- Benchmarking the nVidia GTX 980 Ti 6GB graphics card against 12 popular games in 2022 on an average gaming PC.
With prices on the used market finally turning in the right direction, there’s a whole lot of good graphics cards available for between £150 and £200. With new options like the RX 6500 XT proving disappointing, and the GTX 1650 in need of an update, old flagships like the 2015 GTX 980 Ti could still prove to have what it takes to fill a gap in the market. With 6GB of VRAM, full DX12 compatibility and current driver support, should this be your next graphics card?

Aye this is my current gpu, she's a legend. Also first comment so pin me for chad status or somthing.
I confer upon thee the status of Chad. Use thy powers wisely.
Wow thanks, also love these scalper pandemic gpu reviews keep up the great work
I love my 980 ti
Couldn't agree more, this gpu is kicking hard even in 2022. i run cyberpunk 2077 prety well.
I'm about to sell this gpu soon, cause i wanna explore more gpu. espically brand new gpu such rtx 3060 or radeon 6600.
But i cannot lie this gpu is beast from the beggining untill now. if you guys had a minimum budget, i suggest to try this card. when the price is reasonable. :D
I just replaced my 980 ti with a rtx 3080 12gb I love it
I think the 980Ti can fit in 2 more years because of driver support. I bought mine during the highest possible gpu prices but I still payed lower than current prices, I love my 980Ti, an absolute chad of a gpu for it's age.
Dude !! I remplaced my msi 980 for a ‘gigabyte 980 ti xtreme overclock’ … what a beast. I play at 1440p so its enough for my need. I was very impressed by the jump in performance between the 980 and 980 ti. Mine run at 1443mhz.
Just got a 980 ti for 90 USD! EVGA Classified. Upgraded from a rx 570
Yo, I play Warzone 2 on my 9 year old Laptop on an Ultrawide 3440x1440 with balanced AMD FSR ~42 frames. Guess what: GTX 980m inside. Of course I'm not competitive but the game runs steady, no stuttering whatsoever and works for the DMZ mode just fine. Latest driver support. That's how I skipped the PS4.
I remember when the 980 ti came out.. It always was and always will be a beast in my memories
still running like a beast with 32 gb of ram for my 4k tv for war thunder i play on prob cause it only gets 40 hz(fps)
This GPU was an good deal back then. My 980Ti served me well for 4 years, being clocked at 1400MHz without touching the Vcore.
An added bonus with the GTX 900 series is that they're the latest Nvidia GPUs that support Windows XP (officially only the GTX 960, but the 970/980/980 ti can be used by modifying some files for the driver installer).
So if you wanted an overkill retro gaming rig, you got urself an excellent card.
It's also the last card u can use with a VGA monitor all newer cards have digital DVI only...
Other than that, you can also use a GTX 970/980 TI not only for a great 1080p/1440p experience in most of today's titles, but also for playing late Windows XP/early to mid Windows 7 era games with it, which is a huge spot on if you wanna build a gaming PC for both retro and modern gaming.
Picked up a 980ti hybrid when new; rode my first gen i7 with it til 2020. Still have it in a NAS and works well; thank you for covering what is still a decent card despite its age.
Glad to see high end Nvidia aged a bit better than comparable AMD GPUs of that time, but tbh both the 980 and fury series have remarkable longevity
such a great video. i loved the bits of information about the games you played. like the tunnels being specially demanding and so on. great mix of jokes and delivery of useful information. thank you
My 980 Ti has been a massive legend these past years. Kind of contemplating getting the 6650 XT for 280$ and finally releasing it from its long years of suffering but man the new Nvidia and AMD cards are about to drop :c
I upgraded from my old faithful 980 ti to a 3070 ti. The difference is insane since I now own a 4k monitor but when I ran it with a 1080-monitor it was truly a great GPU. I´ve saved my 980 ti and am now building a setup for my son. With new CPU/mobo and RAM the 980 ti will run well on most games at 1080! An amazing card!
