His take on lotr was arguing blindly tho. Classifying all white people who have an issue with completely rewriting the lore of an existing world in order to suit modern times as racist is racism. There is a valid reason for being disappointed that this addition to the story took the lazy way of diversifying by just using the casting process instead of adding to the existing story to explain why this addition has a diverse cast whilst the earlier creations (which are set at a later time) did not. The world it is set in did have black people. They just did not live in the area where these stories are set. I live in France, and I confirm that what Trevor says about racism in France is unfortunately true. Bravo 👏🏻 for your clever answer to the French ambassador !
The ambassador should have let it slide in the first place; it was only a joke. However, Trevor’s conclusion is inaccurate. French-Africans celebrate their dual culture, just as others do in the USA, without denying their roots. But if the U.S. national basketball team won the World Cup, you wouldn’t say Africa won because most players are African-American. This has nothing to do with racism or skin color; it’s simply a fact that they are, above all, Americans, regardless of their heritage.

That imposing laws and policies that limit freedom and opportunity is a flex? That it was and is beneficial? And honey that last part wasn't 400 years ago. That is happening TODAY globally. My point is brown/black people are not running around plotting to return the "favors" to those not of their racial groups. So there's nothing to fear by having a person of color who was born and reared in that country as its leader. Also, industrial development is a double-edged sword. @maolcogi why the passive aggressive sarcastic tone? We're just having a conversation here and it can be done in mutual respect. Plus, I already answered 😏
But Africans did live in Medieval England and were described by various terms such as: 'Black', 'Ethiopian' (used generically to refer to all Africans), 'Moor', 'Blackamoore' and 'Garamantes. Oh wow, what excellent points about being African AND French, and how we in America don't discount, don't *disregard* our roots. Perfect response to that letter, Trevor, well done. 👏👏👏
it's not disregarding of our roots. i think he worded it wrong. it's more of here in the EU we go by where you where born rather then the collour of the skin they have or where your ancestors come from . when you are born in the country as well as their parents or grandparents you are from that country. assuming where we are from based on skin collour is something we view as racist. our roots is where we where born and raised not where our ancestors where born and raised. we don't use terms like "African french " "German french" etc otherwise i would have been "french Belgian" in eu we identify as the place we where born at if that makes sense.

Yup. TBH I feel part of this falls on the shoulders of JRRTolkien. His books were frought with black & dark evil vs. light and white goodness. Today, literary license is wide enough to bring a retelling of LOTR into this century with some diversity without compromising any of Tolkien's saga. (edit: typos)

