Hey everyone! Please check out the full description for info on the gear in this episode, the white JHS amp, Josh's guitar and strap and links to gear and the record in Record Time. Thanks for watching!
Just thought I would mention the hidden dip switch, that turns on the original ZW circuit in the GT-OD.
Hey Josh... how about a video devoted to your guitar collection ???
Guilt trip master level.
JHS Pedals all i want for you to feature is an Asian made pedal against the US made pedal. doesn’t matter if it’s a modulation or a dirt pedal
Hey! A while ago I did some research and virtually created a pedalboard where almost every item was under 50$, sometimes well under. I'll mention a couple of the ones I found most interesting, both from XVive: The V9 Lemon Squeezer (compressor) and the T1 Golden Brownie (allegedly a vintage JCM 800 in a tiny box). I wonder if you know them and what you think. If you haven't heard of them, I hope this comment helps you to discover some new pedals! www.xviveaudio.com I'd also mention their Tube Screamer but it seems to be out of production currently. It was nice because it was at the same time a Fuzz pedal once you cranked the gain past 12 o'clock, according to the reviews.
$50 pedals that, if you don’t act fast, will become $100 pedals
goobtuber shoot man, I have him to thank for selling my bbe sonic stomp.
TRUE!!
@@serkanonf that's like a nowhere comment...
He had won the victory over himself. He loved Reverb.
$100 pedals that dont suck*
Every single pedal in the Danelectro food series line is amazing. And they all happen to be (mostly) under 50 bucks
I made it through the 90s with a Big Muff and that DOD flanger.
Cast - All Change and Adorable - Against Perfection are two of my underrated britrock faves.
15:16 During the Metal song 🎵 The appearance of the ghost of Halloween past was a good addition 🎉
Good pedal under $50: Sonicake Rude Mouse (Rat) and the klone clone from ttone from Wish...no seriously $24 and change
it'd be interesting to see a list of like "here's some pedals that have totally unique topologies and aren't based on anything"
@superpamber most of the earthquaker pedals i know of are digital, which probably have pretty standard "fresh off the datasheet" layouts with all the unique magic being packed away inside DSP chips
That would be a short list.
Pls review the NUX plexiglass crunch, it was my first pedal and it is still easily one of my most versatile distortion pedals
So ive got a dod flanger after i saw this video, i completely love it. Thank u!
I love that Travis album.. probably because it is the only one that I know.. Oh, no, then theres another one I have.. the one that has "The cage", probably one of the best Travis songs, like top 3 Travis songs.
This is a good one. It came out my very last weeks in college. I had to stop smoking weed while interviewing for jobs. This album helped with that, I guess?
Almost forgot giorgio says aliens helped make those small pedals
the BBE 427 interested me, so I went to look for one... £91 on eBay.
“Gettin weird........wrap it up......”
LoL!!
Favorite Brit rock record?!?!? Are you trying to give me an aneurysm? It's a tie between all the Yes (pre 90125), The Who and Genesis (with Peter Gabriel duh) albums.
Favorite Brit-Rock record is The Stone Roses self-titled album
I wanted that DOD flanger so bad back in like 1993.
"Pedals that used to be $50 that don't suck". There, I fixed that title for ya.
This man is the sole reason I spend 75% of my disposable income on guitar pedals.
Me too. It takes ages saving up 75 cents a week.
@@castleanthrax1833 bruh
You have disposable income?
If you haven’t watched his sweetwater episode yet… you’re not the only one.. he’s pretty much the face of the Behringer Super Fuzz, Sweetwaters #1 selling pedal..
They seem to have gone up a lot in value, so hey!
"You've got 25$"
...that's where you're wrong pal :/
Pretty much the same
Time to write a blues song.
I hear ya'.
Bro same

Only thing missing in these vids are eyebrows
Hahahahahahahaha
What a dick
bruh what happened to em
Winner

It's a pun. Edward the Compressor. After Edward the Confessor, one of the last Saxon Kings of England.
And some here were thinking it meant Edward Van Halen! Go figure.
Thanks for pointing that. Had no clue and i own the pedal. Lol. Wikipedia is helping.
