I really enjoyed your video. A small comment on style: You are almost consistently using "future in the past" throughout, i.e. "he would do this...". This tends to disrupt the flow of the commentary and is unnecessary in most cases. E.g. "At Carson's advice he left NBC" would be just fine and sound more natural.
I find the stark contrast between Conan and Ellen Degeneres very interesting. Ellen's entire on-stage personality was how kind and generous she was and it turns out she was an abusive asshole when the cameras weren't rolling. Meanwhile Conan's on-stage personality was a horrible boss and an annoying creep and it turns out he's genuinely kind guy who's also a great boss.
the sad thing though is that you can totally feel and tell if it's genuine or not in my opinion but a lot of people apparently don't... like, i think I've always felt like something is off about ellen, some skits of hers where funny but I never really liked her or her show... same thing with the others: i always thought jimmy kimmel was coming on too strong sometimes and always thought jimmy fallon was overly "kind" and boring as a result... the only other host i really like is graham norton from bbc...
I've always loved how he's genuinely attempting to hold an actual conversation with his guests, allows them to talk and it's just not pathetic pandering or inauthentic rapport. The reason the skits with staff and interns worked so well was because they all understood his style of comedy and legitimately respected and appreciated the guy. He's just an overall credit to humanity!
I disagree, everything I have heard from him is "pathetic pandering and inauthentic rapport". Also If you don't think 99% of this shit is scripted you're one sad bloke... It's A TV show 🤦
@@WakaWaka2468@WakaWaka2468 lol he said that once, that he keeps hearing from now famous comedians and so many people how he was their childhood and he's wondering why didn't he see those numbers when his spirit was being battered by critics and media of the time. But it's definitely because conan was just ahead of his time so his talent was bound to only be recognised by the next gen
@SirTatManTat I love Craig Ferguson and I much preferred his LLS over what Corden did, but Conan's impact and legacy dwarfs the short time that Ferguson was in late night. Carson will always be the top dog, but unless you're from the dark ages it's hard to relate or care about him. The only one who would be considered king other than Conan would be Letterman - and hey, it's probably true
Tell that to the French Haitians who got cannibalized by you know who; if you care about people you don't have absolute horse manure plastered on your chest for marketing purposes
lol he knows. After Tonight show when he was prohibited from appearing on TV for 2 years all he did was tour the world and meet all his fans in person.
@@kkenjiito Conan is very intelligent . i think most of his detractors are of a lower form of intelligence. Conan just doesn't do fart and "poopy" jokes for them. and thank goodness for that, because look at all of the great Norm Macdonald visits we would have missed out on when he was on Conan's shows.
He is the only talk show host to actually care about Comic Con, play a clueless video gamer, travel the world, and make comedy wherever, and give his staff airtime whenever he can. He is the best.
well he grew up as a nerd who also knew he had to finish a good school. i guess he's the type of a person who's rare these days. genuine, honest, modest and well educated
I remember a Conan remote where he goes to a etiquette school or something on those lines and asks a young girl if she can demonstrate her Irish dancing or something like that and when he notices she is embarrassed and awkward he deflects it onto himself and dances really stupidly to make the kid laugh and make her feel better about the situation, he truly is a great guy
The perfect Conan tribute. He genuinely helped me so much as a very lonely, depressed kid, I am not sure how I would have survived without his show, it was my biggest lifeline for so many years. I’m 37, that was a long time ago, it’s all good now, but I am forever grateful to Conan for making me feel less alone and like there were more people like me out there in the world 🧡
I mean this, I felt the exact same way back then, and he truly help me laugh and I didn't care that i was Little more tired going to high school the next morning.
He, to me, is a total delight. Has provided so many laughs. No friend in my circle, nor family member, feels as I do. But that doesn’t deter me. They must have something wrong with them. Team Coco.
He is so witty, down-to-earth and gets along with pretty much everyone, even/especially with kids. I can't count the amount of times I've had to explain to the people I have shown his video to that it's just his persona, and even that it's very apparent in any clip he is in.
Conan’s monologues were never super strong. But when he is unscripted, doing interviews or his remotes, he just absolutely crushes it. I think he’s genuinely just such a kind and funny person. Love to see some Conan appreciation posts.
@@munchie_gov I mean they definitely weren’t bad but I remember some of his jokes falling a little flat. But when he’s just being Conan, on his podcast or in his remotes, he’s just so damn funny and quick witted. Oh, and his interviews are leagues above anyone else’s (as the video points out). Conan is just genuinely so funny, so kind, and so intelligent that he really is one in a billion. Also yeah Jon Stewart was fantastic, but he was very political which always plays well to the right audience. Which I think hurt Conan in the long run, especially with the current political climate. But yeah I love Stewart.
As a showman , Conan is definitely on the mount Rushmore of talk shows. I never felt ease and comfort while watching Ellen or kimmel. Conan was different. Not just as a host , but as a person too. He helped me through a lot of my bad mondays. Thanks Conan!
Conan is just... without any competition whatsoever. Genuine, unique and a type of humor that's unsurpassed and original. No political agenda at the expense of others, no fake laughs, no slapstick humor or silly gimmicks to appeal to the masses but just... Conan being Conan. I've seen his speech at graduation day, I've read about his generosity towards his staff and I still remember him contuing during those virus-ridden darker years. And now I've seen this vid and this has assured me that Conan is and will always be a phenomenal host and just an unique and wonderful person.
