I have had my first set in for a week now and I can’t figure out why I didn’t do this sooner! My natural hair is so fine and thin and I have always hated it. These give me so much confidence and I can do so many new hairstyles now. I’m in LOVE with mine. I’m middle aged and I think this is definitely my mid-life crisis look but I seriously don’t care what anyone thinks. 😂 Thank you for all tips!
Jist turned 41 in nov. I'm getting mines at the end of April this yr. Also thin hair too. I plan to keep them until I'm 50. My personal reasons and goal lol.
I just purchased my first set of DE's!! I am so excited so I am watching as many videos as I can to learn about how to care for them... my greatest concern is ppl being rude about them.. I've seen a lot of people getting crapped but also... whatever... I am beyond excited for them!!
Good! You should be excited!! 🔥🔥🔥 I need to put a video out of this! Don’t be afraid of other people opinions ❤️ if your experience is anything like mine, people will only say nice things about them in real life (it’s the internet that people can get shady) But at the end of the day it’s how they make YOU feel that’s important 🥰 Let me know once you’ve got them!!!
Hi Gal, I'm 60 and JUST DID MY OWN MICRO Braided dreads!! NO HELP....took me 4 days! Ugggh but, they make me look 15+ years younger!!!!!! Hubby likes to I think?!! But, everything you said is true, true, true AND Hopefully people watch your video b4 they do theirs!! Unfortunately, I found it after I was done...actually the morning after, boo hoo.....but, you definitely gave me tips for my next set and I can't wait to redo them. I REALLY WANTED EXACTLY what you have in however, I couldn't afford them 😟😭😟. Same color, length, etc!! I WISH I knew someone who would of given me their old set!! Finally, thank you, thank you, thank you for your lovely video!! Yjust ADORABLE 💖
Isn’t it wild how much dreads can change up your whole look?? Haha I love it! I’m so glad you got them in! I’m so happy my video was helpful! If you ever have specific questions feel free to ask away and I would love to try to make a video explaining:) I have heard of a massive market for used high end dreads so don’t give up! Haha but I’m sure yours look absolutely amazing! ❤️❤️❤️ thanks love!
@@nicolepoulton Hey Nicole Hope all GOOD In your life!! Your so sweet for chatting back with me!! There finally done but I'm not super happy Because, I haven't been able to figure out just how to put MY VER, VERY SHORT Hair into them!! HELP, PLUS, they feel SO THIN and look thin on my head but, thats probably because I bought very thin micro braids and I think they're for Black hair, and 1 more thing they're very short....ugggh help again, I hate the thought of having to redo them but, that might b my only option!! I do feel wayyyy younger with them in tho. Would you please send me your # if I send you mine. I hate, hate txting.texting.. Here's mine 910 368 6854. @@gizmogizmo1646 YAY!!! Congratulations!im interested to know when they will arrive!? they definitely care ❤️ I think to get the box you have to order like 9 packs or something like that? I’m not positive. I would send them a DM on Instagram too maybe? I know they are growing like crazy right now so it could take them a hot minute to respond.
@@nicolepoulton Thanks Nicci, Yea, I figure 48-72 hours hopefully no longer. I'm very excited and anxious to get them but, I know already I might have to wait 2 months at least! I'll send you a now pic SOON of the cheap ones I put in THEN one of the GOOD ONES!! lol
I’m getting synthetic dreads very soon and wanted to know more about them... this video was JUST WHAT I NEEDED!!! The pros and cons list was so helpful and you seem just so happy and like such a good soul. Thanks for taking time to make this vid🤙🤙💗 You look GREAT in your dreads 🤩
@@nicolepoulton nooo, sorry, I forgot about dry shampoo 😆 It’s liquid shampoo you spray on your scalp and dreads to decrease the number of actual shampoos with scrubbing. I think it’s also called dread refresher.
I love the way your describing the way they made tou feel. I just got them in for first time 3 months ago, from that day i felt like different person, from someone with little or no confidence to wanting to start my life again properly. So i get you. X
My pros are confidence booster! It has made me feel so good about myself. I'm also growing out a pixie and its in the awkward stage lol so this helps keep my hair healthy and allow it to grow. It grows so much in just 4 week. I only keep mine in for 4-6 weeks. take a break for a few days then have them reinstalled. my only con I really have is the tension bumps. it itches so bad. My biggest piece of advice would to be make sure you're getting good quality dreads. cheap ones can cause irritation also to your scalp. Love your content!
I’m so glad you’re loving your dreads! The confidence boost is UNMATCHED!! When it comes to your tension bumps, try braiding the dreads in a bit looser. That might help ease the tension a bit. When I first installed mine I braided them in way too tight and the tension bumps were a nightmare! Lol I definitely agree to investing in a good set! It makes all the difference! I’m so glad you enjoy my videos! thank you so much for watching!! ❤️ you’re the best!
@@nicolepoulton I have a stylist install them, my grown out pixie is still short in the back so I think those little hairs are what caused my issues. I lasted 3 weeks lol decided to take these out and give my head a break and I'll go back in a week or two and have them reinstalled.
@@AshleyBowditch Hello, my friend, I am a manufacturer specializing in dreadlocks. We launch a new dreadlocks and give them to you for free. I just hope to get your comments. Thank you and have a nice day.