There's also a rack compressor by a different manufacturer that's explicitly named "Edward the Compressor". Marshall probably knew that and went a bit subtle with their pedal.
Screaming skulls!
Came here to say exactly this! Pretty much the only reason I bought the pedal, tbh.
This really is like yelling "FIRE" in the crowded theater that is Reverb.
AHAHAHA
$50 pedals that are actually $100+ when you're from Australia 😭
That so sad, but in my country Indonesia most people just like fake brand like fender, gibson, ibanez, prs, and all
I just got 2 donner pedals for $50 each. Free delivery in Aus. They have distribution from Victoria.
and 200 if you’re from Russia
And 200+ here in Russia!)
@@andrewryan2280 They're on special now. Buy one and get one free.
None of these are $50 anymore
Skysurfer is still $40
A few of them can still be found for around 50 dollars
Thats the josh scott effect my dude
I can find most of these under 50, I find a lot of those Dan electros for like $15, the tremolo one in the video especially
@@SlicedInThree We do not all live in the US, sir!
Mad respect for a pedal brand to be shouting out products from other brands. You guys are just amazing
gateway drugs to get you addicted!
I had this on in the background and that scream during the Donner Pedal demo scared the shit outta me
Love the screamin' skull 😂
I laughed so hard. What a finale. 😸
Y'all should make a high-gain mini pedal, and call it the Screaming Skull
How much for the Skull ???
Yeah, got a snort-laugh from me there.
Yeah that was amazing :')
"Amazing pedals for under $50 that will double in price in the next 2 weeks."
The Donner pedal was good. Skull guest is even better. The highlight of the whole damn video right there😂
Almost all of these are at least twice the price that they were in this video less than a year later.
I was like “oh goodie I can afford a pedal”
... :(
Inflation plus RUclipsr inflation and you’ve got double the price. The circle is becoming silly. The influencer’s give you the secrets, but the secret is know to the world creating demand and more inflated prices demanded by sellers?
22% more dollars were printed up this year. That will make a difference also.
Damn
The screaming 💀 is the best thing on the RUclips today
Great laugh to start your day. 🌄
Alas, poor Yorick! I head banged with him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent metal screams.
The combo of tiny pedal and screaming skull. Best.
Great. Now the prices are going to skyrocket on... Etsy?
facts
Yeah, but now you can get hand knitted pedal cozies with birds on them from the same site you get your pedals from. Just what we, the people, asked for.
@@SpaceCowboy57 With that considered, this is an absolute win.
You can get cool fuzz pedals on Etsy, a lot of them are fuzz face/big muff style circuits with a few component swaps but there's some quirky ones too
That's why Etsy bought Reverb.
In the 45 years since I played my first gigs, I've watched the pedal industry explode into a multi-faceted scene, catering for everyone from the multi-millionaire rock star, with more money than sense, to the kid saving their pocket money for their first overdrive. In the 70's, an MXR distortion plus retailed in the UK (from whence mine came), for what was then 2 weeks wages. But today, as your show so amply demonstrates, princes and paupers alike, can revel in the wonderful world of guitar effects. And thanks to people such as yourself, the hideous snobbery that so often spoils the enjoyment for the less financially fortunate, is turned on it's pompous ass, with proof (if it were needed), that great sounds are available, without a great bank account. Thanks again Josh, for keeping it real.
FWIW, I have a $30 (Australian, so probably about US$4.50) boost pedal by Kokko, that never leaves my board. A lot of the pedals in this episode, are a fair bit more expensive in Australia, but still reasonable. And its great to have the Guru of More Good give the nod to these cheaper expression machines.
My love for this channel has no limits! It's unbelievable nowadays for a brand to promote products of its biggest competitors. But JHS does it and does it good. This shows that it's better to make friends than foes. I would love to get a JHS pedal, even if it were just to promote this stuff! A bit above my budget but if I could, I would pick up a Kodiak without second thoughts! Also, your pedal collection is I-N-S-A-N-E ! Cheers
The glazing is crazy
@@quandaliousvandinglebingle246shut up
$50 pedals that are now $80 pedals....
