@@XanderHarris1023 Also, in this case, depending on Homer would just make it confusing that Athena insists they should go back to kill Polyphemus, given that in Homer's version of events, that would obviously be *laughable* advice. (Personally, I think it's terrible advice here, too, for all the exact same reasons ItsViideo cited...but the author didn't *mean* for it to be. It's just an issue I have with the writing here.)
Oh and Polyphemus isn’t protecting them, when Odysseus(think I spelled it wrong) introduces himself he introduces himself as nobody, and Polyphemus thinks it’s his name. Hence why Athena thought he was stupid for going back and introducing himself.
Fun fact: There is a myth of Athena where she does experience the pain of grief and sorrow. After Athena popped out of Zeus's head, although she was a full grown woman physically, mentally she was still a child. So, Zeus sent Athena to live with King Trition where Athena became really good friends with a water nymph named Pallas. Athena wanted to get the attention of her father, so she and Pallas sent up a sparring match. There are a few different verisons as to what happened next, one say that Athena was losing, and Zeus didn't want her to lose, so he used a shield to reflect the sun in Pallas' eyes, another version said that Athena got this sudden fire inside of her, and got in to a moment of fury. Either way, she accidentally kills Pallas. Athena was not allowed at the funeral either. She was so heartbroken and utterly devestated by what she had done that she took the water nymph's name and became Pallas Athena. Which is how most Greeks had called her.
Probably uncommonly given Athena is one of the three sacred virgins along with Hestia and Artemis… It’s still upsetting if they were just tight as friends.
The reason why Athena tells him off and lets him go as a mentee is basically he had forsaken Athena's teachings of being wise when it comes to combat and facing your enemies. This is shown in the past scenes: 1. Polites' teachings of open arms is blatantly telling Odysseus to abandon caution and suspicion on everyone he meets, which is basically naivety and blind trust, which is not a good thing to have when you are a leader of an entire fleet drifting across the Sea of Monsters, and as a person living in ancient Greece where war is almost a very prominent thing. This goes against all of Athena's teachings of being wise in and out of the battlefield. 2. Getting rid of Polyphemus entirely was a mistake, since Odysseus basically doxxed himself and his kingdom. He gave Polyphemus his name instead of sticking to his name being "Nobody". 3. Getting his emotions entangled during the heat of battle, which doesn't happen because Athena has taught him to keep a level head during combat.
I know you don't have much time but it would probably help to rewatch the previous video before recording to refresh your memory. The cyclops fell asleep in the last one because of the lotus in the wine. And the wine they got from the island too. You can see the little lotus eaters bringing it to Odysseus. Also in the last one, the cyclops asks for Odysseus' name but Odysseus calls himself Nobody. So the cyclops in this one said 'it was Nobody that killed me'
Yyyeeeeaaaaah.... Odysseus introduced himself as Nobody to the cyclops innitially. That's why that part played out like that. To be fair, the man doxed himself in the end and that's why Athena was so mad at him. If you don't know much about Greek mythology it's fair that you didn't know what the smile was about. Let's just say the cyclops has a powerful... family member.
Something I hadn't noticed until another commenter pointed out is that the part of "you're not looking for a mentor, I'm not looking for a friend, I mistook you for a general what a waste of effort spent" calls back to Warrior of the Mind: "If you're looking a mentor, I'll make sure your time's well-spent." In the 'Polyphemus' animatic you watched, it does show Oddyseus putting Lotus juice/seeds in the wine he gives to Polyphemus, and afterwards when he asks him for his name, he responds with Nobody, which is why he told the other cyclopses that "Nobody hurt him"; this is also why he was smiling at the end of 'Remember Them', because Oddyseus pretty much doxxed himself entirely. Polyphemus also fell asleep at the end of 'Survive', which is why the final line seemed to tatter off in the end
6:16 Polythemus didn't cover for Odysseus, when Polythemus first asked for Odysseus's name he said his name was "Nobody" 14:19 there is your answer to "I'm Just a Man" if whether or not Odysseus killed the child. (look in Polites' arms)
In the Polyphemus animatic you watched, there is a very subtle animation of Odysseus slipping the lotus in the wine. It's a quick little thing, but it makes me happy. Odysseus, when asked for his name in Polyphemus, told the Cyclops his name was Nobody.
When the cyclops asked what Odysseus’s name was he said it was Nobody because putting your name out there can be pretty dangerous in that world but then in Remember Them Odysseus went and doxxed himself so that’s why the Cyclops is smiling. Also the cyclops passed out because Odysseus put lotus in the wine he drank. There are loads of great animatics for the Ocean Saga but I’ll just say my recommendations. Ximena Natzel for Storm, Jen for Luck Runs Out, Gigi for Keep Your Friends Close, and Gigi for Ruthlessness. Glad you’re enjoying the musical!!
