ch527kerosene when I install I wash my hair with shampoo first but not conditioner because my hair is slippery. But I also don't use the braid to be solely responsible for holding the dread in because my braid skills aren't the best. So using a double ended dread I'll prepare normally, split my chunk of hair with the dread as the third piece. But I'll then join the two pieces of my own hair together around the dread and rubber band it in a baby pony tail.(usually I will ponytail the dread into it in the last wrap around so the dread stays in place) this allows me to better manage how tight it is to my head and it helps me avoid those tension bumps. Then I braid it altogether normally. I found this works great especially with slippery hair and a sensitive scalp.
This is easy. Research good dread makers (tyto, sammi, filthy, also Etsy is great in general) find it create a set you like, buy them, put them in, rock the fuck out of them. But would like to see a video too!!
TIP: Install and wear does differ with the type of extension, in my experience. Synthetic dreads allow your natural oils to move down, where wool dreads absorb ALL moisture from your hair and scalp! Don't skip conditioner and moisturizers when installing wool❤
Thanks for this tip. I just bought my first ever set of dreads from Alice dreads on etsy and they're wool and I was just going to use just shampoo. I know this is an old comment I'm replying to lol
Yes wish I knew this before buying and installing wool dreads lol. I am 1 week in and my scalp is so itchy I'm gonna attempt to wash and dry my scalp today any tips on that?
I gave up on ever giving dreads a try years ago, but i've been watching her videos for... *checks watch* .... apparently 4 hours now (lol) aaaand i'm possibly minutes away from shaving a hawk back in and giving all my money to the internet lol
Its crazy, 5-6 years ago you walked me through the door of shaving my head. I did the death hawk a couple times. Now here you are as im wandering into the dread world 💜 much love gorgeous
I'mma try some of that pomade this time around installing. Thanks! I can't believe it has been 2 years since I last installed a set. I never really ever considered using a water based product. I have super slippery oily roots so my hair can slip out of the elastics. I had always washed my hair the day of installing and did it in 2 days to give my arms a break. I have lost a few dreads before at events from my oily hair type actually. I am kind of scared to install on completely bleached hair because of the higher chance of breakage. I haven't tried it. always liked to grow my roots out to a couple of inches so there is some virgin hair strength to aid in case the lightened parts break off.
Actually depends on your hair lol. If your hair is dry use oil based. Once your hair is in the braid it locks in the moisture which is kinda the purpose. You can still wash excess product out later. I would also suggest conditioning over shampooing because shampoos does dry out and damage hair. I always wash my hair before installing braids. You don’t want to lock dirt into hair...once it’s in there it’s harder to get out. If you have naturally greasy hair than water based like you said is better but if your hair is dry and brittle than you need something like coconut oil or simple hair lotion to keep the hair healthy but just a small amount. My friend introduced me to your channel cuz she wanted dreads like yours and I’ve never seen dead installed like the way you do yours lol she wants me try it on her. It different than what I’m used to seeing and as I’ve seen premise dreads it crocheted in. The only other way I’ve seen is braid the hair into the head creating your own dread using braiding hair extensions. Yours is braiding pre dreaded hair into the hair. I like it! It’s the most simple installation I’ve seen! They look amazing too!!! I’m definitely following because your hair looks badass!
I've only installed twice so really don't have a whole lot of experience with it. I have woolies and I have been doing a wet install on just out of the shower hair, no conditioner. I figured the headaches were just from the extra weight considering my neck definitely needs adjusting by a chiropractor and my scalp wasn't complaining unless I got an errant hair stuck in the braid and it was pulling - especially around the ears. Maybe this next time I will do a dry install and try to find that braiding facilitator that you mentioned. Thanks for everything Kero. You have inspired me to finally go for the dreads that I have been wanting for almost 2 decades but was always so scared of doing because of fear of judgement.
Ooh my gosh, what a coincidence! Just yesterday, my mom let me order 4 DE dreads for my hair! I can’t wait, I think I’m an interesting combination: 14, curly hair, figure skater 😂😂😂🤙🏼
question: can you put dreads in wigs? also have you ever seen it done? The reason why I am asking that question is because I lost a lot of my natural hair. Due to autoimmune disorders. I think a couple pencil thick dreads with a bead would look cute one a bob cut wig.