@@BenchongDy I liked your comment (because it's original and funny) but "asshole" is kind of an "overstatement" 🙂 I would go for playful jerk but perhaps we're used to a lot more over here in Europe 😛
Conan himself isn’t funny whatsoever. He got into Harvard by riding on his father’s coattails. He doesn’t have a talented bone in his body. Once you remove the Halo effect from his height, handsome face, and Harvard diploma, you will - hopefully, if you have any sense - see him as just another unfunny human being. Louis CK and Bill Burr are genuinely funny. Conan isn’t.
This feels like a love letter to Conan, even though it highlights his shortcomings. But that’s why we love him, he’s the people’s’ favourite because he treats others with respect and shows that he’s vulnerable. Love ya, Conan!
The episodes when the writers were on strike in 2007 were fantastic. He was at this best. Spinning his ring on the desk to having an audience member buying snacks at a vending machine to the German disco light shows to the zip line and having fans give him ideas on how to use it. It was genius
It's what set him apart as the clear creative leader in the late night. Conan kept it entertaining while also constantly making it stunningly obvious that writers are what make the talk shows function at all. Every episode during the period highlighted the strike itself, you were never allowed to forget that it was still ongoing and his support was unquestionable because of his own writing background.
Conan is just naturally endearing. He’s not shy to make fun of himself, not in a showy way but genuinely. He has this perfect blend of curiosity, awkwardness, intellect, wit, and most importantly - sincerity.
Thats one thing i loved about him. Even with the iconic clips where he corrected Jennifer Garner, he almost always ends up making himself the joke, so the guests feel comfortable and also opens the guests up a bit imo.
I never understood how Conan was never as popular as other (worse in my opinion) late night hosts. He was the only host which genuinely talked to the guests and not interviewed them. I'm thankful for the day I stumbled with his show. Nice video, too 🙌
Younger audience vs the old audience these shows use to get i guess. It seems that everyone loves Conan is younger or very young at heart. Thats probabaly why.
Craig ferguson did the same, you only had to look at how he did with Harrison Ford who is always anxious as hell. Tore up his written questions and talked with him about planes and flying
Conan is the GOAT! despite all the horrible things Leno and NBC did to him, he never acted like a douchebag when he had all the reasons to be. There's no wonder why he's admired and loved by so many and has so many international fans like me. He is also Idol to so many new gen comedians. Team Coco forever!!!
I like Conan & Jay. Watched them both since 2001/2002. I wish The Tonight Show had worked out for Conan in the long run, but the truth behind that debacle is still not widely known. I highly recommend the book "The War for Late Night" by Bill Carter which includes the nuance in the story. NBC screwed over both Jay and Conan and I believe Jay has been unfairly villianized. In 2004, NBC told him Conan was taking over in 2009 no matter how good his ratings were. Jay loved NBC and did not want to leave in 2009, so he accepted the offer for a primetime show. Misguided? Yes, but not malicious. Bottom line, the two could not co-exist at NBC anymore, so one had to go. Again, I hate that Conan quit. I miss him and Jay on TV. The current hosts are all no-talent political hacks.
Leno did nothing wrong. Conan's audience completely abandoned him after he moved his time slot and NBC needed someone who could actually get people to tune in. Conan fans need to blame themselves for why Conan failed. They are the ones who abandoned him.
Indeed, the most unproblematic, most genuine host ever. I'm from an Asian country with no experience to late night talk show culture in the US but discovered him here on RUclips. Everything he put out was genuinely so funny, many many times heartfelt. I like the Remote bit and the animal section. And I love that he constantly featured his staff in his show. As an audience, that made me understand that the whole show is not about a single person, but the entire team. I really like that about him.
I discovered Conan when i was 15. Me and my family moved to a new house, and i remember being in my new room with my oldest brother, laughing so hard at midnight that we became addicted to him. Conan & Andy, we love you!
This gets any Conan fan emotional. It's one of the most beautiful fan-made homages to the genius that is Conan O'Brien. Thank you for making this and taking the time; amazing content.
Literally every single one but him come across as nothing but shills, and the shows themselves are just as bad. They are all just a series of ads mixed in with genuinely terrible "comedy", like Stephen Colbert's vaxx-scene thing I'm not an anti-vaxxer or anything, but that is just pure garbage content that exists solely to pander to an audience of self-righteous narcissists. Conan has never had anything like that, he actually puts effort in, he has actual comedy on his show, and when he has guests he actually talks to them and makes it less about whatever product they're shilling.
I hear you, he along with Letterman, and also George Lopez. I have to give props to Lopez for recommending Conan to TBS, and Lopez also alerted Sammy Hagar to Eddie Van Halen's illness, and to make contact with him before he passed. Letterman is also very genuine, and recognizes true talent when he sees it, and roots for the underdog.
@@oBCHANoagreed I’ve always got the feeling with Conan he’s actually being himself and he’s ok with ripping himself as well. Most of these other hosts seem completely phony and their comedy sucks because there’s a lack of authenticity.
I met him a few times. He is absolutely the NICEST most approachable person and doesn’t get the recognition for it. He actually engages with you and is exactly how you hope he will be. Even gave me a big hug a couple times ❤ I’m not a celebrity crazy person at allll but he’s been a a huge part of my life for 29 years .
Personally, he is the funniest person I have ever seen. No comedian, actor, or host has his replayability. I can watch the same Conan videos every week and I would laugh every time. He got me through depression, suicide attempts, and personal tragedies, simply by being his authentic self. There is a reason why a number of his staff of 30 years still work for him, amidst all the network changes. He banters, but he respects.
