My man! This year I discovered Cereal at Midnight and it quickly became one of my favorite entertainment channels and literally my favorite physical media channel. Thanks to you I’ve discovered so many movies and blu-ray releases that I wasn’t even aware of. My favorite discover so far thanks to you has been the Warner Archive releases. Thank you and Bree for everything. Your content is awesome. Love to you from Baja, Mexico.

Great video! Love the channel. The Arrow release of Alice, Sweet, Alice is my top for the year. I grew up watching a VHS recorded off TV of this movie, and to get to see it fully restored with different cuts of the movie and tons of bonus features was amazing.
Great video Heath! I agree about The Wizard of Oz it looks amazing on 4K. I have been picky about what I’m buying on 4K so far 2 best movies are Grease and Argento’s Suspiria. I know it sounds weird, but Grease looks amazing. It really is like watching a different movie. Suspiria is remastered from the source material by Synapse films and it will blow your mind. Seriously if you only buy one 4K in 2020 it should be this. It’s pricey around $35, but worth it.
Hands down my favorite release this year was Apocalypse Now The Final Cut 4K. Great video, you've reminded me of stuff I still want to pick up (especially those Street Fighter sets).
Very nice picks! I upgraded two of our TV’s to 4K. I am looking for a 4K BR player. I am super interested in obscure horror and westerns. I love these companies that are making old movies new again. Restoration is such a gift to fans!
I haven't seen the Jetsons Bluray yet. Collections of series vs volumes or seasons is they way to go for shows that have long since ended. It's nice to see publishers supporting this more and more.
Great list. And a great reminder for a few of those that I've yet to pick up. But here's a couple of my favorites that weren't mentioned. The Criterion release of the Russian WAR AND PEACE. Finally (!) a transfer that does justice to this amazing film. And the Shout Factory OMEN boxset. Great looking set. And includes the original trilogy, the remake and IV!
It was a great year for discs! I thought that Arrow's American Werewolf in London and Robocop were outstanding, and am lucky enough to have the beautiful Criterion Godzilla set (I would say kaiju 'rampage' lol). Still enjoying my Voltron box set - hoping we see a complete Inspector Gadget at some point.
My favorite release of 2019 by far is the Criterion Collection Godzilla Showa series. It's an amazing set that's well worth the price. My second favorite release is the Godzilla: King of the Monsters steelbook. It's my favorite steelbook.
Oh yeah! I love the Criterion Godzilla set!! I love the Showa films and having them looking great on blu ray all in a gorgeous package makes me so happy. I really hope they release the 80's-2000's Godzilla movies in another set! I also absolutely love having the Ultra series on blu ray! It's an amazing time to be a tokusatsu fan and physical media fan!
It would be great if they released a Heisei Series set and a Millennium Series set as well. I haven't picked up any of the new Ultra series blu rays yet, but they look amazing and I can't wait to get them! It's great that we're getting more Kaiju releases. I'm hoping now we can get King Kong Escapes (the Japanese version) and the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla series in the future.

The Gamera films are reportedly coming soon from Arrow, which is a fantastic label who puts a ton of love into their releases. Nothing has been officially announced, but some info has started to leak out via social media.
Happy New Year! I did pick up the Showa Godzilla Set. So many movies to catch up on. I have been trying to expand my Lupin the Third library. Series II released box set three last January and the final set, box 4, will release at the end of this month. I have also picked up several of the Lupin Japanese TV specials on Blu Ray. I also picked up the Blu-ray Arrow release of House and House II. I somehow missed the Thundercats release so I need to get that.I feel my 80s cartoon library will be pretty complete after that. Regarding contacting Universal (as I may have mentioned before), I've had a few Monster DVD sets go bad. Their customer service is the worst. At best they toss you in a circle of emails that are rarely addressed. Never had an issue taken care of. Best to you both. Viva Cereal At Midnight! - D.
People have been predicting the end of physical media since the launch of Blu-ray, but here we are with some of the coolest stuff I've ever seen just this year alone. Thanks for the info about Universal's customer service. It's a shame that they haven't made any forward movement to fix their error yet. Happy New Year!
So many great things in 2019. I love the epic Hills Have Eyes release from Arrow. I preordered it and was able to get it in the nice box with the book. I think 4ks have also been biggest for me this year. It’s a Wonderful Life and Wizard of Oz look and sound better than I’ve ever seen them.