Definitely! It's done very often. People will either do it themselves (buy the extensions, buy a wig, and attach) or some makers do them custom or premade. Dread Knotty, Sweetcaeks, and Dread Addiction are a few I know off the top of my head (all on fb!). Dread wigs are so much fun, I love them!
Thanks for saying so! Bc of your comment I installed adobe audition and learned how to remove background noise. Keep an ear on my next video and let me know how I did!
Any tips on finding someone to install dreads for you? I want dread extensions bad but I'm too nervous and don't think I have the patience to do it on my own
I just started installing dreads, I do like to wash and condition my hair before installing because after I take them out, my hair is still a little greasy despite washing with the extensions in. Also I’ve bleached my hair in the past so my ends are pretty dry so I condition it. But I don’t condition it while my hair has the extensions in because I’m afraid of build up.
I get so excited when I see you posting more. I’ve pretty much learned most of everything I know about synths through your content or videos you recommended. Thanks for being so awesome :)
4 years late to the party but just came across your videos while looking into dreadlock extensions since I'm getting my first set installed at the end of the month. Your videos have been so helpful on learning everything before going through this process.
Off topic but I'd love to hear your experience! What is the texture of dreads "supposed" to feel like? I got my first ever set of synthetic dreads recently and was quite distressed when I realized how rough and scratchy they felt (and I didn't get random cheap stuff from eBay or whatever, I got them from a fairly well-renowned seller with excellent reviews) so now I'm wondering if they're meant to be like that?? Also, are wool dreads softer? I've been considering getting some of those.
KreeZafi it is still a type of plastic you're installing into your hair. So yes, it will still feel scratchy. I have heard of people using clothe softener to 'soften' dreads, but have never tried it myself. Also, yes, wool dreads are softer, but do realise that they will soak up a lot more water and they will feel extremely heavy when you are showering.
@@sydnigreenfield2344 I actually ended up buying a wool set and they feel so much nicer!! Havent installed them yet but just feeling them out of the package I already prefer them. They actually look nicer too!
Definitely! As for now, I'll tell you I hand wash with laundry detergent in cool to warm water then hang dry. Some people use shampoo, and I've even seen some people use body wash. Others wash their extensions in the washing machine, in a garment bag, on gentle cycle cold water.
I shampoo, condition, dry and straighten and then wait a couple of hours or a day before a new install just because it makes my head feel so light and free. Washing with the extensions in is something I've fallen in love with, idk I think its weird. Using a product is easier for me because my hair is ridiculously soft so braiding it without anything literally irks my soul. But Duude I fricken love your channel, the reason I tried extensions in the first place and I love them. Stay awesome!
I did my own install of yarn box braids with latch hooked fillers... I did mine on clean hair washed with Head and Shoulders. then I lightly blowdried it and went to bed. the next day I braided it with Got2b ultra glued invincible styling gel and water. I use 2 pieces of yarn with centers looped around eachother, took about 1" sections split in half and wrapped the yarn around on section and started to braid with 2 hair sections and 1 yarn section until there was about 1.5" left and then added yarn to each section from the 4 strand yarn section. I wrapped the yarn around the hair as ai braided the ends of my hair then finished off the braid with just the 4 strands of yarn. my pieces were 18 ". I got 4 rows or 4 braids for 16 braids, then went back through with yarn and added the rest of the yarn to the root sections of each braid, now most have 1 with hair and 2 just yarn for 42 braids in total on the top of my head braided to the left. my hair cut is a crown long rest shaved look.. Easier to take care of than your cut. I love your cut but I couldn't do It myself
my hair is almost straight, so it has almost no friction to hold on to the yarn. so I use the got2b glued to hold on , so there is less slippage in the beginning
from my expierience this last time... do not install hair/yarn/dreads when you are in pain! my install is a bit messy, just cause I wanted to Just Get It Done!so the transition from hair to yarn has hairs sticking out... eek!