I really wasn’t that far off 😂, another fine video good sir! 💪
7:00 LOL! The way you pronounced that I just had to turn on the subtitles to see what they would say.😳😅
Pff, auto generated subtitles are always getting it wrong. I clearly say Rainbow Sick Sex Traction!
Bought this early last year for wayy too much (compared to pre-shortage but less than most 10 series at the time), but has been completely serviceable for everything i throw at it today. With a NZXT Kraken G12 and a 120 AIO on it stays cool and silent for all my gaming needs. Whenever I get a chance to get my hands on a reasonably priced 30/40 series card it'll go into another family member's PC for a serious upgrade to what they have (R7 360)!
Thank you for doing this review! I've been looking all over the place at benchmarks for this exact card & I recently just purchased it & it should be here Tuesday so really I'm excited to put it into my new pc since the graphics card I'm running currently is 11 years old LMAO since my last card kept artifacting when it hit higher temperature
Congrats you're going to love the card. I've had it for 6 years now
@@korn2040 yeah I've enjoyed it a lot so far! All of the games that I'm running on it have ran flawlessly
@@TechSaintHD it's an amazing card i also play vr with it and it works flawless
Bought EVGA 980 TI Hybrid three days ago for 200 € for my back up PC. It runs really cool and quietly under 50 C after max overclock.
I owned 1070 and also 1660 Ti, but this card after OC is more powerfull than both of them OCied.
how about testing these cards also for video rendering?
I got a EVGA 980 ti classified for $147 shipped. Really excited to see how it performs.
Suscribed!!! Good content.
Tesla M40 12GB is sold on ebay for $115-120. In fact, this is a complete analogue of the GTX Titan X, with the same performance, only without video outputs. But there is an option to use this Telsa M40 as discrete graphics using an iGPU or a second discrete graphics card as video output. Drivers are installed from both Quadro M6000 and Titan X (manually).
Yes, I've seen videos from Miyconst and Craft Computing about the M40, it looks like an interesting project. Unfortunately, the price doesn't make much sense in the UK today, at least as a bargain priced alternative to other GPUs. M40 prices appear to have gone up, presumably because the sellers know what they've got their hands on. They now cost around £180-200 shipped from the US, plus a further £40-50 in import duties... say it's at least £250 to get an M40 in the UK (that's about $350, I think). Now that prices are falling, that puts the M40 into the same ballpark as cards like the GTX 1070Ti and 1080, and could almost net you an RTX 2060 or RX 6600.
I guess I should have made a video about it a few months ago, back when Titan Xs were £400, but I think I've missed the boat!
I remember paying £270 for a MSI gaming 980TI about a year ago with a battered backplate and a lot of sag
Hopefully we see these drop to sub £100 soon
I picked up a gtx980 to hybrid for 50 dollars
Really happy
My RTX 2080 Super quit on me. I'm using the GTX 980 Ti. It's as good as I remember from 2019 before I got the 2080. It played Borderlands 3 without a hiccup.
Along with the affordable cost at the time of purchase, this is the reason I went with the R5-5600g.
Would you say stay on 471.11 for performance on 980ti?
I was a proud owner of the EVGA Hybrid 980ti for over 5 years, I finally upgraded to a 6800XT this may.
Damn that's along time to have that weak card
Thank you my friend. Great video... keep it up..... can you give it a try rx 5804gb ....gtx 1660
I just built my first pc since 2019. It's running an 8700k and a 980 ti. I'm shocked at how well it still does.
got a 980 ti for 90 dollars a few weeks ago building a bugdet gaming rig for my son :)
hi iceburg i might upgrade to the non ti version of this eventually right now im commenting on my first pc i just finished yesterday 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Question: Would using 980ti with a modern 22 or 23's processor, upgrade it's performance?
I'm using it since 2015 with a 4790k processor, I'd like an upgrade but can't afford paying for a whole new rig at once, so i thought that i could upgrade the graphics card later, maybe with 5x series of nvidia
any thought?
if u get 4 GHZ on it dont get a new processor until u get probably get a new g card(or at least a modern motherboard), incase it doesnt work
Go with an AM4 Ryzen system. Relatively recent platform- very affordable and game worthy.