This summarized my pros and cons with synthetic dreads so well! My biggest con is how sensitive my head is. My first install was not overly tight, just average and it hurt so bad. I've had to learn how to section my hair in larger pieces without it looking too 'gappy'. I also install mine pretty loose to help with the discomfort but then they only last a week before they start slipping down like crazy. I actually have yet to make it past 8 days before I have to redo the majority of them!
Hi could you even do a video of you reinstalling your dreads? I just ordered some and i love the way yours sits and is parted but i can’t find any videos on how to get that look!
Yay!! Install days are always exciting!! I’m so glad you’re here to join the fun! 🥳😂 let me know if you e got any question along your journey, I’d love to help you in any way I can!! ❤️
Hello, my friend, I am a manufacturer specializing in dreadlocks. We launch a new dreadlocks and give them to you for free. I just hope to get your comments. Thank you and have a nice day.
I’m getting my first set of synthetics installed tomorrow. I had a pixie cut super short less than a year ago, now it is about seven or 8 inches long but I hate the way that it is growing out. And I have been so hyped on putting in extension dreads that I bought all of the hair and it took me three months to create a full set for myself. Burgundy that hombres into a bright cherry red. I’m going to keep my left side shave because I love it and why not? But I am excited to put in all of them. I made a total of 50. My hair is naturally thin but I have a lot of it so I will see how it goes tomorrow lol
This video was so helpful! I just turned 58 yrs old and am about to get my first set of dreadlock extensions. My question is should I install them prior to the cruise we are taking in just 5 days or wait until after? Watching your video made me realize they may not be very comfortable to wear right away.
How was your cruise?!?! sorry I didnt get to your comment in time! im curious to know what you decided! I know it's late now, but for me it would depend on how bad I wanted my dreads in the pictures haha it can be a bit challenging trying to sleep and shower with the dreads when first getting used to them so making the transition at home might be easier BUT having them in for the trip would mean less time doing your hair each day! haha and awesome pics!
I’m ordered and currently waiting on my DH dreads! Cannot wait and nervous about the getting use to part. But I’m all in lol. Thank you for sharing your experience with them.
I had my synthetics in for 8 years. No dying my hair, no heat, my hair was SO healthy! Two cons: my fav beanies didnt fit my head.. and when I eventually took them out, I was so sad I had no hair 🤣😭 I'm getting back to dreads.
This video is two years old so I hope you are still wearing dreads. I've had my own natural locs for 15 months, but I only have 27 and I want to add some volume and a little length to my overall look. So I ordered ten doubles that should arrive in a couple days. Of course I'll have to install mine with elastics at least to begin with. After the first grow out I might try sewing them in place, but the clear elastics should be fine. I appreciate your insights and tips in sharing your experiences in your loc journey!
Nice to see your video, i get my first synthetic dreads set tommorow, really enthousiastic….. i already buyed a shower cap And a silk Sleeping net, some bandana’s and scarfs, and some accesoires (beads) to put into the dreads
I used to have curly hair that went down below my waist before I got dreads, they shank up to my chin in three months time and were kind of a nightmare for me to maintain in the first few months. Keeping the sections separated, ECT. Just hurt and they didn't look how I wanted them to sometimes (kind of a love/hate relationship) so I finally just cut them off. I had never had really short hair before and now that it's shoulder length I really miss my long curly hair and I miss my dreads and the length they had in the beginning. I made my own synthetic dreads so I can enjoy the best of both worlds without the hassle of maintenance while my hair grows back out to it's former length.
WOW! that's awesome you made your own dread extensions! I have always wanted long hair but for some reason, I haven't been able to grow it past my shoulders, like ever. It has been awesome having the dreads so I have have long hair whenever!
I have had dreads now for over 5 yrs -- they are permanent -- human hair is much kinder on your scalp -- some great tutorials on here about making them and doing your own install -- Human hair is defo not as heavy as synthetic hair -- I started out with the braid in's back in the day for me it is much easier having regular dreads --
My brother has real ones and they seem a lot easier to maintain! Haha I must just have commitment issues 😅🤣 I can’t get myself to go all in and dread my real hair. Maybe one day! I have heard of so many people making their own! It seems like fun to do it that way too! :)
You did a really great job and whoever made those dreads those are nice quality high-end dreads at least they look like it. I just ordered some off of Amazon. We will see it will be my first time installing and I have short hair so I’m a little nervous I’m gonna go to Michael’s and buy some yarn just in case and some other doodads and make it fun. I’m great with a crochet hook and the crochet extensions like the the cell multicolored with the wrap and all that stuff that’s an easy breezy thing for me, and then you can actually attach them With a wig clip so you don’t have to always have the fancy-schmancy ones and you can just add one here or there may be 4566 probably just for fun I don’t know but yeah your dreads look amazing
How did your doodads turn out? Did you add accessories to your dreads yet?? I went to michaels and found come really cute beads and wire that I added it but it was kinda hard to sleep with those lol My dreads are made from dreadfull hippie! They are for real the nicest dreads ever! They are the last set I’ll ever need to buy! I cannot recommend them more! ❤️
Hi,thanks for the wonderful information. One this how do we wash our hair with shampoo, do we or we don't ever? And can we do root touch up with the dreads on on the grey hair ? If at all we can ???😅
Okay so I just put mine in a few days ago and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one struggling to sleep, the weight and the headaches haha I’m glad I’ll get used to it, this video saved me from taking them out and giving up. Thank you! Also one thing I learned is please please do small sections, don’t do tiny sections, but get as much hair as there is in the thickness of the extension and take your time! Mine took me 4 hours to put in but it’s worth it!
