    Don't be afraid to stop and rewind, especially when commentating. It is always vexing as a user when the reactor is talking and it feels like their missing important information. Odysseus tells the cyclops his name is "Nobody" which is an important detail and it seemed like you didn't catch it. Criticism aside, you're doing great man. The death of Polites is heartbreaking and was exactly the reaction I was looking for.

    • @feistsorcerer2251
      @feistsorcerer2251 3 месяца назад +30

      Seconding this. At least when I watch a reaction I'm there to get the person's thoughts on stuff, so I didn't mind them taking a second to parse information and take it back to talk about it.
      Another style that can work if going back in the middle would ruin the reactor's experience for themselves is watching through once without in depth commentary while making note of what they want to talk about, and any confusion, then going back through the media and breaking it down.
      Still a very good reaction though, and another one joins the Epic pain train.

    Polyphemus is pronounced /Poh-lee-fee-mus/
    -if you listen to the chant at the beginning of Survive, you’ll actually hear the chants of his name per syllable. “Po! Ly! Phe! Mus!”
    The explanation for that is Jorge took inspiration from boss battles in video games that chant the name of the level’s boss.

    • @TheTuneShifter
      @TheTuneShifter 3 месяца назад +1

      Pronunciation is generally, “Paw-lih-fay-moose,” which is what the chorus sings. Jorge pronounces it “Pah-lih-fee-miss”

      @Lanternman2814 3 месяца назад +21

      I mean, not if you think of it from the pov of the time period and culture. Herds of wild sheep weren't uncommon, and hunting some to feed you and your allies/men while traveling was hardly unheard of. Not to mention, the law of hospitality at the time, which was a BIG deal, would have Polyphemus as the one in the wrong. It was an honest mistake and saying you'll kill the leader last after his men is not a gift nor any way to treat someone who is technically your guest under that law of hospitality. SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE ODYSSEY: Even Poseidon realized it was Polyphemus' fault when he later heard the full story from his son. That's why he gave up on chasing and tormenting Odysseus later in the story.

      @cutecorgiis5230 According to the law of hospitality at the time; Yes. From what I read, the homeowner was expected to feed and house travelers for a few days before even asking more of the guest(s) as long as certain rules were followed. Plus, the fact that it was a random cave and not an easily distinguishable home makes "breaking in" a stretch.

    Just so you know, the creature in the video is the artist’s interpretation of a Cyclops. They took several creative liberties with the design, but they’re typically seen as large monsters with relatively human features besides their one eye on the middle of their faces. That particular Cyclops was in fact named Polyphemus.

    As others have said, please don't be afraid to pause when you have commentary to make. That way you don't risk missing critical lyrics.
    Also make use of replaying parts if you need or want to, like if you think you mishear something or can't make out a particular lyric.
    Also once you get to the Ocean Saga, I suggest watching Gigi's animatic of Keep Your Friends Close, and AnniFlamme's of Ruthlessness. Gigi also has one for Ruthlessness that gets tied directly into from Keep Your Friends Close, but the imagery in AnniFlamme's version just strikes me as more fitting.

    Something worth knowing is last I checked it Epic is going to be a sung through musical, so each song does lead directly into the next and there aren't going to be spoken scenes added into the stage production. So this really did happen this early in the story.
    Yes the sunshine boy is unfortunately gone, and it's much sooner in Epic than when he dies in the Odyssey. Thematically and dramatically it makes sense for Epic, but it still feels like he was taken way way too soon.
    Thank you for continuing to react to this, and I hope you continue having a good (?) time with the rest of it.

I think it's because the gravitas in Wolfy's animatic is felt stronger. Also, Wolfy's Polyphemus looks like how Cyclops were drawn and described, this one just looks like an Eldritch horror and I don't find it intimidating because of it.
