      Well at some point almost everyone realizes that not everyone is treated equally. We are taught as children that if you work hard enough then you can do anything, but at some point we realize that systems are in place that sometimes make that impossible. This story was probably Mario's realization.

    • @jaidaadams7106
      @jaidaadams7106 5 лет назад +34

      esaesa07 Personally for me I knew the situation about race in the world. Even being so young(15) social media clearly taught that to me. Of course with the lessons and stories explained to me from my mom. I knew minorities were targeted. I knew possibly I could be targeted myself. But never did I really realize how easily it could happen to me. I never knew of this case until the outrage on social media and then watching the series. These boys were just hanging out at a park with friends. And now I think of all the times I went out with friends, had fun and was able to go home. But easily that could have been different. Easily someone could frame me and my life would be over. It’s just so crazy to me how that could happen. It makes me mad, confused, even emotions I can’t explain.

      Have you read his reddit ama?
      Trump was obviously an evil person in this case though. Like.. who asks for the death penalty for kids when you don’t know the facts of the case? I kinda feel like he just went along with everyone else, and wanted to be the headline, but who knows. He definitely wasn’t thinking that’s for sure. It’s also not about politics in this situation. Trump was a businessman and a celebrity back then. So it was.. different.
      But the Reddit ama is a really good read from Raymond. This was also back in 2013 FYI

    I really feel for Korey the most because he was charged as an adult. And he was tortured in prison. Only at 16. That’s so heartbreaking and unbelievable that they all went through that. But the system is so racist and screwed up they really don’t care wether you guilty or innocent they want you locked up because of your color of skin. It’s sad but it’s the truth. This story is so amazing and well put together. All the Actors did wonderful. God bless them all 🙏🏽

Staying sad sick and full of hatred only perpetuates what’s already wrong in the world! If these men can go through what they did and get up and continue to do something meaningful with their lives so can you!

    These young men are awesome and they did an amazing job on their roles in the Netflix series. However, the story is so tragic. I cried throughout the show because you first understand it is real, a true story and that it affected the many lives of all involved. The 5 teens who are now men went through so much in prison. To not spoil the show. This is a must see a thousand times. Great job Ava DuVernay!

    Rodriguez is an assistant teacher and looks all of 15?!
    When Asante said “THE EXONERATED 5” I EFFIN FELT THAT!!!
    I love how introspective Ethan Herisse is: “I was so naive. You see what’s going on through social media and think, that could NEVER happen to me.” Same exact sentiment! I started to wisen up after the Gena 6 and Trayvon. I threw respectability politics out the window. Just last month, I accompanied my brother to Target to buy milk. He was about to throw the receipt away and I said “wait no, keep it. That could be your alibi one day”....and we just looked at each other. Think about how keeping something so minute and trivial as a receipt, how that could potentially save your life from being wrongfully accused of a crime.

    I’ve been heated since Episode 1 ever since that cop had hit one of the boys with his helmet...this story is so hard to watch like you either get angry or sad for these boys and right now I’m all in one because it’s so crazy how the system works. Wether you good or bad NEVER make a “deal” with the cops because they’ll still use anything against you in the long run. All their motives are the same.
    And since my boy Chango didn’t get any credit for helping them boys out and he didn’t even know them I have much respect for him. Look him up “Chango YTC”

    Love seeing my black brothers succeed. This story angered me and upset me and I truly thank Ava DuVernay and the whole cast and especially the Exonerated 5 for telling their story because it’s exactly what the world needed to hear and know. There’s so much injustice and violence on the street from more than just cops. There’s violence between communities with people killing their own. We always point our fingers at cops but if we ever want them to stop, we have to stop fighting against each other and unite against the system that wants to oppress us. The film shows this corrupt system and how hard it is for justice to be served, and the only way for that to change is by a united front of people of all color who want the injustice to end. I’m 16 years old and agree with everything those boys were saying in this interview. I want to grow up in a world where I don’t have to be afraid of cops or the system and the same for my future children or husband. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

    i really love how this show/movie showed that how being at the wrong place and at the wrong time could truly ruin your life. my heart goes out to those men who lost their childhood and had all those years wasted, money will never bring that back. i would love to watch this again since i loved everything from the writing to the cinematography to how this phenomenal cast played their roles, but my heart is so heavy that i don’t think i could bring myself to watch this again. it was a hard pill of reality to swallow, especially during episode 4, i couldn’t even imagine being in Korey’s situation and still being so good hearted, i would’ve lost my damn mind. it was even harder to face the fact that this is real life, this happened, and many more cases like this one has happened and is most likely going to continue to happen and that shatters my heart to the core. i truly hope this opens the eyes to many people and i hope that people realize that the color of someone’s skin SHOULD NOT define them. it’s a shame that people of color deal with this everyday, it breaks my heart and i’m truly so sorry that our injustice system has failed so many.
