Excellent comparison demo! TR2 sounds more natural and warmer. For the price if the Choka, you can’t go wrong. It’s sounded good as well.

It seems the boss has a less affected sound where as the TC seemed to colour the sound in a Mid/reverby type of way. Did anyone else hear something similar? Certainly the TC handled distortion as nicely if not better than TR2.

To my ears the Choka seemed to play at a lower volume, and (possibly because of the lower volume) seemed like it had less attack and at times, less definition. The TR2 to my ears was louder, crisper and brighter, and it would be a matter of opinion as to whether or not that's desirable. It might be, it might not be, depending on what you want. Nice comparison video. Well done.

I have a choka tremolo. The smoothest sound is with the LFO knob set at 10 o'clock. Not fully ACW as, you want a simulation of a sine wave, not a triangular wave.

Thanks for the demo. I do like the way the TC cuts and chops and the extra speed, but the boss definitely has a more even tempered smooth wave to it and that subtlety about it does make it sound more tube amp like.

Very similar sounding. The TC pedal is almost $50 less expensive than the Boss pedal though, for essentially the same sounding effect.

So my issue is that while the choka is more versatile (and half the price), it's more choppy on it's "smoothest" setting. Now, my question is this: in theory, we're trying to get a more sine-wave shape to produce a less choppy sound. I would imagine if you place a pedal before it that smooths the signal, say, a chorus on a low setting, it would make it sound less choppy. Can anyone confirm this/complete my thought? FYI I've got 20 bucks down on this pedal at GC and was wondering if I should get the Boss pedal instead The difference seems nominal.

I've owned several cheap tremolo pedals over the years but never been 100% happy with them.
Recently looked at a few more expensive models, including the tc pipeline and jhs tidewater.
Pipeline is amazing but too many things to fiddle with, tidewater is simple and sounds superb but I had to decide if I wanted to spend that much.
Back to the comparison, The boss pedal sounds warmer, softer and more subtle. Its definitely a good sounding pedal. The choka doesn't sound quite as warmer rounded but it does sound like it has more scope for use. The effect seems more obvious.
I wanted a tremolo that's not just a one trick pony so I ordered a choka

Some of these new TC pedals really are just re-housed Behringers. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. They should put the Behringer TO800 into one of these sturdy metal boxes....