This just makes me want to put my dreads back in :,) What I did was pretty much the same, I washed my har the day before (deep conditionned them too) and before installing them I did straighten them as they are quite curly. I don't think I used any product to help braiding, but I guess it can definitly help.. Maybe another do for beginners: be patient and take your time, I spend 4 hours installing a full-head set but it lasted for quite a while, so it's worth your time
Your face is so attractive , your video was in my feed randomly and I keep watching it again and again .... I had no plan or intrested in dreadlocks , but now , I had made wool dreads at home and attached it on my hair . Again..... You are sooooo beautiful 😍
Could you possibly do a tutorial on how to install SE dreads??? I know it’s not your normal style but I really wanna try SE’s but I can’t find a good tutorial on how to install them that doesn’t look blatantly obvious that they’ve braided in their dreads. Please help! Thank you!
I currently have crocheted dreads installed, DE ones. But I'm co aider Turing them inte SE. My question is, are 25 DE dreads 50cm long installed less comfortable then 25 SE dreads 100 cm long? I do understand the weight will be the same. I never worn SE dreads but I feel DE is to much volume for my undercut, I struggle to enjoy them at the moment. Want to add my dreads feels rather stiff. I've done updo's, and all sorts and they still feel stiff
Question: How long of a break between installs? I have my first set in, I'm on week 3 and I love them so much I don't want to go without them for even one day! But I did them too tight-I got sores on my head. AND I can see along the front of my hairline that a ton of har actually did rip right TF out -.- I did it on dry hair, and I used some garbage BedHead product--and way too much of it on each braid... So I have my Giovanni's in hand for my next install. Thank you so much for all your awesome videos I've watched a couple of them several times. XOXOXO
I've been watching you for a few years now and I'm about to get synthetic dreads for the first time pretty soon, but I was wondering what jobs would allow you/be chill about this kind of hair style?
Really Boring honestly just depends on the boss. For example I work at an animal hospital and my boss doesn't care about tattoos, piercings, or any type/color hair. But other animal hospitals would never allow their employees to look like me and some of the other co-workers. While looking for a job look at the employees already working there. Do any have odd color hair, piercings, highly visible tattoos? If so apply, if not keep looking (or apply anyway and hope for the best).
I know this a while back but I'm going to be trying dreads next wk. A little nervous as I'm not too sure how I'll look in them but, I'm watching this first, lol. Your my influence for trying so I've been watching your clips for the last wk lol. Any tips for a first timer from anyone are much welcome!!!! XxX
Did you get any tips? I have had mine for a week. The first few days had a headache but that subsided. But my major issue in my scalp is so so so itchy. I'm gonna wash it today and 🤞 it stops itching lol.
hey , Ive made synthetic dreadlock extensions (with kanekalon ) . My hair wasn't dreaded .I put a salt spray to add texture to my hair , I backcombed my hair a little and I croched (crocheted ?) the extensions into my hair. I've had them for about 5 weeks and they're doing great ( there is loose hair sticking out but I crochet it about once/twice a week) I wanna keep the extensions as long as I can. I want my roots to lock up by their own . They already started a little .Do you think it will work? thank you
What is the best hair length to install? I have relatively short hair, it's kinda like a short A line bob kinda thing but I really want to do dreads. I'm growing my hair out but I just want to know if some hair is too short or what... I hope I phrased this question right..
Great video as always ☺ and I definately think I'll be buying that product for my next install as my hair is quite fine and when hubby installs I easily get fly always and generally it's a pain. Can I ask a question? Can you recommend which bands to buy for install? I have tried several now including the often recommended rubber bands and with my current install so many keep snapping and breaking. I've lost a lot and obviously it's annoying. Is there any that are better to buy than others? I've seen some lovely packs of different colours I.e not black or brown that would camouflage with my dreads so much better but I don't think they are 100% rubber bands yet I'm sure I've seen ones like this used. I love the idea of getting some but I also don't want bands that break so easily. The rubber ones I've used for this install just come out, like I'll wake up and keep finding broken bands in my bed. So yeah any advice on this would be fab! By the way your video on how many dreads needed was so helpful and confirmed to me I was using the right amount. Luckily seeing that and my current install now meant I had enough time to re-adjust the number of dreads I ordered with Tyto Dreads (my first order with her) so a huge thank you!