@DontListen ToMe thanks Putin
$100 here in Canada
Ok you can never ever do a metal pedal without the screaming skull.
What about a screaming walrus?
From now on, I will play metal with a small orange cab and this ridiculously tiny pedal... AND a skull.
The unexpected skull made me laugh so much I have to change my trousers....
Yo I didn’t know Toby Flenderson played guitar
I love Josh, and his pedals and his channel, and basically everything he does... But that's a solid burn.
This is actually is brother in Little Rock
Way better hair tho
What I find most amusing is that the people now pumping up the prices on these pedals in Reverb are missing the ENTIRE REASON we are watching this video. We want the pedals for $50 or less. We're not going to purchase them for $100 or more. We want TWO pedals for $100! Come on, bozos, lol!
$29 compressor that ships for an extra $60! Reverb sellers are out of control!
7:01
You think Reverb is bad Now!
Just wait they Sold therself to Etsy
Or something like that I'm sure it will get worse
Reverb shipping is ridiculous
that sounds like overseas ship prices, reverb is individual sellers a la ebay. it's sister company of chicago music exchange but as long as fees don't go up don't expect changes in pricing. reverb used gear has a premium, sure, but they have better support than guitar center, which still has cheap used gear if you know what to look for
Reverb allways sucks on shipping prices. So forget reverb and shop amazon, ebay or my favourite thomann.de, thomann is much more cheap
My printer's broken, I don't own a car, and there's no Starbucks in my town. Time for pedals!
Amazing how much of an influence Josh has been on the used pedal market. Really goes to show how well regarded he's become since starting this channel.
jhs pedal man bad. JHS PEDAL MAN BAD!
...or good??
Kioni Hernandez where bad means good?
This series has been an excellent PR move for Josh and Co. He has a great personality, and is a very good player in his own right. The fact that he spotlights other companies comes across very selfless. Overall, it's just a very engaging project.
@@thetribalist6923 agreed, and as someone who buys and sells pedals, im all for it. bout time some of these pedals got their due, people already had at least 10 years to snatch em up before
@@JTHelectronics that's actually a great point. I know it's mostly a running gag, but all the talk about Josh inflating prices of these pedals is bound to draw unfounded criticism. These pedals have been on the market for ages. Consumers have had so much time to buy them, that there really shouldn't be any legitimate disdain.
Hey Josh, how about an episode on ridiculously cheap Amazon brands like Ammoon?
i would def be interested to hear what he reps from that part of the market
Yeah. I'd love to see that. I have a Kokko compressor that is incredible from Amazon.
Pedals made by slaves. No thanks
@@davecarpenter2517 your mum was made by slaves
The last recession traced it's roots to the housing market. The next one will start in the pedal market and trace its roots to JHS.
God i love this channel, no gimmicks or someone trying to shove a product down your throat, this channel at its core is a love for pedals and gear.
I built a cheap board all pedals under $50.00 two of my favorites are the Donner Boost Killer great pedal! And the Monoprice 611605 compressor
I put together a totally expendable "dad rock" pedal board - for the rare occasion when I get to play in someone else's garage or basement for a change - for $190 (incl shipping) based around this type of stuff too: Joyo Pipebomb Compressor/Dano Fab OD/Dano Pepperoni Phaser/Mosky Delay/Mosky Reverb.
Boost Killer is amazing. I bought two more within a day of the first one arriving.
I had no clue that monoprice made guitar pedals, thanks for mentioning that.
I run a Donner Tube Drive as a boost into my Marshall CODE25. I can nail the VH 'Ain't Talkin' Bout Love' tone.
12:10 gave me my first really good laugh of the morning...thanks Josh! 🤣🤣
Yep got me giggling. And 12:33. If it’s worth doing once it’s worth doing 3 times?
4 years later, Josh is still a treasure to the music world. We gotta protect this man
Better order these before they all sell out like the Behringer pedals did!