I'd also suggest AnniFlamma's animatic for Ruthlessness, whether for the initial reaction or just to watch on your own. It has very fitting visuals and keeps the tone near the end better imo.
The first song in this saga had Odysseus pretend his name was "Nobody", which is why the other cyclops went away. Ody essentially made it look like Polyphemus was gaslighting himself. His plan to remain anonymous would've worked if Athena appeared and told him to kill the cyclops. He was already grieving and angry over the whole situation and she escalated it, making him reveal his true name to try and prove her wrong. But that fit of emotion is why Athena scolds and abandons him in My Goodbye. Also, you're half right on the ghosts. Polites is holding the infant that Ody dropped from the wall. The other two that have faces aren't dead, but are still important factors in who Odysseus is as a person, since they're his wife and son. The faceless ghosts are likely the some of the other soldiers that died to Polyphemus, since in the previous song, Survive, it was revealed that Polites got hit twice with the club, while the other strikes killed one man each.
You know, don't get me wrong, Odysseus was incredibly stupid for going back basically dox-ing himself. But Athena really could have handled it better. First of all, you dont tell someone to put their emotions aside and then immediately bring up his recently murdered friends. Thats not how you keep a soldier in line. I feel like if she had just waited a few days before chewing him out, he might have been a lot more receptive.
Sure, I agree but Athena probably thought he will listen and go back to do as she advised, since he did follow the gods before… remember the infant? That was even more difficult! As for her reaction… I can’t help but see her as an almost parental figure to him at that point. She had been with him most of his live from a young brilliant boy to feared and fears victorious general. And so she was frustrated, furious and kind of helpless to stop him since she couldn’t kill the cyclops for him… In all honesty she did her best to protect him the best she knew how “Put your emotions aside”? That’s kind of what she herself seems to do… Did in fact, right after he rejected her and her teachings… Most likely to protect her own heart from heartbreak. Before making ethical judgment it is good to remember the circumstances… you will see. It is not a nice world Odyssey is facing. So be kind, sure, but also be smart and decisive if you want to be a warrior in the first place. Or you will not live to see another day to be kind to those you actually want to be kind to… That is kind of what Athena wanted to say, but her fear for him and her pride got in the way… Greek gods are so very human…
By doing that he made an enemy of Poseidon. So if Athena kept up her patronage she'd be making Poseidon her enemy too and if you're familiar with Greek Mythology the two already have bad blood.
@@Evnyofdeath Poseidon only knew it was Odysseus who did it because Polyphemus tattle tailed to his dad. If he followed her advices he both woulda kept Poseidon off his back, while also keeping the support of Athena.

I cried when I saw this.
Although Odysseus *did*, in fact, screw up by doxxing himself to the very Cyclops he was trying to teach a lesson... I also don't think he was wrong. Athena was trying to make a point about Odysseus being a "Warrior of the Mind", but after the fight was over there was no point in killing him; better to run before other monsters showed up.

The funny thing is Athena was right lol. Odysseus picks and chooses who he gives mercy to. The child? nah, but the cyclops? sure, reveals his name and brags about it so the cyclops tattles to his dad, poseidon. In turn, odysseus loses more people because of his arrogance.
I know time is short but I would love if you would react to “Don’t cry for your daughters, eve” by Lydia the Bard. It’s an amazing song and an incredible animatic and it made me cry. Just if you are able 😊
I'm honestly so tired of people giving Odysseus the pass and being so critical of Athena. Like she made herself clear from the start she is not looking for a friend she is looking for a student. Someone who can embrace her view and make a warrior molded by her tutelage. Odysseus owes a lot of his success because of her guidance. Odysseus blames others instead of himself and cast out his greatest ally. I get why people get so upset but I honestly can't wait when you see you are wrong that Odysseus ridding himself of Athena was a good idea.
Also those were not ghosts those were just visages she summoned to get her point across ALSO ALSO when you get to luck runs out take the visuals a little less serious as the animator is for luck runs out just ships eurylochus and odysseus so it seems like they are more of a relationship but its not That being said its the only epic the musical luck runs out animatic which still has good artwork
There was actually one I found a few days ago that portrays the song perfectly. The crew is visible, there's no implied relationship stuff. I'll check my history because idr who did it. Edit: It was by Jen, it's really good and I suggest checking it out.

