    I agree with you 100%. Really, he had a very rough start, my classmates in collage verbally shredded him practically every night, and still I thought he had something going. @TheRoopeKonna You guys are taking him literally here? The joke comes from the fact that being a god of Finland (or any country) is laughable. It has nothing to do with their intelligence, but rather makes Conan look like he's full of himself, which is funny. Its also why he expected no one to be there when he got off the plane, to make it even funnier.

    I meant that Conan is so stupid that when he tries to compare himself to our president, he just makes us to look stupid.
    I understood the joke, although i did not laugh at it. His whole life is not a joke, and i think that his visit to Finland wasn't a joke either. Well, with that joke he kinda blows up our reputation. Not to mention that i would be ashamed to see a simple talk host get such welcome, talking to the president and all. He's after all just a talk host, not a messenger.

    So you can laugh more: The reason I do love women is because my Mother is 1. She is smart and runs her own life(Financially stable) but I still think I am Superior and that goes for any Female.
    I do respect your view only because you are a Human Being.

    The Masturbating Bear appeared maybe 2 or 3 times per year during the last few years of Late Night, it's hardly fair to reduce Conan's entire comedic repertoire to one joke. AND they set the Masturbating Bear free in the final week of shows; he won't be appearing on the Tonight Show, for obvious reasons.
    But yeah I guess that guy who wrote for SNL and the Simpsons during those shows' respective best years is really just a giant hack.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    I'll take into consideration the fact that since you feel Conan is a comic mastermind that you'd probably think everyone in the whole world just had to as well and anyone who thought Conan was a jerk had to be out of their mind.
    Perhaps when Conan's "humor" matures in a couple of decades, he'll gain some followers who enjoy real comedy, and aren't so touchy when people knock their idol.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    nda1186--I find it truly amazing that so many Conan fans get so uptight when someone starts joking about their idol. Whether one's negative comments about Conan are serious or in jest, it appears his fans have no sense of humor whatsoever and can't simply let the negative comments be ignored. It may lend credence to the observation that his humor truly is juvenile and thus the similar response from fans.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    One thing awards signify is the quality others in your profession see in your work. Someone can appeal to a small, niche audience, as Conan does, but his peers will recognize he's got a limited reach. Such a small appeal usually means a performer needs to rework his act to appeal to a broader audience or find himself off the tube and back in the comedy clubs.
    And say, porchematt22, do you use the Urban Dictionary to build your vocabulary?

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    Scandinavia has to suffer through t hose long midnight sun nights they have, so they'll probably watch anything that's on TV, no matter how lacking in talent. Probably explains why they would watch Conan.
    I'm sure NBC would love to see Conan take an offer to do a show on TV in Sweden or Finland so they can reverse their mistake and get someone who's actually funny and a good interviewer take over The Tonight Show when Jay leaves.

    Other thing: Do you think that people in Europe don't have cable? My news from the elections are provided by CNN and MSNBC... And the news treatment is so so poor. Politics in the US its all cheap talks made by "analysts". The media give increadible much more time to analysts than to politicians...
    So the approach to politics is to think what will the poeple and specially the analysts like and admire instead of building a good strong political program. The politician is a sellsman in the US.

    whoa, where do nazis come into this? And Im an idiot? Nazis !? are you serious? Your talking like a child, I wasn't comparing Americans to nazis Germany. The Americans have done some great humanitarian work, helping small countries in civil war or give countries struggling with a epidemic of deseases, all I was saying that if your an American, you really have no say in the subject of how others in the world perceives you. Its not all to do with you, its has to do with our own media and yours.

    Hint for swede: Lapland is not a person.
    Lapland is in the Finland. I think there is a parts of Lapland inside Sweden's borders too, but originally the people there didn't even speak swedish as a mothertongue until they were forced to. Ok - really the Lapland is in Finland, Sweden and Norway ->(Finnmarken)+ Russia's Lapland. Hey - what the hell, with or without Lapland, Sweden is a nice and beautiful country! And Norway too!
    But the Santa lives in Finland. For real (but it is top secret...).

