Every time I see this car, I like the way it looks better and better. They absolutely *nailed* the styling on this thing. It has cues from all the old Zs, but looks more like the original than the newer generations. Modern, yet retro. Just a great-looking car. I hope this pushes Nissan back to its quality days of the '70s, '80s, and early '90s.

Jay brings the memories flooding back as I worked as a tech at the Datsun dealer, became an ASE Master first try. Owned the 1976 280Z Metallic Brown, put the factory black aluminum shade on the rear window. The 76 had more HP than the 77 as it was being de-tuned. Years later, found an bought my 69 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Full box frame, glass on gages, power bulge, live hood scoop, disc on front and 4 spd with Bosch type syncro's that squeeze from the side, not the cone on cone Borg-Warner type.
All of the styling cues from the 1600 Roadster made it into & onto the 240Z, 260Z, 280Z and somewhat into the ZX. Then the 20th anniversary model.
As a motorcycle guy, I ending being the guy to fix / rebuild the carbs and synchronize each together, set the A/F, then idle came last. Still have the 1600 Roadster complete restored and convertible top never installed, in the box.
    DK, ASE master since 78

I had 3 brand new vehicles from Nissan and they all had to be traded in somewhere else due to poor quality and issues.

What an awesome vehicle, seeing the video brought back a flood of memories, back in January 1970 I bought a Red 240Z Datsun that had for 5 years. The designers did a wonderful job of keeping the core image of the original. I tricked my 240 up with dual 3 into 2 exhaust system, I ordered a racing 5 speed from Japan, it took 6 months to ship it from Japan. When I ordered it I payed $395 to the dealer, by the time I recieved it the price was over $700, but thankfully for me the dealer honored the original price. I would rev it up to the 7K redline often and it never missed a beat. It handled the BC mountain roads like a true racer, it definitely was a blast to drive, I used it to tow my 19’ flat bottom drag boat from Vancouver BC 3000 miles to Toronto and back, it ran flawlessly and never gave me any issues. It truly was a classic sports car and the new one should have no problem following in its footsteps.

A point about "cooling the turbo" - after a hard run, the turbo turns upwards of 80,000 rpm's, if you shut the engine off right after that run, the turbo has no oil to the bushings and can seize up or wear out sooner than you might like. It's best to give it chance to wind down before you kill the engine.

I am grateful that someone like Jay has such a passion for autos. He clearly has a wide taste for them and finds different things he likes about so many different cars. I am in absolute awe every time I see even a slice of his collection. I doubt I would ever build a collection nearly as impressive even with a limitless budget...and my passion could hardly justify it...but I can think of about a dozen cars I would sacrifice a great deal to acquire. You can't take any of it with you at the end, so I would probably spend a lot of time showing them off to kids whos dreams match my own...but Jay has found a way to inspire everyone from a 4 year old who is just learning to dream about their future all the way up to the 90 year old who still holds on to a dream of owning and driving a specific car. My hat is off to you Jay, you really are a spectacular comedian, interviewer, host and personality and I am so grateful to have been able to share some decades of life with you in these amazing times. With current over-regulation in safety, you'll never get a much lighter car. This car is a pig weight wise 100% because of Congress.

@@ekscalybur Google tells me the current Miata is ~2400# with sub-200 hp. I assume the Z has a version of the VQ engine which they put in everything, but not a lightweight. I'd prefer a quarter less HP with 1/3 less weight but then I haven't driven this new Z either.

@@arthurfoyt6727 $50K is a lot of money? A truck or SUV are easily $60k+ nowadays. Even Civic or Corolla are almost $26K.

I agree with Jay that the original design usually has the most soul and in this case it rings true for me. The new Z car kept enough of its roots to please me though, I would buy one if I was in the market, it is a real drivers car. $58,498 for the Performance 6MT is a bargain for what you are getting.

One of the most beautiful cars to come out of Japan recently. Let’s hope they make a Nismo version. (:

Plastic frosted electronic junk this "new" stuff is.
Eventually the wiring harness connectors crumble and youll pay hell replacing the harness if you can even find it at all.
I'll never have another z again, its not worth it

Like the 240-280 Z, and the redesigned 300ZX, this generation Z will become a classic. The 350 and 370 not so much. But this Z car is beautiful and tastefully done. I remember back in 1990 when the 300ZX commercial aired - A clean sheet of paper. A car for 1 driver in a thousand. A car destined to leave it's mark. My father, who has since passed away many years ago, commented on how he really wanted that car. That was a very stirring commercial, unlike commercials today. But with a mortgage and raising a family, he spent the money on us instead of himself. But if you're thinking about getting an iconic, manual transmission, 2-seater sports car, I believe this is probably one of the best choices. The Miata is good too, and has it's heritage, but the Z car is, well a Z, what else can you say. Don't wait too long to buy one. Life is too short to wait.

I am a Z Man in my heart and was lucky to have a 1973 240Z..I remember buying it in the early 90’s in Seattle..They were the norm at that time in the City..I seen it in the pages of Autotrader..When I met the owner it was under a car cover in the garage..When we pulled it off there was the most beautiful pumpkin orange sports car I could afford..The new Z is mind blowing ..I truly see it as a true representation of the 70’s models..Nissan fantastic job..Great Video Jay..Your sidekick was a great addition to this video and both of your conversation was so engaging..

It’s going to be hard to top the visual appeal of the 370z. They did such a great job with the sporty muscle look of the 370. The 400 looks great also. Looks like they took all previous Zs and took a little from each model to design this car.
