Mandolorian already proved the helmeted protagonist works.
vader did it first decades ago

Fixed is an understatement. Helmets off to you sir. Then right back on.

Helmet off... Revealed helmet underneath
Only if theres another Helmet under that helmet.
What you did there...I see it.
“Master Chief, what are you doing with your helmet on?”
“Sir, pleasing the fans.”
Helmet off: He's another background spartan. Helmet on: He is the Chief
How clueless can the show creators be. This actually made it watchable. Props to you sir 🫡
the actor needs to promote his face, i guess
His voice is still off. The show’s just a mess. A stain on the halo legacy. I hate that it’s associated with the amazing IP that is Halo
Not just showrunners, actor is at fault too. He wanted his face out there
This what happens when you have people who do not know the sorce material at all 😂
It’s intentional, these people don’t respect source material, and they do it just to anger the fans
The fact that you can make a huge statement like "the covenant is on reach" so impactful with the helmet on is a testiment enough to how well helmets can help portray emotion. Not having obvious facial expressions on characters with helmets can be so good because it leaves the audience guessing what the protagonist may be feeling through just the tone of their voice
Exactly- you hit it right on the head here. I had chills when he said that with the helmet. It feels like good ol chief again
Yes i think whenever he has the armor helmet should be on. At Fleetcom without armor ok ofc.
My man we need people like you at paramount
Finally someone said it. That's why I call the "you cant portrait emotions with a helmet on" a bullshit
I let me think of all the memes about Star Wars clones portraying emotions with their helmets on. If a picture can do it, why not a full scene ?
Crazy how just keeping the helmet on and changing the music made the scene infinitely better and have a bigger impact. Hope you guy make more scenes like this!! 🎉
Wow. That was miles better than the original.
I feel the scene with the speech in front of the marines also needs this treatment.
He sells the master chief performance much better with the helmet on.
Better but the character is still way off the real thing.
True, because Master Chief's helmet IS his face.
honestly they should've just dubbed over Pablo Schreiber's voice with Steve Downes' voice like how they did with Darth Vader in the original star wars trilogy. David Prowse wore the suit and acted out all the movement but James Earl Jones was the one who voiced him.
@@christianvazquez2587 I worked with David's grandson Travis Prowse. The fam actually agrees George made a good decision to dub over him. Imagine trying to apply that voiceover to Kenobi's finale. RIP David, you'd be proud of the CTS-V's your family like to rebuild. The exhausts will blow her skirt right off it's actually wild how loud they are. xD
Na, he needs a lot less talking
You guys understand. Emotion has been conveyed through music, camera angles, body language and dialogue flawlessly in Halo for 20 years.
Fr whoever pitched this idea of chief taking his helmet off needs to get fired. This all looks and feels like a high school project. Especially with music not being added half the time