I remember reading a comment where someone wrote - "it's not scientifically correct to have a black mermaid. They should be pale or translucent." 😂😂😂 I can't with stupidity. Scientifically correct mermaid 😂
But there is a deeper scientific point there about our genetic makeup and why people in cooler counties evolved white and people in warmer climates evolved to be black. TREVOR NOAH's comedy is put out only after in-depth understanding of the topic and after understanding every perspective of the topic. From India, I appreciate this among artists, comedians being the best of them.
Yes . I'm from Ireland 🇮🇪. Black slaves were brought here by vikings. It was noted that they came here and stayed for many years. By the way , Irish society at that time was against slavery. It was purely run by vikings. Who by the way were, are my ancestors. In Irish we call them an fir gorm. Which means the blue men
@@devonteswing6792 That's going to depend on your personal racial doctrine, isn't it? If you hold to the One Drop rule, then by now that would probably be all of them. I didn't care about the diversity (by that, I mean that I enjoy diverse casting, but I don't care if there are black elves in a show or not, but that's a personal viewpoint) BUT I hated the show. I thought it was written horribly. Except for most of the Dwarven stuff, those parts were pretty neat.
I've not heard anyone I know complain about the diversity, but rather many of the "creative liberties" taken with the source material, making it too different from the original stories by Tolkien. Like making Galadriel into a fighter rather than powerful magic user and similair things.
I think most fans aren’t really upset about the actors but the utterly bad story. There’s no development in the main character, the world doesn’t fit into the legacy material, all the „woman do everything better“…it’s just annoying and boring. Because that’s how strong woman act. Trevor, you hit the nail on the head!! French colonization is “avec assimilation”. This became a challenge with Africans colonized by France. Some see themselves as “French”. No matter how you look at it, if you are brown, you are of African stock!
The genius in Noah is prominent but his gift to combine it and trivialize complex issues and present them as rib cracking jokes is why he is prominent. and he is prominent.
I understood the French ambassador. These people are French are maybe want to be French. Trevor said, the ambassador took "part of their identity away" but how about let the players define their identity on their own and default on their country identity in the passport? I know, in America some people define their-selves as something one of their grandparents used to be. And thats ok! But that is not everywhere the case. If the French players want to identify as French and African, sure nobody should deny that. But that is something they decide and not the ambassador or Trevor. On the other hand, French people are also quick with "THESE AFRICAN!!!" if something bad happens... But I hate them for that as well.
Yep, in france we consider the fact to call someone not french when this person actually is french (just based on skin colour) to be racist. I understand the American view on the subject but it doesn’t apply to france (and most of Europe I would say)
brazilians also don't cling to roots like americans, in our country, everyone sees themselves only as brazilian. however, we are taught in history how colonized our country is. we know that we have african, indigenous, portuguese blood, and probably DNA from 3 other nations that migrated to the country (japanese, germans). that doesn't make us any less brazilians, but knowing where you come from matters a lot. you shouldn't simply erase the history as if it were nothing. i think trevor is right when he says that you can identify with the country you were born in, but that you can also remember the origin of your birth. if a brazilian feels offended when africans want to welcome them as part of their culture, they certainly needs to read the history of brazil.
So smart! So perceptive. Such a great leader through his use of intelligence, comedy, diversity, transparency, and accountability. Preach it, Trevor Noah! And never back down! We need you to continue speaking your truth. ❤❤❤❤
I don't know how this will be taken, but I have to say this: casting different color actors for House of the Dragon was actually BRILLIANT -- it created an easy visual way to tell House Velorian (white hair and dark skin, originally from ancient Valyria, don't ride dragons, etc) from House Targaryen (white hair and pale skin, originally from ancient Valyria, some do ride dragons, etc)... also the mixed race ones are the Valyrians from both House Velorian AND House Targaryen. It was an excellent move, not just "diversity for diversity's sake" - these people represent two different houses, and some of their children represent a mixture of both houses :) it was awesome. (there's also a third house from Valyria in the books, would be interesting if they made them by giving Asian actors white hair, hehe) PS: it would have been SUPER EASY to in-character explain the racial diversity in The Little Mermaid - at least on the land part: one gossiping servant lady: "Did you see the new girl? She looks so strange and different." another gossiping servant lady: "Yes but I came here from a ship wreck, your parents came here from a ship wreck. We're all strange and different on this island." BOOM! It's an island where most people got here from ship wrecks. An in-movie explanation for diversity. Was that so hard??? ALSO that black queen should have been the prince's stepmother - a non-wicked step mother is such a missed opportunity! Instead he's not a prince but just some guy that was adopted by the queen... :(
another easy visual way to be distance is having velaryons wear blue their house color or white while the targs wore red and black what you posed is nonsensical reasoning
by your logic no king or royalty form any nation would be able to tell each other apart during the medieval era as they were all white despite wearing different colors and symbols and is diversity for diversity sake and the targs ar heavy on the keeping the blood pure thats why they married each other and the velaryons a lot and rarely ever married out now explain why they would marry out to a house who tainted their blood why
ALSO! re """by your logic no king or royalty form any nation would be able to tell each other apart during the medieval era as they were all white despite wearing different colors and symbols""" -- yes, YES!!! If/when a king removes his colors and symbols of royalty, removes his wig, washes all that lead powder off his face and hair (heh) and dresses like a commoner or like a regular rich guy - people can NOT tell it's their king. That's not just my logic it's an absolute fact.
America is so lucky to have suddenly someone like Trevor to come here and help us understand the racism that we have but are not aware of it. Trevor taught me some things about American racism that I had never considered and now I do. One thing was I never considered how much money a black person loses by being black over many years into the past, now, and in the future. That's real money that you can count if you care to figure the subtleties of the losses. To say that a portion of this nation was built on the backs of black people is not an exaggeration if you look at the history of specific movements. Important is my deep and sincere thanks missing to Trevor Noah who is in America as a blessing..... Any surprise too, if you listen to this intelligent man. I am sorry, Trevor, you have no place to go in America with your talents. That weeknight show is a big exception. I wish you could stay around but I can't think of a spot for that. I love your telling of your history of your family and your mothering. I hope I got it all it is so valuable but I guess there's more. The more is probably not saleable on American television. Sadly it looks like the only place you have now this is what people in your position take and that is writing ( I know that is true personally as I squeak from the sidelines). Where are you, can youn find a more public spot?
Noah and Stewart have one major similarity: We wish they were our political leaders. Their insight on issues and ability to express the logic behind them is honorable. Much respect !
Politics is not about fairness it's about who is the best puppet. Let him be unpolluted. We need his innocence. Politics is not for everyone. You go in innocent and come out full of corruption.