I lost my big brother to covid in 2021 and i gotta say, i feel the same, i'm 31 years old but i felt like losing my father when i was 18 was not even close to the pain i felt when i lost my brother, my best friend. I know it sounds silly but listening/binge-watching conan made such a difference in my life, just by simply laughing, its a shame that i live in a small city in Brazil and will probably never get to meet him, but he sure made a huge impact for good in my life, I love Conan.
The only other host that has his replayability is Craig Ferguson. His interview skills were at, if not better than, any other late night host, including Conan, Letterman, and Carson. He made every single guest feel comfortable and let them even show some of their dirtier sides. Every time before an interview, he rips up the suggested guest question cards and just ad libs the whole interview, which never really happens nowadays. He was the only late night host that could stand toe-to-toe against Robin Williams as the funniest guy on stage and not only have a genuine conversation without him going off the rails, but also make him laugh. With the current landscape of late night being so horrible with the only glimmer of hope being Seth Meyers, it's great to remember how spoiled we were to have guys like Ferguson, Letterman, and Conan on our screens every night.
@@S00nerB00mer Craig has a blazingly fast wit and a ton of charisma, he's one of the best to ever do it. I've been watching Conan since he first aired, his start in late night was not hot but he grows on you very quickly because of the aforementioned reasons.
As you say in your wonderful tribute to Conan, he is the same person on and off camera. For 14 years, I worked for "Late Night with COB" as a graphic artist. It was the best job I ever had and I will forever be thankful for the experience of a lifetime.
It's 1993. A 10 yr old kid from Florida stayed up on Friday nights to watch Conan. I was no ordinary kid of course. I was a comedy fan. I have missed episodes. But I never stopped watching. I'm in my 40s now, and I listen/watch Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend. Conan is in my opinion not only the best Late Night host, he's one of the funniest people alive.
i was 10 in 2008 when i found conan and i don’t know if anyone has effected my comedic taste or my worldview as much as conan has. 15 years strong on team coco and won’t change that for anything
As somebody from India, I have never related to a talk show host, or found them funny. But I remember checking out a clip from Conan's show on youtube and then going down a rabbit hole of watching any and every content online related to him (Including his speech in university which was so inspiring). I have so much love and respect for the guy.
True. He is just a human being full of positivity. I hope he comes to india with his new show. The travelling show. Apparently they had trouble with visas since they didn’t take permissions the last time
@@karthik7486 Lol no it is not about permissions. Actually, they wanted to come to India for Conan's new HBO show but the Indian government wanted each and every detail about what they are going to say on the show to make sure there is nothing negative about the ruling party and the country itself. Conan said that he doesn't want to do a show where they don't have the freedom and constantly being censored and monitored. Pretty much the same reason why he is not visiting China.
So true...i believe we Indians do face many difficulties to grasp Foreign jokes..But Conan's case is so different.. I can easily get his jokes and laugh crazy.. And rewatching Corden, fallon now realised how much Conan is superior. M
As a devoted fan who has been following Conan O'Brien since '93, I can't express enough gratitude for this incredible video tribute, "There will never be another Conan O'Brien." Your work beautifully encapsulates the essence of what makes Conan such a unique and irreplaceable figure in the world of late-night television. Having had the privilege to witness firsthand the rise of numerous talents on Conan's show, years before they became household names, I've always admired how Conan not only entertained us but also played a pivotal role in spotlighting and nurturing talent. Your video is a poignant reminder of his extraordinary contribution to the industry. Conan O'Brien is more than just a host; he's a trendsetter, a mentor, and a comedic genius who has left an indelible mark on American television. His wit, charm, and unparalleled ability to connect with both his guests and audience have redefined the role of a television host. This video is a testament to his legacy, capturing the spirit of what he brought to our screens every night. Thank you for dedicating your time and effort to create this masterpiece. It resonates deeply with fans like me, who have cherished every moment of Conan's journey. He is, indeed, an absolute legend, and through your video, his legacy will continue to inspire and entertain generations to come.
This guy never watched Kimmel in his life and commenting on it. Go watch 20th anniversary show and tell me Kimmel has no self-depracting humour. This guy is full of BS.
Think for a moment what a fan might have to say that's capable of witnessing the next generation picking up the mantle and recognizing Conan as a titan in entertainment and setting a new standard for being a great host. Consider that you enjoyed seeing Amy Pohler as a bratty teen in the audience or witnessing Vanessa Beyer in the background of a sketch that never aired. It's truly a unique emotion to witness the growth of a talented actor, writer, or comedian, from getting their start as a page or intern to being one of the most successful shows on the air today. Naturally I'm going to have a lot to say and even more importantly is, knowing who will all read and hopefully relate to my comment. It's intentionally well thought out. I think ya'll are just confusing a lack of grammatical errors for Ai. Grammarly is a very useful tool for any writing enthusiast. Especially for creating beneficial writing habits. @@dardarstar
Andy Richter is literally the best sidekick . There is not one time where his comebacks or riffs were not only hilarious but also intelligent, he delicately balances high and low brow comedy.
Conan O'Brien has been and will always be the absolute best. The kindest, silliest and all around most wonderful funny man ever🥰🥰🥰 I'm his biggest fan and his comedy means the world to me 🥰🥰🥰
Conan is the best! He is also the main reason why I put my shit together and understood the essence of being a genuinely nice guy. I used to be this kind of cynical little "main character" bastard who looked down on everyone. Conan showed me the way to act like a total idiot while still being the smartest man in any situation. Conan acts like the father I wish my own father would've been...
