    The key to any iron, driver, 3-wood, utility club, and the putter is having a very, very experienced and fair-minded club fitter that understands your hitting capability. The club manufacturers have, over the past few years done a great job in partnering up with many well-known shafts manufacturers and offering a nice variety of them for the consumer to choose from. In this day and of golfing, you are not doing yourself justice by just picking a club and shaft without knowing which works the best for you. After all, if a "up-shaft" offers you 20% more yardage and increases your accuracy by 15%...that is a lot more opportunity for you to lower your score and play "better golf."

    I just recently purchased an upgrade after market shaft after the recommendation of my younger brother who had went for the upgraded Tensei CK PRO shaft $300.00, he said it was the most stable golf shaft he had ever had in his hands, after two weeks he purchased another for his other driver and loved it just as much.
    My purchase after doing some homework was the 55 gram Stiff VA Vylyn shaft $235.00 here in the States, and I have to say it is the most stable great feeling shaft I have ever played with in over 50 years of golfing, I'm hitting it higher with less spin and an easy 7 to 10 yards more. But the big thing is the feel and the stability at impact, unfreaking believable, at this time I'm going to wait before I buy another, but I assure I think I will. This is our opinion, but that is important to us, good video post guys, thanks.

    I had a custom Shaft fitting as I was given a Sim Max Driver and Sim titanium 3 Wood for my birthday.
    They both had Fujikura Ventus Blue Stiff Shafts.
    My Driver was launching too high, which made me lose distance and I was struggling to get any consistency with it. At the fitting, I was hitting an average yardage of 234yds in total, with spin average of 3480.
    I was also struggling to get My 3 Wood to launch and get any height when playing it off the Floor. My average total yardage with that was 200yds.
    After trying numerous Shaft options. I was fitted for the following.
    Driver.... Graphite Design Tour AD BB 7X. Launch was a lot lower, I was a lot more consistent and total average 264yds with spin average of 2460.
    3 Wood... Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 7X. Launched the ball higher off the floor, again I was very consistent and total average 234yds with it.
    As you as see, there was a significant difference in the numbers. Yes they were very expensive, but I’m a firm believer in “You get what you pay for”
    The real point here is why are Club manufacturers putting watered down versions of Shafts on their clubs and not informing us of this!!!
    A top of the range Fujikura Ventus Blue Shaft will cost you over £300 to buy, so why is there no description on the stock shaft version of this you get with your Driver telling you the compound quality of it? They should be doing this!!!!

      It's because stock shafts whip more which will lead to the occasional smash home run which will feed the ego of most weekend golfers and motivate them to fork over the cash. I have Ventus, GD and Diamana aftermarket shafts and they are all great shafts. I have a stock Ventus Blue in my 3W and I don't want to put an aftermarket shaft in it because the extra spin of the stock shaft helps me.

    • @lkae4
      @lkae4 11 месяцев назад

      If you go with a lower spin driver head, you could probably play a lighter shaft and get a bit more distance. I went from a TSr3 to a Paradym Triple Diamond and gained in consistency and distance. About 245 total yds to 272 total yds in 11 drives the other day. My spin was around 2500, now probably 2100.

    I use a Ping G410 Plus and used the Stock Tensei Orange CK regular flex shaft that came with the club. Was hitting slices to oblivion and ball was launching higher than a kite. After some work on my ball position, stance at address, and time on a simulator my distance and overall swing speed increased but my slices were more pronounced whenever I'd miss the middle of the face. I went ahead an bought a used Tensei AV Raw shaft stiff flex given my swing was now 10-12 mph faster than when I first strted golfing in May and noticed a huge difference in the feel and less of a whippy effect. I was finding the center of the club face more and even lowered the loft setting on my driver and now found my optimal settings. I would say for a new golfer, working with the stock shafts are fine especially when you're starting out because I could only imagine how discouraged I would be buying a premium shaft when I started out and still getting subpar results without being able to work on mechanics first. Once you have imrpoved and found mechanically what works best for you is when I would then consider upgrading your shaft because if you care about improving your game and especially improving your drives, then getting fit and looking at a premium shaft would be the way to go for I think most who are honest with their game. If you're just playing for the fun of the game, don't get a premium shaft, but if you are looking to improve, 10-15 yard more and better dispersion is worth the investment. I went from Driving the ball 180 yards - 230 yards (At my absolute best and farthest) with my stock regular flex shaft.....now I am consitently hitting between 210-240 yards (Excluding some absolute boms as outliers in the 250's-260's) consistently, usually in play, never hooking it anymore and sometimes a push fade right. Driving has become much more predicatble for me and enjoyable with the upgraded shaft and spin has been great. The best part too is I was able to buy a $250 shaft for less than half the price and enjoy the benefits of it.