I was wondering about maybe using a keratin oil or some leave in condition to make your hair have the damp effect instead of having your hair wet.. Would your still get the clean install look without the damage?
Thanks for this video i just ordered my very first set from Peacock Dreams I am very excited I can not wait till they are in its gonna cover my hole head so I am very excited also nurvis any tips on how to wear them while you sleep for a beginner?
How do you get your dreads to lay so nicely? Since I found your channel I have been trying out some different wool dreads and they never lay as good as yours..
I finally received my woolies in the mail and had someone install them for me. (wish I would of seen your videos to do myself and save some money) she did a different method tho by sectioning my hair into 4 parts, (I only have the top hawk) braided my hair tight I mean Tight to my head (I am definetly tender headed) then looping the dread through the braid. Getting off subject... Anyway my question is does anyone have tips for a first timer with a itchy scalp? I have never had my scalp itch so much and going insane. I have added oil to my scalp trying to moisturize it (since I now know woolies will depleat the natural oils.) but it has not helped lol. Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, A very itchy fan 😂
Shrinkage is stronger in curly hair, so the first time you wash your head, your straightned hair will shrink, snap and break a lot. Also, if your hair is not healthy, it will become elastic and applying tension will turn your curl pattern into a hot mess. Curly hair will hold your extensions better than straight hair. Just use your natural texture and remember to totally detangle each section before installing.
I started watching when I got dreads and drew inspiration but now after a couple months of no dreads im still here and watching every video... high key think im crushing on Kero 🤔
So I’ve installed mine by doing the attachment by putting the dread in the middle of 2 strands and before braiding I start the same way you would with tying a shoe before you make the loop. I haven’t noticed damage, breakage, or matting when removing the dreads. Do you think it’s still ok to do?
Hey just a quick question... I just put in synth dreads yesterday and I am wondering how to you wear them for sleeping? I wrapped mine up in a scarf and I have massive neck pain this morning!!! Any tips for a no0b?
i realize this is an older video, but those who have done both synth. and Wool, if i naturally have a super oily scalp, would wool be a better option for me to lessen the need for a wash as often?
You have explained that amazingly and exactly how I feel at 40 years old when it comes to my girls I will teach them exactly that it is their choice as long as they understand and know the risks I will allow them to make whatever decision they want but they do need to understand 1st 👍 and not yet They are both only 6 I already know that they are just like millions so will feel that I won't have a choice either way anyway 🤣❤
So I watched a bunch of videos from the beginning when u did it on wet hair so I'm glad I found this. I have super thick hair and im going too try to install my dreads this weekend, do you think I should start the same you do or more towards the bottom (im almost ready too shave underneath lol) I have no one too help me so I appreciate your videos ☺
do you and can you soak your synthetic hair in acv before installation, I have sensitive skin and I have heard Kenekalon has chemicals that can cause bad skin reactions ?
Hey it’s not a do or do not question, but how do you know if you’re look good in dreads. I have always wanted to, but to scared it will look bad. If I regret it, can I take it out soon after? Thanks for reading and if you can’t/ don’t answer I understand.
TheRemainingPiece hey, from experience, just go for it! If it makes you happy it'll look good! Plus you could put them in and take them out right after if you don't like them. It's just time consuming :)
Kerosene, what type of hair do you have? Did you read about what hair types can use coconut oil? You and I have a very similar hair type, texture and damage (at least what I can see) but I reciently tried coconut oil and it dried out and tangled my hair. I've been searching on the internet and it says it's not good for all hairtypes because of protein.
I do have a question, I don't have a lot of money so I heard you could make some outta yarn... Is there any difference like washing experience wise? Would it still be the same process for care instalment etc.?