Questions please: Where did you purchase yours? Can you dye your roots if your hair is colored? What cleaning products do you use for them and how often do you wash your hair? What’s the process of washing your hair like? How often do you take them out and re tie at the top root? Did you braid them in or…? How long was your hair when you did the extensions and did you do them yourself? Thanks so much!!! They’re super cute on you and look well kept!
I’ll do my best to answer all of these! Haha •purchased at dreadful hippie •if you wanted to dye your roots, it would be best to take the dreads out :) •I use redkin shampoo ONLY! conditioner will cause build up and should be avoided :) I was my hair about once a week. I’ll deep wash the dreads every time I move them up (6weeks ish) •washing my hair is normal. I focus on washing my roots/ my scalp really well. The dreads get very heavy so I just keep the weight on my shoulders. •I do full move ups every 6-8 weeks but I’ll touch up my roots as needed (sometimes 1 week sometimes 4. Depends on how well I braided it in haha) •I use a three strand braid to install them :) •when I first installed them my hair was to my CHIN! So short! 6 months later, my hair is to my shoulders :) •I am cheap haha so I always install myself! It was hard the first 3 times but now it’s very easy :) Maybe I’ll make a video of how I was them!??
@@nicolepoulton thanks so much for all the info! I didn’t expect to get a reply so that’s so helpful! I’d love a washing video! Your dread videos are very helpful so far. @@deminoelmorrinwilcox9091 no problem! I’m happy to help! Let me know if there are any other videos you would find helpful! :) I trying my best to prioritize recording videos that people ask for :)
I have viewed quite a lot on dreads & your presentation was outstanding! Honest & informative. Just received my 1st sets of synthetic SE dreads. Hoping I succeed with self installation🙏🏽
I’ve both side and back of my head shaved and thought about having dreads just in the top! I’ve been looking at thin single dreads but you’ve made me think maybe using double dreads would be easy for me to install! Have you tried single dreads? P.s loved the video on installation and this pros and cons one 🤙🏻
Loved your video! I just had my first set installed for 5 weeks and then removed myself. I like that you touched on the maturing process because it sucks and most of us consumers don't know until it starts to happen and you're like oh no! Lol. I only have the 5 weeks on mine so a bit longer until mine start to look decent. Yours look great!
Hi Nicole, I want to say that you're full of life, and it's a delight to watch your videos. Thank you so much. You've talked about the minimum hair length. My question is, what's the maximum hair length that you recommend? ❤
It’s the sleeping aspect that stops me having them, I have insomnia and pain anyway and struggle with sleeping, and I suspected these would be an issue. Thank you!
It's not an issue she just has no idea what she's talking about because she installed them without any research. Wear a silk bonnet to sleep. The amount of misinfo and ignorance in this video is astounding.
Sleeping was for sure a challenge when I first had them in because it just felt so weird on my head and my scalp was so sensitive. Now, I sleep like a baby 6 months in. It’s definitely something to get used to and you can always to partials if you really wanted some time with dreads :)
@hogsqueal you are so right! I did ZERO research before I bought mine! Haha I just full on jumped into the deep end and I’m learning on the backside :) This video is based on my personal experience and in no way am I a dread master :) it sounds like you’ve got the sleeping down with the silk bonnet! I’ll have to give that a try! :)
It's a big messy bun with a super-sized hair tie wrapped once with a big bonnet to hold it in to sleep. Mine are thicker and never had an issue sleeping. Tension is all about how you install. Mine have never been heavy or any pain....same bun for showering and my sleeping bonnet looks close to your shower cap lol
You know, you are the third person to suggest a bonnet to sleep! I have got to get one! If you like the one you have, what brand is it?/ where did you get it?? :) I def think my pain/ tension bumps were from how I installed them that first time. I was so scared they were going to fall out I braided them suuuuuuper tight! (My bad! Hahah)
@@nicolepoulton I don't know what brand I have but I love it....I bought it at my local beauty supply even my husband wants one 😂 but it's the one with the wide fitted elastic band around the head and the bonnet is just like a big balloon so all your hair can fit inside. It's comfortable and doesn't come off and always make sure it's silk or satin ❤️
I've been doing box braids every three months for about a decade. They did a great job installing them, and you're right about the confidence and compliments and conversation starting, but I can't afford box braids in this economy anymore, so I've gotten the dred extensions... I tried to install them already, but it looked terrible, especially compared to the professionally installed box braids. But I think I only had 20 of them, and I don't think I put enough time into sectioning them. I only wore them like that for a couple days. I got a new pack, so I'll have 30 strands, and if I use all of them, and be hyper vigilant about the sections, like you explained I. Your other video, I think they'll be ok... I'll just take my time, and I love these informative videos, and I've been paying attention! Hopefully, my second attempt will go better, and it will look more like yours, or ...at least maybe halfway similar to when I had the box braids... Wish me luck!