    I had a custom fitting with Titleist a little while ago, I ended up with the Ventus blue shaft on the driver (TSR2), much lower ball flight and less spin ,max smash factor and better distance than the best of the stock offerings for my swing. Interestingly , we went with the Tensei blue on the 3W and hybrid, higher ball flight was needed on those clubs.

    I use a $500 upgrade shaft in my driver it was far and away the best for me in my fitting not for length but in dispersion i use a Garmin s60 watch to keep track of my stats and have gone from 7/14 average fairways hit to 12/14 and a drop in handicap of 2 due to it so for me at least it was worth the money plus i really like the bright purple color of the shaft

    Interesting test. I guess if I were to buy an upgraded shaft for my Ping G 400 Max driver I would only do so if the dispersion figures make it worth it. These were interesting results Andy. My swing speed in not all that fast. I think its only about 85 to 90. I have been wondering about this shaft stuff for some time now. Spider

    Got 2 mitsubishi Diamana b series 60 x shafts for driver ,had them a couple of years ,fantastic for me .Got mine when the the new bf series came out so very much reduced in price and they fit me fine .Find something that works and stick with it no matter what the shaft is .If you want after market shafts look at models a year or two old there are great deals to be had ,Mine was fitted for me and the numbers were better than anything else ,so great for confidence .Too many people play shafts that are too long in the driver which is the worst thing for you're game ,most pros use a driver that is around 44.5 in length while us handicappers are expected to hit 46 inch + shafts ,crazy .As for Crossfield ,he has a thing about shafts and bangs on about it all the time yet he has deep impact shafts in his rescue clubs and a different shaft in his driver now ,I wouldn't believe him if he told me if night follows day .

Got fitted for a Tensei Blue X in the Epic Sub Zero then tried the upgrade blue "tour" shaft and it felt completely different and the only way I could describe it was stable. No gains but I preferred the feel and if something feels good you use it more. So il be getting the upgrade think its only £100 extra.

    Also - I find I can vary my shot type and move the ball better with the upgraded shaft because it is more balanced. If I do this with the tensei it doesn’t work nearly as well. Flat out and straight the tensei works but not if I want to fade/draw slow swing etc - then it doesn’t perform nearly as well.

    Swing speed 115-117 I've found a bigger difference in feel and seeing the ball fly how I want it to than actual performance, similar to you. But that matters to me enough to justify the price. My guess is that there's tighter quality control on premium shafts and therefore more variation in performance in stock shafts. But that's just my gut feeling, not based on anything real.

    I’ve got an upgrade shaft, but bought it off eBay for half the price it would normally be. On course is where it matters, and the upgrade shaft gives me better dispersion, but more importantly confidence to go after a shot without fear of losing it majorly to the right. The upgrade shaft is heavily tip stiff and counterbalanced, which will allow you to add more weight to the clubhead and increase ball speed a little bit. Heavier head weight will offer a bit more resistance to twist too. Ie higher MOI. Not everyone suits a counterbalanced shaft though, so definitely horses for courses. Give it a go if you can get your hands on one mate....Fujikura Pro 2.0 Tour Spec. Tensei Orange is similar, but make sure it’s the pro version and not the standard. Massive difference in shaft profile between the standard and pro versions of all Tensei shafts.