@@supattreewatanawong5025 I totally agree that Athena's advice was necessary! But due to the fact that she's unable to feel empathy, she communicated it in a very harsh way. Odysseus was likely still in shock and feeling A LOT because one of his childhood best friends, along with ~30 of his men were brutally murdered by a giant cyclops. Athena being so cruel in her honesty probably wasn't the best move in that situation, of course it'd cause Odysseus to act out. You can't expect a human to make calm, rational decisions after a traumatic event like that, especially not if you talk to them in such a harsh manner; it'd just make them more prickly. It's important to be reassuring and supportive, but unfortunately that is something Athena is unable to do. It's really just bad timing, because they HAD been close for 15 or so years before this. Omg sorry I wrote so much 😭 TL;DR After a traumatic event Odysseus wasn't in the right mindset to make rational decisions and the way Athena talked to him only worsened that and made him act out. "So many of his friends" 😅. He lost seven men out of 600 in this cave. So yes, he is mourning right now but he really screwed up with giving his name to the cyclops. You can't puti it to the amount of his men that died. (Not yet)
Seven men he has been with constantly for at least a decade. Many people couldn't name 7 people they had been with constantly for a decade never mind imagine watching them die right in front of them. We even learn later that this is literally the first time he has lost basically anyone. He never lost a soldier, his parents were both fine, the literal first time he ever has to experience loss is itself an extremely traumatic event, following another extremely traumatic event, even before the loss hits afterwards. If your plan is badger someone into doing something, stabbing them in the largest, freshest, open wound available is not an effective method, it is just about always going to a violent relationship ending event. Sure a terrible decision, but literally not even on the top 10 of bad decisions people make in similar situations. You are fortunate to be able to think at all within a day of that, suggesting long term planning or forsight is a reasonable expectation of someone there is the least reasonable thing I've heard today.
The funny thing is Athena was right lol. Odysseus picks and chooses who he gives mercy to. The child? nah, but the cyclops? sure, reveals his name and brags about it so the cyclops tattles to his dad, poseidon. In turn, odysseus loses more people because of his arrogance.
It kinda hurts how correct Athena is
Noice (sorry I missed doing these)
I know time is short but I would love if you would react to “Don’t cry for your daughters, eve” by Lydia the Bard.
Also those were not ghosts those were just visages she summoned to get her point across
ALSO ALSO when you get to luck runs out take the visuals a little less serious as the animator is for luck runs out just ships eurylochus and odysseus so it seems like they are more of a relationship but its not
That being said its the only epic the musical luck runs out animatic which still has good artwork
There was actually one I found a few days ago that portrays the song perfectly. The crew is visible, there's no implied relationship stuff. I'll check my history because idr who did it.
Edit: It was by Jen, it's really good and I suggest checking it out.
@@WittySomething thank you ima check it out
Just a heads up
Don’t use the playlist for Storm
That’s not the full version of the song
Same with like 90% of Circe Saga and most of Underworld Saga is missing or incomplete in the playlist
Oh if only Athena could feel empathy. I feel like that would solve many, many problems.
hey don't pin mistake that happen from Odysseus emotion on Athena he do that because he want Polyphemus to Remember Them for what Polyphemus done to them on his own not because Athena
@@supattreewatanawong5025 Oh Odysseus is certainly also at fault, don't worry I'm not saying that. They're both partially at fault, both falling to an extreme.
@@serenac.7192 I don't see how Athena at any fault all she do is tell Odysseus that Cyclop still a threat but then Odysseus start trow tantrum and refuse to listen all Athena do is give Odysseus advice and good/necessary one at that
@@supattreewatanawong5025 I totally agree that Athena's advice was necessary!
Omg sorry I wrote so much 😭
TL;DR After a traumatic event Odysseus wasn't in the right mindset to make rational decisions and the way Athena talked to him only worsened that and made him act out.
Though you're totally free to have your own opinion and disagree with me! This is just how I see it :)
@@serenac.7192 Athena warn him in the heat of moment there no time for any empathy there. Odysseus don't even given her a time to explain why it necessary but outright refuse immediately then go on tell Cyclop his name in Instant. It no matter at all that Athena have empathy or not if Odysseus notgiven her any time to show it. and you can't count how Athena act in My Goodbye that happen after Odysseus maked mistake already of course there no empathy in this moment she angry and disappoint and decided to not help him anymore.
"So many of his friends" 😅. He lost seven men out of 600 in this cave. So yes, he is mourning right now but he really screwed up with giving his name to the cyclops. You can't puti it to the amount of his men that died.
(Not yet)
Also, I'm not saying that Athena is totally right but she can't be entirely criticized.
And I have scrolled youtube comments today.
hey dude. what’s poli holding behind athena? 😈
He smiled because Odysseus revealed his own name and he told Posidon
Athena was right 🤷🏻♀️. and why are you happy that athena left him? that’s not a good thing 😂. having a god’s help is very useful.
Yeah, you're right. idk what I was thinking 😅
@@ItsVideoYTplus just pissing off a god in general is bad luck.
Now I have a bad feeling this is going to come back later

Odysseus leaving the Cyclopes alive affects the rest of the story. I won’t tell you in which way, but every single thing that happened in the rest of the story can be tied back to that.
Athena is true he should have kill that cysclop for a reason
Gods are pretty heartless. They’re immortal and don’t value human life. That’s how it be.
That's not true do.