@MukilteoSailor I feel like this is a good place to say that I never intend to sell stuff for or to anybody, but I do get really excited about everything that's coming out these days. I just love pop culture and entertainment, and there's so many great things coming out in the world of physical media. Things that will never touch a streaming service. With our purchases comes true ownership, and also equity (value) that can be loaned, re-sold, or traded. I believe with all my heart that I will be enjoying the purchases I make today until the day I leave this world. We have it so good right now, and I don't know how long this golden age is going to last, so I'm gonna live it up!
@@CerealAtMidnight Your passion is very authentic and I appreciate it. There is a crazy amount of content being released right now. As you say we have to take this opportunity to get those shows and movies we love and show the companies there is still interest and support for physical media. We share many pop culture and entertainment interests, so when I watch your content it is with an eye towards things I may have missed so I can purchase. Happy New Year!
Physical media has been very important to me this year. I stream from netflix too, but I dont like the idea of big corporations deciding what I can and can't watch.
I didn't buy a huge amount of new releases this year. I got a lot of steelbook versions of stuff I already have. Big Asian cinema fan, i'm in Ireland, UK companies 88 Films, EUREKA! & Arrow Video put out some fantastic editions of Jackie Chan movies. Picked up a couple of thing's that I wanted but hadn't got, Battles Without Honor & Humanity blu-ray set, Takeshi Kitano's Outrage trilogy, Sliders complete series. Upgraded my Clit Eastwood 35 Films 35 Years to Clint Eastwood 40 Film Collection.
Arrow releases I went from mine to nearly the whole catalogue on black Friday. Amazing releases. BBC Earth with Dynasties and One Planet, Seven World's should be a 4k textbook for display purposes. Alita was a surprise hit few me. Endgame on 4K and Spider-Man. My shelves fill up faster the more people say physical media is on its last breath.
Didn't realize This Island Earth was a this year release, no wonder I haven't been able to find it locally in my limited selection of stores. Thanks Heath. :) Special features are arguably my favorite part of purchasing the disc. English speaking only Canadian here, could not have said that better lol. I need that He-Man box set. If it wasn't for another collection /cough Warhammer 40k /cough my movie collection would be far more complete than it is now. Lol, Horror on Snape Tower, sounds very Harry Potter and very very wrong, lol Damn dude, where you get your Django stuff, can not find Django movies locally at all.....same with Sartana, big shame brick and mortar stores wont stock these movies. Xbox One S has built in 4k right now, arguably best entry level 4k player (It may not be the best 4k player out there, but its an Xbox PLUS a 4k player, saves shelf space on my AV rack). PS4 will play 4k digital files but no built in 4k player, next Christmas both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will have built 4k optical drives so go ahead and buy 4k discs now if your going to upgrade your game system next Christmas (2020). Still need those Mothra/Godzilla blu's.......I need a 3rd job. (1 for bills, 1 for Warhammer and 1 for movies, hehe). Love that you slid a book in there, books are just as important as movies, whether informative non fiction to fiction that eventually turns into video ie The Witcher or Good Omens. Sweet video, liked this one alot. :) Episode Idea: When to upgrade from DVD to Blu to 4k, what is your criteria Ie, fav movie, skipped a format, probably a short video, but maybe not. If you already did one b4 disregard. Edit, spelling/grammar.
Not to criticize, but I believe the Xbox is equivalent to the cheapest 4K players, except you pay a little more and get an Xbox One. The Xbox One S is my player too, it no longer is the cheapest option but you still get a lot of bang for the buck. Hopefully the next gen consoles will help push 4K media. I agree that a discussion about upgrading would be worth having. I, myself, find that there are diminishing returns for every leap forward and while I may be inclined (but not necessarily) to purchase 4Ks going forward, I don't find a need to replace my Blurays with 4Ks unless it's something I really want.
Good video and thanks for all the good work, guys. I was disappointed that James on Cinemassacre said that despite his collection streaming has won in his house and he’ll even stream stuff he owns physically. But it is there for we who want it. I just wish the selection in stores was better. I’d like to pay cash for this stuff, but there’s slim pickings besides the newest movies in stores. And great point about “This Island Earth.” They misjudged several movies, but that was there biggest misstep imo. I still love the riffers, though.