And Martin Short is such a nice person also. In an interview, the interviewer talked to Martin Short as if his wife was still alive, not knowing that she wasn't, and Martin Short, saving the interviewer the embarrassment, pretended that she was still alive.
i just fell to my knees. he is genuinely the only mainstream talk show host that ever made me laugh and still does. knowing he struggled deeply with the Tonight Show debacle, suffering from intense depression, makes me wish he knew just how many people he makes happy. he makes me laugh probably more than any comedian and it makes me so sad NBC and other networks still don't see how genuine nad genuis he is.
Yes, especially his impact on young people. I still remember the feeling I used to get when I heard that music come on: ruclips.net/video/99dzxqy6lGY/видео.html
I love the arc of Conan's journey. A lesser person might have become cynical and bitter by how his time at the Tonight Show ended. Instead, he reacted with awesome dignity, courage, and humour. As a result, not only did he become all the more beloved, in my opinion his legacy is far greater now than it ever could have become as just another long-term Tonight Show host. The guy is a hero. With love from Ireland.
Bonus emphasis to the fact that the dude went through hell before coming out the other side You can see this in candid interviews regarding his music tour that he shot with his wife, where you can see the doubt and anxiety riddling inside him. Dude was majorly scarred and broken from that kerfuffle, but with the help of the people around him, he found a better resolution to it and grew into a role that outshone all of the people before him
His conan without borders and jordan schlansky has propelled conan to a whole new worldwide demographics which could probably never have happened in nbc’s tightly controlled show.
I remember how passionate I was for Team Coco after the Tonight Show debacle. He handled that as best one could after being kicked in the teeth. This dude is brilliant, funny and awesome.
I had the fortune and honor to be at the taping of the very last Connan show on NBC. I could feel the energy shift as he finished his closing speech. But, being in the nosebleeds made it almost impossible to appreciate it. It wasn’t until I got home and saw it on t.v that my heart shattered right along with the crackling of his voice.
Andy's Response to "do you float in the ocean?": "Do you sink? It must be because of that cast iron heart"...that's just in a whole other level of cool-headedness, intelligence, wit and gumption. Conan steals the show, but he is just more visible and Andy has demonstrated to be every bit as talented. Respect. There really is no one like them.
I always thought Conan missed 1 good joke when on TBS, they should've simply done an April Fools episode and switched Conan and Andy. The idea of going to watch and the announcer is Conan announcing Andy (and changing the name of the show to "Andy") sounds hilarious to me.
Thank you for the video! Conan's self-deprecating, silly, non-political humor was such a contrast to all the other late-night shows. In fact, it is (the podcast) a contrast to the entire media landscape. I wish more people realized the quality and value he has been bringing to comedy.
Conan is someone who really perfected his craft by just being himself and it's flawless. He doesn't try to influence politics or personal views, he just wants to be a kid again and make everyone laugh when we all desperately need it. A true legend.
Conan definitely influenced Politics and personal views. But rightfully so. Don't be an asshole who hates people for no other reason than gender, skin color, religion or sexuality?
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 he may have had small segments of taking a shot but he did it to literally everyone the trump ones are just the most recent since his shows been off he's the most neutral guy we have
Kudos to Martin Short for calling out Fallon for the hack he is. Conan is second to none in the late night game. His comedy skits and interactions with his staff are comedy gold.
What I love about Conan is that he's very genuine and kind based on what you hear from people who are both close to him and those who've only met him briefly. He almost always puts the joke on himself, so he never really makes anyone uncomfortable. Plus, he's very quick witted and funny. That's a brilliant combination!
Conan was under appreciated for years. He started off a bit awkward but settled in and people started to love his personality. He’s always been fun to watch and surrounded himself with great people.
This made me sad because I LOVE Conan O'Brien and he's getting old and I just love his remotes. The guy is genuinely the happiest and most down to earth person in Late Night Comedy. He was born to be a late night talkshow host.
I loved Conan from the beginning. He has been the only late night host that I have felt compelled to watch every single episode of. His sense of humor just clicks with me spot on. From the monologue, to the skits, and interviews, i was just in stitches. No one makes me laugh like him and I miss his show terribly
Something that wasn't mentioned was Letterman's support of Conan back when Conan was struggling with ratings. He went on Conan's show as a guest and gave him a glowing and sincere review and really pumped Conan up. This was the start of Conan's ratings going up and is one of I'm sure many reasons why Conan directed his viewers to Letterman's final show.
I'm a guy from China, and Conan is my biggest comedy hero. I appreciate his early struggles, and overcoming them to find his distinct sense of humor. His spontaneity I think is the best. The remotes and bits with his employees are the best of the timeless comedy that he's claimed to be his goal, which he's definitely achieved. Bravo, man ❤
Conan and Ferguson have such special places in my heart. Growing up they were the only two Late Night shows I genuinely looked forward to watching with my Dad. I never really knew what it was that attracted me to those shows at the time but looking back on it I feel that it was because they were the only ones who somehow managed to really care but still somehow didn't take themselves too seriously. They were always invested in the moment and really cared about the people around them. They made absurdity into an artform.
He has also spent decades promoting and boosting the profiles of new comedians. Especially for many UK comedians, his show was often their very first appearance on television in the U.S. He seems like a kind, generous man. Is professional generosity a thing? If so, then that's Conan.
