In this week's video, I go over how to install temporary synthetic (or wool!) extensions onto loose hair! I cover both single-ended (SE) and double-ended (DE)-- both with a classic 3-strand braid method and also a blanket stitch method!
Don't forget to check out last week's video to see how I create a set of synthetic extensions: • make a set of dreadloc...

I have been researching how-tos for several months. I'm from the Midwest and I cannot find anyone who can do this. I figured I could do them myself as I wore real dreads for years, years ago. Thank you as this has been the best video I have found with detailed info.
🙋🏻♀️ here I am- in Hannibal, Mo! 💁🏻♀️
The Sunflower Dread Shop / Knotty By Nature, both here in the Midwest!!!
Springfield, MO! ❤
I'm not sure where you are in the mid-west but I am getting partial dreads put in the end of this month - I am in Minnesota! If you are close let me know I can send you my stylists info! 💙
OMG same heree sis and now we have the perfect solution rrrr 🎀✨💕 thank you so much!
This is best video I’ve seen on install. I want to see more sectioning
I'm a synthetic dreads maker and artist and I install the dreads like this. I prefer the blanket stitch but sometimes with color the regulair braid is just more fun! Love your video and I will tell my clients about this video! 🤩
Do u know how to keep them from slipping? After washing
Yes how do u wash synthetic dreads
hi love, could you pls help me to test my dreads hair? i will provied the hair free for you, if you are interesting, pls let me know
@@kellyduarte4943when I had dreads (my natural hair) I used braid shampoo which is like hand sanitizer or regular shampoo but no conditioner. Wool is special (look at wool cloth diapers) and I believe you can use lanolin with them
I have been trying for a while now to figure out how to hide the pesky ends that stick out.... never once thought to wrap them before putting on the rubber band. Thanks so much for all of your amazing videos.
Love this! I get my DE curly braided in with blanket stitch and had no idea how to do that stitch myself. If I need to reinstall one myself, now I know how - thanks!!
Love this and blanket stitch is a common one for braiding hemp- def easy once you learn it!
Omg this tutorial is awesome. Thank you for making it more simple. Some tutorials make it way to complicated. Thank you, this was way more straight forward and easy to follow.
Thank you for your video. I’ve had extension dreads before but always had them put in by a hair stylist. This will be my first time putting them in myself. Your video was very helpful.
Came across your video. This is indeed very good for someone who doesn’t know how to do braided hair and wants to do their own hair. Excellent video. Thank you❤
This is by far the best helpful video ! Thank you 🙏
I am a fellow dreadlock artist as well!! I do extensions and natural dreads. I use the blanket stitch most often for the uniformity and shortness of their hair showing to leave more dread to show off and enjoy ❤ I LOVE this video though!! 🙌
This is so helpful you've got a great personality and you explained everything very well thank you
Just found your channel and I LOVE it!
I've been wearing DE extensions for 4 years. I do the standard braid method except I flop the top over and braid it in so it lays on top of the loose end. This keeps them flatter to my head and I also shows off the "wrapped" side.
You’re amazing, and your pronunciation is stunning. I’m from Italy and I can easily understand every single word ❤😍 thank you!
The best video I've seen this far! And I have watched a lot! I finally understand how to do this now! So nice! Thank you soooo much! ❤
Thank you so much. You've helped me make a decision been fighting with for months now!
Very cool! I’m always learning something from you Liz! ❤️
Thanks Liz! You have an awesome talent/gift!
Very informative video! At this time, I am only watching it for enjoyment because I don't currently have any plans to wear or install dreadlocks on myself or on anyone else. But I do find this fascinating!
This is an excellent video, and I'm certain it is a very helpful resource for those who are actively doing dreadlock installations!
Fawn 😊
I ❤ this video , best advice for the techniques ! Very helpful for the dreads ima get next week
Awesome! I was super bummed I’m in a small town and had them done but they literally fell out after 6 days (talk about embarrassing having a chunk land on the floor lol) I was just going to give up but found this and think I can do this at home!! Saved me a lot of grief !! Thank you!
I had a similar problem, and I just simply use an elastic at the base before braiding as well. No more sliding! 😊
@@musicnart7806 Omg thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I am having SE dreads put in the end of this month by my stylist. I did not know how easy, albeit time consuming lol, it was to install them yourself! Excellent info in case one falls out or I ever want to save some money and install them myself! Thinking I may have to try as I know I will have extras after she is done with the partial. Thank you! Subscribed as well!
