Watch their interview with Ken Burns and his daughter. It's still heartbreaking to hear they are still struggling emotionally because they were robbed of their childhoods. No amount of money can get that back.
Just finished the series at 4:30 in the morning and it’s just saddening how we express so much love for this country but disappoint us with these broken systems
ummmmm after 400yrs, trillions of dollars of profit, a fully functional & robust class system and a highly developed social hierarchy based on "Racial" color codes, there is absolutely NO way that you can come to the conclusion that anything is BROKEN! Trump is the President of the United States even after doing what he did to these young brothas who were just kids at the time. It has been 400yrs since Angolan Slaves arrived at Ft. Point Comfort, this is a well developed, highly oiled and well maintained system that does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do, ANY other conclusion is only delusion.
That seems to be the primary reason for why she chose to structure the mini series in the way she did instead of just reenacting the story or just interviewing them.
how did Jesse Jackson Al Sharpton lie? and who cares these boys didn't excuse me black men and Hispanic man. don't be a sheep falling for the lies social media likes to say. like Trump loves to always claim when it come to his bs. FAKE NEWS
@Sizzle Wrap When black people commit crimes, they actually go to prison. He kneels because cops aren't held accountable to their crimes. So, when you are pledging to the American flag and you say "and justice for all" he is kneeling because there isn't justice for all. You would think after watching this interview you could comprehend that. Also, in case you haven't noticed black people have always cared about those deaths...from the "stop don't shoot signs" posted in many windows to trying to get kids into extra curricular activities and keeping them in school...so how dare you insinuate we don't?
The story is fake. These kids ran roughshod through the park beating people up. They beat the jogger too. Quality police work brought these miscreants to justice to serve the time they richly deserved. I’m just glad I left NYC so my tax dollars didn’t have to pay for their reward for being such thugs that night. They all acted in concert with Reyes. He did not act alone.
stephen karmichael In many ways, you’re right. But in this context, I disagree. I think we are just grasping for air in the form of one person who’s doing a lot to make people see us as human. I get it, I’m Black and I admit that in general Black people dress up dysfunction and call it culture. I’m completely against that! But I’m also acutely aware that where the justice system is concerned I’ll always have to be careful. I’m not trying to fight here, I just wish you could experience life with chocolate skin on. I’m not saying every single day is horrible. It’s just that when we enter certain spaces we have to exercise extreme caution because there are people who simple cannot look at us and believe that we’re really human. For example: As a black female I know that if I go get pregnant and drop out of high school without getting a diploma; I’m doomed to a life of poverty and cannot seriously blame white people for my stupidity. (Tons of Black people do that) If I get educated and present myself as a decent citizen then I’ll get a good job and live a decent life. BUT... if the black high school drop-out and the college graduate both get pulled over one night, if either of them even move their hands off the steering wheel, a cop who’s scared of ALL BLACK PEOPLE (even the decent, college educated ones who don’t look/dress like thugs) will panic and shoot. This poor officer may be white, grew up with limited interaction with Black folk and has heard his entire life that we’re ALL dangerous. So now he’s sent out to police these same folk he’s scared of; accidentally shoots one and now the entire world sees him as racist. This long epistle is just an attempt to explain why some Black people will click the like button on anything involving someone like Ava DuVernay. Have a great day now.
If you still think the US is better than this series shows it, maybe you haven't looked honestly enough. The system is utterly broken in many places and knowing where it is off the rails is the first step of mending it.
The RICH WALK OVER EVERYONE THEY CANNOT USE NO INTEREST IN THE COUNTRY OR THE MAJORITY OF ITS INHABITANTS . JUST GET WORSE 45 DREGS. OF A HUMAN . + GOP.
I question whether this can be fixed or mended when we have the policing institutions holding one line and a good deal of society is pushing along another simultaneously. It see more and more evidence that there is a growing tendency in the public at large to be vocal and confrontational, enabled some by our current U.S. President who has shown his disdain for laws that pertain to his style of living. America is showing more and more anger that is not well directed and can spill into disruptions that twist reality into a mob rule scenario.
No country has an infallible governing system. Freedom of speech is one of our most important assets. It allows us to share ideas, speak against injustice, and hold others accountable. We have a frustrating road ahead, but there is light. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if we couldn't speak out against our corrupt leaders and support those that support us? Even if you like Trump, it would be horrifying if he was a dictator. At least we have the ability to comtinue improving our country.
YES!!! That was one thing that really pissed me off while I was watching, every time a reporter or camera popped up and started attacking the boys and their families, they NEVER used *"alleged"* or *"allegedly."* All the news, never giving them a chance. They were guilty and never considered to be otherwise. I was furious when one of the moms was in the phone booth and the reporters came charging in, bombarding her with horrendous remarks and questions about her son when she hadn't even seen him or knew where he was. Just terrible. Also when one reporter brought up the death penalty to another mom. Makes my blood boil that people don't and won't see people as just that: *people* . So evil. Thank you Ms. Ava for telling the story how it really happened.
I LOVE this woman. She is such an incredible voice right now, which comes with a lot of responsibility, but she handles it with such grace. She has so much to say, and I love the way she says it. Such a vibrant talent.
It gives hope to hear someone addressing so many aspects of the central park jogger case. Another case where journalists got swept up and didn't do enough to bring light to a serious miscarriage of justice.
It's NOT the job of journalists to get justice! That's the JOB of our criminal justice system! Journalists REPORT the news good or bad! This misbelief is how so many Americans are watching and reading "entertainment only" platforms like social media and Fox News for news when their focus is opinions. Real news by journalists is now called fake news. SMH
If you're acquitted or proved innocent, the charges should come off records. If you get arrested, what you are accused of will show up in large print and whether it was dismissed is in small print. Guilty until proven innocent it seems. I feel so bad for these boys, and every person wrongly accused of a crime