2:25 "He is very generous as a performer, he is not looking to score at your expense, and he is just funny." I did not know Lorne had such a great insight into people's character 😮
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched his skits with his staff, Jordan Schlansky, Clueless Gamer and etc. Conan is that one TV show host who can instantly make your day better with his hilarious non-scripted skits and down-to earth personality. His comedy has helped me with my never ending depression and the inner demons I’m still battling. I hope I get to meet him one day. He really is a one of a kind, remarkable host ❤❤❤
This is what I've been telling everyone. He was the best talk show host ever. Always made it about his guests and never about himself. He's genuinely funny, smart and kind. The likes of which is extremely hard to come by. Luckily for us he's not out of entertainment yet, thanks to his podcast. Long live Conan!
I love that he’s kind of like every other show host (in a bad way) but you can genuinely see that he’s also kind of not (in a good way). You can still tell Conan has an ego like Leno, Maher, Corden, Ellen, etc. But all of those skits with his staff and whatnot lead me to believe he really cares about his staff. When I hear Kimmel, I think Kimmel and Guillermo. When I hear of Ellen, I think of only Ellen. When I I hear Conan, I think about Conan, Andy, Sonya, Schlansky, and more. It took more than Conan to make Conan beloved, and I think he knows that.
@@MinecraftRickAnybody that believes different than he does. Only he gets to be the oppressed snowflake, everyone else is just "virue signaling". They have buzzwords for everything. Waah everybody wants to change my hair color & gender, waaah. Sorry, im part of that "mob" but i love Conan O'Brien too. Learn to live with your neighbors.
He was the smartest and wittiest host. So smart and self-aware so he knows how to approach his guests. Also seemingly down-to-earth as attested by his loyal staff who followed him. He was himself and not some carefully crafted personality. He is now like my favourite, nostalgic childhood hang-out that was gentrified. So sad but I will always remember his legacy.
There's only one thing missing here. Andy Richter. An absolute beast of a co-host. Literally no one did it better and he's 50% of why I watched the show.
Ever since this I first watched this, I first started watching Conan for the first time and now I’m obsessed. He’s such a genuine person and I love him so much 🥺🩷
As someone from Iraq, that did not know what talk shows are (or late night talk show to be exact), until the mid 2000s. I am very grateful that I got introduced to Conan O'Brien in my life time. Never is anyone like him, in regards of comedy, humility, and humanity. I will always appreciate Conan, and wish him all the best in life. Thank you op for this great tribute video.
Conan was a breath of fresh air. He didnt TRY to be funny....he was funny. At times where he needed to be serious, empathetic and understanding, he was. He, based on every bit of content hes put out in the years since he started has pointed to a good human being.....which is something you cant say about most celebrities. I still to this day watch old remotes every now and then. All this coming from someone who hates late night TV (I couldnt care less about what celebrities are up to), I tuned in to Conan because he was genuinely a funny guy and made me laugh. His remotes are hilarious, his charecter is upstanding, and he deserved so much better from an industry that treated him like trash. Regardless, he still managed to become a legend and thats worth every penny. Ill always be a Conan fan.
I love you so very much Conan. I went through struggles with OCD, and Agoraphobia in 2011 and your show helped me overcome it. I almost teared up when you once said “Be kind, work hard, and amazing things will happen” My life shortly changed and today I write inspirational articles for mental health organizations and hospitals. And I am a recipient of 2 awards and a Mighty Leader badge. I am also working on my first book.I say this because we need people like Conan to help us become our best self. John Cena is my hero and he also inspired me. We all have a gift in this world and Conan helped me find mine.❤️
He ABSOLUTELY deserves to host the Oscars in 2025, and if they keep up thier streak of not being completely brain dead with thier presentation and decision making, this could be the best Oscars in a long time
He has got to be one of the best interviewers, if not THE best. The evidence for this is in, of course, the talk show, but his travel shows where he talks to 'regular' people quite effortlessly and entertainingly while always being respectful to the person. Even when he's being irreverent. The improv skills during conversations is at another level.
What a fabulous tribute to an amazing comic! I never even like Late Night shows and would only watch sporadically for the musicians…when I discovered Conan in my 20’s, that all changed! I then just watched his show bc of him…and could have cared less who the guests were. Conan is a gift.
I’ve always struggled with anxiety. It’s a constant battle and has been extreme at times, to the point of not being able to leave the house. Around 8 years ago, I had it under control enough to visit California and to see Conan’s show live. I was anxious about sitting in the audience but his staff were kind enough to let me sit in an aisle seat, which has always helped calm me as I feel less trapped. It was such a great experience and Conan was amazing as always. I just wanted to tell this story as it meant a lot to me and helped my confidence.
A beautiful tribute to one of the most inspirational souls. It's difficult for me to shed a tear even though I feel it on the inside, so I'll just say the closing of this video made me internally cry. Conan is 60 years old right now. I pray for at least 40 more years of Conan--his genius, comedy, and kindness,
Conan is effortlessly funny. He doesn’t need writers (though they are pivotal to comedy shows) to make him funny because he’s a writer himself. Charismatic, witty, smart, sincere. You can’t manufacture that. You either have it or you don’t. He has it. Always has. Grateful to grow up with him.
THANK YOUUUUU. I cried so much during this video and I haven't cried in 3+ years. I've always loved Conan but I didn't fully appreciate his kindness until this video. I have one wish in life and that is to make someone else cry due to my kindness. I know my emotion is due to Conan but thank you so much for creating this video. It was a beautiful experience in it of itself.
Conan is for sure a special person. He gives off a totally natural vibe that he would be genuinely great person to know or meet in real life, a natural comedian and naturally sincere human.