GCF what are you talking about?! All those crappy pedals are still available for sale on reverb except that horrible knock off of the super fuzz which btw you can buy for about $300 from shine ei honey, they made an exact copy with rights and everything and have even reproduced the cob and roto vibe exactly, Pete Townsend even bought one they’re that good. I own all except the vibe bro
James Hipp not the ultra vibrato. Sold out and out of production
Tristan7395 not true
Yeah seriously after that episode I tried to order the EQ and Octave pedals and 2 sites I usually use were sold out.
What about bass pedals?
I think it would be a interesting video :)
Nope :) :) :)
The skull almost killed me 😆
Ive never bought pedals simply because of the cost barrier, but this really is nice to see not just that there ARE pedals under 50, but hearing what they sound like REALLY helps spur that desire to actually get into pedals.
There were, anyway...
@@Billkwandomy thoughts this whole video
I had that DOD Flanger when I was a kid, and paired with a Boss DS-1, it made me so happy. That pedal is AWESOME
I have it now. It's brutal lol.. Sucks all the bass out your signal into a cold metallic flange hell. Also, out of 10 pedals i have in the chain it makes the most noise, an ear piercing ring with paired with certain other effects. HOWEVER, you pump the bass up a bit and do some overdrive/compression before it hits this pedal and it's crazy good. Amazing. Will probably never switch it out, it's cherry on top of my heavy sound, the final layer before maybe an all encompassing stereo verb or delay at the very end of the chain. Helps me sound like Neil Young and the Horse at their heaviest and most psychedelic. That or Hawkwind. FK YEAH.
I have it. It is fun to jam with. It has never made it to any of my recordings or gigging tunes, but I still can't let it go.
Blur: Self titled album. Graham Coxon's guitar work on that album is sublime.
But is Graham Coxon’s guitar work ever not sublime?
Agreed
FINALLY! Someone else understands why everyone should love baby blue guitar pedals.
Blue sounds better. It's scientifically proven.
@@toothace3 blue sounds better, but red makes you play faster. It's a difficult choice to make
Thank God it's not baby brown )
@@duffman18 I was just about to post something very similar when I read your comment. In the world of motorcycles, it is common to hear/read someone commenting that: With two exact motorcycles (same manufacturer, same model, same model year, same equipment, etc), with the only difference being the paint colour: The Red one is faster!
I recommend the TC Electronic MojoMojo. It's $50 and sounds awesome. Paul Gilbert uses it, and he had some amazing tone when I saw him live a while back, so I got one for myself and it sounds great. It has a lot of gain available as well, at least enough to do 70s hard rock.
Mojo mojo is like a dark matter light.get the dark matter.you might need exra gain someday:)
I just boost with my overdrive (the Moonshine side of my JHS Sweet Tea usually) and there's enough gain. The MojoMojo by itself is good for more classic rock levels of gain.
I love my mojo mojo. Best bang for the buck
That skull on the metal pedal was a fun addition.
I was constipated, on the toilet, watching this video, and the scream during the metal pedal demo helped me push out that stubborn turd because of how hard I was laughing.
You said you like shoegaze. Could you make a video on pedals good for that?
What pedals are good for shoegaze? The answer is yes
I second this ! Pls n ty.
Reverse reverb.
Line 6 Verbzilla.
Get a Line 6 M9. I got one used for under 200 dollars with an expression pedal and at that price it's the best bang for buck, all-in-one shoegaze solution out there.
Just add a couple of of your favourite drives - buy used at under 100 bucks and you've got yourself everything you'll ever need for shoegaze for 300 dollars or so.
Edit: Did i mention it's a lot easier to carry around than a huge pedalboard?
I hope you know the power you weald and the frenzy you have caused...
I’ve never seen anyone publicly praise The Man Who for how good it is. Radiohead aside, the best Godrich production
That donner nano series pedal sounds great! I had a tube driver from that series which was also
surprisingly great..no noise, great tone The ROWIN nano stuff seems to be the same thing rebranded..they sent me a free looper, looks like the same enclosure too
.DO A DONNER NANO SERIES episode ?? Puh..lease ? I’m dying to know if they’re all great,
That Donner pedal was extremely noisy.
@@MorleyRobertson1975 I bought that pedal on the strength of this video. Great tone, zero noise. It's now my go to distortion pedal.
