other than sitting at home to play (like the arcade scene); it's fun to meet up with friends and hang out while playing; AND, there is still the online multiplayer aspect of it (like when going into battle), but still while actually hanging out. The best of all worlds, yet way more social. Kudos to the makers!
I played everything up to Ruby and Sapphire. I can never afford a DS so I was overjoyed to be able to start playing pokemon go and its helped me reconnect with friends and almost every night is an adventure.
Yeah, I live in a small town and I feel like I'm at a disadvantage. Going into the nearby city (which, still, is not really a big city) has a bit more stuff but still not nearly as much as big cities.
I've never played but I enjoy watching you guys when I'm not fighting the great meme war for the future of our Republic... 6:50 doesn't the egg issue solve the rural player's problem? If one cannot go to a particular destination, one can still get an egg & then walk a comparable distance in their own neighborhood? Thanks
Wow your suburbs sound like the boondocks. I live in the Detroit suburbs and it is just like what you found in philly. A small park in Wyandotte on the Detroit river boardwalk has 9 pokestops and 2 gyms. Why do you consider it required to "buy" incubators when you can earn coins in-game?
I was in Philly on Saturday for a wedding. The city is lousy with Doduo! Trash birds everywhere. I noticed it was raining part of this video, I wonder if you guys were there the same day?
As a resident of NYC, I have to say you guys are absolutely right. City people are spoiled with pokestops. Even in my unexciting section of Queens, there are so many just within a two-block radius. I feel so bad for the people in smaller towns who don't have monuments and landmarks on every corner.
I live in hbg and have buddies who said the pokemon go catches in the ballpark were no better than outside... just lots in there at that time due to the place being closed off from everyone.
i wanna see these guys walk more with pokemon go sure, i can go to channels i dont know about, but rather stick with people i DO know and i know for sure that these 2 guys are great and funny
When the ball is stuck if you wait about 20 seconds before closing the game you may actually still catch it. You might not still but sometimes the caught signal still gets to the server.
It is a recoverable situation technically if you wait when the game freezes wait for the second loading icon then you can exit and then restart and usually you get the Pokemon
I was playing Pokemon Go on my bike today. There is this stretch of street that has a pokestop for EVERY mural (like 20-30 or more poke stops in a mile stretch). It was scary cuz I almost died. But I got a lot of stuff.
About 6 Pokestops reside in a cemetery near my house. I go walking there today and one of the groundskeepers kicks me out cause I have the app. Word of advice keep it in your pocket and wait till no ones around, or get a hollowed out book as cover.
Here's my problem....I went to a place where there were provably 20 pokestops every 50 feet in any direction but now everywhere else I play is boring because there's nowhere near as much to catch.
Its so damn funny to see you guys walking around Philadelphia and dont give a fuck about the monuments or the setting. Just looking for some pokemons. lol
If the game does lock on you when you think you caught a Pokemon, give it about 20 seconds before you restart. Check your Journal when you restart and you may have caught it. If you close the app too soon, it doesn't finish the save to the server and you don't get the Pokemon.
I have to go on a 3 mile jog just to get 3 pokestops and 1 gym around this park. Rural UK isn't too bad with random 'points of interest'. Town suburbs are easily the worst.
also gen 2 Pokemon r rumored to be released in December according to a blog or something on RUclips. also rumored each gen may be released every 6 months for a fresh start type of of thing meaning gen 3 should be around summerish next year. not a bad thing and still gives you time to enjoy other updates while waiting for newer gens. I seen this information on a RUclips vid I seen and it was posted on a blog somewhere
LukeInside Well the Jeradose guy said he was and can't mike even do some research before he makes a video of pokemon? it's not like it was spelled any different its ratata,he didn't even bother to read it correctly
Oh dip! South Philly and Temple've got all the good stops and lures, y'all. I pass, like, 8-10 stops walking home from the Broad Street Line alone. It's a great place for Pokemon Go!
wow before instance finder was a true chore to play. i play since day 1 wow launched and i can tell you there's nothing fun in looking for a party for a specific instance/raid for hours before you can actualy do it (was hell during certain hour period during the day) so instance finder saved wow in my opinion
Ive been a pokemon fan for 18 years.Downloaded this and was immediately shaking my head. To me the only thing this game has to do with pokemon is the art style...It really has nothing pokemon going on at all. Its now just a massive hype train. Swipe your finger at a pokemon on a screen to throw a ball at it..yay pokemon.
LeftRedLeg You do not battle pokemon at all. You tap the screen. There are no real battle mechanics. This is nothing like what the game would be like in real life. If they atleast had battle mechanics it would have actual gameplay value. As it stands now I cant be bothered with it. It certainly does have people talking and exploring their surroundings which is great. But that does not make it a good pokemon game.
