This is just like the 350 and 370z. Base models didn't get an LSD. The difference is that you could buy a brand new base 370z for about 30k just over a year ago. An open diff and base brakes are a harder sell at 40k. If it costs close to 50k to get one that's fairly loaded, that will take away a lot of the advantage the new Z was supposed to have over the Supra.

Base model will be 40-43K. The MSRP is 40K and that would go up by the dealer. And don’t forget the taxes etc. Easily base model in total could cost 45K+
I feel like most people will mod & tune the Z, so the base model will sell better (cheaper & save money for modding). Hoping it will be a successful tuner car, & i hope the aftermarket will be as big as the 350 & 370 Also heard MRSP for the base model is $38k before fees & destination
@@4567playstation OTD $45K base without an LSD is a hard sell for me when the 86 comes base with one for under $30K… + a $6K supercharger… save’n almost $10K there

I bought a 2019 sport version which was about $4k more than the $30k base, which was worth it to me. I'd only go for the performance version on this Z.

Realistically with mark up, taxes, etc the sport will be nearly $50k OTD. Looking to add a sports car to my garage as I just bought a 21 Tacoma, but damn cars are so expensive nowadays so idk
ID argue that you want the base model over the sport, its all the same except wider tires and no LSD, with a 10k price difference. LSD maybe 1500, wheels and tires 2-4k for a whole set, plus you keep the stock set for the winter.
My guess is that the difference will be around $8K. Sport starting at $40K and Perf at $48K. With options and destination, Sport @ $43K and Perf @ $51K
If the lsd and rev match were on the sport model it would be a great deal and I would be tempted. The performance trim brings the price up to mustang gt and Camaro ss territory which are just way more powerful cars with way higher potentials.
@@kainemarsh9001 depends on ur budget remember a new car for after market parts isnt cheap even when going cheap i say atleast suspension and rims it should come with a lsd from factory and would put a twin disc clutch or stage 3 from a good company maybe a hydro e brake and call it a day

Now that we know it's a 10k difference. how else do u expect nissan to beat the competition & offer a 400hp car for $40k base? you're going to lose features if you're opting for the cheaper one. 50k for top trim is still underpriced vs its competition. plus actually offering a manual. at least they didn't go the Zupra route & offer a lower end version. where they took away 2 cylinders.
Chevy and Ford sell their v8 cars with more power for under 40k. This 400z is pretty much a re-skinned 370z, so no reason why it should start that high.
@@49rs1fan comments kinda biased. Chrysler & chevy's & i think fords mustang too are on chassis as old as the 370z or older. just with "a new skin" & some refinements. thats why they're also in the same price bracket. they also weigh alot more & have more seats. lol
It really sucks when manufacturers tie together the performance goodies with the "soft-handed golfer luxury crap" and drive the price through the roof. Yes, you get a lot for $5k, but I only care about half of it. I say Sport with aftermarket LSD.
I'm debating to get this 400Z Performance and pair it with my two Datsun 280Z's or get myself an R32 GTR or a RHD Supra! So many choices!!! I cant makeup my mind! I want them all!!
I'd still buy the base spec and then just go aftermarket for the LSD or even just outright buy a replacement part from a Nissan parts dealer for the LSD. The launch Shit and extra computer nonsense is garbage I don't care at all about and honestly if I could opt out of the entirety of the infotainment shit and go back to regular good old fashioned gauges and just a regular Radio/CD player with a USB port I'd go for that. If I'm being honest IF I COULD, opt out of the ABS, ESC and ETC as well as all the unnecessary computer garbage in the cabins of modern cars, in favour of just bare bones basic, I WOULD. But alas I can't, most of the nonsense is pretty much required these days. Cause over half the drivers can't even drive without that shit.
Agree 100%. I brought home the sport last weekend and love that it feels like the cars I used to race in the 90's. I'll probably put in an aftermarket lsd, but I've been matching my own revs in cars and on bikes for almost 40 years, I like it.
