Thank you so much, I am a black woman that loves to see other ethnicities, especially white women with dread locs and braids, you ladies look great in them too❤❤
Here to just offer some unsolicited advice as a person who has gotten traditional braid extensions for most of my life. Please please please be careful with how tight you make your install and be mindful of the weight of the extensions you are using in relation to the thickness/section of hair. Doing most styles with extensions can thin the hair if the extension is heavy and pulls on the section of hair. I usually use Marley hair because it’s very light. However that texture of hair isn’t best suited for European people. Anytime a style feels too tight or too heavy - it is and you run the risk of ruining your hair especially if it’s already fine/low density.
I had mine professionally installed and she put them in so tight it did a lot of damage to my hair 😢😢 tons of breakage right at the root. Never ever again! I’ll be doing it myself from now on so I appreciate your comment because I’m learning what is right and wrong to do on my hair type!
This! I've been doing them myself for a while just because my stylist was completely careless. Lots of pain. Ripping hair, then bleach, she just kept handing me ibuprofen until I cut the appointment short. Never again. Crying in a chair from pain is not how I want to be maintenance my hair.
@Crows'nRoses i can't imagine being a professional in the beauty industry and being totally fine with hurting my client so bad that their crying, I'm sorry you had to go through that. Also, I'm pretty sure she could get in a lot of trouble if she offered the wrong person ibuprofen or medication of any kind. Some people get REALLY up in arms about that kind of thing.
You look soooooo cute!!! Dreads are so pretty when they are neat and smooth and I really do encourage more people to try them (I'm black, bu the way). I only say this because of another comment (also by a black woman) that wished to encourage all ethnicities to try hairstyles associated with black culture and people. I see too often online where there are non-black people (mainly white girls) that are interested in these hairstyles (many of which are made popular by black folk, but not necessarily originated with us), but are worried about potentially offending others. Anyone that will be offended is not worth your time! A personal favorite hairstyle of mine is Bantu knots (I wear them all the time), and I think they would look unbelievably gorgeous on anyone, and they are stylish and neat and punk, so, I want to see more people try this style out, too.
Being an Indian and having dreadlocks going in 6years now I must say this looks so good on you. My hair was fine the same way as yours is and having real dreads thicken them up. It was nice to see how you put them on and it's good that you can take them out at anytime. Good job I enjoyed watching.
THANK YOU! I went from rage removing a very dodgy first row, to a full head in a few hours thanks to this video. Yes, some of them are closer to my scalp than others, and trying to neatly section went out the window fairly early on 🤣 but I've completed my first install! Thank you xx
Thank you so much for this nice tutorial. You are the first person I find who has thin hair like I have and has manage to make her locks hold and look good. I love the way you explaine. Your tone of voice is sothing and reachuring. It's exactly what I needed to trty it once more. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
This makes me so happy! I love being able to help out however I can! Having thin hair with the dreads was kinda intimidating at first but over time, my hair has only gotten stronger and thicker and over all so much healthier! Good luck! I hope installing yours goes well! 🥰 let me know if you have any questions!
I currently pay $100 without tip for my installs. I usually give a $30 tip. I get mine done every 4-6 weeks. I hate the frizz so I get mine done more often. Eventually I want to do it myself bc it gets expensive! I have 2 young boys so atm its easier to pay to get it done. This will help SOOO much when I do it myself!!! Thanks for taking the time to film this!
That’s a reasonable deal for installs! That’s awesome! But ya learning this will save you over $1,000/year! The time it takes to do it by yourself is just hard at first I think. I have shaved 3 hours off my install time haha so now a 4 hour install doesn’t feel bad hahaha but idk how it would be with little ones running around! Haha so cute! 🥰
@@nicolepoulton it'd take me probably 2 days or atleast a full afternoon/night with my boys. As soon as they get a little bigger, atleast my youngest, I will do it myself. I cut off 14" to get them done the first time. My hair was almost to my knees lol. Now at my shoulders. Had to take them out last Fri night for my fresh install last sat. For 1 night I didn't have my dreads and I hated it!! Lol. I love that you're sharing tips and tricks!!
Oh my gosh! Omg! I'm getting ready to put in my dreads in a few hours from now! I'm sooo excited! Thank you for all of your videos! I couldn't even begin to do it without you! ❤
Thank you for your installation technique. Of all of the videos I’ve watched installing dreadlocks, your is the very best as well explaining so that even a child could do it properly. I definitely will doing them.