LOL good one man
That ending of the maw
“The Covenant’s on Reach”
That line… delivered so calmly, but is there confidence or fear in John’s face right now? You don’t see it but you can sense it, like players did when he remembered what Cortana said to him about being a machine. The helmet adds much more character
Nah. Not in this show. Y’all are being so biased. The first season needed his helmet on more than he had it because he had it often bad scenes, but everything in the show made it better. You can’t do good acting with a helmet on you’re just wrong if you think you can. The master chief is very stoic in the games and so is the Mandalorian. Those kind of characters work with helmets on because their characters don’t really have much emotion. Which it works for that character. Toby Maguire Spider-Man is awful when he’s screaming and he has a mask on. It looks like a joke. This scene was not better with the helmet on. You’re just saying that because you know the master chief doesn’t take his helmet off. I actually thought the first two episodes are really good at this season and he had a good performance and he’s a compelling character, but he’s not the master chief from the games and that’s what I have a problem with. They should’ve just made him a different Spartan. That scene I just watched was not better with the helmet on and there’s no way anybody thinks objectively not knowing anything about halo. That was a better seat. There’s literally no way. That was probably the worst thing for them to choose to put the helmet on other than a scene where he didn’t have any other armor on. I don’t know why they take a character who’s known for never having his facial, and then making him different with his personality, and requiring a helmet to be off to convey that. His performance was really good his first two episodes, and the helmet would’ve made it worse. But they shouldn’t have chosen a character that wears a helmet all the time lol. Sweet from the twist metal show was really great but they really amped up his voice and it’s more cartoonish and comedic and when it is serious there’s a lot of body language and his shirt is off and he’s a huge guy and he’s stomping and shaking his head like a maniac because he is an insane person from an insane asylum… So far would be much worse if the only thing they changed, was putting a helmet on. That’s just a fact that doesn’t mean they made the right decision by making the show about the master chief.
@@jessejive117 please chill out Jesse it was just a opinion
@@jessejive117Hugo Weaving outshines even veteran actors in his masked performance in V for Vendetta. No one is expecting a Hugo Weaving caliber performance, but to say it’s not possible with a mask is incorrect
@@jessejive117 Have you ever watched Star Wars? Vader wore a helmet in 99% of the original trilogy and even with just a few lines he managed to convey not only emotions but personality and what his face expressed underneath the helmet, another example, in the Clone Wars series we have the dialogues between Rex and Ahsoka, a few seconds then a discussion between Rex and Jesse that even without showing their faces it is possible to feel the emotions of the characters and the sadness on their faces from under the helmet.
and we're just talking about Star Wars, want another example? Edi from Mass Effect doesn't even have a face and yet manages to have personality and convey emotions, the Quarians live with a helmet on their head and are still able to convey personality and emotions in a convincing way, even though they don't show their face, you KNOW the expression on their faces in every scene.
Diablo 3 when Tyrael fights with Imperius, they are characters that don't even have faces and yet it is possible to "see" the expression of anger, sadness and disgust on their "faces".
@@jessejive117 Listen to your own words, only one biased here is you, also can't call your opinion a fact that is low-key narcissistic. You can do good acting without a helmet besides... Master Chief is suppose to be stoic.
Thank you guys so much. This looks amazing! Chief never needed facial expressions to give off sincere emotion and the music was perfect!
He's so much more intimidating when you don't see his face
need more actors like Karl Urban who respect the character enough to know the helmet should stay on.
karl has respect for dredd this guy has none for MC
Apparently this guy does advocate to keep the helmet on...but he doesn't control those decisions
did dredd new movie have same respect when fans back then criticize it for the helmet ?? i have copies of fans criticize back then and i am no hypocrite when i see one now
@@CFronTV Oh look, another person whose entire exposure to Master Chief is the video games and doesn't know there's a canon universe of novels out there too. Where MC is humanized and, gasp, even takes off his armor to have people comment on how pasty white and pale he is.
So you're right. Pablo isn't pale enough.
@@user-el5yw1er2jso what, he takes off his armor more often in written material where it isn't all action? Sure it makes sense to not be wearing it or the helmet ALL the time, but its always been a point, even for 343 who took on the series to never take it off in anything that isn't a legendary ending or something, its clearly a staple of how he's portrayed *on screen* if nothing else, written material aside
To the actor please don't feel bad, we don't hate you, we just love Master Chief.
Halo Actor Pablo Schreiber: ‘If You Don’t Agree With the Helmet Coming Off in the Show, You Don’t Like Our Show’