I’m excited to try this DE single braid for me✌🏼
I have had my hair in for a week I did both in my head I just played with different techniques but I would love to get some of the longer ones the double ended technique looks awesome indeed thicker is BETTER ❤
Thank you so much for this video girl ♥️ I’ve been wanting dreads for a loooong time but in my culture our straight long hair is our strength and I couldn’t go all in with real ones but once I found out I can install synthetic ones, I got these beautiful 32” black to blonde ombré ones and needed to know how to install properly and your video helped me so much. Now when the rest of my accent dreads come in I will be installing them 🥰 I did a test run with about 10 blue ones and they looked cute just gave me a little time to experiment, now I know the Color’s and the type I want!! Thanks again beautiful 🥰🖤
❤❤❤❤❤ great clear instructions i am putting mine in today yay
First of all I just wanted to let you and your viewers know something uncommon but useful. I have psoriasis covering my whole scalp and therefore it's not feasible for me to have permanent dreadlocks, I shed too much skin bc I make too many skin cells (5-10x the average person) BUT I have been able to enjoy dreadlocks by braiding in human hair dread extensions. Just in case anyone with psoriasis -or even bad dandruff- was wondering. Maybe someday you'll encounter a client like that Liz? not sure. I hope it's helpful.
Also thanks for showing the difference between the two SE methods. I have always installed mine myself and since I only wear partial (bottom 1/3) dreads I can't see what I'm doing and have always wondered which one I'm doing since it kind of feels like I'm braiding but the braid is very short and scrunched together and you can't see it. After watching you do both methods what I've gathered is that blanket stich is esstially the same weaving pattern as a braid but it is just performed differently. So what I'm doing is between the two, it's not quite as tight as the blanket stich but not as loose as the braid (so to speak).
Love all your videos ❤
¡Me encanta tu trabajo! Saludos desde Argentina! 🇦🇷🧚🏼♀️🤗🌻
Hi!
Thank you for the video.
I am a bit scared to use DE Extensions because of the weight and because I do not know where to put SE and DE dreads.
Your sectioning is so clean, really helpful to see.
I'm trying to get some in for an event coming up! But only for the event... so This is awesome, thank you soo much!
Nice job explaining. Great video.
I wish I could have you do my hair. I haven't had dreads before and am going to get some. Love your work and you're beautiful.
This was perfect!
Great video!!!! Thank you so much! 😊
This was an awesome video!! We just started making synthetic sets to sell, and have had a request to install- I LOVE the blanket stitch, it's beautiful...but the classic three-strand braid looks awesome too- like hair wraps! Thank you so much for sharing!! ❤️
Thank you for this video! I had no idea it was so easy! Could you do a video on string wrapping dreads and or fabric wrapping on dreads??
Best video. Thankyou!!!!
Thank u so much for that, it's so very helpful! 🙏🙏🕉️
This is really cool!! New subscriber! 💐🌷💐
Love your dreads wish I kept mine :(
Your blanket stitch is so even! Mine always twists🙈🤣
Thanks, you are the best 👌 👍
Happy Sunday ya'll!
Very helpful for what I need! My Halloween costume will require dreadlocks and I'm not sure I need or want to keep them long term haha
Thaaaank you soooooo much for the video
**( the second braid style is a herring bone / fishtail)**
I am really curious how to use thread like you mentioned. My products came with thread aaaand rubber bands 😮
❤ question how do I stop my faux hair extentions stop from sliding out? Any tips?
Use standard plait technic. Only last few days before start to slide down.
Can you show how to install on a growing out pixie cut? I have about 3 inches on my sides and back. My top is about 6 inches
Liz!!!🖤🖤 Do you have a video on how to make hair wraps?!🙏
You are beautiful!!
This video was like super informative 👏 thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for the video!! Question does this damage your natural hair?
Is there any way to add hair to wrap around double ended dreads/is it a way to make a double end dreads prelooped??
Hi thanks a lot for all yours vidéos.
Is it possible to permanently install wool dreads ?
And how ?
Best wishes x
Excellent explanation, thank you! I've previously done box braids, but never dread installation and I was curious to understand how the blanket method works. How many dreads would you say cover a whole head? Would about 25-30 DE be enough?