Man i remember when I bought my 2013 grand sport back in 2014 with only 7K miles and for $30K OTD. I miss that car but I'm aiming to get this new Z next yr.
To get the model with the lsd your paying atleast an extra 8k. You can buy the lsd for the z for 1k. Easy to put in yourself. Paying 7in labor essentially is wild
There’s a reason they offer a lot more features in the 9-speed Automatic Performance version vs the Sport Manual: Automatics pay the bill. And after looking at the ND Miata throughout the years and knowing how absolutely hard core they love manuals, the ND STIll mostly were bought in Automatic. So I predict most sold will be Automatic as well. Only thing that irks me is no LSD for Sport Manual, it’s basically a given for even the low HP Manual Miatas so what’s up with that.
Damn, Weak base model all things considered, theres gonna be alot of performance trims selling then. 45k though (speculating) im sure the supra is gonna cut prices to make it more competitive. Nissan set out to disrupt the sport coupe market and did it.
Problem with the Supra is Toyota doesn't make it themselves they are effectively buying it from BMW so they have to mark up the price to make a profit. Toyota doesn't have much wiggle room to drop prices unless they want to sell at a loss.
Depends on the quality of the Nissan LSD. Will it be a clutch based LSD that can overheat and wear over time? In that case, maybe a Sport with torsen/gear style LSD would be an upgrade. The performance version actually comes with a bunch of things I don't want. So if the price difference is high over the sport version, the higher cost will be a touch sell for me.
Its funny that even the exhaust tips on the new z are exactly the same ones on the q50/ q60... They really did just dop the whole drivetrain from the infiniti into the new z. Not mad at it, in fact its super dope. Just thought it was funny that even the exhaust tips are identical. Obviously this could change in the final production model, but i kinda hope it doesn't. Shows there is more heritage in this car than from just the z line up.
Agree in theory--If the Supra introduced the car with a 3.0T 6cylinder and then 6mos later brought out the 2.0T 4cylinder I am thinking Nissan may follow suit....Rationale- Supra is main competition, a lower price point would allow it to compete with 86/BRZ, a resulting lower weight, better MPG, more nimble, more customers could afford it, and who are not impressed with 400hp....285hp to 300hp would be fine for many including me ...On the street /in traffic you can only use so much power....My timeframe for a new car is 1yr away so I am sitting and waiting to see if what I mention comes true...
With all those options, the Performance would definitely be worth it but I’m curious on the price tag difference. The Nismo is supposedly on its way as well
Owner of a 300zx TT here. They should not sell a sports car without a LSD! And Nissan has been weak in the braking department for a long time. I'm afraid the sport model will suffer as a result. I think there is room for two trim options, but the lower (Sport) needs a little more of the sports car basics and the upper (Performance) should be available without all of the tech/creature comfort features. Put the latter in an "Executive Package" so someone with real driving ambitions is not shut our from the good stuff due to cost of the Performance!
Many are comparing this as a lesser value to what a buying a cheaper new Mustang can offer. I think the Mustang is still a heavier car and uses larger rims. Yet as it is the safety features the fed mandates on crash tests and impact zones is going to make every sports cars heavier no matter what. Look at the Dodge Challenger, a huge sports car at 3,858 - 4,428 pounds.
Meh. If you worry about this stuff and have the $$ then wait for the Nismo version . I bought a Nismo 370Z with 6sp Manual over the Nismo automatic or the other (Touring) packages. Never looked back., and haven’t needed to modify it much. Probably a similar thing will happen here. You’ll get all the performance upgrades plus more Torque & HP. My latest idea - buy the performance Z now and then flip it and buy the Nismo Z when that comes out.
"Peasant" 8 inch vs 9 inch screen? This video is informative, but over-emphasis the differences. Personally I like manual adjust seats, and would not drive this vehicle in winter, so don't care about heated seats/mirrors. Mainly the LSD I would care about. Will be interesting to see the prices and difference between the two versions.