Oh hey, almost forgot, shout out to the Teen Titans Complete Series set. There's nothing special that's not already available on the individual seasons, but i just discovered this series (after watching the entire Teen Titans Go series) and it's the greatest thing ever. I highly recommend this
I don't think I've seen any Teen Titans outside of the occasional snippet from flipping channels way back in the day. I love the Titans comics, but I thought the series aimed really young and never gave it much time. Sounds like I might have been missing out!
There might be lots of physical media releases but the amount of each title is my guess half of what it used to be. This years friends' Christmas list consisted of many new titles and they couldn't find them anywhere other than Amazon and we have a Cinema 1, Jumbo Video, 2 Best Buys, 6 Walmarts, 3 Sunrise Records (which also sell videos), 5 EB Games (which are limited on video media but a small selection of 4K blu-rays) and The Beat Goes On and that also doesn't include the well over 10 smaller businesses that sell physical media..
Sales are down (WAY down), as the mainstream media-consuming audience is perfectly fine letting Netflix decide what they watch. As a result, movie collecting has gone back to being a niche market like it was in the laserdisc days, although we have it way better now than we did in the 90s. A specialized market isn't the same as a dead market, as we seem to be living in a golden age for physical media in terms of selection, price, and online availability. We have a whole video about this topic, if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/FhkSuLenqV0/видео.html
@@CerealAtMidnight Yes, I have seen that video. I also feel the shoplifting has increased and is very liable at least in my general area. I seen a crook with an entire arms length of 4K Blu-rays and he just casually put them in a black reusable shopping bag and proceeded to pick up 3 other reusable bags and casually walk right by 3 workers at Walmart that just stood there talking to each other and I told them about the situation and they simply asked who and I said that guy. They turned and clearly seen him and went back talking. The same with 4 cashiers and the greeter even told the guy to have a nice day even though he set off the alarm. People say that Walmart won't stop criminals now because it's not worth the hassle or lawsuit if the criminal gets injured. It wasn't that long ago when all the stores that would sell physical media have well over 300 titles+ in their store and now it's been segregated to usually no more than 50 titles and of those titles 10 are new releases. It doesn't matter to myself because I'm running out of wall space for movies/TV series/physical media. I had to get rid of over 7,000 movies when I renovated my man cave and have to be particularly picky on what I purchase because I'm limited with space.
Popeye!!! I love Alibaba and the 40 thieves episodes. Jetsons!!! This is great 👍 having a physical copy doesn’t hit people till the digital gets removed.
No worries at all! So much comes out each year, it's hard to keep it all straight sometimes! Just another testament to what a great time we're living in to be fans of film history.
it looks like you didn't get the Monty Python blu-ray set, because i assure you it wuold shot right up the top of your list. aside from the shipping issues most buyers encountered, it is an aweome and weird box, but a near perfect restauration, and an actual book (140+pages) with each seasons. it was not cheap, but worth every penny,
The box itself is one of the things holding me back. It seems overly elaborate and fragile, and I’d much rather have a standard plastic case that I can slip next to their movies on my shelf. But this vote of confidence from you has me intrigued!
@@CerealAtMidnight i think the elaborate box is part of the joke. It feels very Monty Pyton. It's even more awkward when you open it. Also, i'm not sure the books will be available once they release the individual seasons. But i actually don't know anything about that
Great list! The title says best Blu-rays of 2019 , but isn’t He-man , Thundercats , SheRa on regular dvds? I bought the He-man on Amazon but I haven’t opened it yet, so Iam not sure what format it’s in
You bought DVDs. Our title doesn't say "Best Blu-rays of 2019." It says "Favorite Blu-rays of 2019." And our opening statements of the video tell you exactly what we're doing. I think the title "Favorite DVDs, Blu-rays, 4Ks, Music/CD/box set releases, and books of 2019" is more than a little clunky, so it was streamlined to focus on what we spend the majority of the video covering.
Heath, jus wanted to throw this out there. You should give Days Gone a try on ya PS4.I dunno if you've heard of it or not, but I think you'd love it.Jus update it first.Love your content an would love to hear your thoughts on it as well.Happy New Year, Midnights..

@@CerealAtMidnight man, you're right. They're technically still alive, they can be cured in this world, they're not the undead. That's jus the developers schtick.I think you would like the story. It's akin to a Netflix series, the characters are well written. Also when it's updated, it's jus gorgeous. You could easily have 300 "freakers" running at you at one time.An it's cheap.Anyway, thank you for your time.I preciate you replyin back, brother...
