A lot of people believe the reason Poseidon still attacked Odysseus' crew is because he didn't give a proper apology. But I hold the firm belief that it is because Poseidon just sang an ENTIRE song about how you don't get anything from being kind and sparing your enemies. Then he goes and says, "If you apologize and are kind, I'll let you and your men go." But he means it as a test to see if Odysseus understood the whole message of his song. So when Odysseus accepts this option, believing Poseidon may be kind and admitting that they didn't want to hurt Polyphemus, he's disregarding everything Poseidon just said. And that is the meaning behind the line, "The line between naivety and hopefulness is almost invisible." Because Odysseus' HOPEFULNESS that Poseidon will let him go if he apologizes is NAIVE and stupid, because being RUTHLESS is the only way to benefit yourself in the long run, not kindness. And also, this shows Odysseus to have just blatantly ignored a god's advice, which also pissed off Poseidon.
I mean, I agree that he wouldn't have followed through on that, but I also think Poseidon is pretty familiar with his personality and knew he wouldn't directly apologize. When Posiedan says "I am your darkest moment", he is quoting Odyseuss in Remember them. Odyseuss said it to the cyclops in the end of the song. Aalso the second in command is Euryloches who, in the original texts, is technically the brother in law to Odyseuss. I'm so glad you're doing these animatic reactions. The story and bosses gets cooler as we go!
Oh god that luck runs out animatic No offense to the creator the animatic looks good but it was made from before the songs release officially and is just snippets of the actual song
3:34 The thing about an 'island in the sky' was actually a misinterpretation Jorge made about something in the original Oddysey; it was a 'floating island' which just meant that it was an island that wasn't connected to, or held up by any landmasses, but he thought that meant it was actually flying, and it was too late to fix it when people corrected him, lol I would also recommend checking out more recent animatics for 'Luck Runs Out' because the one you watched was based on the demos Jorge released for the song 12:24 I'm pretty sure a lot of these animatics have captions, so you can turn those on for future sagas 13:38 Polites was Oddyseus' friend who was killed by the Cyclops. He was the one who was telling him to "greet the world with open arms" if you remember 15:22 The winions *did* convince them it was treasure 23:07 So yeah, Athena maybe sorta had a point, lol. Also, going forward you should probably check whether the animatics have captions so you don't miss any of the lyrics
The second one didn’t use the official audio. I’d recommend listening to the official song. Also, you looked up the four wind gods and was confused by Aeolus. In Greek mythology, there is one main wind god, and then gods for each direction of the wind.
THE SECOND ANIMATIC USED A DEMO AUDIO OF LUCK RUNS OUT SO PLEASE REACT TO ANOTHER ANIMATIC WITH THE OFFICIALLY FINISHED AUDIO/OR LISTEN TO THE SONG ITSELF ✨️
Ruthlessness is one of my favorite songs in the entire musical, it's so catchy! The sassy "but no~" gets me every time. The animatic you watched is probably my favorite for this song, though the other one people have recommended is great too.
Always the thing that people miss the first time. Ody offers excuses and justifications, but never apologies. Not to Polyphemus for effectively killing his beloved pet after trespassing into his home, and not to Poseidon for blinding his son and then not even giving him an honorable death, thereby condemning him to a miserable life. Ody seems to not realize that he should actually say "I'm sorry" for once.
@@arcticlimbo poseidon you mean, he wanted to kill him but he had to abide by the fates deeming that odysseus had to return to ithaca one way or another
@@Axindoor yesssir I meant Poseidon thank you. And yea I agree. I'm saying he probably expected Odysseus to make excuses. So asking him to apologize was a trap. Unless he was being genuine and thought Odysseus would just apologize. But I really don't think he would and I think Poseidon already knew that.
So, the math works out to Poseidon taking out 550 sailors across those destroyed ships during Ruthlessness. There have now been a total of 557 deaths on Odysseus's watch. Later we will encounter more loss in different ways, but that's over the course of the next couple sagas. For now, it's just Ody and 43 of his closest bros left on one little ship, out of everyone who left Ithaca for war ten years prior, and then sailed home from Troy at war's end, all 600 still alive at that time. This has been a very bad voyage so far. Edited to add: I just remembered this. Bit sleepy today honestly. But, Eurylochus and Odysseus are brothers in law, like, in the actual original Odyssey story. That's a thing. So when they refer to each other as brothers, it's because they are, legally and also in emotional bond, having known each other and been friends for ages.
4:59 there’s a funny thing about the island in the sky bit Jorge addressed on his social medias. When he was reading the odyssey he came across the term ‘floating island’ around the time Aeolus was going to come in, and he interpreted it as an island floating in the air rather than the actual phenomenon of an “island” floating around on the ocean randomly because it has no anchor to the sea floor.