New subscriber love ur channel I have pixie cut and would love a video on how to do them on short hair ❤
what brand of elastics do you use? my clear ones ALWAYS BREAK after a few days
So after installing my de synthetic dreadlocks, using blanket stitch braid, if I leave them in my hair will just dread to them? And I can just keep them in?
Would you do a video on installing permanent loc extensions?
Did you do the video on how to attach to existing ones?
Thank you 🫶🏼
Do regular hair salons install? I cant part my sections evenly even if i have a mirror to hold up to look at the back. And i cant do the braids tight enough at the base for the back ones 🥴
Fantastic video. But HOW can I prevent my own hair from fizzing???
I think you did a great job ❤ it says this was 10ths ago are you still wearing your dreadlocks? Thanks and you did do a great job.
I love braiding in cause it looks cool. The blanket stitch is a little more time consuming.
Not me saying "easy peezy" right before you said "easy peezy" 😂
Is a blanket stitch going to weigh it down more on the scalp then the regular braid would. I feel like the regular braid would distribute it evenly on the loc
Yours are sooooooooooo beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you dont mind me asking. For the extensions. What are good elastics to use? Can i use store bought?? Thank you for the videos!
I'm new to dreadlocks and going to try them on my hair. I do have a question on how to take care of them after they're installed....washing, drying, etc. What's the best way to wash your hair wearing synthetic dreadlocks?
Thank YOu !!!!
Can you demonstrate a few different clip ins
What if you only have hair on the of your head? Would you recommend single or double?
I find my rubber bands often snap.
Do you use a specific brand that is strong and reliable?
I've been using the same technique and I'm having some issues with them slipping off/ away from roots by the very next morning. Any advice as to what I can do to prevent this from happening.....plz any and all advice is 100% welcome....
Can you leave those in if ur wanting dreads?
How many dreads for a full head I ordered se and de dreads
Is there a point when ur hair is to long for it cause I would like to try but my hair is already bum length and I’m growing out an undercut
Do you use human hair? To add length to new loc’s? If so where do you purchase the human hair? Love your videos!
I want “real” dreadlocks in my hair, I kinda have a mohawk and it’s about 6-7 in long. I would like to get long ones half pink and gray. Could u recommend someone in Tucson AZ area?? Thanks, eLsiTa
Can you show how on shorter hair 1-3inch hair growth?
Can you do a video of how to double ended in short hair
How much time each method last?
How can you do this with short hair?
De around crown for more volume yasss
Where do you get your hair from?
Are DE or SE better? I just ordered SE
would you say 40 is enough for full head please?
So if you want dreadlocks you could leave the extensions in indefinitely and they will eventually dread up is this correct ? That sounds way easier to me then sitting in a chair for 8 plus hours having them put dreads in with extensions. I mean if you can install the extensions and then let your hair do it’s own thing that would be great. In my opinion of course.
I feel like it would be too hard to do it in the back not seeing what I'm doing 😩. Does it damage the hair to leave it in a braid like this? I have fine hair ☺️❤️
I'm having a problem with my hair being super frizzy. I've had them in about a week and everyday seems more frizzy. Can anyone help me. Should I redo them. Tips please.
What about installing on short hair?
My hair is super thin I wonder if this would make my hair look thicker
Where can I buy your dreads?
My hair is shorter...I did this but they keep falling out and are super itchy. Any advice?
I’m curious how big a section more precisely and what’s a permanent dreadlock?
OK cool!! But then what? With just a few dreads in your hair and then want to wrap them around my natural hair ponytail, how would you do that?
I want to do temporary to see if I love it then go for the real thing.
I have REALLY thick hair. A lot of it. With a side shave. (a ton of hair even with half of it shaved off..)
Since watching your video i'm questioning double ended due to the volume i already have....
Do you think that with really thick hair having double ended would be a good idea? Or should i stick to single ended? mix of the two?
I never ask advice on youtube videos xD sorry if its intrusive.
I think it is mostly dependant on how your scalp handles pulling. I think getting double ended and doing bigger section will be ultimately better for your hair and scalp comfort.
I need more volume on top! How?
Do you find doing your own that the square bit of hair isn't very square-like? The sectioning is what I struggle with when I can't see lol