If you're into music and anything radio related, I would say WKRP is ESSENTIAL viewing. As mentioned in this video, we will have more to say about the subject into the new year, but if you dig 70s and 80s television, radio history, and rock and roll music, then WKRP is going to be a big hit for you. My only advice is don't buy the sets from eBay and only support an authorized dealer like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and so on. There are some REALLY convincing bootlegs out there that are almost impossible to tell from the real thing until you pop a disc in and realize how bad it looks. I know because I got suckered myself and had to re-buy a legitimate set.
Marshomon It’s true, and we love our Canadian friends! Our comment is just a little tongue and cheek because that’s who always writes us correcting our French pronunciation. 😉
I think physical media is now becoming more for the specialist collector so we are getting some great releases of less mainstream stuff. With newer films the bonus features are a bit bland but I think older films are better, maybe because the passage of time means people are more honest.
In the end, I decided not to talk about comics, as it would have been very Marvel focused. I read virtually none of DC's 2019 continuity, and I can't think of any DC trades I picked up during the year either. I'm actually starting to go more and more digital with comics. However, I'd love to know what you would like to highlight from the world of comics that was published in 2019!
I'm new here, but from watching this, I would have loved it if you let your co-host (Bree?) talk more. If you could have traded movies back and forth, taking turns, that would have been awesome! Most of the time your going on strong and she only has time to nod and "mm-hmm" you. Just a suggestion because I feel there's good potential with a format like that; she seems like she has a lot to say too!
FadedKamui I’m glad you’ve discovered our channel and appreciate you wanting my voice to be heard. Honestly, I talk when I have something to say, and I am quite good at being assertive and advocating for myself. As it happens, this video was more Heath’s vision. That's true. My point was mainly that the next generation of gaming, which will last anywhere from 5-8 years, is going to rely on UHD discs. We get people from time to time who act like 4K UHD is a fad, but it's not. It's about to become not just an option, but the standard.
Kal- El We have done our research. 8K TVs exist, but they are rare and expensive. Also, 8K is not on any streaming format or any physical media releases.
@@breemidnight4995 not going to debate and argue with you again you're proving my point a 8k discs are coming and they will come when there done milking 4K which won't be long you don't have to believe and if you're emotional about it that's fine but you obviously made the comment in the video for people or directly to me so I said something enjoy your day PS just because a console puts 4K in their system doesn't mean it's going to last lol didn't Xbox put HD drives in your system and how long did HD discs last? keep up the good work love to channel Heath
Doesnt even matter, most movies havent even been scanned/transfered at higher than 2k DI wich are then upscaled to 4k. 8k TV's are here sure, but are not ready for mainstream any time soon. Be great for gaming though with a powerful enough rig. But movies, naw, I'm happy with my 4k HDR10 LG, no need to upgrade for a long while.

Heath I love when you do the "deal alerts" I scored assault on precinct 13 steelbook for such a good deal. Thanks!
You're welcome! I love to share those, too.
Didn't realize This Island Earth was a this year release, no wonder I haven't been able to find it locally in my limited selection of stores. Thanks Heath. :)
Special features are arguably my favorite part of purchasing the disc.
English speaking only Canadian here, could not have said that better lol.
I need that He-Man box set. If it wasn't for another collection /cough Warhammer 40k /cough my movie collection would be far more complete than it is now.
Lol, Horror on Snape Tower, sounds very Harry Potter and very very wrong, lol
Damn dude, where you get your Django stuff, can not find Django movies locally at all.....same with Sartana, big shame brick and mortar stores wont stock these movies.
Episode Idea: When to upgrade from DVD to Blu to 4k, what is your criteria Ie, fav movie, skipped a format, probably a short video, but maybe not.
@@CerealAtMidnight you did. It has a lot of Anime influences and is a ton of fun.
Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet is on Umbrella Entertainment.
Very nice. Forgot a few (*cough*Spider Baby*cough*) but all in all great stuff there.
Spider Baby came out in 2015. I am very grateful to you for not only putting it on my radar, but gifting it to me, however. Thank you!
@@CerealAtMidnight My bad. Thought it was a new one.
No worries at all! So much comes out each year, it's hard to keep it all straight sometimes! Just another testament to what a great time we're living in to be fans of film history.
Looking forward to getting Batman Beyond on Bluray, released at the very end of 2019.
it looks like you didn't get the Monty Python blu-ray set, because i assure you it wuold shot right up the top of your list. aside from the shipping issues most buyers encountered, it is an aweome and weird box, but a near perfect restauration, and an actual book (140+pages) with each seasons. it was not cheap, but worth every penny,
The box itself is one of the things holding me back.