Hey I'm new to you and dreads I'm waiting for them to come in!!! Eeeeeek I'm excited for this jouney!! My hair sucked long and I look like a boy with short!!! I connected with utoday I love your hair!!!❤
My hair has always been a struggle but these dreads have for real changed everything for me! I’m so glad you’re here and you’re getting started on this journey!! Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to help out! 🥰
8:00 i got my dreads 1,5 week ago and i’m working as a mechanical engineer and i must put my dreads up because its to dangerous to habe them down do i needed to make a massive bun since day one. for me its really easy to make the bun and i’m kinda used to it lol
I just got my own and find that putting them in on my own is harder than expected but maybe I’m just a perfectionist idk. And I order 45 instead of the typical 60 she usually recommends because I have thinner hair and I didn’t want to be completely caught off guard with so much at once and when I was installing myself , I couldn’t see how I would use all 45 going off of the videos I’ve watched online and the sectioning used. Any advice would be great!
I have very fine thin hair. It’s shoulder length but it’s seems stringy. I’ve wanted long hair for so long and I think this is the answer. I’m just afraid they’ll pull my hair out or break off. This video helped and I think I’m going to do it. I wish I could find photos of people with thin fine hair before and after videos or pics 🤔 This was a great video Thank you
Hello my name is leaette and I am part of music scene culture. My hair is extremely important to me but as I’ve gotten older my hair has changed texture and gotten grey. I tried to get my hair pink and bleached it a few times and it turned green and I got scared and chopped my waist length hair off chunk by chunk. Now my hair is about 3 inches long and super super ugly and I e been so depressed. I just purchased fake hair and was trying to dred the hair myself and having not a good time doing it. Would you suggest purchasing the dreds already made?
You just helped me realize that in HS I wasn’t burning my scalp with bleach like I thought 😂 the bumps on my scalp were from teasing it and it pulling on my scalp 😅😂
I had a few that started with the loose ends but I got tired of brushing the ends out every night and they dreaded on their own! Haha I love the look of them though when they were loose :) I have blonde, sandy blonde and sandy blonde melt in a mix of regular and dainty dreads!
Hi! I I don’t have dreads atm, but have wanted them for a long time. I’m thinking of going the synthetic route just to see how I like it. How bad is the damage (if any) once the extensions are removed?
Hello, i have a question😊 (Hope my english is good enough to explane well) My longest natural hair is hip long. The dreads i bought are only 60cm long. Is this possible at all? Or do i have to cut my hair or order longer ones? Or is there maybe another technique to install them? Thank you in advance🌸
Is it better to get a cheap set first to make sure I like them? Or should I just go with dreadfulhippie first? I love theirs but I’m afraid I’m not confident enough to pull them off, I’ve wanted dreads since I was 15 and now I’m almost 40, but people talk crap 😅 I’m not sure if I can tune them out or not
The decision is yours! You might not like the quality of the cheap ones so I personally think, buy nice and buy once vs trying a few out. But totally up to you!
Ya that would just be a parting issue. The nice thing about that is how fixable it is! Haha when it’s time to move them up, have your daughter section it off a bit more evenly. Would a sectioning tutorial be helpful for you, you think? :)
I’ve been shopping around for a full set to have installed. Where did you get your set at? And how many did you have put in, they look full and great!!
My set is from dreadful hippie! I bought 9 packs of 5 (40 dreads) but I only had 36 installed! I really love my set and would highly recommend the same brand!
@@nicolepoulton They REALLY look incredible! I made my own DE set, but I’m having trouble making them look decent. My hair is long, so that’s another issue with it. Tried a lot of ways to braid them in, but I always end up with a lot of long pieces with mismatched hair around it. Still working on it! Thinking of just dreading my own hair at this point!
Im 37 and I've always wanted this look since I can remember, but I have MASSIVELY thick hair 🥴 I've been a hairstylist for 18 years and I always had different colors and styles, but these past few years I've just left it straight and my natural dark brown color and I have been feeling BLAH. I feel bland, I don't like bland. Lol 😆 I want to just wrap mine w yarn and add beads and accessories bc I can change it out whenever I want and I don't think I want to start out w my entire head being done bc its already so flippin heavy. I just love this style. 💛
I have dreads for 6 months now, and my scalp is getting worse and worse... With the pulling of the roots when you do the fixing every 3 months. Then as you mention, the weight and traction when you do a bun... And then I got some red spots when the traction was too much. Sleeping is really hard, indeed.. So I got an inflammation, big greasy dandruff... I put oil it felt good but got worse with the dandruff... The scalp was sooo itchy. All the time. Still is sometimes. Now I use an antidandruff shampoo and a lotion against the inflammation. One big pro: no more hair is falling everywhere! Lol
I’m sorry you are having such a rough time! Maybe yours are too tight? Idk at what point are they not worth it lol your experience sounds like no fun :/
@@nicolepoulton yeah... I was a bit surprised and the person who did it for me said that it's the time she sees someone with so much trouble haha. But ok, now it gets better with the shampoo treatment. I know that my body in general is very reactive, so...makes sense. Good luck
So my question is I have bleached and colored my hair for the past few years and recently did a big chop I’m wanting something to protect my hair as it continues to grow is this a good way to do that?