If you must go AM5, wait until Ryzen 8xxx series CPUs come out.
Personally I would get a B550 motherboard and a Ryzen R5-5600. The money you save can go towards a RX 6700xt or RTX3060ti
PS: I would not get the current gen AMD or NVIDIA line, unless the decision is over power consumption or heat reasons, like a compact ITX build.
can i put a 980ti on the z790 mobo?
Music link pls
just got a 980ti hybrid my dream card when I was younger
for 50
Halo Infinite open world segment at 1080p Low settings runs at 5 FPS for my 980 Ti. I have the latest drivers and an Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.20GHz. Everything ran fine until open world.
I know they dropped support for the 900-series during the second test flight and the minimum on Low now rests on the 1050 Ti, but it looks like you and others are running the game fine with the 980 Ti. Any idea why mine is struggling?
Ah! So, last week I uploaded a video about the non-Ti 980 in which it did the same thing. I managed to resolve it by rolling back my drivers to 512.15, which is the driver set I used for the 980Ti video.
I know 527.37 released today, but I haven't had chance to look and see if that fixes 900 series results in Halo.
Had one for over 6 proud years of ownership (half of the time on 1080p monitor, the other on 1440p even playing cyberpunk with some FSR ) and I recently sold to my cousin and bought used 3060ti to take it's place, the GPU still going strong in his PC for 1080p e-sports and even some of the AAA games from 2022-23
I still have an old aio evga Titan X (900 series / Maxwell).
I have two of the zotac amp extreme versions with one in my daughter’s computer.
Just bought a 980 Ti, same exact MSI card too. Gonna pair it with an i5-6600k I got for $80 and sell it as a budget PC. The 980 Ti is basically a rx 6600 anyway.
It's not even close to an rx 6600 since the rx 6600 is better than gtx 1080, it's basically a 1070 or even better with slight overclock.
I remember this being one of the first GPUs I was looking at for my first PC build last year. In the end, I chose to go with a 3060 (Which has treated me very well), but I have always wanted to test a 980 Ti if I got the chance. That, and the Titan X (If I can find it for a decent price).
Still rocking it baby 🤟 I survived the crypto bubble with it and although it’s old, 1080p is still great on settings less than ultra. I should look for an upgrade though..
Legendary card. In fact, all GTX 900 series was very good performer, and most cards from this lineup still are.
Does anybody know the background music ?
It's called "Gentlemen, Please Be Seated", and it's from Rhapsody Stream soundcloud.com/rhapsodystream
I owned one for a day before it died and i can buy one now but im scared i might regret it but this vid really makes me think bout giving the card one more chance 🤔😅
One of the best video cards to use if you want to make a dual boot system with Windows XP and 11.
Iv got a 980ti blower style missing a fan for 90£
Bought 1070 evga double fan heatsink and cooler
Had to bend few fins
But all fitted and
Temps are great
Idle 30
Gaming 70
Good gpu still✊✊✊🏿
can you do a vid on thre rx 470 570 please?
I’m holding out until I can get one for under £100, but I do plan on making a video on one of these. In the meantime, I made a video on the 470 last year: ruclips.net/video/b7J6GHl7ttM/видео.html
I just bought a McLaren. It idles at 15 watts and maxes at 250(powersaving mode). My rx 6650 xt idles at 3.5 and maxes at 143. $60 for my 980ti is worth it for occasional gaming and having a backup gpu. Best to run on integrated Graphics the rest of the time tho! Heck my 13900k idles at 3.
Still using GTX 980Ti since 2015.
same ive been since it came out, it was my first pc
THIS IS STILL MY CURRENT GPU. I can run War thunder and some other games at 4k with above 60 fps its amazing. All it needed was an upgrade to 32 Gb of ram instead of 16 , 2 years ago.
