Ash knows he's the main character and wants to see how crazy he can make the deus ex machina. Pikachu vs Onyx? Sprinklers obviously allow electricity to work on ground-types. Pikachu vs Rhydon? You just need to aim the electricity at the horn, you moron. Flamethrower not very effective? Flamethrower HARDER!

That charizard and magmar battle has been my favorite since I was a little kid and I still occasionally will randomly watch it when I’m feeling nostalgic.
I also loved how the gym was destroyed in such an intense battle

I absolutely agree. I got up at 6am on saturday to watch that new episode as a kid (we know how that went, if you didnt watch thew new episode a good chance you would never see it). I also liked the fossil episode , the haunter vs kadabra episode, and later on in life I found out master quest is unbelievable (season 5 and 6) pokemon league. Ash and gary end up in the same pokemon league for hte first time.

There is no such thing as level in anime though. Pikachu and Ash were confused. U can't really blame them at this point. Pretty sure most people wouldn't know how to deal with the situation themselve that they lost the most important of their abilities. Even the toughest Pokemo can be caught off guard if one of their abilities were sealed off.

He doesn’t like to lose. My Charizard was an animal I sent him to crystal version from yellow. I put a charcoal on him and a flamethrower on him at lvl 10. He can ko anything with a flamethrower. My pika is an animal!! After he beat surge raichu one on one in yellow I sent him to crystal to help beat that journey. He beat ecryuteaks gym gengar. He beat my rival silver. He beat poliwrath. He beat dragon air. He beat dragonite.
My pika was special. He survived an earthquake a couple times
@@westsidewoodledge8892 Yes, if you overlevel the crap out of little Pika. Put him in a battle with something his level and he will probably lose. I'm putting this example against altaria, which already has a pitiful attack stat of 70, and look how much damage it does with earthquake:

252+ SpA Light Ball Pikachu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Altaria: 171-202 (58.7 - 69.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
No Pokémon is special. There is a limit on how good a Pokémon is with IVs and EVs. I'm doing this calculation, with perfect IVs, and max EVs in attacking stats, aka Attack and Special Attack. And this is if Pikachu has Light Ball, a special item which doubles pikachu's Attack and Special Attack. And your Pikachu cannot hold one, because your Pikachu is from gen 1. Pikachu is trash. Use Raichu. It's usually better.

Luis Real 1) pikachu was unable to use electric type moves. 2) levels dont exist in anime. 3) just because snivy was newly received, doesnt mean it doesnt know how to fight. 4) if a little mouse was thrown by a tornado and smacked into the ground, the result is self-explanatory. 5) the fact that pikachu cant use electric moves, couldve affected him mentally.

I’ve been watching the original series and just saw the Magmar-Charizard battle. I was surprised at how awesome it actually was. No wonder Charizard is so beloved.

It's not that good through Charizard is just doing whatever it wants, it's only a couple minutes long of back and Forth where Charizard then wins, he does't even listen to ash but just does his own thing
@@ThePokemonPrinceYT That’s what makes it so unique though? It’s the only fight ever where a pokemon fought without listening. And it’s the first battle Charizard actually wanted to fight, as he saw Magmar as equal.

Plus, it was very different to usual fights, as it brought the element of Charizard being under the lava, as well as flying way above the battlefield

Alot because it set the standard for what the best battles should be and look like. There was a big anticipation for it too. It was so different to the rest. I'm sorry, but the entire battle between Ash and Paul was the best battle in the series thus far. It was full of legitimate strategy, with both sides utilizing abilities, attacks, and the battlefield in ways that've never been seen before. It truly deserved to be a three-episode battle, as Paul had established himself to be a better rival than Gary by that point.
As of XY ashs olympia is right up their in my opinion.

+The Raoul You could probably make one. That's how superior Charizard is to Ash's other Pokemon, and how important he is to Ash's battle success, that's all there is to it. As you can see these battles were extremely important milestones (except vs Jeanette obviously but it WAS the 1st time Ash learned to deal with Double Team and how not to completely choke away a 3-1 lead to a Bellsprout) and most of the time the Ace was Charizard when he was available. Ash's Charizard raids top 10 Pokemon anime battles anywhere that his inclusion (and Ash's) qualifies.

***** We're talking about Ash's Charizard here in the anime. His Infernape has never been through the same near-suicidal level of training nor for as long as Charizard, and has struggled with weaker foes that Charizard could burn to a crisp with Flamethrower or one-shot with Seismic Toss (if he still had it) and needs Blaze to do what Charizard can do without it. HOW does that make him stronger? If anything it makes Charizard look even stronger because he could trigger his own Blaze ability then remove all doubt.

A bit disappointed that Dawn vs. Zoey in the Grand Festival was only an honourable mention. That seriously was a great battle, it showed just how far Dawn had come. Personally, I think Dawn accomplished more then May did.

The best one was clearly Ash vs Paul in the Sinnoh League. Paul was also the best rival Ash had. It was a real disappointment that after Ash lost against Tobias with his Darkrai and Latios after he had such a good fight.

When it fought against Poliwrath it nearly died again.
Charizard defeated the legendary Articuno, Garys Golem and Blastoise directly after it, and it would have easily defeated Iris Dragonite without the damn green hair Hippie.
There is no better Pokémon in Ashs team than Charizard. And it is always a epic moment, when it comes back to Ash for a fight. Cause you know, when Charizard is coming, the fight will be awesome.
It also fought against Entei. Did not win, but not every Pokémon will attack a legendary without hesitate.