I was so sad to see the end of Conan's TBS show, but quickly realized that we're now in a new golden age of Conan because he shines more than ever in the longer form podcast format. It's so much better when he isn't boxed into 7 minute chunks by commercial breaks.
Authentic, genuine and kind. It’s relaxing and refreshing to see. Love his interviews with Bill Burr the most! So much so I go back to rewatch them every couple of years.
One of my favorite memories of all time would be watching Conan's series in which he travels to different countries like Japan with my family, I remember how we were out of breath from laughing too much. I'm so happy to see so much love for Conan! Loved this video so much!
What's amazing about Conan is that he can create content relatable to any generation. He can talk and joke about politics and world issues on his monologues and in Conan without borders then make content with nerdy, gamer culture on Clueless gamer or his San Diego comicon shows.
Thank you for taking the time to explain with this video exactly why I respect and appreciate Conan O'Brian. My family will always have appreciation for his genuine work.
I honestly had no idea - because I never thought about it - what goes into being a show host.... the part about Rooney Mara kinda opened my eyes at least a little, and I can appreciate what an awesome person O'Brien actually is. Thank you for that. I always liked him. I never really appreciated him like that, and this has definitely increased my respect for him.
Conan during his peak Late Night run was a force to be reckoned with. Dude was just unstoppable with his comedy and his craft. He's still killing it to this day with his remote stuff and his podcast. I truly believe him and Craig Ferguson were just infinitely better than the earlier Leno and Letterman time slots. Conan and Craig could do no wrong. That being said, the long running Mac & Me joke with Paul Rudd is the best thing of all time.
conan's best episodes were during the writers strike.. where he and andy could just jest and joke thru the episode. spinning his wedding ring, german disco light shows, checking in with Abe Vigoda under the seats
Conan is not just an amazing talk show host, he's also an amazing human being. His greatness doesn't stop when the camera stops recording, he's genuinely a good person irl.
Conan is globally renowned and beloved comedian and a legendary late night host, I always tune in to his podcast whenever I can although I’m not into podcasts format just to enjoy the genuine joy he has to offer, without a doubt the best host of our time.
For my mom and I, Conan was our undisputed favourite for over 20 years. We didn't bother watching other shows. My mom hardly knew English but he still made her laugh every time. She would imitate the intro puppet strings/scissors dance and everything.
Hands down the GOAT of late night. No agenda, no decisiveness, an unmatched passion for making people laugh and more importantly… feel good. If only there were more like Conan.
Amazing way of coherently explaining what makes Conan so special. The interview you showed with the shy actress really shows his under the radar way of really making great television. During COVID binged all of his material and now an avid podcast fan. Some of his best crowd work you'll see is in 'Conan Without Borders' where he goes and a good amount of a village may be hostile towards the US and within a few minutes he will not only have won them over, but often they'll be laughing and having an open dialogue.
That reminds me of something I just learned about Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam. There’s a scene where he’s riffin with some actors playing soldiers. Some of those actors were actually from the US or even English speaking actors and he was able to make them laugh despite the language barrier.
Best one for me, and it hits more so now with the ongoing conflict, is his Conan Without Borders episode on Israel/Palestine. He went to the border wall, and some pro-palestine protestors were there, and he actually went and talked to them, and gave them a platform to speak out. Any other mainstream US media talkshow hosts, even political ones (except Jon Stewart), will steer away from any pro-palestinian talks.
Hey guys! Thank you so much for the love on this new video. I'll be making a lot more content moving forward so please consider subscribing!
Hey, good job. I just randomly watched this and I was completely drawn in. The amount of work you put into this was very apparent.
Having said that, you could do an endless series of "1 in a Billion," as no two people are alike. (Unless you are already doing this)
Craig Ferguson… 👑
I want Conan to come out of retirement and host late night TV again. Don’t you agree too?
I find the stark contrast between Conan and Ellen Degeneres very interesting. Ellen's entire on-stage personality was how kind and generous she was and it turns out she was an abusive asshole when the cameras weren't rolling. Meanwhile Conan's on-stage personality was a horrible boss and an annoying creep and it turns out he's genuinely kind guy who's also a great boss.
Exactly This
the sad thing though is that you can totally feel and tell if it's genuine or not in my opinion but a lot of people apparently don't... like, i think I've always felt like something is off about ellen, some skits of hers where funny but I never really liked her or her show... same thing with the others: i always thought jimmy kimmel was coming on too strong sometimes and always thought jimmy fallon was overly "kind" and boring as a result... the only other host i really like is graham norton from bbc...
Whenever I had the displeasure of viewing her show I found it cultish in its praise of how good a person she is, talk about red flag.
@@Lightningranger24 exactly
Dude literally paid his staff out of his own pocket during the transition to California. He’s amazing for
I've always loved how he's genuinely attempting to hold an actual conversation with his guests, allows them to talk and it's just not pathetic pandering or inauthentic rapport. The reason the skits with staff and interns worked so well was because they all understood his style of comedy and legitimately respected and appreciated the guy. He's just an overall credit to humanity!
I agree with you about holding actual conversations.
I'm so waiting for a podcast with Joe rogan
Are you critizing Craig Ferguson?
nah Conan's pretty fake. seems legitimately nice though. Craig Ferguson's where it's at
I disagree, everything I have heard from him is "pathetic pandering and inauthentic rapport". Also If you don't think 99% of this shit is scripted you're one sad bloke... It's A TV show 🤦
There's been a lot of Conan love lately on RUclips and I'll never get sick of it. Conan is the undisputed king. Long live Team Coco
well youtube sure knows what to recommend us Coco fans
I am seeing videos essays about Conan too right now
Nah craig ferguson is absolutely up there. Carson etc.