I watched a few videos that weren't much help, you made sure your viewers really know how to install. Thank you so much!!! BTW... They turned out beautiful!
I had mine professionally installed over a month ago, probably right before you posted this, and she put them in so tight it did a lot of damage to my hair! This video gave me the confidence that I can do it myself ❤❤
I appreciate that you gave her some solid advice on how to do this style safely instead of attacking her for being white nad wearing locs. I've only now after like 10 years decided to just go for it because I was so scared of the backlash. Like I just want a protective style that makes me feel pretty. My self image has plummeted since I gained weight during my pregnancy, and I'm sick of waiting til the world gives me permission to do something that makes me happy.
I had the same concerns on the backlash especially being from a lil hick town.. and to my surprise I get so many complaints on my dreads now😊 they say it definitely suits my spiritual healer personality 😜 I’m about to attempt my first dE on my own! Wish me luck!
Thank you I think this is the best tutorial I have seen yet. I went with one end down the other clipped up and it was much more difficult. Wnext week when I redo mine I'll be trying your method thanks so much very helpful❤
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I've been wanting to do this for almost a decade, even went so far as to make my own set that sadly never got used. I have hair very very similar to yours, super fine and super thin and I always worried they wouldn't look good but you give me hope!!
I’ve been toying with the idea of dreads as I love the look on other people but installation is so expensive! I’m so glad I found your tutorial thank you 🙏 ❤xxx
I have the same hair type as you, and I have found that doing SE dreads just on the very top, really perfects the hair line and overall shape. My part is tighter and looks right however I wear it. It’s slightly more time consuming. But in my opinion, totally worth it.
Some YT tutorials are a drag to watch, with a LOT of filler and talking that is irrelevant to the point of the video. But you are absolutely adorable and entertaining to watch, lol. The content is SUPER helpful! Thank you!
Thank you so much for your instructions! I have terribly thin, fine, dry awful hair my whole life- I have never been able to do much with and dreads have helped in the past! Im definitely going to try this!
Lovely. I installed my own single ended dreads. Only did the bottom half of my head, but waiting on the rest to come so i can finish it off. I mainly popped by to see what yours looked with the braids obviously showing, and it looks good. I think my hair is gonna be too thick for the double ended extensions. But i think they are a perfect choice for your thin hair.
Same , I've been waiting for my dreads to come in and I'm so glad I found this video. I now wish I would have ordered that type of dread instead of the singles I got
Thank you so much, I just love you and you make this look so easy, I just got my dreads yesterday,so I have to go back and watch this ,and you make it look so easy, so here I go,I'll let you know how it turns out 😮😊
im watching this on mute bc mustwatchtvshowandytatsometime syndrome and at the beginning when you take the strands and have them - i have always mentally thought "tie like shoelace?" and literally tried that once and realized i was a fool, but the second you did the twist and the upward pull it clicked for me. i've been doing diy hair for 16 years but have always avoided extensions but i crave them and i think that simple twist might let me have the Cosima hair i adore. thanks for making this
Ran into this browsing around for installation instructions ...can't wait for my dreads to get here and give this a try...going to a concert and plan to wear them ....thanks
Thanks so much. Ive always loved dreads and wanted some but didnt really want to commit to doing it to my real hair incase i change my mind*which i tend to do lol* I'll definitely be trying this
No hablo inglés (soy de colombia) y aún así, ha sido el mejor video que encontré! Lo entendí todo. Gracias por tomarte el tiempo, eres una dura 🔥 (youre awesome)
Thank you so much! I've been wanting loc bohemian braids for YEARS! and I've finally ordered some and they're coming in on Saturday 8/24/24!! I've been researching and trying to learn as much as possible so I can get them right and your videos make the most sense to me! So thank you and the locs look amazing on you!
Fantastic instructions! I had the twist/lock concept immediately, took about three tries to get used to it and then I struggled with the braiding on the back of my head until I got that too. I have an undercut but smaller dreads so we’ll see how many I use! I’ve had a set of 40 for maybe 10 years and never managed to get the first step down until now eta: got the first five in 😂 took 2 hours, but I redid them on average 3 times each.
It's defiantly a learning curve!! hahaha When I first installed mine, each dread took me about 30 minutes to get it okay enough lol now I can do a dread in 3-5 minutes. PRACTICE IS EVERYTHING!