Everyone compares this to the supra which I understand both are JDM but how many supras do you see compared to mustang. A GT Premium with performance pack 401 upgrade and magneride is around 52 with more room more power and 4 seats. If these are over 45 for the performance I'm guessing I still won't see any Z cars in my area. Base price of a gt premium is 40 which sounds like it blows away the base Z and is probably close to the performance Z. When I heard base of 30K I was guessing 40K for the performance and was getting in line to buy one. If it's now around 50k I would definitely go to the mustang.
Somehow I don't think I'm shoveling 6-5" into this car. The previous one was too small, so I'm figuring this one will be too. Last one of the four I owned was in 88.
I feel like it has to be under 40k more like 35-38k (and closer to the 35k) for the sport and 40-45k for the performance otherwise The Z starts going up against Mustangs GTs, 3.0 Supra's, and even base model and/or used Corvettes...all of which are better performing considering the estimated 0-60 is low to mid 4 seconds. Though tbh the base Supra is also over priced. p.s oh yeah and no LSD not buy thats just dumb
I wish Nissan would allow the buyer to spec the car out. There are certain things I want and don't need in the performance. From a Sport to a Performance I'd only want the brakes and the LSD diff. And I'm even wondering if you can swap the 4p brakes from the 370z onto this car for less.
Yeah it kinda sucks that you cant just chose what options you want, but at the end of the day it does make it a hell of alot easier to know what your getting.
@@Coyote350 simplification of the process. Maybe they could add a Clubman version where everything is base for weight savings with the brakes and LSD. Even if the performance is definitely giving a lot of bang for the buck on the enhancements, imo it is good to have the base trim for those who really love the looks and you still get the power and great bare bones that make the Z a tuner favorite. So if you want a track toy and love upgrades, some of these may not cut it for you so having the option to get a cheaper base car makes sense
Base model will be 40-43K. The MSRP is 40K and that would go up by the dealer. And don’t forget the taxes etc. Easily base model in total could cost 45K+
I feel like most people will mod & tune the Z, so the base model will sell better (cheaper & save money for modding). Hoping it will be a successful tuner car, & i hope the aftermarket will be as big as the 350 & 370
Also heard MRSP for the base model is $38k before fees & destination
Is this AUD? I thought AUD will be 70k
@@4567playstation OTD $45K base without an LSD is a hard sell for me when the 86 comes base with one for under $30K… + a $6K supercharger… save’n almost $10K there
Obviously the sport version is basically a throwback to the original Z cars. I think people will just have to drive them both and see what works for them. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sport model is actually the more engaging car to drive.
I found it to be, which is why I drove it home.
I bought a 2019 sport version which was about $4k more than the $30k base, which was worth it to me. I'd only go for the performance version on this Z.
Wow! All the info I was looking for in a sub 40min video
Haha thanks mate I try to condense them to be as short as possible.
They know their audience, base model is a great base for modifications. Guys who buy that will be changing out their own wheels, diffs, suspensions etc. All I hear when you list off the performance additions is useless weight and complexity, pass pass and pass.
Bruh they didn't even offer rev matching in the sport trim. So they could say the Z "starts under 40k" while forcing people to go higher lol
Just do it yourself fam
@@Coyote350 I like manual but I'm not trying to hate my life while driving in stop and go traffic. Besides, I never learnt rev matching and this will be my first fast car
@@cosmic_gate476 Well it will definitely be an awesome car. Congrats! You don't rev match in stop and start anyway. Rev matching is super easy to learn. Its Heel toe that actually requires skill.
Y would you get sport at all
If it's a 5k difference i don't Think anyone really will buy the sport
prices will be 35k sport and 40k performance, but LSD should have been std for both , as also std the rear lip and front splitter for both......They should have offered more monotone color choices for paint .....LSD should at least be an option on the sport .
But....Nissan is going to use to the lower priced "Sport" to create perceived value...and the LSD is there to help upsell customers to the "Performance" trim.
@@markallen2984 although LSD is preferred IMO I would not want to cough up 5k to include it ( despite getting other upgrades as well)....Despite all glory boys pointing out the necessity for LSD "on the track" mine would strickly be used on the street and am fatigued by those who get caught up in being part of the 'upsell". .. To me this would be great at 35k ( and considering this version is just a 370Z chassis with slight improvement/ changes and which began at $31k when it departed)......At $40k plus much less so....