    Hmm... I'm French, I learned English in school, I'm fluent! But it IS true that most people in France don't want to learn English... England and France are old rivals, after all. But if people could just realize what an easy to learn language English really is (as opposed to French), they would be surprised. I mean, no conjugating the verbs, no gender for nouns, etc...

    I've spent time on NBC's boards for Leno and Conan and have seen that Conan's humor appeals mainly to the younger generation. I grew up with Johnny Carson, plus a little bit of Steve Allen, so I find their humor far more appealing to me. Not that Conan doesn't have good comedy. It just doesn't move me. To each his own.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    Could be popular where he is now. Move him to the earlier spot, though, and it's a different story.
    People don't stay up after the late news to watch a stale joke about a masturbating bear. they want talent and comedy, which will be far less than what it has been for years on The Tonight Show.
    Nice to see you welcome people back to make follow-up posts.

  • @carnaco2

    Conan's demographic watches at the later hour. The demographic currently watching The Tonight Show is much older, and cares little for his humor. THAT'S the audience Conan has to appeal to.
    If all his current viewers move to the earlier time slot, they still wouldn't be able to make up for the older audience that would change channels or leave the TV off at 11:30.

    Conan sinking like a rock? out of all the late night/late show hosts etc he is the funniest by far, so if any1 would sink like a rock it would be leno or letterman. Conan is actually funny without relying 90% on props, he can just go somewhere or do somthing that is funny but leno always needs a prop and letterman is really not that funny.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    Just like Conan to do the impossible. TV shows don't win Oscars, although Conan's show did receive an Emmy in '07. One little award to put on his mantle. That makes one Emmy over the 12 years or so he's been doing the show and one Emmy for Sat Night Live. Not too good for someone people think has comedic talent.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    I personally don't care for Jay, but Conan has a lot of catching up to do to equal what talent Jay does have.
    Viewers obviously help in the ratings, but Emmys are voted on by people in the industry who know good work when they see it, thus the greater recognition in awards given to Dave and Jay as opposed to Conan's meager pickings.

  • @carnaco2
    @carnaco2 15 лет назад

    A reply totally lacking in humor, which is in keeping with Conan juvenile antics.
    Check out the # of Emmys won by late show hosts. Conan's way down the list, with Dave and Jay up at the top.
    John Stewart or Craig Ferguson would have been far better choices to carry on the tradition of Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. But CONAN????? That IS funny.

    I wouldn't expect him to last long on Tonight then, thankfully. The Tonight Show isn't directed at the Sesame Street audience like Conan's show has been.

    I agree, he's excellent. He's my absolute favorite late night personality. And he's even Harvard educated I hear, but lets be honest, God he is not.

    I L-O-V-E Conan, but why oh why did he not mention that Lappland is in Sweden? I would've been very proud if he'd said that he'd visited my country, too.

    Spotnik, Conan O'brien is a comedian and jokes around a lot. He doesn't really believe he is a god in Finland, he's just saying that to be outrageous.

    Wow it was a joke made by the cnn people, just like Conan said he has had a lot of "self loathing".... calm down and take everything into context.

    Conan is cool. Americans can experience the rest of the world in a very positive way through his show. I hope he travels to the rest of Europe and beyond.

    You can tell the CNN lady never watches Conan. She was like what was with the dance?

    I find it hard to believe that a Harvard graduate would spell college as "collage".

    :D how come brussy1's comment has so much plus points and ligyro's almost as many minuses. After all they are the exact same kind of humour.

    Conan on CNN talking about the string dance..... I haven't felt like this since David Bowie appeared on Bing Crosby's Christmas special.

    Some people seem to think Conan is funny. They're the ones who'll be in the dark when his ratings start to plunge at an earlier time slot.
