  • If you charge your EV outside in the winter, how do you prevent ice and snow from getting in your charge port? Is there a solution to prevent water, snow and ice from getting in your charge port when you charge your car? The answer is yes, and you can learn all about it in this video about the MaCapuche.com charge port cover that is available for a variety of EVs (see link below). In this video I show you what the port cover is, how to install it, how it protects when covered in snow and ice, and how to remove it, all on done my Kia EV6 GT-Line Pack 2.

    I like the Ioniq5 upwards opening port better, since it covers the port to some degree. It did freeze open once and I had to blowdry it to close. I have been using a mirror cover since then and haven't had an issue.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  Год назад

      Yes, having it open upwards is a bit better, but with the snow and ice that you saw in this video, it would have not worked. The mirror cover is a good idea. FYI MaCapuche makes a port cover for the Ioniq 5 😎.

      J'ai déjà eu des abris, c'est très utile, mais le montage, démontage et entreposage me fatiguais. J'y pense encore, ou de faire construire un car port. Cependant, si je fais un car port je veux que le toit soit entièrement en pannaux solaires = $$$

    Looks like a pain in the butt to me. I would probably just build a small overhang over that area where I parked the car so that snow and ice could not get to it.

      Spending 45 seconds putting the port cover on is a lot less expensive than building an extension to the house.

      He started by simply wanting something for his Tesla Models 3, but when he showed it he started getting requests to buy them so he started his company. Before he started people were using all sorts of creative methods, trash bags, oven mitts (yes, you read that correctly), tarps, etc. Some people still use alternative things, but I really like the quality of the MaCapuche product.

      Ça me fait plaisir, et merci. Comme mentionné dans la vidéo, j'ai un protecteur de pare-brise et je vais faire une vidéo. Tu peux le voir sur mon site Web dans la section Products I Use. Il fait de justesse car je l'avais acheté pour ma Niro EV, qui est plus petite, mais ça fonctionne bien.

    Thats really cool actually. What do you do with the cover? Do you take it with you or leave in the house? Could it be for example put onto the wallbox so it wont be icy?
    I hope they can ship it to Europe as well.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  Год назад +2

      Yes, Guillaume will ship to Europe; I asked before making the video. As for what I do with it, like I show in the video at 6:24 I tap the ice off, fold it and throw it into my back seat. I usually put it in the trunk though. You could hang it on the EVSE, but I don't need to since the wind blows away from this side of the house so neither of my charging stations get snow, ice, or water!

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  7 месяцев назад

      I have done that and just like with a gas car, where the gas port cover gets covered, you just use your snow brush to clean it off. Also, in 99.9% of the times it has happened to me, I just press the open port button in the car and it opens, but I still prefer to clean it off with the snow brush first.

    Je pensais que la capuche tiendrait avec des aimants collants sur la carrosserie?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  Год назад +1

      Ça aurait pu, mais sur une surface verticale ce n’est pas une bonne idée car la pesanteur de la neige ferait glisser les aimants et ça pourrait graffigner la peinture.

  • @colinrobinson7869

    The day will come when the car manufacturers make the charge port deeper so that the door can be closed over the charge cable and a colour matched rubber grommet seals the charging port. With bi- directional EV'S this will become more of a issue.
    I live in London (UK) and and a heavy show storm and over night freezing temperatures froze up the micro switch on my charge port door so the car kept nagging me with a error message that filled the whole screen, it's a Kia e-niro thing !!

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  Год назад

      I had a 2019 Niro EV before and had a port cover for it from this same company. I made the video about it in 2020. If you get snow often enough then it is worth getting one.

    André, penses tu que le model pour le TESLA Model S, (ruclips.net/video/8tCNNN6U3HE/видео.html), pourrait faire? je trouve que 180$ pour celle de la EV6 est un peu trop.. ??

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  9 месяцев назад +1

      La version pour la EV6 est très gros pour couvrir tous ce que je montre, et la forme est très spécifique, donc non, je ne crois pas qu'une autre version puisse faire. Effectivement, à 180$ c'est cher.

      No, I have not noticed that as an issue and I see my car in the dark quite a bit since I go to the gym and leave before 5am. For the menu, they are called the welcome lights and are linked to the "On approach" and "On unlock" options you looked at. I would try disabling that option and power cycle the car.