YES! That is why I got mine too. I wanted a way to help my hair grow longer and stronger until I liked my natural hair again. The dreads were great for it!
im getting dreads soon and im worried about the pain on my head is there any way to make the scalp pain a little bit less painful? im getting blonde dreads ive always wanted blonde dreads
Yay!! That’s exciting!! My advice would be to not install them too tight and don’t put in too many. Keep your sections large enough that the hair can support the weight of the dread. If you do both of those things, you should have no pain at all!!
@@mashtyX56 I have only installed them myself. Honestly it’s very pricy to have someone else do it so I figured it’s a skill worth learning! It might be hard the first few installs until your fingers get the muscle memory hahah but I’m sure it’ll look great! Good luck!!
I've had wooldreads 3 times and they always start itching after 3 days! I've tried everything. Smaller sections, witchhazel and peppermint to sooth the scalp, sleeping with silk hairshawls. No matter what, I always get bumps and the itching won't go away. I am not allergic to wool. Am I doing something wrong?
Wow! Good on you for trying so many things! I have two thoughts: maybe your installing them too tight! I did this and was definitely covered with tension bumps. My other thought is that it’s the wool itself or the way they were dreaded. I’d you have locs that are not soft on your hands they will not be soft on your head. Maybe try a new brand?
@@nicolepoulton Thanks for the fast reply! I've also tried installing them looser. Also no luck. I make the dreads myself 🙈 I honestly think that my scalp is just very sensitive:/.
@@chacchan3791 dang! that is so cool that you make them though! Ya the ones I have were marketed as softer than others because the traditional way of dreading them brings all of the pokie ends out which will definitely cause irritation. Maybe try a few other ways of making them? Idk 🤷♀️
I moved to texas this year, and i believe the harsh water is kinda messing with my hair. Im used to bathing in fresh spring water, and dipping in the ocean almost every day. I didnt use shampoo for over a year. So fast forward to texas and like, my hair is like shedding in alarming quantity.. i dont think it looks any thinner on my head, but every time i would brush, it seemed like i shed an entire head of hair. I freaked out and started oiling/washing/conditioning once a week.. i really wanna get dreads but im afraid my scalp is too unhealthy and my hair will just like, bald out or something lol. Because the oiling keeps my hair from shedding but uhh i dont think its good to oil dreads, from what i understand lol
That’s a huge change! You must miss the ocean! The nice thing about the dreads is the natural oils on your head ramp up and start doing their thing after you install them :) I only wash my scalp once a week typically (with my dreads in) and my hair has been feeling so healthy. I totally understand the concern of having the dreads cause hair loss! I was so afraid of that too! My advice would be just as long as your sections are big enough to support the weight, you should be fine! In this pros and cons video (I filmed like 9 months ago) I had 43 dreads in my hair so the sections were very small. Now I only use 32 for my whole head and i still have complete coverage and the sections are bigger so there is less tugging on my hair. You could always try partials too. Either way, hair loss is scary stuff haha and in my personal experience, the dreads have made my hair healthier :)
Okay so... I need help?? How many DE dreads would I need? I've got a side shave, and super thin hair. I'm considering shaving the other side to match too, though.
First off, that look will be so BADASSS!!!!! Omg!!! So sick! Second, my hair is super fine too! My whole head takes 41-42 dreads (I bought 45 but don’t use them all) I think if I were to get a side shave it would take off 7-10 dreads depending on how it’s done so I would say 20-25 if you’ve got both sides shaved or 30-35 for the one side!! 🥰🥰🥰
@@nicolepoulton I'm not sure if it went through, I already responded, but regardless, I'm doing a few bundles of black, a few of black ombre to a dark blue, then some with black going to lighter neon blue!
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE!!!!!! hahaha you have done your research! lol ive got dreadful hippie blonde, sandy blonde, and sandy blonde melt. A mix of regular and dainty :) I love them so much! The link to their site is in the description of this video :)
I've been seriously thinking about Dreads for a while and I'm in the market to get synthetic ones do you have a good recommendation on where to purchase the synthetic kind and how much to order if you want your whole head ? Thank you in advance.
I use 43 for my whole head! I bought mine from dreadful hippie but I have heard good things about other brand too, I just don’t remember the names 🤦♀️ You could always start with partials and see how you like them!
I got mine from dreadfull hippie! I’ll post a link 🥰 the dread from dreadfull hippie are soooooo much better than anything else Ive seen. They are so soft and flow like real hair. dreadfullhippie.com/poulton-nicole
Hey Nicci, It's Pastor Susan again and I'm needing to ask you some questions. #1. What are these called for me ordering? #2. How man? #3. Are they called BUNDLES? & how many bundles are these? #4. Color? Or Colors? #5. Cost? Sorry if personal #6. Anything else you need can think of to tell me. Also, I heard you say in 1 of your other videos that there were some KELTIC ONES? THANKS SO MUCH!!