"You do not battle pokemon at all. You tap the screen." What do you do in the RPG? Click [Attack] then click [Tackle], and watch the animations happen in front of you. Wow. Such action. At least here we have a somewhat real-time battle system. Obviously it's different, but different doesn't mean bad by any means. Do you remember the game Pokemon Snap? Yeah, that game made Pokemon fans fall head over heals for it. Why? Because it was a fantastic game! *Oh but wait,* what are the mechanics of THAT game? 1. Take pictures 2. Throw stuff 3. That's it By your logic, no one should have liked Snap, but they did because they understood what it was. Pokemon Go isn't Red and Blue, nor is it Pokemon Pinball, nor Mystery Dungeons, nor Conquest, nor any of the other spin offs the franchise has been a part of. If you don't like the game, then that's fine; all the power to you. But if your reasoning is 'it's different', then you need to get your head out of the past. Pokemon Sun and Moon will be out in a month or so, so rather than complain that this game is so different, prepare yourself for that sweet familiarity. Or better yet, just download Pokemon Red and Blue on the 3DS Virtual Console if that's more your flavor.
wassup7777777777 lol philly accents? southern jersey accent is pretty neutral.the farther north you go closer to nyc is when everyone starts to sound like they are from the sopranos
+kylem1112 haha can't deny the north jersey accent, but how can you not hear it in the south? Ask most of them to say the word 'movie' and they'll say 'mewvy'
I'm glad they spoke about the unbalance in areas. Its the thing that frustrates me most. If the ingress app and user-base didn't develop the area, you're SOL. I agree with what Ryan said about relating to older pokemon games and being casual and easy again. No breeding for shinys, stats, all this other crap.
people talk about how pokemon go gets you up and walking around and getting exercise. you also, get to interact and socialize and possibly make new friends. it's also cool that you get to see some of the sights in your area. if you live in a city you might see some stuff you never saw before like the rocky statue. although, for people in the rural and suburb areas i think they're kinda getting screwed especially if they don't have a way or the time to go to the big cities.
RUclips Sucks that's how those with the minds of children make themselves feel cool. we all went through it...then we went through puberty and got over it. Fissile Sailor , however, is a bit behind (mentally and, i would guess, physically as well). just ignore....there is no reasoning with those types of morons. ;-)
Not sure how it is there but if the load screen happens when you catch something, you either have it or it re-spawns and you can do it again. I thought that everyone had that fix. Minnesota Mystic! :D
I live in DTLA. The strongest gyms I've seen are around USC and the strongest one I've seen is a gym stacked with 3 level 2000+ Dragonites. Of course, I wiped it out with my 1600 power Lapras but still it the power creep of going between rural areas to cities to universities in no joke.
I'm just sad that this will inevitably drastically drop in popularity within a few months. and all I can think is that more devs will take this idea and saturate the app store to the point where no two people will be playing the same "Go" game. kind of like how everyone used to play Farmville, and now every one plays some variation of it, completely different from all their friends.
Luckily, they "can't" steal Pokémon, which are kind of the main attractive for people. We know Pokémon and we love the critters, that's a lot of the magic of the game 😀
***** I realize how popular candy crush is, and I remember how much more popular it used to be. Some people still do play it, but the vast majority of who used to play it have stopped.
***** If you think that everyone will continue to be eager to walk or drive around to play this game, then you are being naive. If trading and actual battles were included, more people would certainly play longer..I, a pokemon fan..I played for 2 hours and got sick of tapping the screen.
It's weird, I've had the game freeze up on me a lot right after catching something, and then when I log back in, I see the Pokemon has been caught. I likened it to a Mega Man/Yellow Devil glitch. :)
I have a feeling Pokemon Go is a beta, test run, stress test for something to expect from the NX. The NX is said to be an hybrid system, traditional console & handheld. Just imagine the potential of this with other Nintendo IP's, the NX would be very different from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Pikmin and Mario Party using the same type of AR, Google Maps tech would be interesting. Imagine Smash Bros using this, not sure how it would work but that would be awesome.
Hey guys, I heard about a tip for when the game lags out when catching Pokémon. Try closing the app and turning on airplane mode. Then open the app and wait for it to say there's no internet connection. Turn airplane mode off, and you should then see in your recent that the Pokémon was caught and is in your bag.
The "they" you are referring to when you mean go to cool places, is Ingress players, but yes Niantic only accepted portals that had some sort of cultural value, but also playgrounds and libraries for example. I have created 10-20 locations myself (some rejected).
They left the basement. Holy shit, guys. Don't forget the sunblock.
Anything for Pokemon
I live in a basement, that should fuck off
+Thunder Bird I agree with you love this game
I like those episodes with mike and jontron
But you noticed the dude on this video is Ryan, right, not Jon Tron ?
I live in a small Saskatchewan town, there are no pokestops or gyms in my town or a 160 km radius, which is about a 70 mile radius. yeah you could say unfair.
Not even at Corner Gas?
+tehjamez hahaha