"If you want to make a Halo show with Master Chief without his helmet on - you want to make another show."
true xD Actor is good, but John shouldnt drop his helm. End.
Absolutely spectacular. The show is instantly elevated through these two changes. Excellent job.
I will never understand the excuse of faceless characters as of late. "You can't tell what emotions they're suppose to have." THAT'S LITERALLY THE POINT OF THE SCORE! MUSIC HELPS TO SET THE SCENE WITHOUT USING WORDS! Poor musically gifted people being sidelined despite their talent...😮💨
You guys did an amazing job by the way! Had I not known, I would've thought his helmet was real! Awesome!!!💚
Is more how the series is building thier canon, of course fans (or fanboys) love master chief with helfmet but in the show dosen't works.
And let's not forget body acting and vocal tone. There are so many ways to convey emotion without facial expressions. One of the most human traits is our ability to empathize and place emotion on almost anything.
@@firecrakcer001 This exactly! You don't even need dialogue, just let me see how they react to their environment with their body language. Metroid Samus Returns had an EXCELLENT portrayal of the "Show don't tell" rule in the baby Metroid hatching cutscene. The show/movie/game is doing something right when I can hazard a guess what they're feeling behind the helmet when they adequately communicate through body language; we do this kinda shit all the time without even really thinking about it irl. Heck, I remember how perceptive people were about how I was feeling during the whole...you-know-what pandemic a couple years back...even with a face-mask on; the more a face is covered, the more people pay attention to subtle nuances elsewhere, ya know? If we "can't tell what emotions they're supposed to have", then your actors aren't very good at acting if nothing changes regardless if the helmet is on or not. If I can't see you emoting with your face, then I need to see you emoting with your body, ya know? It's not terribly difficult. ;)
I think that the "you can't portrait emotion with a helmet on" is just an actor problem at that point
it's like how earlier spider man movies worked. if you can't portray emotion through the face, use body language and voice tone. find a workaround if you absolutely need to.
It's not just the actor it's the director and Cameraman too.
It's a holdover that boils down to a brand recognition thing that agents/producers/actors fought for during early days of film making. Essentially what would happen is a big name actor would get brought on just for a few scenes, but have their face plastered all over the marketing material because they were what drew in the initial sales. So to allow smaller named folks to build up rep the culture basically has this idea that if your face isn't on screen it isn't worth playing.
Definitely sounds like a skill issue
@@skinnyjeanis7177 The reason why Andrew Garfield is the goat for the roles, but shit scripts.
This is why I much preferred Forward Unto Dawn as the true Live Action Adaptation. It's set in the Halo Lore as a prequel story of Lt. Lasky when he was a trainee and the base he was trained in comes under attack by the Covenant. When the Master Chief arrives to rescue Lasky and his fellow Cadets, Chief's helmet stayed on the entire time and yet the actor did a great job as the Chief with his voice and the way he portrayed the character. Then in the end they meet up with other Spartans at the pickup point and when they got on the Pelican, the other Spartans took their helmets off. their looks were accurate to the books with having pale skin and augmented eyes and with the Chief still having his helmet on at that moment you get a rough idea on what he could possibly look like underneath the helmet and it's that mystery that really makes him who he is.
Hell yes, I absolutely loved that series
This is absolutely amazing. Now this chief just needs that over-emotional, power hungry ‘you do what I tell you’ voice changed and I’d actually watch the show.
Yo I felt more in that snippet of footage than I did in the first episode of the show. I seriously can't wait to see what you do with the rest of this project because this was pretty cool.
Thats actually makes that scene so much better, great job.
Really wish they didn't use chief at all i mean to me if it were noble 6 before he joined noble team i think I could accept the show a lot more but just a personal opinion
should've done it with a scene from S1 where he should have had his helmet on, and not S2 considering the only times chief has his helmet off or is out of armor this season (so far ) is when its appropriate, him being in a civilian setting or like this scene for example where all of them are preparing so him having his helmet on or off doesn't matter
@@Laikalister like when he first takes his helmet off in season 1 but instead of seeing his face its just another helmet.
Or literally any other spartan instead of Master Chief. Honestly, I would enjoy the show better if this guy was just some other hyper-lethal spartan instead of Chief. Maybe later on in the show Chief would actually come in and save this dude and silver team and we would get the Chief we all are familiar with. The whole show just feels like a missed mark all around. The new season is better, but damn if it still isn't just MEH to me most of the time.