Very helpful and they look great on you! On my first set first install taking me forever but it's getting easier. I don't have all doubles though so it's a little difficult. I think this will help especially with sectioning ❤❤❤
Can't wait to do mine. I've never done it before. Also. Use a crochet hook to pull through that dread or straight through to hide real hair. Just an idea 💡
This is the best "how to" video I've seen yet. Thank you. I'm gonna' attempt doing it myself next time. 💪😄 You look lovely both with & without your dreads in, BTW.
THANK YOU SO MUCH - Excuse me as I make notes for myself later lmao Bottom: 3 dreads Next section up: 4 dreads Next section up: 8 dreads Small section at back crown of head/halo: 4 (R, L, B) Top head, with a middle part: (4 on top, 2 under) on each side Total 31 DE dreads
I loved your tutorial 🎉 Thank you! I did a half a set on my first try. They didnt stay in too long. Im gonna try your method this time around. How do you wash your hair with your dreads in?
Thank you for this video. I have wanted dreads my whole life and am finally in a place where, a. I can afford it and b. Idgaf about what people will have to say about it lol! I am torn between doing SE or DE as I have the sides/back of my hair shaved (think hollywood viking hairstyle) and idk which would look better. I am so excited about installing after watching this because you make it look so easy!!!!
Im a little late on the reply but im curious to know what you decided? I think both SE or DE would look great! I think DE gives more coverage but they also weigh more so its a personal preference!
Great Video - If I could make a recommendation - as I had a lot of problems with these little hairbands - and I am certainly not alone there - try looking for an elastic thread like used for Arts and Crafts and clip the ends when you´re done tying them. You could also catch some lose tips of hair with some winds around the locks. I unfortunately bought a lot of these elastics and they jumped off my hair after one night, sadly.
That's my issue too with the fine and thin hair strands. I tried another technique and the dread fell about two inches. Very frustrating. I will try the twist method you're showing. Wish me luck. I imagine it'll take me hours to complete it. 😅
If your still struggling try using a hair clip to hold the dread in place and braid completely before letting the top fall. It would be slightly backward from how she's showing it but basically the same technique
No she don't want to get real it's all about let me see how I look with dreads because I'm white I am not prejudice if that's not your culture I don't think you should do it it don't even look right even the Caucasians that do have dreads that shitt look nasty 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I like this! Especially knowing you won't damage your hair into locks and rags. I would do this concept just lighter extensions/hair and make the grip loose rather than too tight. Other than that it's actually really awesome. It looks good on you.
Omg ily I'm "tryin" 😂 to install my dreads n was doing the starting process.... tyyyy I NOW know how to properly install bcuz of ur video and taking the time to show others. 🙏 tyyy ✌️ ☮️
YAY!!! it makes me so happy that this video helped you!! It’s so simple how to install but it was soooo hard to figure out on my own! Lol I felt like it was my mission to teach people the east way to do it! Hahaha keep sharing the ❤️🥰
Definitely easier on wet hair!!! BUT because hair is so stretchy when it’s wet, it’s WAYYYY more likely to cause damage if installing them wet. So I don’t recommend a wet install!! 🥰
Can’t remember what video I commented on about making my own dreads but I have an update!!! Sooo I had to order online (6 packs of hair) I made 40 DE dreads, and finally finished installing!! I’ll have ti see how well they hold up! On one hand I am IN LOVE… on the other if feels like a LOT and idk if I pull it off😭😂 I have all 40 in, maybe I should do less??
Yay!!!! Oh my gosh I’m so excited for you!!! Haha honestly my first day with dreads (first month really) I felt like I looked crazy! It was just sooooo different than without them! I wear anywhere between 31-42 so if it feels heavy I would just leave a few out on your next install. Maybe that would help? I want to see a pic of yours so bad!! Haha How long did they take to make??
That makes me feel better!!! When I had them halfway in I was OBSESSED and then when I finished I feel like it’s a lot to take in😂 they don’t feel heavy, it’s just a lot of volume! Haha maybe I just have to get used to such a different look lol I want to show you!!! Do you have an email or something? I know you probably don’t want to give out your personal info but I want to send a picture! Haha It was a 3 day process! I made about 16 a day and then installed them as I made them…. Also just did some math and I think I actually have 48 in😂😂 oops haha ….but once I got in a groove and figured out a method that worked for me it was about 10-15 min to make a dread (I have a 3yr old and a 4mo old though so the whole process was dragged out lol)
That’s way faster than I thought tbh!! Wow! (Smart to install them as you go! Haha) For real! I must see them!! Haha send pics to TheNicolePoulton@gmail.com! 48 sounds like a lot haha but I’m sure it looks amazing! Just so different for you to see you like that haha give it at least a week and I bet you’ll start to recognize yourself :) when I first installed mine I swear I looked like a crackhead hahaha I had no make up on, my sections were crazy, I didn’t feel like myself… then literally like two days later I felt so confident! I can’t wait to see your pics!