Being 25, seeing these little kids on yt thrashing these new cars is getting old. I was stunned when I found out the base model is 40k. That's something I could possibly afford by 2023. I'd even sell my auto TT 335i if I have to. I. Want. This. Car. It's high time I pull the funds out of my ass for my very own. I'd be more than happy with the sport. It seemed like cars like these are no longer available for blue collar guys. I'm not missing out! I love the black diamond & blue, I really hope I can get one in either of those colors.
Realistically with mark up, taxes, etc the sport will be nearly $50k OTD. Looking to add a sports car to my garage as I just bought a 21 Tacoma, but damn cars are so expensive nowadays so idk
Sold out period!
why u buy performance if ur planning to change brakes suspension and exhaust and lsd?
I want to get the automatic… how much do y’all think it will be? I heard 48k?
Plus mark up… don’t think I’ll get it if it’s like 5k more than the msrp
I would get the base car, the open differential doesn't bother me. I'm a long commute open highway driver.
Looks like Nissan goin back in time.
Down for that base model with a manual and customize the rest save money and drift it anywhere and anyway
How much to get it up to spec? Im not a car person
@@kainemarsh9001 depends on ur budget remember a new car for after market parts isnt cheap even when going cheap i say atleast suspension and rims it should come with a lsd from factory and would put a twin disc clutch or stage 3 from a good company maybe a hydro e brake and call it a day
I hope you meant to say that the duck tail was meant to produce "down force" NOT "lift"?
I said “REDUCE” lift
That definitely makes more sense.... 😂😂👍
Shame to have to pay so much more but LSD is a must and the PERFORMANCE model will help keep the future value up better than sports model for those who want to resell 👍🏼 I’m still in for the performance, BLUE EXTERIOR BLUE INTERIOR AND I think I’ll put some after market rims on to keep the original perfect incase I decide to sell one .
Can I get an in-between trim? All the performance parts. Don’t need heated mirrors?
No in between trim at this stage. Certain countries will see altering trim levels however.
Cant wait to see it in real life. Am between this and the supra.
Now that we know it's a 10k difference. If it was a track only car, I would get the cheap one since you're probably gonna swap brakes, suspension, and tires anyways, then getting an LSD is way cheaper than the price difference. But the interior differences make it a hard decision to skip for a daily driver, those comforts are a nice to have for everyday use.
Honestly at that small of a price difference, I’d be surprised if any enthusiast went with the base model. It’s a great value add for 5k
unless i guess. if they plan on going aftermarket everything then in that case get a base.
@@kenhoward3512 I would agree, I was upset to find out my 2014 Cayman S (sticker price of 72k) also came with an open dif. So when comparing that, to 45k , the performance pack seems like a bargain.
"It's a great value add for $5k" - Are you a Nissan salesman? Advertising an unrealistically-low base price (quietly concealing the missing LSD) just to get people into the dealership so they can be "up-sold" is not corporate behavior that I respect. If others want to bend over...
@@kenhoward3512 it isn’t just an LSD though, so with all the other parts like new rims and upgraded brakes (presumably) and larger center dash display, it is a good value, if you did those mods independently it would far exceed 5k
I highly doubt it will only be a 5k difference, but time will tell.
What a beauty. But I’m waiting for the Nismo version of the Z.
That diff getting welded bby
how else do u expect nissan to beat the competition & offer a 400hp car for $40k base? you're going to lose features if you're opting for the cheaper one.
Also their interiors are comparable. They’re all cheap.
@@49rs1fan comments kinda biased. Chrysler & chevy's & i think fords mustang too are on chassis as old as the 370z or older. just with "a new skin" & some refinements. thats why they're also in the same price bracket. they also weigh alot more & have more seats. lol
@@renownedfear187 that’s my point. The Z should cost as much as those. They’re all under 40k .