What makes the bag opening even worse is they were so close to home if they had just waited they would have been home but instead they got impatient and now they got the soldiers who didn’t open the bag killed And Odysseus mom saw them get blown away so for all she knows her son is dead now she’s heartbroken
Hopefully all the corrections and suggestions aren't too demoralizing! I love all the analysis and outward thinking you do as opposed to sitting silently to "get nothing wrong"
Quick things: 1. Part of the issue with "Two songs per video" was that it took long between reactions. Most people do want to see you get through it rather quickly, because they want to see your reactions to the whole thing. Doing a full saga at a time does work though. 2. "Shoot for the sky" is almost definitely a reference done to Hamilton, which was caught by the animator, who then included the pose. 3. If you plan to relisten to the songs between videos, I would suggest watching (though not necessarily recording a reaction) to alternative animatics. I understand it's hard to know which animatics are the right ones on a first watch, but on a rewatch you can get a lot out of watching the alternative animatics, seeing as different animatic makers focus on different things. 4. The Sixth Saga has a chance to release before you would get to it, dependant on your upload schedule (July 4th). When you get to your reactions of the Fifth Saga, I would recommend you ask your audience what they want to see from your reactions to the saga, because it will not have animatics out right away.
Yay, you made it to my favorite song (Ruthlessness)! Been really looking forward to that. 😁 I definitely agree with other comments: check out Anniflamma's version of Ruthlessness. It's absolutely fantastic! ETA: There are things that happen between the scenes, which help connect the songs 💖
Poseidon is the most protective of his children but the gods who have monster children are use to their kids being slain by a hero but Odysseus sparing Polyphemus after blinding him (which is Greek it’s worse to blind someone they kill them especially with the time period they were in where medical help wasn’t as advanced) so to Poseidon he felt like Odysseus was saying that Polyphemus wasn’t even worth the kill which made Poseidon feel like he was insulting him as well Plus Odysseus can kill a helpless human baby but not a cyclops who was trying to kill them?
The SpongeBob movie has a couple references from the Odyssey, including the bag of winds! There also the “cyclops”, meeting all those monsters on their journey and and having ‘magical’ help from Princess Mindy 😊

Funnily enough Eurylocus is Odysseus’s brother-in-law. He is married to Odysseus’s sister. (The guy singing in “keep your friends close.) ALSO!!!! Before listening to the next saga go listen to the Habenera from the Opera “Carmen”. (Emphasis on the music but the theme of the song is important too.)
Hey! Thank you for your reactions, they’re really good 🐸 For Luck Runs Out, you didn’t hear the whole song, that animatic was from before the song got released, I recommend you watching other animatic with the full song!
I'd really suggest checking out Crashite's version of Luck Runs Out. The version of the song in this animatic isn't the actual released song, but more like an early version of it. I also suggest looking into AnniFlamma's animatic for Ruthlessness. It's my favorite for that song. Also for the Winions (the little clown guys with Aeolus) they say "never really know who you can trust" the first time, then "sometimes killing is a must" the second. And for the bit about Polites, they mean Odysseus has been badly affected by his death. Also another thing to add, even if Odysseus *had* actually apologized for what happened to Polyphemus, Posiedon's line of "the line between naivety and hopefulness is all but invisible" means he wasn't going to spare Odysseus and his men either way. It would have gone against his whole message about not showing mercy. Odysseus was being naive in thinking Posiedon would let them go after that. And I don't think you noticed Posiedon throwing what Odysseus said to Polyphemus back in his face: "I am your darkest moment", and the "Remember me" was also what Odysseus told Polyphemus.
In the original telling of the Odyssey, it was Athena who destroyed the ships and sent the storm. The Greeks had desecrated her temple when they finally got into Troy. She kept Odysseus and his crew alive because he's her champion but he hadn't sacked her temple. Poseidon only wanted to kill him and him alone. In this, there's the idea he's singing about, which is probably the reason, but (in my headcannon) Poseidon is also petty. The Greeks won against the Trojans, the people Poseidon was backing in the fight, so this was him basically taking that out on them.