Odd. The one he has sounded like a nest of rabid snakes
JHS, I loved this episode. Im a big fan of the TC Electronics Skysurfer. I picked one up after seeing you recommend it.
I think it would be cool if you could do an episode on DIY pedal builds that you think are worth trying. I'm kind of a nerd and like DIY stuff like this, and I think a lot of your viewers would agree.
I would! It's been some time, so if you've found something like that I would love to know. Or if you can just recommend some stuff yourself :)
@@Dapno_ I'm late but building your own Jan Ray isn't very hard, schematics are easy to get, and it sounds great :)
The skull really knows how to rock
Yeah, the screaming skull bit cracks me up every time. Seriously, there needs to be a complete song of this produced and put up for sale on your site.
I was listening very loudly and the screaming skull scared me
. I have heart disease due to a heart attack and need to avoid intense emotions or scares but it's funny because after the scare I laugh a lot
. The videos on this channel are addictive, you can't be indifferent. Well Josh really seems to be a super nice guy from those guys that is worth having a good conversation.
Man he almost killed you :'(
I would love to know your opinion about Chinese brands like Joyo or caline even mooer or ammon, other channels said that are better than beringher but i would love a video about in your channel
Mario Marquez yeah, give me a video on how the joyo American sounds is amazing so I can sell it for more than $10.
Id like to hear that as well, like the Behringer video. I’d imagine they’re the same circuits, but “better” because they are in metal enclosures and not plastic. I have a couple Joyo clones of the Boss Chorus, Boss Tremolo, and I have a Caline clone of the Fulltone full-drive 2....I mean you can’t tell a difference man. Seriously. And they’re $35. I own or have owned the originals, and theres just not enough difference to tell.
IMO it all depends what you're looking for.
Each company puts out some fairly cool stuff for the pricing, regardless of originality.
Bheringer has stuff like the VT-999 which I use to warm up/fatten my tone and remove the signature Boss dirt pedal fizz from boss stuff,
joyo and mooer make some cool stuff too, everything from amp sims to mini electric mistress clones.
To be honest, any pedal brand makes fine equipment when put in the right hands, it all depends on personal selection, price, and form factor.
Dr. J is JOYO and Donner right here in this video.
@@MrHallcore I feel your struggle.
some pedals are just so readily available, and for so cheap, alot of the time people dont bother buying them second hand simply because for $15 more they can grab one brand new for themselves with a warranty if it ends up being shit.
This is one of those pedals that if I were trying to sell it myself, I wouldn't bother selling it because of how long that'd take.
I'd get rid of it in a trade for something that puts me on the better end of the deal.
It'd be easier to trade it for a boss DS-1 off of some desperate seller, then take that and sell that off to a newbie for that standard $40-50 so you can come out on top omce again and get something you actually want with the cash or in another trade.
Keep flipping and maximizing the worth of what you're holding until you've got a pedal that somebody would accept in a trade for something you'd want.
Just make sure you end up with an item thats got some clout attached to it so you can move it.
Trade your way up to a Boss metalzone and then cash out in an actual sale, because those pedals actually sell now and are still easy enough to trade for.
"Why Does it Always Rain on Me" is a lost classic.
Badly Drawn Boy: "The Hour of the Bewilderbeast."
Favorite Brit Rock Record.
Another cheap, great baby blue pedal is the Caline Pure Sky . Another nice, cheap pedal is the Mosly/Muslady Silver Horse Clon clone. It's a great introduction to the Clon sound without breaking the bank. It's like 20 bucks.
The Pure Sky sounds amazing!
Today - November 6, 2021, the BBE 427 is only $32.54 with free shipping at Music & Arts!
Every morning a pedal lover wakes up. It knows it must outrun Josh releasing a new pedal video or it will starve to death.
That compressor was $29 plus $57.80 for shipping.
lol
Excellent. Volume Pedals That Don't Suck would be helpful.
Hard to find!
Just listened to “writing to reach you”. I’m now a fan! (Insert slow 👏🏻 clap)...What a phenomenal recommendation! Your show is simultaneously informative and awesome. A pedal manufacturer that is willing to support and endorse other pedal companies (mind blown 🤯).