@@49rs1fan z is also imported. plays a part in cost.
I'll probably put in an aftermarket lsd, but I've been matching my own revs in cars and on bikes for almost 40 years, I like it.
performance package will push around 50k my guess is it will be 8 grand more
Man i remember when I bought my 2013 grand sport back in 2014 with only 7K miles and for $30K OTD. I miss that car but I'm aiming to get this new Z next yr.
I cant believe they cant sell this throughout Europe!!!!
Dude you can still get the performance trim in the manual.
Sport model.. Going to pig it out with aftermarket go fast bits anyway
Toyota doesn't have much wiggle room to drop prices unless they want to sell at a loss.
just weld the open diff and go have fun
Considering all this I'm going to wait for the nismo version. Might as well get all the upgrades and more power with the nismo.
For the rear diff, would it make more financial sense to buy the base model and have an aftermarket one added in?
Probably not tbh
Depends on the quality of the Nissan LSD. Will it be a clutch based LSD that can overheat and wear over time? In that case, maybe a Sport with torsen/gear style LSD would be an upgrade. The performance version actually comes with a bunch of things I don't want. So if the price difference is high over the sport version, the higher cost will be a touch sell for me.
Is it possible to upgrade the diff afterwards?
@@user-fo2el6jm7n absolutely! if you have the money, it can be done!
@@GodzUnit01 As long as you dont exceed the difference you couldve paid up front im keen

Wish they had a base model that was normally aspirated like the old Z31 & Z32 days. 400 hp Twin turbo top dog, 340 hp NA base model. 🤔
@@KS-ro6in That would be AWESOME!
Sport model is ideal for tuners, esp in the used market. Those extra parts are just things we change out anyway.
With all those options, the Performance would definitely be worth it but I’m curious on the price tag difference. The Nismo is supposedly on its way as well
The nismo one for sure going to be atleast 70k. Crazy how car prices have gone up but wages remain almost the same. 🤷🏻♂️
@@juanmaldonado2096 agreee
Owner of a 300zx TT here. They should not sell a sports car without a LSD! And Nissan has been weak in the braking department for a long time. I'm afraid the sport model will suffer as a result. I think there is room for two trim options, but the lower (Sport) needs a little more of the sports car basics and the upper (Performance) should be available without all of the tech/creature comfort features. Put the latter in an "Executive Package" so someone with real driving ambitions is not shut our from the good stuff due to cost of the Performance!
I would get the sport with the open diff use the 10k on other stuff like a 370z nismo diff and yes it fits
How do you know it fits
Many are comparing this as a lesser value to what a buying a cheaper new Mustang can offer. I think the Mustang is still a heavier car and uses larger rims. Yet as it is the safety features the fed mandates on crash tests and impact zones is going to make every sports cars heavier no matter what.
Look at the Dodge Challenger, a huge sports car at 3,858 - 4,428 pounds.
You are comparing this to a focking MUSTANG ... g t f o
What about the performance versus the Proto? supposed to be 240 of those, how does that model differ from the other two?
The proto is only the reveal version..
Only difference is a couple interior options and some exterior, no performance differences.
@@Coyote350 gotcha!
The performance is by far a better deal. Lsd is vital
It’s just a joke. But there’s so much benefit to getting the next model up. LSD, tires etc is worth it alone.
Always go with top trim levels
i think the blue interior is a little over kill but ... Its better than yellow
I’d be curious if the performance would offer power tilt and telescoping for the steering. Anyone know if this was offered on the 370Z?
No, just tilt. I have a feeling the new Z will only have a Tilt as well.
If it's now around 50k I would definitely go to the mustang.
tbh im fine with the base model, i have wheels waiting to be put on it, and i can swap the diff later on down the line
My guess is Performance trim around 47k and Nismo later on over the 50k mark
Performance I think all the upgrades will be worth it

I wish they’d sell it in the uk, so just be happy you can actually buy one without importing it 🥲
@@Coyote350 simplification of the process. Maybe they could add a Clubman version where everything is base for weight savings with the brakes and LSD.