Conan is absolutely a very disputed "king"
Presumably because the generation that grew up watching Conan have grown up now and are making videos
I recently watched Conan on Hot Ones and it just reinforced why he’s my favorite. He loves people. I have no idea why, but he does and it shows.
Yeah this was awesome, he absolutely dominated that episode.
It was the best episode they ever did! I teared up laughing watching it

He really does. I think he advised young people to please "not be cynical". I did a double take when i watched him say that lol
Humans are naturally social. It's normal to like people.
I hope Conan sees this and knows how much he’s appreciated and admired.
lol he knows. After Tonight show when he was prohibited from appearing on TV for 2 years all he did was tour the world and meet all his fans in person.
Im sure he’ll just find something negative about this because thats how he handles compliments lol. But if ever Conan does see this, youre MY GOAT.

He is the only talk show host to actually care about Comic Con, play a clueless video gamer, travel the world, and make comedy wherever, and give his staff airtime whenever he can. He is the best.
Conan without borders are genuinely one of the best travelling show in television.

I’m 37, that was a long time ago, it’s all good now, but I am forever grateful to Conan for making me feel less alone and like there were more people like me out there in the world 🧡
You summarised the feelings of so many others in these few words, and so I thank you for that 💙🔥
We are so much alike in that sense
Glad you are ok now!
Thats like the ultimate compliment. Laughter is underrated.
For me it was Ali G show, Fonejacker, Peep Show and Late Night.
Yeah it's strange how he wasn't more popular. I think maybe he's too dorky. So even if he's by far the funniest host, most people won't be interested.
Team Coco for the win!
It's because his humor is smart humor. If you haven't got the brains to understand it quickly, you'll miss it or you'll think he's off-putting.
I'm going to watch conan ,norm and courtney thorne-smith again, best show ever😎

He is THE late night host
Conan’s monologues were never super strong. But when he is unscripted, doing interviews or his remotes, he just absolutely crushes it. I think he’s genuinely just such a kind and funny person. Love to see some Conan appreciation posts.
I'd still say the monologues were pretty fun! him and jon stewart were always my favs
His best moments in the dialogue was when it failed and he could riff on that. No one is better at self deprecated comebacks.
@@tentardigrades968 i agree. his monologues were not my favorites but he is genuine and real and i like that. people like that.
He’s like the inverse of Colbert who is really great at delivering monologues but sucks at interviewing.
As a showman , Conan is definitely on the mount Rushmore of talk shows. I never felt ease and comfort while watching Ellen or kimmel. Conan was different. Not just as a host , but as a person too. He helped me through a lot of my bad mondays. Thanks Conan!
Craig Ferguson is my favourite, that being said Conan is a lot more... wideranged
Ellen and Kimmel should never be mentioned in the same sentence with Conan.
He's an asshole infront of the camera, and a good guy behind it.
@@BenchongDy I liked your comment (because it's original and funny) but "asshole" is kind of an "overstatement" 🙂 I would go for playful jerk but perhaps we're used to a lot more over here in Europe 😛
The only contender to Conan is Graham Norton
Conan himself isn’t funny whatsoever. He got into Harvard by riding on his father’s coattails. He doesn’t have a talented bone in his body. Once you remove the Halo effect from his height, handsome face, and Harvard diploma, you will - hopefully, if you have any sense - see him as just another unfunny human being. Louis CK and Bill Burr are genuinely funny. Conan isn’t.
Craig Ferguson was also pretty great. He did such an incredible job at deconstructing the format.
I remember those episodes!
Whenever writers strike good content is produced. They grossly overestimate how good they are and they're a dime a dozen.
he's simply the greatest, not because he has a flashy, larger-than-life, superstar image, but because he's just himself and is so down to earth.
The character Conan portrays on screen is an exaggerated version of himself. Bless, Conan.
Nice video, too 🙌
His audience was always younger than the Boomer majority audience of Jey Leno and David Letterman.
It's just a question of network.
Half of people don't really "watch" TV, they leave it open on some main channel and leave.
Craig Ferguson is the GOAT, doesn't make Conan any worse.
@@spookrockcityBut Leno had bad ratings in the primetime slot. It didn't work.

Cried like a baby over this
Indeed, the most unproblematic, most genuine host ever.
He seems like the most genuine person not only of all late night hosts, but just in the entire tv industry

Ever since I found Conan as a kid, I never outgrew his content. Always found him entertaining from a kid to an adult. Seems super genuine.
i just fell to my knees. he is genuinely the only mainstream talk show host that ever made me laugh and still does. knowing he struggled deeply with the Tonight Show debacle, suffering from intense depression, makes me wish he knew just how many people he makes happy. he makes me laugh probably more than any comedian and it makes me so sad NBC and other networks still don't see how genuine nad genuis he is.
Bonus emphasis to the fact that the dude went through hell before coming out the other side
You can see this in candid interviews regarding his music tour that he shot with his wife, where you can see the doubt and anxiety riddling inside him.
TAY-TOS!
Also, Chelsea Handler sucks 😃
Thank you for the video! Conan's self-deprecating, silly, non-political humor was such a contrast to all the other late-night shows. In fact, it is (the podcast) a contrast to the entire media landscape. I wish more people realized the quality and value he has been bringing to comedy.