My biggest issue is that The Mandalorian already proved that you can have emotional and impactful moments come from a character who is always wearing a helmet. If the actor is good and the writing is good no amount of face covering will hinder the emotion behind the acting and Pablo is a phenomenal actor.
Well unfortunately Pablo Schreiber is kind of an egomaniac that insisted his face be on camera as much as possible.

i loved it when the actor said "to see a characters emotions you need to see his face" and the entire show hes been either brooding angry or on the verge of tears. thank you sir for showing how easy it is to portray emotion without a face.
I love how the only emotions we see are "I don't understand what the fuck is going on" and "I don't know what to do".

Really well done, I'd pay $$ to see the whole series done like this.
Side note, the fact that the spartans DONT have their helmets (life support, comms, friend or foe id, spectrum analysis, a.i intel etc all built in) while ON A MISSION in a time of war, is just such bad writing....its for the sake of showing off the actors faces for the showrunners own gratification, not ours as viewers and fans.
So thanks so much for making the adjustments to make this show believable and better
Thank you so much for the kind words! Couldn't agree more, it just makes sense for them to have their helmets on!
To be fair, the other Spartans would often have helmets off between missions from what I remember. But honestly, as soon a Chief told that guy to start the pre-mission weapons checks and stuff? That's when the others should all put on their helmets, too.
All of this stuff you are saying, it's built into their suits our there DNI, the helmet isn't required
Their helmets are on during the mission, why would they need "spectrum analysis" to talk to each other in a briefing??
if you want armored super soldiers who can't seem to keep their helmets on, warhammer is probably more your speed
but seriously if actors and directors can't pull off a faceless character the iron man movies already solved this, just show the characters head inside the helmet HUD for scenes where we absolutely can't miss the expression on his face
The added music and helmet make the scene so much more impactful and intense.

This is excellent. I find it crazy how even when Master Chief has his helmet always on, there's still somehow so much emotion from just seeing him staring into the camera. All they needed was to keep his helmet on and have his original voice actor dub over it, don't see anything wrong with that approach. Keeps the mystery of the Chief there which is why I love his character so much

him literally wearing his helmet adds to his character and mystique and maybe they do something similar to the mandolarian where they show it time to time
guess it shows how short the attention spans these people have. mandalorian was one of those shows people could not shut up about, and there's been an easy workaround for helmeted characters they could have copied from iron man that came out 16 years ago!
I am amazed how much that really improved that scene.
Not at all. I did not watch this garbage but have many questions. Why do the other Spartans look like SJWs? John-117 talks too much? What's with the hairstyles on other Spartans? They look like civilians in space armor.
Dude i was so trigger by them removing his gear for most of the series, thank you, you brought peace to my soul ❤
The delivery with the helmet gave me shivers down my spine
That's some fantastic lighting work! My only critisism of the final product is that, while I know you had to make sure the original head stayed hidden and thus wanted to match the movements well, I think you could have made some adjustments to the movement- after all, one of the things that makes a helmeted character work is more acting with the body. A tilt upward as he says "the covenant are on reach", things like that.
Well the damn actor clearly didn't move his body enough because the emotion is trying to be convey through the fking head. But even with this and the music, it is soooo much better. I can just feel myself hyped up for whats going to happen.
Thank you for the feedback! We'll definitely keep that in mind for the next project.

Honestly, the helmet even accentuate his acting even more. Subtle movements, tone of voice and mannerisms give him a personality
Exactly. The Chief has always been straight forward, into battle, never emotional or distracted. But even in the video games, there were times when someone said something really shitty, and when he turned his head and looked right at them, they would get scared. To have a 7 foot tall, walking half ton tank to turn it's gaze at you was unnerving. Especially when you know it could break you in half without effort. The Del Rio scene in Halo 4 was amazing when it portrayed it, because he's look chief in the visor and screaming at him, but he can't see chiefs eyes to know what his intentions are, and so gets very mad and calls for the Chiefs arrest. It's scenes like that where it shows that no one will dare arrest the man who saved humanity multiple times.
It doesn’t even feel like you changed anything because that’s how it was supposed to be in the first place 🔥
Sublime!
If you do it with all the scenes I´m going to watch it all over again.