160 km ~ 100 miles.

Nothing like seeing a grown man jumping around shouting I caught Pikachu!
I would like to see a Part 3.
me too
I approve this message - RUclips Sucks
I've got a great idea, how about we don't.
I would like to see a part 10.
I would like to see a part 100.
I'm getting really pissed-off at how screwed we rural players are.
Yeah. I live in a town in Sweden with 30k citizens and there are like... 40 stops over the whole city, ha.
in more ways than one
yeah we did get fucked
That's the damn truth.
Unfortunately your main option is to use something like Nox to collect from stops. i wouldn't use it to actually catch things, it ruins the experience for sure.
4:15 "Lopras" "Jaradose" xD, you guys are great.
I'm glad you guys can truly recognize the potential of this game, especially with Ryan talking about emergent gameplay in the last video. Mike comparing the experience to old school arcades is spot on. Great discussion and footage doods
this is awesome!
But you are not.
Hey guys! I just wanna ask what do you think about the mini NES coming out in November. Thank you, if you'll answer me.
Woah man, you're having a great time with the videogame, I love that you point out a lot of stuff that people don't really get like "The app taking you to cool sights of the city" or "The social acceptation from stores and talking to other players" as much as "going out and having nice anecdotes with your friends".
Next time go to Camden and see what happens.
Sup roastmaster! XD
"You're seeing a wide variety of Pokemon" *looks at Somecallmejohnny's video where him and his friend and family found like 30 Dodou's in just one day*
I'm from Philly, I live in Florida now, this video just made me homesick.
These are great. Do more of these videos about your experiences in different cities playing the game!
I can tell Ryan's been playing a whole bunch. Got those sunburns, same here.
you know a game went viral / is REALLY trending when mike and ryan do TWO episodes about it :D
will you release the full video of you guys on the city?
LMAO Cue the cheesy photos with pokemans! So funny, keep 'em coming! :D
Hey WillRock here! If you guys are wondering, I made all the background music on this video - I just wanted to say thank you, really appreciate it, I was wondering however if its possible to get a credit in the video description? :)
pokemons not forcing me to make friends..... because fuck this game i aint leaving the house for nothin or nobody
haha
I don't think you know what forcing means.
>pokemons
*TRIGGERED*
we definetely need a part 3, you clearly had so much fun, I cant wait to play it already

how come james doesnt do these videos with u guys
James got lazy ever since he made that shitty movie. Now he makes Mike do all the web videos
+AnimatorLinden he's an actual adult with a life, unlike these two sad fuckers
He's a father now so it makes it almost impossible to upload as much
+Shadowghost edge lord
+AnimatorLinden mike has a hot gf
Incense is good for chilling at home and collecting trash to evolve with lucky eggs for xp.
keep this Pokémon go episodes up guys! I spent so much time out and it's refreshing for me and I hope for others too.

How? Whaddya mean?
Not literally, just people can't keep their eyes off their smart phones at all any more.
Takes one to know one.

people who are fan of pokemon since they were kids are happy because a new installement come out every other years anyway
Now we need Episode 3: Introducing James to Pokémon Go
So, if Pokémon GO is taking over the world, does it make Nintendo a "SUPER EVIL MEGACORP"?
Team Nintendo!
relatively, outside of videogames, it's not really big. But Nintendo would love to be Disney. And that's like one of the demon lords.
Vainglory reference. Nice
Mike and Ryan Leave Their Basement ;) Lol jk I love you guys.
I work in Center City and love it! My office is a pokestop, I get to stock up all day.
Here's my problem....I went to a place where there were provably 20 pokestops every 50 feet in any direction but now everywhere else I play is boring because there's nowhere near as much to catch.
you got to run up the art museum steps (rocky steps) when you visit philly!
Great video, btw I've gotten incubators at a few pokestops but the rate is very low.
Its so damn funny to see you guys walking around Philadelphia and dont give a fuck about the monuments or the setting. Just looking for some pokemons. lol