Right? Which should tell you it probably didn’t happen that way. The raw video footage of the actual interviews are on RUclips. All of the boys had parents or guardians present. I used to drive my barbacks home after shift at 3am And I would take them home and more than not I would get pulled over. The cops would hassle my passenger but really not me. The cops would always assume I as a white girl in the hood was buying drugs. You’d think I’d get more shit for that. But no. My barback got harassed and treated like shit. Those fucking cops assumed us both in negative perception. But my black passenger got more harassment than me Its bullshit. Peoples perceptions have got to change. I hate ignorance.

Just finished the series at 4:30 in the morning and it’s just saddening how we express so much love for this country but disappoint us with these broken systems
The system was never designed with us in mind.
I never expressed love for this country, from it's "discovery" there has been this type of injustice.
ummmmm after 400yrs, trillions of dollars of profit, a fully functional & robust class system and a highly developed social hierarchy based on "Racial" color codes, there is absolutely NO way that you can come to the conclusion that anything is BROKEN!
Man that’s a weird coincidence finished the series at that time too! 😂
Edelyn N me too
Imagine how many young black girls and boys have been affected by the same system. And are still incarcerated due to racism.
Incarcerated or executed.
keep that same though when you get jury duty and a white prosecutor is lying
@@springthunderboxer I will I'm not bias. Right is Right and wrong is wrong no matter the Race!!!!
That seems to be the primary reason for why she chose to structure the mini series in the way she did instead of just reenacting the story or just interviewing them.

Exactly why i kneel with Kaepernick
@Sizzle Wrap Are you dumb?
@Sizzle Wrap no we kneel when racist whites won't mind their own damn business. Always creeping around in black folks business.
I don't even like football and I started supporting him
@Sizzle Wrap lol
When i watched the documentary on central 5 I cried. This story is so painful
It was a sad case. I cried a lot for these kids.
Queen Che it’s very painful 😖
The story is fake.
These kids ran roughshod through the park beating people up. They beat the jogger too. Quality police work brought these miscreants to justice to serve the time they richly deserved. I’m just glad I left NYC so my tax dollars didn’t have to pay for their reward for being such thugs that night. They all acted in concert with Reyes. He did not act alone.
@@Scrantonman95 can somebody handle this uneducated RACIST? Cuz today I'm off

stephen karmichael In many ways, you’re right.
(Tons of Black people do that)
If I get educated and present myself as a decent citizen then I’ll get a good job and live a decent life.
BUT... if the black high school drop-out and the college graduate both get pulled over one night, if either of them even move their hands off the steering wheel, a cop who’s scared of ALL BLACK PEOPLE (even the decent, college educated ones who don’t look/dress like thugs) will panic and shoot.
"The system isn't broken, it's fixed" Michael Che
just because false convictions happen does not mean that there's some chaos going on.
Media does the bidding of the highest bidder
Guilty, *even if proven* innocent.