But i actually don't know anything about that
Loved the video
Double Dragon (1994) Is A Cool Movie!
Long live physical media........
Well I sure hope so!
Tower of Evil is great, have the Odeon (UK) release.
Heath, jus wanted to throw this out there. You should give Days Gone a try on ya PS4.I dunno if you've heard of it or not, but I think you'd love it.Jus update it first.Love your content an would love to hear your thoughts on it as well.Happy New Year, Midnights..
Hey, Michael! Isn't Days Gone another zombie survival horror game? If I'm wrong, let me know. I'm just so burned out on zombie survival entertainment, but if there's something special about, I'm all ears.
That double dragon Blu Ray has a episode of the cartoon
Yep, and the cartoon itself got a full series release later in 2019 also.
Would you Recommend WKRP in Cincinnati to me ? I’m into music and anything radio related.
Canadians? Angry? Unless they're playing hockey, that's impossible!
Marshomon It’s true, and we love our Canadian friends! Our comment is just a little tongue and cheek because that’s who always writes us correcting our French pronunciation. 😉
I have not been able to watch season 2 of He-Man yet. Would you happen to remember which episodes are messed up?
It was a couple of discs. If memory serves, discs 2 and 4, possibly, but not the whole season.
@@CerealAtMidnight I'll see if I notice the difference once I get that far. Thank you. I hope you both have a happy new year!
Happy New Year, Wheels!
I think physical media is now becoming more for the specialist collector so we are getting some great releases of less mainstream stuff. With newer films the bonus features are a bit bland but I think older films are better, maybe because the passage of time means people are more honest.
Did they rerelease vehicle voltron?
Yes, I believe the two sets are sold individually, for those that don't want the whole thing.
How do I find a email for a studio when I get a defective DVD and the store has no more?
Go to their website and there should be a "contact us" link
I will never understand digital. Physical all the way! :)
Can you please tell me where you got all these movies would like to buy them
Almost everything in this video is available from Amazon.
Xbox series x also gonna have a 4k drive!!
Nice to see that Microsoft are continuing this. Their One S/X is an affordable 4K player with a great gaming console attached.
Not enough new editions of older comics for a recap?
In the end, I decided not to talk about comics, as it would have been very Marvel focused. I read virtually none of DC's 2019 continuity, and I can't think of any DC trades I picked up during the year either. I'm actually starting to go more and more digital with comics. However, I'd love to know what you would like to highlight from the world of comics that was published in 2019!
Those who say physical media is dying. To me they just don't know how to look.
I was there to interject and be supportive. There are videos with both of us where we talk much more conversationally, especially movie reviews.
@@breemidnight4995 Yeah, I've watched more videos since I wrote that and subscribed and see what you mean. You two are a great team. Love your channel! ^_^
FadedKamui Thank you!! ☺️ So glad you found the channel! Welcome to our community!
You talked about ps5 but dude you can already play in 4k, just get a Xbox one x
That's true. My point was mainly that the next generation of gaming, which will last anywhere from 5-8 years, is going to rely on UHD discs. We get people from time to time who act like 4K UHD is a fad, but it's not. It's about to become not just an option, but the standard.
Damn, she's cute
it's is a fact that 8k exist lol but ok little research and you see that but ok we will see
Kal- El We have done our research. 8K TVs exist, but they are rare and expensive. Also, 8K is not on any streaming format or any physical media releases.
@@breemidnight4995 not going to debate and argue with you again you're proving my point a 8k discs are coming and they will come when there done milking 4K which won't be long you don't have to believe and if you're emotional about it that's fine but you obviously made the comment in the video for people or directly to me so I said something enjoy your day
PS just because a console puts 4K in their system doesn't mean it's going to last lol didn't Xbox put HD drives in your system and how long did HD discs last?
keep up the good work love to channel Heath
Doesnt even matter, most movies havent even been scanned/transfered at higher than 2k DI wich are then upscaled to 4k. 8k TV's are here sure, but are not ready for mainstream any time soon.
Be great for gaming though with a powerful enough rig. But movies, naw, I'm happy with my 4k HDR10 LG, no need to upgrade for a long while.
Kal- El No need to be disrespectful over something so arbitrary. You don’t have to agree but you don’t have to be rude about it either.
@@MrRyland04 wasn't being rude actually