You can make your own pretty easily with just buying a wool! There are many videos on how to do that and its easy for beginners. If you need any help after wtching those videos tho just hmu on ig @kaja_sa_mi_toci and I will try to help you as much as I can 😄
Really awesome video. I will get my dreads installed by someone who does it kinda as a job so she should know what to do. I will suggest her this product :o
I tried the Giovanni hairgel and maybe you install differently and ofc you have more experience in dreads, but for me it didn’t work. The dreads didn’t stay and always slipped off, we just used water then
*HELP!!!* I installed my de dreads for the first time using the methods you discussed. I had them in for about 2 months, and when I took them out, my roots were left matted in huge clumps around my head. Now my hair is super thin due to cutting knots out, so I wanna give my dreads another try, this time with minimal damage. Can anyone tell me why this happened/how I can prevent matted hair?
I have a sidecut and I'm not sure how to section off my hair to install them. Does anybody have tips? Do you think you'll make a video on this one day? I usually sweep my hair to the side that doesn't have the sidecut

I just ordered my first set of dreads from Peacock Dreams and I'm so excited to get them !!
I had no idea what were you saying tbh,i just like hearing your voice :)
Awesome video as always
This just makes me want to put my dreads back in :,)
What I did was pretty much the same, I washed my har the day before (deep conditionned them too) and before installing them I did straighten them as they are quite curly. I don't think I used any product to help braiding, but I guess it can definitly help.. Maybe another do for beginners: be patient and take your time, I spend 4 hours installing a full-head set but it lasted for quite a while, so it's worth your time
Are any of the materials used for synthetic dreads less damaging to your natural hair than the others?
Happy birthdayyy (: And thank you for this video! Will install new dreads next week :D
Please could you make a video on sectioning your hair for dreads..
Yes! I tried filming it twice already but couldn't get it right. I'll be able to try again sometime next week!
yes please!!! I have very short hair and i dont know if i'll be able to section my hair and put the dreads in hahahah
AND I can see along the front of my hairline that a ton of har actually did rip right TF out -.-
I did it on dry hair, and I used some garbage BedHead product--and way too much of it on each braid...
They already started a little .Do you think it will work? thank you
I’m getting ready to install my first set of dread extensions to be a trial run to decide if I go permanent or not
What is the best hair length to install? I have relatively short hair, it's kinda like a short A line bob kinda thing but I really want to do dreads. I'm growing my hair out but I just want to know if some hair is too short or what... I hope I phrased this question right..
I'm in love with your freckles 😍
Just started my dreads. I'm about 4 days with them now. Love em. But wish I could install extensions for the time being
Great video as always ☺ and I definately think I'll be buying that product for my next install as my hair is quite fine and when hubby installs I easily get fly always and generally it's a pain.
Should you use beeswax for flyaways or when they get dry
I was wondering about maybe using a keratin oil or some leave in condition to make your hair have the damp effect instead of having your hair wet.. Would your still get the clean install look without the damage?
Probably an odd question....but I have a set of dreads that I won’t ever wear again, is there a site that I might be able to list them on??
Can I ask about how you apply them at the top and have them look natural and not tight and like Preditor... 😅
Wondering your thoughts on best way to section hair with shaved sides. Thank you
Thanks for this video i just ordered my very first set from Peacock Dreams I am very excited I can not wait till they are in its gonna cover my hole head so I am very excited also nurvis any tips on how to wear them while you sleep for a beginner?
Thank you,
A very itchy fan 😂
Thanks
I usually put my dreads like dreadfalls on washed hair but when i have more time i will install them
Do you recommend straightening super curly hair before installs? Or would that just cause too much damage to my hair similar to installing wet?
Shrinkage is stronger in curly hair, so the first time you wash your head, your straightned hair will shrink, snap and break a lot. Also, if your hair is not healthy, it will become elastic and applying tension will turn your curl pattern into a hot mess. Curly hair will hold your extensions better than straight hair. Just use your natural texture and remember to totally detangle each section before installing.
huog thank you
I started watching when I got dreads and drew inspiration but now after a couple months of no dreads im still here and watching every video... high key think im crushing on Kero 🤔
I mean - who isn't? :D
Same...
I'm going in to weeks to get my dreads back in and I can't wait 😊
What elastics do you use? My daughter just had hers done by a professional and they elastics started to break less than 24hrs?
Do u wash ur hair with synthetic extensions in?