Yes I’ll fill you in with the details! 1. These are synthetic dreadlocks 2 &3. I have 9 bundles of 5 (45 dreads) 4. Blonde, sandy blonde, and sandy blonde melt we’re the colors I have! 5. $700 total (you can find different brands in any price range!) 6. Mine are dreadful hippie but you would probably be happy with any brand :)
hii I loved this video a lot! I just wanted to ask how many pieces of dreads are you having? The ones I want to buy are double dreads and I really dont know how many should I buy, it goes from 10 to 60 pieces. Also how long are your dreads?. Thank a lot!
How is your natural hair? Do you ever take them out? Are the dreads super damaging? I've had my extentions in for 2 days and I just keep panicning that all of my hair is going to rip out 😭
When i woke up this morning I didn't know that dreadlock extensions were a thing. I stumbled across a video while looking at weaves. Weaves are so bloody expensive... But yeah, lol I randomly bought dreadlock extensions xD they're pink, and they'll be here in like 6 days xD I don't think I'm going to tell anyone except my partner and my kid and then it'll be a surprise to everyone hahah.
Hey do you know if this synthetic hair is non-toxic? I'm thinking about getting them but I get sick from a lot of synthetic hair types that aren't non-toxic
Hey Nicole! They replied and said they cannot disclose the exact ingredients of the hair but it is made with kanekalon. I have done some research and heard it is toxic but if you haven't had any issues so far I would just do your own research and if they work for you that's great!
I don't think that I could ever put my own in,and I want to get so bad,due to hi cost I was thinking of trying the local Cosmology School, cost is 1/3 has anyone else tried that route? They told ma that an instructor will be there making sure it's done right. So what does anyone think, would you try that route?? Thanks
I just got my first synthetic dreads 3 days ago and to be honest, it's been hell since then. I can't sleep, everything hurts and I can't move my head and it is so damn itchy. I wish I could just take them out, but it was expensive to get them installed.
Definitely! These would be perfect! I would install them right before your surgery then you wouldn’t need to do anything with them for at least a month! But some people can go up to 8 weeks before needing to reinstall them :) Sorry you need the surgery but this would be a great option for you I think ❤️
I felt dreads reflected my personality as well. “More myself” yes exactly I brushed them out a few years ago and I miss them every day (they were my natural hair) I have a set of extensions that I’ve had for 5 years from an Etsy artist Fauna Wolfe that I never used and I’ve been obsessively considering putting them in so I can get back to being “me” … Still not fully sure what I’m going to do🤔
If you have double ended dreads you could just braid them in and see how you feel? Then just take them out if you’re not feeling it :) I absolutely LOVE how versatile my set it and how I can take them out super easy :) I bet brushing out your real dreads must have taken FOREVER!! 😅 I think if you had real ones you could DEFINITELY rock the extensions!! 🥰
sorry for the late reply! but I bought mine from Dreadfull hippie! I highly recommend them if you can swing it :) and I bought 9 packs (45 DE dreads) I could have gotten away with only 8 packs but its nice to have extras :)
Maybe it’s hard to see in the video, but how did you get the braids to blend so well? My hair is just longer than shoulder length and maybe 1-2 steps darker than yours, with beachy blond highlights. The braid is REALLY obvious and I don’t like it!
I love the look of the braids on the dreads! But if you don’t like it maybe try using smaller sections if you can? When I first installed the locs, nothing looked right. It was just soooooo different that it looked “weird” but then I got used to it. Also, what color are your dreads? Maybe it’s the color difference between your hair and the dreads? 🥰
Do you deal with many comments of people telling you it is cultural appropriation? I’m getting loc extensions this weekend and am trying to prepare myself for this.
NEVER IN PERSON! in real life, people are complementary and curious but online there has for sure been some hate lol Just remember why you are getting them. For me, I think dreads are beautiful and great for my hair, never anything bad so I just let the hate roll off :)
Can you wash the synthetic ones? Interested in doing this myself
you and me both on all accounts hahaha
This is about to be me! I definitely am 30 years old and going through my midlife crisis and been finding ways to make it work!
I need to put a video out of this! Don’t be afraid of other people opinions ❤️ if your experience is anything like mine, people will only say nice things about them in real life (it’s the internet that people can get shady) But at the end of the day it’s how they make YOU feel that’s important 🥰
Let me know once you’ve got them!!!

A silk night cap or pillow case and spray shampoo help keep your hair from frizzing. Loved my synthetic dreads! Can’t wait for my new set to common!
Spay shampoo like dry shampoo for the frizz?? That is genius!! Haha
@@nicolepoulton nooo, sorry, I forgot about dry shampoo 😆 It’s liquid shampoo you spray on your scalp and dreads to decrease the number of actual shampoos with scrubbing. I think it’s also called dread refresher.
@@sparetimeaffair I will have to look into that! It sounds like it would work without causing a build up issue :)
@@nicolepoultonwhere did you get that shower cap?
I love the way your describing the way they made tou feel. I just got them in for first time 3 months ago, from that day i felt like different person, from someone with little or no confidence to wanting to start my life again properly. So i get you. X
You are ADORABLE. You teach so well and really cover all the small details.
Lol
I definitely agree to investing in a good set!
All this information was very helpful. I've been debating on getting them & your video gave me the push to go ahead & do it!
Thank u!!