I definitely think I will do less next time😂 I have a lot of hair so I’ll just have to make bigger sections lol but I’m already starting to like them more after putting them in some space buns lol I sent pictures!!
Found your wonderful video. I have a few questions: What is the total length of your dreads before folding. Can you sleep comfortably with dreads vs braids? (I can’t sleep in braids) Can you see the elastics on the dreads? Thanks in advance for your reply. 😊
I may try dreads. I have in ocean wave dreads. They’re awesome looking but I have scars to hide and I can’t get the top right. This is my 1st installment tho. I’ll keep trying.
I love your dreads! I am on a journey right now to figure everything about them so I can put them on my hair. We have the same exact hair (fine and thin🙄) it's so frustrating. May I ask where you get your dreads?
@Nicole Poulton great, I will be looking forward to watching that video! I knew nothing about them until I started watching some of your videos about them. I found out where you ordered some from, and it's just a lot more money than I would like to spend at the moment, but I hope one day I can order some from dreadfullhippie. I have been looking at a lot of cheaper ones on etsy, but I am afraid they quality won't be there. Until then, I will continue to do my research and save that money! Haha
Omg it looks so nice! Im just starting to research about , what material are you using? I’ve seen woole , Synthetic, but really don’t know what is better

Very helpful and they look great on you! On my first set first install taking me forever but it's getting easier. I don't have all doubles though so it's a little difficult. I think this will help especially with sectioning ❤❤❤
That was very helpful i ordered mine and plan to use this tutorial!!! Thanks girl! ❤
Happy to help! ❤️❤️❤️
awesome! i am a selftaught myself and I figured the exact same tactic out! really awesome
That’s awesome!
Can't wait to do mine. I've never done it before. Also. Use a crochet hook to pull through that dread or straight through to hide real hair. Just an idea 💡
I just got some my hair is longer and just want them in the back ..this helps greatly thank you
This is the best "how to" video I've seen yet. Thank you. I'm gonna' attempt doing it myself next time. 💪😄
You look lovely both with & without your dreads in, BTW.
THANK YOU SO MUCH - Excuse me as I make notes for myself later lmao
Bottom: 3 dreads
Next section up: 4 dreads
Next section up: 8 dreads
Small section at back crown of head/halo: 4 (R, L, B)
Top head, with a middle part:
(4 on top, 2 under) on each side
Total 31 DE dreads
Looks greats, really suits you and like the mix of shades. X❤
This is a great tutorial! Can you advise where one would stop if you're going for the partial dread look??
I love it! I can't wait to attempt this. Best tutorial video I found, thx
That was so simple , you made it so simple to do
You did such a good job!
I do this with my hair all the time and I love the style. Great job!! ❤
Thank you! ❤️ I really love it so much!
Ky uKy uyI yI I I understand I I udon’t use u
Thank you so much for showing this. ❤
You’re welcome! I hope it helps you out!!
Just wanted to come here and say thanks! Your method works wonderful for me!! ❤ installing my first FULL set (I practiced last week haha)
Oh good! Im so glad it helps you! ❤️ good luck on your install!
You are a great teacher lol.
Thanks for putting up such a detailed video. Could you possible show me how to add thread and beads😊
OMG I was so nervios (I'm about to do it by my self) but after seeing this I feel very excited 😊, thanks for sharing 💜
Thaa k you! I have tried several times to do mine, but never get them in tight enough. The twist is the thing!
The twist really helps hold it in! I’m happy this helped you!
Thank you its Just FABULOUS!!
How do you wash your hair with dreads ? And how often ?
Thank you for explaining so clearly how to do this. I'm looking forward to trying it, but what is it like to sleep on?
@@nicolepoulton I finally decided on getting a set of 20 DE but now have to choose colors 😅 there are so many incredible choices!
Omg THANK YOU exactly what I needed
AWESOME! happy to help!
Great tip!
THANK YOU!! Your hair is like mine so it's super helpful to see how it looks. Well done!
Happy to help!! 🥰
Girl our hair is the exact same texture and my ends are the same lolll This is so helpful how to hide my ends!!!! Thank you!!!!