On the part of the Black Panther argument: something like this is, like we all know, currently happening with the snow white movie, a character, who's most central aspect is her description of her looks, where here name originated from This is why I'm kinda looking forward to the movie in how Disney tries to wiggle themselves out of that explanation
That's Disney quagmire to be honest.problem most people put the anger where it doesn't belong....like blaming say black people as a whole as if we where the ones who made that movie.

The way Trever broke down the French ambassador's letter and took him to school was eye opening.
Also the accent was on point

Sure you do.
Racism in France is open and widely prevalent...just denied

(there's also a third house from Valyria in the books, would be interesting if they made them by giving Asian actors white hair, hehe)
PS: it would have been SUPER EASY to in-character explain the racial diversity in The Little Mermaid - at least on the land part:
one gossiping servant lady: "Did you see the new girl? She looks so strange and different."
another gossiping servant lady: "Yes but I came here from a ship wreck, your parents came here from a ship wreck. We're all strange and different on this island."
BOOM! :(
another easy visual way to be distance is having velaryons wear blue their house color or white while the targs wore red and black what you posed is nonsensical reasoning
by your logic no king or royalty form any nation would be able to tell each other apart during the medieval era as they were all white despite wearing different colors and symbols
and is diversity for diversity sake and the targs ar heavy on the keeping the blood pure thats why they married each other and the velaryons a lot and rarely ever married out now explain why they would marry out to a house who tainted their blood why
ALSO! re """by your logic no king or royalty form any nation would be able to tell each other apart during the medieval era as they were all white despite wearing different colors and symbols""" -- yes, YES!!!
Trevor Noah's breakdown of these situations is amazing.
7:05 my man was tapping dat letter like it was an ipad, had dem pinchers ready for zoom in zoom out. Love his shows
Trevor needs to return with a new Trevor Noah Show. 😌
I try to do right, but sometimes I fail. But seriously, this coming unhinged over black mermaids and elves is flat out crazy.
There is no better debater, no better voice of reason, no better celebrity who knows how to reflect and bring a point-of-view, genuinely presented with lasting and realistic arguments. Respect to Trevor Noah.
I loved it when Noah said seeing danger n running towards it ..😂😂😂😂😂
Love this guy. So smart and funny at the same time.
We all need to get together to get Trevor Noah, his own show …come back …
There is no one else like him out there Great man
Crazy part is that the ones that need to see Trevor’s and other common sense content never will😢
On the part of the Black Panther argument: something like this is, like we all know, currently happening with the snow white movie, a character, who's most central aspect is her description of her looks, where here name originated from
This is why I'm kinda looking forward to the movie in how Disney tries to wiggle themselves out of that explanation
That's Disney quagmire to be honest.problem most people put the anger where it doesn't belong....like blaming say black people as a whole as if we where the ones who made that movie.
DANG IT...Trevor Noah, your comedy, your phenomenal hot takes, your analysis, you are SEVERELY missed!
I like how Trevor is always imitating accents. It's just amazing.