Okay for real, I must see those dreads!! Sorry for the delayed response but have you put them in yet?? I need pics!

I know it's late now, but for me it would depend on how bad I wanted my dreads in the pictures haha
it can be a bit challenging trying to sleep and shower with the dreads when first getting used to them so making the transition at home might be easier BUT having them in for the trip would mean less time doing your hair each day! haha and awesome pics!
I’m ordered and currently waiting on my DH dreads! Cannot wait and nervous about the getting use to part. But I’m all in lol. Thank you for sharing your experience with them.
So exciting!!! Once you get them let me know if you have questions and I’d love to help you 🥰
This is amazing! Thank you! answered A LOT of my questions! :)

Im 40 in February, ive wats wanted dreads! Im guna do it, like u said they can be taken out if need be!! Im super exited now lol
I'm in the process of making my first ever set. So I'm doing as much research as I can :)
I'm thinking of doing my underneath in dreds
I went to michaels and found come really cute beads and wire that I added it but it was kinda hard to sleep with those lol
My dreads are made from dreadfull hippie!
Definitely something to get used to! But so worth it :)
Questions please:
Where did you purchase yours?
Can you dye your roots if your hair is colored?
What cleaning products do you use for them and how often do you wash your hair?
What’s the process of washing your hair like?
How often do you take them out and re tie at the top root?
Did you braid them in or…?
How long was your hair when you did the extensions and did you do them yourself?
Thanks so much!!! They’re super cute on you and look well kept!
I’ll do my best to answer all of these! Haha
•purchased at dreadful hippie
•if you wanted to dye your roots, it would be best to take the dreads out :)
•I use redkin shampoo ONLY! conditioner will cause build up and should be avoided :) I was my hair about once a week. I’ll deep wash the dreads every time I move them up (6weeks ish)
•washing my hair is normal. I focus on washing my roots/ my scalp really well. The dreads get very heavy so I just keep the weight on my shoulders.
•I do full move ups every 6-8 weeks but I’ll touch up my roots as needed (sometimes 1 week sometimes 4. Depends on how well I braided it in haha)
•I use a three strand braid to install them :)
•when I first installed them my hair was to my CHIN! So short! 6 months later, my hair is to my shoulders :)
•I am cheap haha so I always install myself! It was hard the first 3 times but now it’s very easy :)
Maybe I’ll make a video of how I was them!??

Loved your video! I just had my first set installed for 5 weeks and then removed myself. I like that you touched on the maturing process because it sucks and most of us consumers don't know until it starts to happen and you're like oh no! Lol. I only have the 5 weeks on mine so a bit longer until mine start to look decent. Yours look great!
That maturing process was so crazy for me! Haha it took a while 3 months for it to stop but now it’s not a problem what so ever! :) keep it up! :)
Haha I just full on jumped into the deep end and I’m learning on the backside :)

The decision is yours! You might not like the quality of the cheap ones so I personally think, buy nice and buy once vs trying a few out. But totally up to you!
My daughter installed mine, however, I have some gaps on the sides and back where you can see my scalp. Any suggestions, wrong parting??
Ya that would just be a parting issue. The nice thing about that is how fixable it is! Haha when it’s time to move them up, have your daughter section it off a bit more evenly.
Would a sectioning tutorial be helpful for you, you think? :)
@@nicolepoulton oh thank you, that would be wonderful ❤️
where did you buy these they look so good!!
That is! They are from dreadful hippie!
Are they double or single ended dreads? I love your hair!
They are double ended :) so each dread is like 5 or 6 feet! Haha something crazy like that!
@heidiD right?? It took me HOURS to get good at braiding mine! Sometimes I consider dreading my real hair but then I get scared hahaha
What color or colors did you buy? Love your look 😍
Thanks! Ive got blonde, sandy blonde and sandy blonde melt!! I also have a mix between regular and dainty ones also ❤️
I have dreads for 6 months now, and my scalp is getting worse and worse...
Good luck
four months in and they look amazing! can i ask, how many double ends do you have on?
I had about 40 installed in this video :) so 80 ends total
how long can you leave these in?
I'm wanting to do the dreads extensions on my hair just to make it thicker
So my question is I have bleached and colored my hair for the past few years and recently did a big chop I’m wanting something to protect my hair as it continues to grow is this a good way to do that?
YES! That is why I got mine too. I wanted a way to help my hair grow longer and stronger until I liked my natural hair again. The dreads were great for it!
How often are you guys taking your dreads out and putting them back in?
how did you get them? beautiful! also how much does typical price range go?
I bought mine online :) the ones I got are kinda pricy, it was about $700 for my whole head :)
No wonder they look so good! Wow!
I have horrible hair due to hypothyroid. I want to try synthetic dreads but I'm worried about mold inside them.
im getting dreads soon and im worried about the pain on my head is there any way to make the scalp pain a little bit less painful? im getting blonde dreads ive always wanted blonde dreads
Yay!! That’s exciting!! My advice would be to not install them too tight and don’t put in too many. Keep your sections large enough that the hair can support the weight of the dread. If you do both of those things, you should have no pain at all!!