Conan is someone who really perfected his craft by just being himself and it's flawless. He doesn't try to influence politics or personal views, he just wants to be a kid again and make everyone laugh when we all desperately need it. A true legend.
I'd disagree somewhat on the political views, guy rightfully roasted Trump every chance he got
@@anthonyvillanueva5226every comedian does that since even before he ran office
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 its trump...
Conan helped me through depression and make me smile in my darkest days…. He is and will always be my icon and the best host/comedian in the world.
Bravo, man ❤
who knew he had a chinese audience that is so unexpected and cool!
I love Conan. Great video!
Finally someone who knew what Conan worth and truly appreciates one of the GOAT of late night show host.
There’s only one goat of late night. And that would be Johnny Carson
He has also spent decades promoting and boosting the profiles of new comedians. Especially for many UK comedians, his show was often their very first appearance on television in the U.S. He seems like a kind, generous man. Is professional generosity a thing? If so, then that's Conan.
And musical bands. His show was the first appearance to so many geat talents.
2:25 "He is very generous as a performer, he is not looking to score at your expense, and he is just funny."
I did not know Lorne had such a great insight into people's character 😮
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched his skits with his staff, Jordan Schlansky, Clueless Gamer and etc. Conan is that one TV show host who can instantly make your day better with his hilarious non-scripted skits and down-to earth personality. His comedy has helped me with my never ending depression and the inner demons I’m still battling. I hope I get to meet him one day. He really is a one of a kind, remarkable host ❤❤❤
yes he's awesome. he's both art & the artist.
Jordan Schlansky's bits were always my favorites
Youre not the only one my friend. Conan and his team are my therapist
Conan was, is, and always will be my favorite late night host.
Conan is one of the smartest, intelligent man I’ve seen on TV in decades. He seems grounded and unfazed by today’s moronic “virtuous” mob.
he's also the kindest person I've seen on tv
What ""virtuous" mobs" are we talking about?
@@MinecraftRickAnybody that believes different than he does. Only he gets to be the oppressed snowflake, everyone else is just "virue signaling". They have buzzwords for everything. Waah everybody wants to change my hair color & gender, waaah.
Sorry, im part of that "mob" but i love Conan O'Brien too. Learn to live with your neighbors.
@@MinecraftRick If they're implying that Conan isn't as clued into social justice and anti-bigotry, they'd be wrong.
Craig Ferguson is wittier. Conan more complete overall and attends to a wider audience
I'd say Craig Furgeson is funnier. His comebacks are razer sharp and he's quick.
Conan's super power is that he's a good person, right down to his core
What I have always loved about Conan is when his jokes don't land during his monologue he uses that awkward situation and actually makes it funny.
Exactly, he isn't fake and actually maintains a radar for comedy
Oh my God, I cried. I think aside from Conan being the center of this story, the storytelling itself is so good. Thank you!
There's only one thing missing here. Andy Richter. An absolute beast of a co-host. Literally no one did it better and he's 50% of why I watched the show.
Are you sure it's not because of...
Jordan Schlansky?
True facts. Their chemistry carried each other perfectly.
No Andy was definitely acknowledged in the video.
remember when Andy broke the couch😂
Ever since this I first watched this, I first started watching Conan for the first time and now I’m obsessed. He’s such a genuine person and I love him so much 🥺🩷
As someone from Iraq, that did not know what talk shows are (or late night talk show to be exact), until the mid 2000s. I am very grateful that I got introduced to Conan O'Brien in my life time.
Never is anyone like him, in regards of comedy, humility, and humanity.
I will always appreciate Conan, and wish him all the best in life.
Thank you op for this great tribute video.
I teared up watching this man. Thanks for showing the brilliant human being Conan O'Brien is❤
Conan was a breath of fresh air.
Im so glad someone finally noticed this. Ive always said Conan is by FAR the best talkshow host on TV.
This is the best homage to Conan ive ever seen, and he deserves every bit of it! I still listen to his podcasts every week.
There will never be another Conan, but there will be somebody else who's great in ways nobody has thought of yet.
Love that
He ABSOLUTELY deserves to host the Oscars in 2025, and if they keep up thier streak of not being completely brain dead with thier presentation and decision making, this could be the best Oscars in a long time
He has got to be one of the best interviewers, if not THE best. The evidence for this is in, of course, the talk show, but his travel shows where he talks to 'regular' people quite effortlessly and entertainingly while always being respectful to the person. Even when he's being irreverent. The improv skills during conversations is at another level.
That second city training never left him
What a fabulous tribute to an amazing comic!
Conan and Norm will always be some of my favorite segments in all of late night tv.
Conan really is the best. There’s a reason you never hear acting bad about him
THANK YOUUUUU. I cried so much during this video and I haven't cried in 3+ years. I've always loved Conan but I didn't fully appreciate his kindness until this video. I have one wish in life and that is to make someone else cry due to my kindness. I know my emotion is due to Conan but thank you so much for creating this video. It was a beautiful experience in it of itself.
this was such a sweet comment. thank you so much for the support! :D
This was such a well edited and engaging video. It held my attention the whole time which is rare nowadays. Great job.
He is hilarious, creative, genuine and downright a great human being. And there absolutely will never be another Conan O'Brien.
Conan and Craig's late show were *chef kiss PERFECT
“If you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen.”
-Conan O’Brien
Love you, Coco ❤
conan's best episodes were during the writers strike.. where he and andy could just jest and joke thru the episode. spinning his wedding ring, german disco light shows, checking in with Abe Vigoda under the seats