They turned out so nice!! Now I cant wait to install my own!
That's my issue too with the fine and thin hair strands. I tried another technique and the dread fell about two inches. Very frustrating. I will try the twist method you're showing. Wish me luck.
I imagine it'll take me hours to complete it. 😅
Practice changes everything! Just stick with it!! Good luck!! 🥰
@@nicolepoulton Thank you. Tomorrow is the day. 😁
If your still struggling try using a hair clip to hold the dread in place and braid completely before letting the top fall. It would be slightly backward from how she's showing it but basically the same technique
@@natashasignor7430thank youuu gonna try it out rn
Thank you!
I think I can do this.
Your smile warms my heart!!!!
That is the sweetest comment :) thank youuuu!
Wow this video was so inspiring. You changed my life. Seriously all the love. 😂 stairs car
You are wonderful ❤
I send it back 🤣🤣🤣
@meganlewi
Did you think about making real dreads and extend them? This is what I did after the synthetic braid in method and I'm so satisfied... ☺️
Did you post a diy video of the process?
I haven’t tried making my own! I love the length of mine right now but that’s so cool you extended yours on your own! :)
I'm about to get my first oone's ❤. This cleared it up so much!
Yay!! That’s so exciting! I’m glad it helped you out!
Let me know once you get them if you’ve got any questions! ❤️❤️❤️
I know it’s long time ago, but thank u so mutch ! ❤
I like this! Especially knowing you won't damage your hair into locks and rags. I would do this concept just lighter extensions/hair and make the grip loose rather than too tight. Other than that it's actually really awesome. It looks good on you.
Thanks :) I was nervous at first but after wearing the dreads for two years my hair has never been healthier!
@@nicolepoulton that's really awesome. When you took it out, how did that go?
It goes great every time 🥰
Omg ily I'm "tryin" 😂 to install my dreads n was doing the starting process.... tyyyy I NOW know how to properly install bcuz of ur video and taking the time to show others. 🙏 tyyy ✌️ ☮️
YAY!!! it makes me so happy that this video helped you!! It’s so simple how to install but it was soooo hard to figure out on my own! Lol I felt like it was my mission to teach people the east way to do it! Hahaha keep sharing the ❤️🥰
Great video & very helpful...
Thanks for this. I will be using this while I do mine.
I’m happy it’ll help you! 🥰
I’ve heard it makes it easier and cleaner so do this on wet hair with some gel, gets a bit more ichy but they stay in place longer
Definitely easier on wet hair!!! BUT because hair is so stretchy when it’s wet, it’s WAYYYY more likely to cause damage if installing them wet. So I don’t recommend a wet install!! 🥰
Ok never thought of doing it this way. Not perfect but good enough for me.
Thank you so much. I feel like I get it ❤
Thank you so much for this simple explanation video ! This had helped me so much . And spend way less money . Thanksss😭😭💯💯💖
Yes!!!! Self install is the way to go!!! I’m so glad it helped you!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Haha
How long did they take to make??
That makes me feel better!!! When I had them halfway in I was OBSESSED and then when I finished I feel like it’s a lot to take in😂 they don’t feel heavy, it’s just a lot of volume! Haha maybe I just have to get used to such a different look lol
I want to show you!!! Do you have an email or something? I know you probably don’t want to give out your personal info but I want to send a picture! Haha
It was a 3 day process!
Haha)
For real!
The real test is going to see how they look over time lol I’m worried they’ll start to come apart.. idk how dreads work but they feel kinda loose
Looks great 👍👍
Found your wonderful video.
I have a few questions:
What is the total length of your dreads before folding.
Can you sleep comfortably with dreads vs braids? (I can’t sleep in braids)
Can you see the elastics on the dreads?
Thanks in advance for your reply. 😊
I may try dreads. I have in ocean wave dreads. They’re awesome looking but I have scars to hide and I can’t get the top right. This is my 1st installment tho. I’ll keep trying.
Helpful!Thanks!
I love your dreads!
I am on a journey right now to figure everything about them so I can put them on my hair.
We have the same exact hair (fine and thin🙄) it's so frustrating.
May I ask where you get your dreads?
For real! I feel your pain! Haha
I am putting out a Q&A video tomorrow that should help you a ton!! ❤️
Have you been looking into locs long? 🥰
Haha
Super transformation !!
Thanks! These dreads are so much fun! 🥰
Omg it looks so nice! Im just starting to research about , what material are you using? I’ve seen woole , Synthetic, but really don’t know what is better