My recommendation for the next saga is: Puppeteer by gigi, Wouldn't You Like by Ximena Natzel, and Done For and There Are Other Ways by AnniFlamma If you want to seek out another animatic for Luck Runs Out that has the official soundtrack, I'd recommend Jen or Crashite
Long rant incoming: Odysseus not apologizing is a common theme in the cyclops and ocean saga. Instead of just apologizing to the Polyphemus and being heartfelt, he just gave excuses for his actions. “We didn’t mean to steal” ok but you did it anyway. Just because you didn’t MEAN to doesn’t mean you didn’t do it. Instead of seeing the emotions behind why the cyclops may be hurting, he just immediately goes to damage control. It’s important to note that the cyclops is basically a runt. The other cyclops in the cave don’t care about him, that’s why when he said Nobody hurt him they didn’t even try to check up on him. They just told him to shut up even tho he was in clear pain. His sheep is the only creatures that he had, they were friends to him not just animals. And the person who gifted him those sheep? His father, Poseidon. So from Poseidon’s point of view? His son’s house was invaded, his sheep (which he knows meant a lot to Polyphemus and a personal gift) killed by strangers, no apology instead a consolation gift, and then on top of that he was blinded. And the person who blinded (idiotically) told him his name and address. And once again, he doesn’t do an actual apology. Now granted, I don’t believe it would have changed anything. Like you pointed out, his whole song was about being ruthless. The likelihood of him showing mercy was not high. I think Poseidon wanted to test to see if he learnt the lesson Poseidon was trying to teach him. But even during said test he didn’t even fail right 🤷 Anyway, that’s my long rant over ❤
Fun fact: the wind bag in the SpongeBob movie is a nod to the Odyssey (the legend Epic is based on). That’s also why the SpongeBob movie presents the diver as a cyclops.
What makes this worse is they were so close to home before their patients runned out and they opened the bag sending them miles away Odysseus’ mom saw this and thought her son had been killed and tried to meet him in the underworld by committing self deletion

I'm so glad you're doing these animatic reactions. The story and bosses gets cooler as we go!
I SCREAMED WHEN HE MADE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CYCLOPS AND THE INFANT‼‼
Goated connection honestly
Oh god that luck runs out animatic
No offense to the creator the animatic looks good but it was made from before the songs release officially and is just snippets of the actual song
I would personally recommend animation either from Jen or Crashite. Both of them were released recently and represent the song rather accurately
Crashite's is really good! I'm starting to see more animatics from them and I like their style a lot.
3:34 The thing about an 'island in the sky' was actually a misinterpretation Jorge made about something in the original Oddysey; it was a 'floating island' which just meant that it was an island that wasn't connected to, or held up by any landmasses, but he thought that meant it was actually flying, and it was too late to fix it when people corrected him, lol
I would also recommend checking out more recent animatics for 'Luck Runs Out' because the one you watched was based on the demos Jorge released for the song
12:24 I'm pretty sure a lot of these animatics have captions, so you can turn those on for future sagas
13:38 Polites was Oddyseus' friend who was killed by the Cyclops. He was the one who was telling him to "greet the world with open arms" if you remember
15:22 The winions *did* convince them it was treasure
23:07 So yeah, Athena maybe sorta had a point, lol. Also, going forward you should probably check whether the animatics have captions so you don't miss any of the lyrics
what's worse is that when they open the bag, they were in sight of Ithaca, less then a day out from Ithaca almost home
I'm glad you took our advice about doing the whole saga in one video. also most of Gigi's animatics have subtitles so it's OK to turn them on lol
The second one didn’t use the official audio. I’d recommend listening to the official song. Also, you looked up the four wind gods and was confused by Aeolus. In Greek mythology, there is one main wind god, and then gods for each direction of the wind.
Yeah, for Luck Runs Out, I'd recommend either Jen and Crashite's version
13:38 Theyre implying Odysseus has become more closed off and less trustworthy since Polities died fighting Polyphemus
15:55 The "Oh no... oh no..." was an accurate reaction.
I was suprised when i saw u were using the alternative version of "luck runs out" was not expecting that.
In Ruthlessness Odyseus didn't actually apologize he only made excuses.
Me and my family think Poseidon* never expected an apology. Him asking for one was setting Odysseus up FOR his excuses.
But I really don't think he would and I think Poseidon already knew that.
look up the definition of apologize, he did appoligize (which went agasint ruthlessness is mercy) he didn't say sorry which a totaly different thing
Spongbob's Windbag was a reference to Odysseus.
*POSEIDON!*
*POSEIDON!*
*POSEIDON!*
*POSEIDON!*
13:15 Bro sneezed out of existence
What makes the bag opening even worse is they were so close to home if they had just waited they would have been home but instead they got impatient and now they got the soldiers who didn’t open the bag killed
And Odysseus mom saw them get blown away so for all she knows her son is dead now she’s heartbroken
His didn't say sorry, so it's time to swim.
Poseidon killed his men to teach him a lesson but Odysseus didn't apologize at all instead made excuses for hurting Polyphemus
Hopefully all the corrections and suggestions aren't too demoralizing! I love all the analysis and outward thinking you do as opposed to sitting silently to "get nothing wrong"
21:41 600 men - 7 (in the Cyclops fight) = 593
593 men - 43 (left) = 550 killed by Poseidon
550 + 7 = 557 men killed in total 👍
hahahaha, so wonderful to see someone join the epic fandom! looking forward to you experiencing the next 2 sagas!
