I shaved my head.. grew hair for a year now and I'm restarting dreads again today!! ❤️ Do u still have yours!? I shaved my 1st set off bcus the extension hair was too itchy. It wasn't 100% human. This time I got really good hair for extensions. I send u love & hope u are well. ❤️👊

      @@winnie2222 I do still have them, it'll be 3 years next month actually. I added some lock extensions that I crocheted about a year ago and took them off because I didn't like them, they weren't 100% human hair either and I didn't want to make that investment since I didn't like how the fake ones looked any way, I love my natural dreads. anyway good luck to you on your journey!

    I know youre still going to crochet the dread, but you actuallz get a much knottier, tighter dread in the beginning if you twist and then pull from about the middle of the srand, at her hair length than if you pull at the end. Pulling at the end makes it very fluffy and lose a lot of legth, if you pull higher up you dont lose as much. the extension you put in looked much better than the top.

    I am impressed. I like your work. The way you pair them up is similar to what I do. I would love to share some info with you on how I pair up locks. I actually use a crochet hook and not a latch hook. I've used latch hooks in the past but they don't create that nice, nearly fuzz free lock and doesn't work for all hair types. Your use of and ability with the latch hook is advanced for sure. My method was about the same when I switched to crochet. I've experimented with so many brands of crochet hooks and found that Boye seems to be the most efficient in pulling in loose hair and matching up locks. Size ,12, 13 & 14. Instead of Laing them side by side, I actually comb about can inch or 3 of hair from the end of their natural hair and the connecting end of the extension. I split them both in three sections where they meet up and cross them or I guess you can say scissor them. Extensions hair laying on their own lock and their hair laying on the extension lock only in three sections and not just laying side by side. It helps to leave no bumbs where they are joined and also makes it to where you can add extentions to even extremely mature or hard locks. Crochet is a whole different skill but one that you would be able to transition to pretty easily. I tought myself with dolls before I worked on my own then my clients. I have a method for sure and I feel like everyone who does crochet is a little different. I did root flipping and latch hook for too long and I hate that section of dread on my dread journey. They get build up like crazy still. ACV soak is necessary more than twice a year for me only because of the interlocked and latch hooked section. I've maintained my roots with crochet for a year. Took off my starter locks/tips and replaced them with extensions because of the damage and build up ACV soak wouldn't take out so they were getting brittle. Anywhoo.. maybe TMI. Just sharing experience with another Loctician. I hope this helped a little.

    Thank you for being an amzing you! I'm 43, work in a corporate environment for a major financial institution, started this journey 3 weeks ago, and you have helped not only teach/guide me in what to do but also what to expect. My hair is starting to really take and lock. How long would you suggest letting the dread mature before adding extensions? I already starting making them with real hair and using the same technique as I used for my natural hair. My hair was long and is already shrinking, so I feel a bit weird....but thankfully the frizzy pieces are starting to lock, so I don't look like a super crazy person, as much! Thanks for any advice!

    The only place locally I could afford to get them done did not feely hair would hold dreads due to being very fine plus because of the maintenance they felt it would be to much for me to do. I don't agree. But I'm kind of at a stand still as I can't do this myself. I have a heart condition that if I hold my arms up for long periods I can have issues. Well poop! I'm still going to watch and learn and maybe someday it can happen.

      Same! I’ve been working on adding extensions to my 4 year old dreads but it’s taking me months because I keep having to take weeks off to let my shoulders recover from constantly reaching up to my head 😖 Part of the reason (not the full reason but it definitely factored into my decision) I got dreads in the first place was so I wouldn’t have to hurt my shoulders every morning while brushing my hair 😂
      I have P.o.T.S as well as EDS so the reaching up leaves me really breathless, at this rate I don’t know if I’ll ever finish my extensions 🤦🏽‍♀️

    • @cupstudios3788
      @cupstudios3788 5 лет назад

      Justified Jess yes, though you could use yarn, or even ripped cloth strands if you wanted to 🤷‍♀️ anything that won’t get gross (some yarns do). You could also go to the dollar store (or whatever it’s called where you are) and get faux hair

      yes, you can (kanekalon), but be aware. you can wear those extensions for max. a year, then they look bad. also you can't dye them, they can't have open ends, they're itchy, when they mature they don't look natural

    I have been looking for a video like this for at least a year... Thank you!!! Do you have any experience doing this with a wool extension? My hair is only about four inches long, so the idea of adding in an extension while I am forming my locks is incredibly appealing, but I like the idea of using wool.

    • @WiredAndStoned
      @WiredAndStoned  8 лет назад

    • @labyrinthhoops6978

      +Wired And Stoned I have mostly seen wool as temporary extensions. I have seen a couple of examples of a wool extension being sewn (needle and thread) onto a mature dreadlock, but this is the first video I have come across where someone is actually putting in an extension while forming the dreadlocks. If you end up trying it out, please share your experience!

    An odd question I have and if you or anyone could answer this would be amazing, but does the extension come out over time? Or do you have to kinda cut it out? I am in the process of dreading my hair and with my hair being short I wanted extensions to make it longer but worry if they would fall out over time once my hair is longer then now.