Reason I did the switch to the ventus shaft was the feel by far was unbelievable compared to the tensi orange.

    I use the upgrade Adi driver shaft. The standard tensei blue In my fairway.
    That word STABILITY is king. For the length of shaft in driver that is CRUCIAL for dispersal. In order to try to get same balance, and prevent tip twist I was having to try heavier shafts which effected distance because my speed dropped.
    Also it’s about FEEL. The ad-i is more solid and also consistent.
    The shorter the shaft ie fairway and utility are not quite as important.
    So, absolutely, it’s worth paying extra, but I got the feeling this video set out to disprove the worth rather than an open mind tbh.

    Hi TAG,
    I was having issues with hitting my standard driver shaft, then the other day I switched my driver shaft (60g x stiff) with my standard 3 wood shaft (75g stiff). Now the length difference is 2.5 inches. But since changing I have lost no distance been hitting my driver around 260 yards in our winter in Australia right now. Callaway are the cheapest for upgrade shafts. £60 for a tour ad driver shaft, less in a 3 wood and free in a hybrid. Quality shafts that do make a difference. Do play stiffer than stock shafts, which may of affected your numbers, but consistency is the key to these shafts.

    Best move in driver shaft for me was shortening the driver shaft by 0.75" to 44.5" - total cost (including VAT) £12!
    I did get a slight upgrade in my 5w - gained a few yards (probably solely because I feel more confident with it to really go after it) and slight consistency improvement, but I use my 5w a lot for shorter par 4s and second shot into long par 5s, but it was not a huge cost certainly significantly less than a new 5w.
    IMO the marketing of shafts as "high launch", "mid kick" etc tends as both Crossfield & TXG have shown repeatedly (!), to be complete nonsense

    • @fergusreeverealestate.7409

      Justin Stephenson 100% agree with you! I swing pretty fast and I’m a decent player, but I cut my 45.75” Ping g400 lst down to 45.00”. It was a standard/stock stiff shaft, nothing fancy, and I immediately gained around 10 yards on my drives on the course as measured by my arrcos.
      After 7 rounds with my “new” shorter shaft, I am still averaging 9 yards more per drive than my previous average before I cut it... and that is a substantial data set in a variety of course conditions all measured by arccos.
      Shorter shaft=more control= more confidence = faster swing = ball goes further and straighter.
      Good luck to you sir!

    This ignores that the manufacturers used to include "made for" shafts that weren't the equivalent of the aftermarket shafts under the presumption that the average golfer needed a weaker shaft than they thought. Minimally those undermined consumer confidence and the manufacturers changed to including very high quality shafts in their standard offerings. All shafts available today are really "upgrade shafts."

      Here’s the best 3 options. 1. Buy a TS2 head only. (It will be about £100 cheaper without a shaft.) Go for your fitting and get fitted. 2. Buy a TS2 with a stock shaft. Go for a fitting. When you’ve got your new upgraded shaft, sell the stock shaft on somewhere like eBay or Amazon. 3. Do as number 2, but don’t sell the stock shaft. Keep it and when you come around to selling your TS2, put the original stock shaft back on it before you sell it. You can either keep the fitted shaft for your next Driver or sell it on eBay or Amazon.

    For me and my 85mph club head speed - the challenge i gave my fitter was to gain the maximum performance possible - I need tight dispersion and obviously max distance - lower swing speed leads to lower spin as well - we ended up with a 13.5 degree driver and a Fujikura Speedster Evolution III 569 (59gm) regular shaft - medium high launchbut with flighting and spin that will keep the ball in the air a bit longer. - the club maker pured the shaft - total cost over GBP 350 for the shaft and fitting. I play PXG so the relative cost of shaft to head was not out of line.

    Good afternoon,
    I currently play a TSI2 driver
    My swing speed is 98 miles an hour
    The shaft in my driver is the Tensei Blue AV SFW 55 gram stiff.
    Currently when I swing my driver, I am UNABLE to FEEL the head load in the shaft.
    I am looking for a shaft that would help me have a better feeling of the head loading.
    I have done extensive research on graphite design shafts, but not any other manufacture
    What do you suggest?