I downloaded Pokemon go on my trip to New Orleans and Atlanta... Needless to say, when I got home to my small town I was quite disappointed. Lol.
3:35 RATATATS!!? mike isn't a true pokemon fan
Yes because if you mispronounce a pokemon name you aren't a true fan, moron.
And 4:17 - Jeradose? Really?
What do you mean? i love that band.
He never said that he's a fan.
LukeInside Well the Jeradose guy said he was and can't mike even do some research before he makes a video of pokemon? it's not like it was spelled any different its ratata,he didn't even bother to read it correctly
Yeah...You tell me about that ball stuck after capture. Sucks a lot, but on the other hand, I think the XP is added.
Nice job guys, you made it to the Liberty Bell! Too bad you were too focused on your phones to even appreciate it
So is it a good time to ask for a retro review of the originals in Gameboy?
Oh dip! South Philly and Temple've got all the good stops and lures, y'all. I pass, like, 8-10 stops walking home from the Broad Street Line alone. It's a great place for Pokemon Go!

Or better yet, just download Pokemon Red and Blue on the 3DS Virtual Console if that's more your flavor.
jeez calm down someone has a different opinion than you
Nice one guys, very good content.
Would love to see a part 3!
the eggs arent RNG btw mike. theres a whole diagram for what a 2 KM, 5, and 10 KMs give you
I'm guessing James would not be taking part in these Pokemon vids
I thought you guys lived in Philadelphia (or at least around college or something) ?
I live in philly and there was this big gathering at the Rittenhouse square park downtown the other day. I think there was a rare pokemon nearby.
Do you guys live in the suburbs of Philly?
yeah they live in south jersey
Might be central Jersey since they don't have those god awful accents
wassup7777777777
lol philly accents? southern jersey accent is pretty neutral.the farther north you go closer to nyc is when everyone starts to sound like they are from the sopranos
They are from Haddonfield, which is 100% in southern Jersey. It's quite close to Philly.
No breeding for shinys, stats, all this other crap.
people talk about how pokemon go gets you up and walking around and getting exercise. you also, get to interact and socialize and possibly make new friends. it's also cool that you get to see some of the sights in your area. if you live in a city you might see some stuff you never saw before like the rocky statue. although, for people in the rural and suburb areas i think they're kinda getting screwed especially if they don't have a way or the time to go to the big cities.
....you could have had Pikachu as your starter. that's what I did.
also, since then...i haven't seen another Pikachu.
Same
+Fissile Sailor yes you can...I did it. What's with the hostility? Are you 8?
I caught a wild Raichu and hatched a Pikachu
RUclips Sucks that's how those with the minds of children make themselves feel cool. we all went through it...then we went through puberty and got over it. Fissile Sailor , however, is a bit behind (mentally and, i would guess, physically as well). just ignore....there is no reasoning with those types of morons. ;-)
What a coincidence! I went to Philadelphia earlier!
Mike, which team are you on? Mystic, Instinct or Valor?
You can find incubators from pokestops. But you can use them 3 times for eggs.
College kids having an advantage over those who live in the suburbs...how ironic.
About those incubators, just attach your phone to your roof fan and make it spin. ;) You're welcome!
most of the time when the game freezes after a catch, you'll still catch that pokemon.
Until they add Gen 2 Pokemon
Luckily, they "can't" steal Pokémon, which are kind of the main attractive for people. We know Pokémon and we love the critters, that's a lot of the magic of the game 😀
THAT I WOULD PLAY! I want to be Team Rocket!
When I saw the title had Philadelphia in it I was so excited.
It's weird, I've had the game freeze up on me a lot right after catching something, and then when I log back in, I see the Pokemon has been caught. I likened it to a Mega Man/Yellow Devil glitch. :)
it's about time u make another pokemon go video
Vainglory video coming next??..... *looks at Super Evil Mega Corp Shirt* :D!!!
I just got to level 12 and unlocked great balls yesterday. I'd probably be a lot further if it weren't for the constant server issues.
Hey, AVGN. Great video. My phone no support for Pokemon go. 😤 can you do review of NES mini console ?
Would love to see a more in-depth video on Ingress some day!
Emerald DatDoesStuff With Amiibo support ?
Mike seems to have stored a large Ekans in his pocket rather than capturing it in a Pokeball
Yay! Pokemon! You guys are fucking awesome! Really loving Pokemon Go, I got my mom hooked on Pokemon now haha. :p
I live in Philly, sucks I didn't get to see you...
The "they" you are referring to when you mean go to cool places, is Ingress players, but yes Niantic only accepted portals that had some sort of cultural value, but also playgrounds and libraries for example. I have created 10-20 locations myself (some rejected).