Just need to AI generate Steve’s voice overtop of whatever Pablo is doing and we’re golden
Yes, this for sure. This ended up being the first clip I've seen of the show and I was like "So is Chief being silent or is one of these voices supposed to be them?"
With the rapid advancements of AI, I would not be surprised if we get a faithful illegal fan made show by 2030.
@@VeNoMz_ It can't be illegal if its free BUT us viewers will just "donate" just how these sleazy politicians get away with it when a soul-less corporation donates to their party.
Agreed. He sounds awful compared to the original. They should have hired an actor who can actually sound like him@@Xeogin
I've also edited the Halo show. Also did Master Chief Voice Dubbed on my channel.
Some modulation on the voice under the helmet would go a long way.
this added so much value and nostalgia to the show job well done, if only his voice was also like chiefs in the show
I hope this gets the exposure it deserves and serves as a kick in the teeth to the showrunners and studio. The arrogrance they have amazes me.
How can you take something that so clearly worked with Chief in the games and think you can do it better in live action by having him remove his helmet at every opportunity. Honestly I couldnt care less about this actor having his mug out there for exposure.
Blows my mind that we have the Mandalorian running basically simultaneously and serves as a fantastic example of a character whose face is covered throughout but still manages to portray emotion through speech, body language and action. RIP to a once great franchise.
This is because showrunners think the entire earth rotates around them and they at the same time, don't have talent.
Even now showrunners are getting even stupid they make shows by chatgpt and everything fans love about those shows they try do destroyed it and then they have the adousity to blame fans when their show flops.
It be confirmed they dont like the game Lore. :(
You fixed his long neck helmet as well thank you
YES. This proves you can with the helmet on and not miss a step. Well done.
This looked insanely good dude!
Holy hell dude it’s actually watchable now, just needs Steve Downes voice and it’d be perfect
No amount of editing can make this show watchable, the plot is still terrible and bloated with crap no one cares about.
@@Giliver oh no dude I fully meant just this clip out of context. I hate the show and it never should have happened 😂
Someone please show this to the showrunners! This is exactly what the show needs!
Watched this after the deep dive on halo infinite and it even threw jabs at the fact that even with a helmet it's proven you can convey emotion whether or not you can see the person's face and the "I will not fail you" or the "we all fail. We all make mistakes, it's what make us human"
It still looks a bit awkward but this is a massive improvement. Thank you so much.
Damn, that one scene with his character CORRECTED felt more like Halo than all of the Halo TV show did thus far.
PLEASE do more scenes with this tech!
I can't even express how much better that made it. I've never seen more clueless producer team. From Chief being the chattiest spartan, the full auto BR, making the spartans full emo, the list could go on.
Perfect
Mindblowing
Point well made. "No glove, no love."
This shows how dedicated Chief is to being a Spartan compared to the others. Feels like Halo
Chills, that's how little the Show would have to do, how could they fuck up so easily giving to them
they should edit the entire series of 1 and 2 and put the helmet on all the spartans
Remember Spartans never have faces, only helmets
@@trevfromnz8927unless you’re a Spartan IV.
that was a joke.
@@trevfromnz8927 honestly, not even remotely true. The rule of Spartans from the books is "Spartans never die." So they all get listed as MIA. I'm pretty sure I specifically remember reading scenes of John either removing his helmet, or putting it on, implying even he takes it off sometimes. When FARRRR from combat/danger. And the others? I remember them having helmets off for mission briefings and stuff, I think. John is BY FAR the one most likely to have his helmet on.
"Covenant's on Reach" just sounded SO Master Chief with the helmet on.
Just this shot of the emotionless helmet made the dropped bombshell hit so much harder.
Excellent work. Makes me wonder if they filmed it this way as to have an alternate version that allows for the helmet on at all times.
I never understood the argument of 'need the helmet off to convey emotion'. The Mandalorian did a great Job of the exact opposite. Great work guys. It looks phenomenal!