@@nicolepoulton thank you so much I will most definitely be installing my dreads soo ❤
@@mashtyX56 I have only installed them myself. Honestly it’s very pricy to have someone else do it so I figured it’s a skill worth learning! It might be hard the first few installs until your fingers get the muscle memory hahah but I’m sure it’ll look great! Good luck!!
@@nicolepoulton thank you most definitely worth learning
The nice thing about the dreads is the natural oils on your head ramp up and start doing their thing after you install them :)
I only wash my scalp once a week typically (with my dreads in) and my hair has been feeling so healthy.
My whole head takes 41-42 dreads (I bought 45 but don’t use them all)
I think if I were to get a side shave it would take off 7-10 dreads depending on how it’s done so I would say 20-25 if you’ve got both sides shaved or 30-35 for the one side!! 🥰🥰🥰
@@nicolepoulton oh my gosh thank you!!!!! I might say screw it and shave the other side! (I'm hand-making them so gosh just fewer I gotta do)
@@sincerelyrose6627 that would really cut down how much you had to make haha I think it would look awesome either way!
What colors are you thinking??
@@nicolepoulton I'm not sure if it went through, I already responded, but regardless, I'm doing a few bundles of black, a few of black ombre to a dark blue, then some with black going to lighter neon blue!
@@sincerelyrose6627 that is so cool! Have you made them before? I’ve never tried lol
Which brand of dreads do you have? They look amazing! They look like the Dreadful Hippie blonde melt dreads:)
I bought mine from dreadful hippie but I have heard good things about other brand too, I just don’t remember the names 🤦♀️
You could always start with partials and see how you like them!
Where did you get your dreads from? I e ordered some and most of them are crap ,
I got mine from dreadfull hippie! I’ll post a link 🥰 the dread from dreadfull hippie are soooooo much better than anything else Ive seen. They are so soft and flow like real hair.

Hey Nicci,
It's Pastor Susan again and I'm needing to ask you some questions.
#1. What are these called for me ordering?
#2. How man?
#3. Are they called BUNDLES? & how many bundles are these?
#4. Color? Or Colors?
#5. Cost? Sorry if personal
#6. Anything else you need can think of to tell me.
Also, I heard you say in 1 of your other videos that there were some KELTIC ONES?
THANKS SO MUCH!!
Yes I’ll fill you in with the details!
1. These are synthetic dreadlocks
2 &3. I have 9 bundles of 5 (45 dreads)
4. Blonde, sandy blonde, and sandy blonde melt we’re the colors I have!
5. $700 total (you can find different brands in any price range!)
Thank a lot!
where do i buy these ?
I get mine from dreadfull hippie! 🥰

I honestly have no clue haha I think mine are the same as Barbie hair but idk if that’s toxic or not
Okay thanks! I emailed them so I will wait to see if they get back to me on that!
@@jacquelyndeviaaranda8515 if they respond, definitely let me know what they say!!
Will do!
Hey Nicole! They replied and said they cannot disclose the exact ingredients of the hair but it is made with kanekalon. I have done some research and heard it is toxic but if you haven't had any issues so far I would just do your own research and if they work for you that's great!
how many dreads do you have
I bought 45 but I use about 42 of them 🥰
I don't think that I could ever put my own in,and I want to get so bad,due to hi cost I was thinking of trying the local Cosmology School, cost is 1/3 has anyone else tried that route? They told ma that an instructor will be there making sure it's done right. So what does anyone think, would you try that route?? Thanks
I just got my first synthetic dreads 3 days ago and to be honest, it's been hell since then. I can't sleep, everything hurts and I can't move my head and it is so damn itchy. I wish I could just take them out, but it was expensive to get them installed.
I’m going in for shoulder surgery in a month. Would these be a good idea for me not to worry about brushing my hair , and just keep them up?
Definitely! These would be perfect! I would install them right before your surgery then you wouldn’t need to do anything with them for at least a month! But some people can go up to 8 weeks before needing to reinstall them :)
Sorry you need the surgery but this would be a great option for you I think ❤️
@@nicolepoulton you’re so sweet thank you for your kind words. And thank you for your content!!! I ❤️it
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you enjoy it 💜
I felt dreads reflected my personality as well. “More myself” yes exactly
I brushed them out a few years ago and I miss them every day (they were my natural hair)
I have a set of extensions that I’ve had for 5 years from an Etsy artist Fauna Wolfe that I never used and I’ve been obsessively considering putting them in so I can get back to being “me” …
Still not fully sure what I’m going to do🤔
If you have double ended dreads you could just braid them in and see how you feel? Then just take them out if you’re not feeling it :)
I absolutely LOVE how versatile my set it and how I can take them out super easy :)
I bet brushing out your real dreads must have taken FOREVER!! 😅 I think if you had real ones you could DEFINITELY rock the extensions!! 🥰
Ok so what I’ve read on google says that you can’t get them wet cause they can mold. I am not excited to take them out ever two weeks to shower.
@@angelmarie8796 1000000% they can get wet :) just like Barbie hair can get wet 🥰
I hope you see my comment, i have 2 questions, 1. Where did you purchase yours? 2. How many DE dreads did you use? Thanks! I love yours so much!
sorry for the late reply! but I bought mine from Dreadfull hippie!
Does TSA think you've hidden something in your hair??? 😅