So can I use like a gel consistency to help braid in the dread extensions I have a bunch of fly aways 😬
Where can I purchase the Giovanni Wicked Texture from??? Can you send me a link??
I want to know how to get rid of the prickly part of the dreads
YES GIRL YOU WEAR THOSE DREADLOCKS
Ty for this new fan here hav a blessed one sis ❤
when you condition your hair with dread extenstions,do you just wash your hair without them or no?
You’re so gorgeous and this is so incredibly helpful thank you
I wonder if rubbing chalk into your hair and then rinsing it out, would that work as alternative? Just a curiosity thing.
very good, and beautiful hair
Hey it’s not a do or do not question, but how do you know if you’re look good in dreads. I have always wanted to, but to scared it will look bad. If I regret it, can I take it out soon after? Thanks for reading and if you can’t/ don’t answer I understand.
TheRemainingPiece her extensions are wool/synthetic dreads.
her hair is braided around the lock, so you can remove them at anytime.
TheRemainingPiece hey, from experience, just go for it! If it makes you happy it'll look good! Plus you could put them in and take them out right after if you don't like them. It's just time consuming :)
Do you have a recommendation for any other cream that Giovani is out of stock everywhere.
Kerosene, what type of hair do you have? Did you read about what hair types can use coconut oil? You and I have a very similar hair type, texture and damage (at least what I can see) but I reciently tried coconut oil and it dried out and tangled my hair. I've been searching on the internet and it says it's not good for all hairtypes because of protein.
what tips do you have for fly away hairs ,? yu know those loose hair ends at the end of the braids? :)
you sound like a freaking scientist
I do have a question, I don't have a lot of money so I heard you could make some outta yarn... Is there any difference like washing experience wise? Would it still be the same process for care instalment etc.?
I read that yarn takes longer to dry, and if it doesnt dry right it can smell like "wet dog" idk ahaha
What about if you wet your hair and not do it as tight? or just wet the ends? and not the root?
How long are your dreads. I have semi the style you do. Shaved on both sides and short ish. Almost touching shoulders. I love the length of yours.
I installed on wet hair in 2018 and I got scabs all over my head. 😅 I was also got 18in long dreads put in my 3 in hair.
Greats advice miss. Thank you so much! 🙏❤️
Do you have any recommendations for affordable dreads?? I didn’t realize how expensive they would be getting into this lol
You can make your own pretty easily with just buying a wool! There are many videos on how to do that and its easy for beginners. If you need any help after wtching those videos tho just hmu on ig @kaja_sa_mi_toci and I will try to help you as much as I can 😄
Good tips, thanks for the tips
kyuuto kurai kito me entendes soy argentina😅
You're so pretty and rocking those dreads ❤
Really awesome video. I will get my dreads installed by someone who does it kinda as a job so she should know what to do. I will suggest her this product :o
You are super entertaining...lol, thanks for sharing this info:)
Is there a way to loosen the dread once it’s already in?
I tried the Giovanni hairgel and maybe you install differently and ofc you have more experience in dreads, but for me it didn’t work. The dreads didn’t stay and always slipped off, we just used water then
You are a very good speaker!!💖😁😊
Thank you!
great video! keep uploading :)
Hey this is gonna be my first dreadlocks and my hair has lots and thick how many dreadlocks do I have to used I only have 5 dreadlocks off of wish
Would you ever do rainbow dreads?
*HELP!!!* I installed my de dreads for the first time using the methods you discussed. I had them in for about 2 months, and when I took them out, my roots were left matted in huge clumps around my head. Now my hair is super thin due to cutting knots out, so I wanna give my dreads another try, this time with minimal damage. Can anyone tell me why this happened/how I can prevent matted hair?
I have a sidecut and I'm not sure how to section off my hair to install them. Does anybody have tips? Do you think you'll make a video on this one day? I usually sweep my hair to the side that doesn't have the sidecut
so i just installed my SE dreads and they seem stiff, how can i fix that???
OMG I need to meet you and just talk about dreads all day lol
Great info🦋
Can you install deadlock extensions onto a wig?
your nose shape is so beautiful