Quick things:
I absolutely love that Poseidon is just throwing Odysseus around, not even using his trident. Shows how powerful he is even when he doesn't use it.
Aeolus was the highest god of winds. He was called the keeper of winds. And yes, there are a lot of repetitive gods in greek mythology.
Why is Poseidon such an a-hole? Uh, first time here? All the Greek gods are a-holes.
Poseidon is the most protective of his children but the gods who have monster children are use to their kids being slain by a hero but Odysseus sparing Polyphemus after blinding him (which is Greek it’s worse to blind someone they kill them especially with the time period they were in where medical help wasn’t as advanced) so to Poseidon he felt like Odysseus was saying that Polyphemus wasn’t even worth the kill which made Poseidon feel like he was insulting him as well
Plus Odysseus can kill a helpless human baby but not a cyclops who was trying to kill them?
The SpongeBob movie has a couple references from the Odyssey, including the bag of winds! There also the “cyclops”, meeting all those monsters on their journey and and having ‘magical’ help from Princess Mindy 😊
It alright to mess up and if you want to see the other version animatics of ocean saga.
Do definitely check out Luck run out animatic Jen and Ruthlessness animatic Anniflamma (I like her design and depiction of poseidon 🐎 🌊 )
After Odysseus's journey he has went through so much, and learned that ruthlessness is mercy
I’m pretty sure there are wind gods for each of the four winds and then a bigger wind god for just all the winds so, you weren’t wrong.
Funnily enough Eurylocus is Odysseus’s brother-in-law. He is married to Odysseus’s sister. (The guy singing in “keep your friends close.)
ALSO!!!! Before listening to the next saga go listen to the Habenera from the Opera “Carmen”. (Emphasis on the music but the theme of the song is important too.)
Hey! Thank you for your reactions, they’re really good 🐸
For Luck Runs Out, you didn’t hear the whole song, that animatic was from before the song got released, I recommend you watching other animatic with the full song!
My recommendation for the next saga is: Puppeteer by gigi, Wouldn't You Like by Ximena Natzel, and Done For and There Are Other Ways by AnniFlamma
If you want to seek out another animatic for Luck Runs Out that has the official soundtrack, I'd recommend Jen or Crashite
Once again… your foreshadowing skills are spot on! 😅
Odisseu not say sorry. He make excuses, but never say sorry in this song. I always notice that when i listen this music
In his defense his best friend was murdered
@@Ben_SGR I guess, in the defence of the cyclops then, its friend (the sheep) was murdered.
Poseidon wouldn't have spared them either even if he truly apologize.
18:35 that’s the original Greek mythology. You should seen about the other Greek gods. they are terrible some probably worse than Poseidon.
'everything's changed since Polites' meant everything changed since Polites died at the cyclops cave
But even during said test he didn’t even fail right 🤷
Anyway, that’s my long rant over ❤
If Odysseus isn't willing to show mercy to himself or his men, why would Poseidon?
Reactions improved ❤keep up the good work 😊
The clip at the end is the beginning of the Circe Saga! Really good and I highly recommend it!
"43 left under your command" Poiseidon killed around 550 men, except the boat Odysseus was on.
In total, 558 men, who died under his command.
Fun fact: the wind bag in the SpongeBob movie is a nod to the Odyssey (the legend Epic is based on). That’s also why the SpongeBob movie presents the diver as a cyclops.
ahhh the second vid isnt the full version of the song.
Thx for the reaction
What makes this worse is they were so close to home before their patients runned out and they opened the bag sending them miles away
Odysseus’ mom saw this and thought her son had been killed and tried to meet him in the underworld by committing self deletion
Huh, I've never heard this version of luck runs out.
9:05 "Great wind god Aelous"... This audio is nothing. Who's the wind god, let me google that.
The 4 wind gods you mentioned are the gods of the North South East and west winds. Aoelus is the god of the winds and incharge of the 4 other wind gods
I prefer AnniFlamma's animatic of Ruthlessness. Poseidon really looks and feels like the ocean personified!
The island in the sky only looked funny because the animator picked hand held and not ship mounted harpoons
557 died total.
Polythemes killed 7 including Polites
Poseiden killed 550
Poseidon! Poseidon! Poseidon! ... Is that Poseidon?
Poseidon killed 550 men
The cyclops has killed 7 men
557 men (until now) has died under his command anddd his lunch ran out on Ruthlessness and it kinda kinda goes on from their
And until we get to the Underworld saga we have no indication of another person who died, making it 558. iykyk

It was the only thing that came to my mind
The thing about wind gods in greek mythology is that their are the gods of each wind then there is aeolus whos above them
Ody never apologised, only made excuses, hence why they died
Why does the wind bag has Aeolus’s face on it?
He killed 550 men