I recently built a new AM4 system with an R5-5600g/RTX 3060ti- to replace my older AM4 system R5-1600/GTX980ti (then I was able to upgrade the bios of my x370motherboard= updated to another R5/5600g) Donated old computer to my brother.
I only worry how much longer NVIDIA will continue driver updates (why I had to retire a GTX780ti before its time)
What should I go for i3 10100f+gtx980ti or i3 10100f+gtx1060, pls reply
The 980Ti performs better overall, though in some DX12 and Vulkan titles they will be much closer in performance. OTOH, if you want to play at super high FPS, the CPU might be the limiting factor; in Valorant or CSGO you won't see a benefit to the more powerful card, for example.
Also, the 1060 runs on about half the power of the 980Ti, so it will cost more in the long run.
@@IcebergTech the power consumption of 980ti is a major problem, 10606gb is still a good option for medium gaming. Thanks man, appreciate your response
you guys think this card will receive atleast 1 year of driver att?
I hope so, but I don’t know for sure
My palit 980ti Jetstream is a beast, but now i install Asus rtx 3060 ti MK2 gddr6x dual.
I realise this might be pedantic, but Maxwell was most certainly ridiculously efficient. They were still on 28nm, and the 980 pulled less than 175W when it came out, and still beat the 780ti. 980ti was also faster than Fury X, even when that card could draw down 300W.
What about the 1070 and 1080?
They're a definite possibility, maybe later in the year if I can find a good deal.
I got a Titan X maxwell for $200 during the shortage which was very nice to have at the time. Then I got a 3090 and that made me feel like I got legs again haha
Had mine since 2017 but she's showing her age, might retire her to media player duty and go for the RX 6600 xt for another 3-4 years
I still had the 980Ti, until now I can play very well in 1080p at 60frames, In any case, I think it's time to sell it, because I don't think they will continue releasing drivers for much longer.
i just got one for my backup rig. 100 dollars for a evga 980ti sc2. That will be my main one when i sell my 3080.
i got a question will gtx 980 run 2023/2024 games?
Hard to say really. If nVidia decide to discontinue some more drivers, the 900 series is next in line for the chopping block. That being said, it's DX12.1 compatible so, even if drivers do get discontinued, you might find it stays relevant a little longer than the GTX 780 did.
Nice, I still run a gtx 980 from msi. Ordered today a ‘untested as-is’ 980 Ti from gigabyte for 50$ Canadian. Cool weekend project to come.
Pretty sure, if the card dont boot, thats a fault from one of the 12v rail. Or maybe a bunk vbios.
you can get one on ebay for like 100 bucks
currently, I used msi gtx 980. still good and powerful.
msi is the best
@@StealthyShot yes, bro.
I got mine for $250 USD its a Classified (always wanted one) and Im thinking to sell a RTX3070 and a P5000 to stay with this 980TI because My CPU isnt that fast (R7 1700)
Would you be able to get 980 ti performance by overclocking the 980?
I've never owned a 980, so I can't say for sure. The performance difference according to TPU is about 15%, so I suppose it's possible that an overclocked 980 could catch up, if you get a good enough sample and can live with only 4GB of VRAM... but then again, you can also overclock the 980Ti :)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I run all un ultra warzone 60 , 80, 90 fps wiht 980ti Omega amp , 1412gpu clock
Got a 1070 for 150 Last week :D
how?
i got a 1660 super for £140 today!
Wondering how gtx 980ti performs with 2 of the cards running
I ran two in SLI for about 5 years pushing 3 Qnix 2710 monitors for a res of 7680x1440. Many AAA games ran fine at epic settings. Some with less optimization I had to downgrade a bit.
Do a quick bios mod set the power limit to 300 watt+ 1450mhz+ core and +500 memory
The 980ti was my highest upgrade of that time until I switch to 1080ti. Now I'm hesitate to buy the new gen because of their instability, maybe I check out AMD
I have two evga oc. Still is fine. Close to 1080. Paid $120 each b4 the covid bs.