    • @nielsaxelsson
      @nielsaxelsson Год назад +1

      @roberthammer2446 I was fit yesterday in a TSR3 head. I had fine results with the Tensei Blue (albeit 60 g Stiff), but like you could not really feel the head. I had not given them that info yet, as they after a little internal chat suggested I try the Graphite Design Tour AD UB 6 S. WOW was that a completely different feel. From the first swing, I immediately felt like I knew where everything was - head, shaft... Also a firmer, more connected and "precise" feeling. The dispersion was also much better but not longer. I will be ordering the upcharge combo later today - the connected feeling of control I am sure will spill over to more confidence and thereby better reults on course.

    I find Mizuno the best company for very good shafts at no extra cost , I play an x shaft so that’s the main reason I went for the Mizuno driver this year , got fitted in the Kura kage which , day , Fleetwood and McIlroy have played , I find the other company’s do poor level of quality shaft for the faster swinger or player with more speed ,

    • @chrischampion727
      @chrischampion727 5 лет назад

      The Kuro Kage that Mizuno offers is not the same after market premium Kuro Kage played by the pros. While KK TiNi Dual Core Silver is a very good shaft, it’s profile isn’t close to the KK XT or new XD the pros play. Those are $400 + shaft in the US.

    • @jpxst180s6
      @jpxst180s6 5 лет назад

      Those must only be released I did not find them on their website ,
      The silver dual is a serious shaft that was in fact used by the pros , it has torc of 2.7 in the 86 weight and 3.1 in the 77 , they are Serious shafts

      www.mca-golf.com/products/xd
      Here’s a link to the XD which just replaced the XT which was the shaft that McIlroy and Day used to play in their drivers. I think they both used 70 TX, but may have used the 80 TX. Day might be back in it again. At the bottom of the page is the EI curves of the Silver DC TiNi, XT, & XD. The Silver DC TiNi is the softer of the three profiles. The Kuro Kage line are great shafts! I play an XT 60X. I only swing driver about 108-110 mph and what I like about the XT is it plays like an X but doesn’t feel boardy like a lot of X shafts do to me. It has a little higher torque than a lot of X shafts. It’s is stable but smooooth!

    Not many AVERAGE golfer can afford just one club, let alone $300 more each, for 3 wood shafts. Golf, like many other sports are pricing themselves out of business. It may be another 5 years or so before they realize it, but the crap is just 4 times more than I can afford. I'm glad those of you=who can, but realize than most of us could NEVER do it. I would love to have a current driver, but I just bought a NEW one last year that was a 4-5 year old driver. The same reason I could never get custom fitted, not even for one club because it is so expansive for the fitting.

    I dont understand all the aftermarket shaft hate going around. First of all its usually a one time purchase. You get fit for it, and you can play it for life. Its not like your buying this every year. Second thing i dont hear anybody mentioning is the manufactuers tolerences. An aftermarket shaft usually has tighter tolerences. Stock shafts can vary from shaft to shaft quite a bit. You get an aftermarket and you know what your getting. But the differences between stock and aftermarket arent that big. Its not going to take ten, or even 5 strokes off your game. But there definitely is a difference in feel most of the time.

    You guys are talking nonsense. I play with the Graphite Design ADDI 6S shaft and I was custom fit for this shaft due the charachteritics of my swing when I was fit at the Titlesit fitting centre. The combination of the right shaft and the right head gave me an overall increase in distance of 17 yards.
    Please watch a qualitty channel like TXG Golf or Golf Principles - Jason Mcniven. Jason has over 400 upgrade shafts at his establishment at different price points and different flexes - weights - colours and prices.
    When i recently bought my new driver I upgraded the shaft on Clubhouse Golf when i purchased my Callaway Epic Flash - the upgrade charge was £60.for a £300 shaft. I could sell this shaft for.£150.all day long on ebay.