Please keep it up!
That DOD flanger was my first pedal back when I was a tiny tiny dribbling young person! I dug it out recently and used it on a recording for the first time in... a certain amount of years... I always thought it sounded how it looks: shiny and blue.
Stone Roses' SECOND COMING is my favorite Brit rock album.
I've almost always had a DS-1 on hand. So that's my favorite under $50 pedal -- especially now that I discovered the capacitor mod! I liked that baby blue reverb.
I would love to see you do a full on Joyo episode covering their pedals as well as the Dr J stuff you were talking about.
Josh > Has more pedals that anyone in the universe
Also Josh > "I might not have enough pedals"
Yeah, these are not as cheap anymore. They're $20-$40 now, 2 years later. Blame Covid and everyone sitting at home playing guitar.
Just wanted to say this channel has become my favorite RUclips channel and I can't get enough of it. I've always loved guitar pedals even though I mostly play bass and synth. Some cheap pedals I have bought that I like are the Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octava (it's green!!), Caline CP-26 reverb, Donner Ultimate Comp compressor & the Caline CP-18 Orange Burst overdrive. I was doing an experiment to see if I liked cheap pedals as much as the expensive stuff. I Liked them a lot. They are sturdy in metal enclosures and all sound good to me. My point is that for me price does not correlate to how much I like a pedal. Your video Made me happy because a person like you who is respected in the pedal world is kinda saying the same thing or at least that's my interpretation. Thanks for all the awesome videos you are making.
I got a fever! And the only prescription.. is more screaming skull!
Last time we did this, i had to run out and buy a BBE tremor (the one without the ugly paint job).
Let's see what gets pricehiked this week!
OMG!! I already own one of these pedals! I'm going to be a millionaire!!
Ok, you all realize that you have to buy all these pedals a.s.a.p. before they are sold out and you have to pay a fortune for them on the second hand market. And yes, put the blame on Josh.... 😂
I’ve tried quite a few Danelectro pedals that I really liked. The Fish and Chips EQ is actually one of my favorite EQ pedals. Even the little mini ones are usually great sounding.
Title of the video should be pedals that doubled or tripled in price after Josh showed everyone how cool they are.
I can only hope Skelly becomes a regular.
Big fan of that DOD pedal. Its subtle sounds work great on recordings. Favorite cheap pedals are probably the Behringer Fuzz, MXR Custom Modified Overdrive, and the Microtron.
He needs to do a whole episode on donner pedals, I love their mini pedals
I miss this kind of video! I also miss Reverb having anything under $50
DAMN I just realized I have always needed a TC Electronics Sky Surfer......
Also Travis, yes (though I must admit to being partial to their "Invisible Band" album as well... maybe even more simply because of the opening track and certain memories associated with that.
You have to check out the TC electronic Dark Matter Distortion ! It's a formidable overdrive
Travis` The Man Who....one of my favorite albums. So good
Donner pedals are killers!!, i have 2 and i’m in love with those nano powers!
My favorite cheap pedal is Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive v2. The best overdrive pedal ever, except a plastic body and a weak button.
I know this video is like two years old but the riff you played with the Danelectro tremolo was actually so inspiring.
Get a zoom ms50g ,you will have everything you want even clone in this pedal, just $70
No TC rusty fuzz? Best cheap fuzz bar none, so so so versatile, can do lighter pumpkins fuzz, heavy ripping velcro, roll back tone for muff thickness, even stacks well with overdrive. Based of a fuzz face, but it's better dare I say it. That tone knob is just magical.
When I first started playing acoustic gigs, I used the Edward the Comp pedal as a vocal comp with a Hi Z cable adapter. I used it subtly & once I dialed it in, it worked unbelievable well. It made my vocal notes sustain smoother and it helped even out the dynamics so I didn't have to move in & out as much. It actually sounded professional.
Btw, I think if more people tried a bit of comp on their live vocals, they'd love it & so would their audience. It's almost like adding a bit of Autotune but in a more natural way. (Kind of similar to how reverb smooths notes out & makes them sound more steady/ uniform).