Stop lying a 980ti is no we’re near a 1080. It’s slower than a 1070.
a 980Ti is actually in some specific area better then a 1070 but over all it basically the same level of power and quality. I am using a MSI 980 Ti for the last 6 years and the card is still running like butter. I am building a new pc and I will be sure to still use my power block, GPU, storage hard drives and even fans. Overall THE PC WILL BE A BEAST because of the DDR5 5600Mhz and i9-13900K xD but it will be fun to see how the GPU likes the new upgrades.
Nah the 1070 is faster than a 980ti and it has more vram as well. Just like how the 2070 super is faster than a 1080ti know. When the 1080ti was on par with a 2080 at launch.
@@ZackSNetwork Sadly no check the comparisons. I checked what other pages said and was surprised as well and my friend has a 1070 and I taught it will be funny just to check if what was said is actually true. And funny enough when doing 3D mark and (1 more test forgot the name) I came in first with a 980Ti it was not by a lot but in gaming it was number one. For data transfering like video rendering and so on then yeah a 1070 would be number one but it is also not by a large amount.
@@ZackSNetwork Well if I look comparison between 980 ti and 1070 all of them show 980ti better. Not even after so many years I still don't see any updates. But I will give you benefit of daught and will go to my friend I think he still has his 1070 and I will compare my old 980Ti GPU with his 1070 with the most newest drivers.
i can buy a used rog strix one for $170 should I buy it ?
If you can't get a GTX 1070 or Vega 56 for the same price, or an RTX 2060 for $200, then yes.
@@IcebergTech I'm confused because now I'm still using the gtx titan black, is there any significant improvement going to 980ti from titan black ?
@@juan59198 the Titan Black is a generation older than the 980Ti and is not a good buy in 2022. It can't run a lot of modern games, and the ones it can run won't run as well. It used to cost $1000US, which is why it might have retained some value, but that isn't reflected in performance.
@@juan59198 sorry, just read your comment properly. Yes, it's a worthy upgrade, if only for gaining DX12 compatibility. You should get about 20% higher FPS in DX11 games too.
You should do a MacBook video for your scalper pandemic series because they have good performance
I've given it some thought, though if I did it would be a way into the future. Were you thinking Intel or M1/M2?
@@IcebergTech hmm I honestly have no idea probably the m2 in a long while when it’s really old
💣😃
Someone offering me this card for $160 is it a good deal? Or should i wait?
That seems about right. As for waiting, it depends. If you're waiting for more interesting stuff to drop to $200 or below, then the RTX 2060 / 2060 Super / 2070 might be prime candidates as new RTX 4000 cards get released and old mining rigs get sold off. If you were thinking of waiting for a brand new $160 option, I wouldn't bother- the GTX 1630 won't be a good buy, and I think a 1650 successor is a while off. The RX 6400 and 6500 XT are options, but they have their fair share of flaws that have been well documented.
Thankyou so much for the answer it really helped me decide and maybe I should buy the card, btw its a Gigabyte windforce 980ti.
Although I have other concerns especially the compatibility of this card to my current build.
Ryzen 3 3100
A320-S2h
8x2gb ram
500w power supply.
Driver updates are canceled for this card. That will be a big problem for future gamea
Thanks for the info, but do you have a source for that? The last I heard was that drivers are still supported from Maxwell 1.0 onwards.
I just got one for £45
Still think this GPU is a beast
look ma, it's my gpu
Sold it during pandemic for twice I bought it forinitially, Was a really good card especially when overclocked (some reach nearly 1700mhz on air).
But yeah if you want to get 100% performance out of it, Be prepared for your GPU taking 300w+
I’m confident the MSI Gaming model had plenty more performance to give, but it developed a nasty habit of crashing during the Battle Royale tests. I need to test it out on a better PSU before I sell it, otherwise I’ll have to sell it as faulty and take a loss!
Mclaren F1 was my favorite car in my life xD
also 980ti is still best vga. there is no doubt
