I also have a 980 Ti Hybrid. And even though I also have an RTX 3080 FE, I have the 980 Ti installed in the same PC.
There are some games that I prefer to play on either a CRT monitor, or my large Sony CRT television, including some older titles - and even some modern shooters that require twitch reflexes.
Since the 980 Ti has an analog output, going directly into an analog CRT display allows me to play with literally zero lag. It's surprising how you feel the difference instantly, and reminds me of how it felt like when I was playing Quake or Doom back in the 90s.
Also, some games just look much better on a CRT display. There is definitely something about the Cathode Ray glow that simply cannot be replicated. Having the analog DVI output is almost priceless at this point. Especially as this was the last flagship card ever made that still had an analog output.
Having the hybrid water cooler means that the card will likely last as long as I do. I'm fairly certain that it will outlast my 3080 also...

I had an Asus 980ti and it was really nice. I still remember how heavy and well built it seemed when I first took it out of the box. It was very impressive. On a 1080ti now and won't upgrade for some time. I don't play that much anymore and I don't want to fork out what they are asking for even mid tier cards.

i had this exact card last year before i moved to another old piece the 1080 ti. 980 ti is and was imo the best overclocking card ever made by NVIDIA you can get 25% of the performance depending on the scenario by modifying the Vbios and the power and voltage limit so you can get 1500mhz on the core. Absolute monster and was a big mistake made by NVIDIA.

I wasn't allowed to have screens when I was a kid. When I got a job at 16 I spent my first 5-6 paychecks building a PC. The EVGA GeForce GTX 980 ti was the star of the build.
It lasted me nearly a decade. I just built a new PC, and I'm looking to use the old card in a new build

Quick one: I have a GTX970 (3.5+512 as you know) which rocked Halo Infinite on 2560x1080 on my screen just fine on Medium. After precisely driver 513.xx went from 45fps to 7fps. Unfortunately nobody seems to believe that nVidia nerfs older cards. I have to add that I tested this throughout my 4 systems ranging from i3-i9 and 16gb to 64gb so reverted the driver and … got back the performance. Maxwell 2.0 is doomed due to this practice

nice, well done, great work on the vid. 980ti is such a solid gpu for sure. your cards boost clock of 1418 is ok, better ones are in the 1450+. try using afterburner and doing 1500 on the stock cooler, then youll know if you have a a good one. also the 980ti kingpins card cooler weighs 950g.

I still run one of these, albeit in my rather... um... retrogeek gaming system. I actually don't game on my modern Windows system, despite a high refresh rate monitor and modern graphics card... I love it, but for some reason, there is a vibe I'm looking for when I get lost in games.
It is the last generation of Nvidia cards to have DVI-I and I run a CRT on that system, at 1600x1200 @ 75hz. It is a EVGA model, and at $80 (recent purchase) I cannot fault it, in the least. I paired it with dual Xeon 5680s... and I can sometimes actually push it to 100%. Prior to using the 980ti, I was running a Titan Black - and this card absolutely wipes the floor with the older Titan.
When I bought this card, I was desperately searching for a reasonable price on a Quadro m6000, but like many flagship workstation cards - it just hasn't dropped far enough to warrant it. I wanted to see what a 980 with 12gb would be like, but I am pretty sure it wouldn't quite match it - especially since the Titan X seems to trail behind.
I'm currently looking to replace my retro-gaming rig with a new sysyem, and the 980ti is one of the key parts of that refresh - my old Xeon system just can't drive the card hard enough in cRPGs (CPU heavy stuff I suppose). I acquired a case from a very cheap Marketplace ad ($10!) - and it is perfect for a sleeper of sorts - I believe it is the Antec P160w from 2005-6... I didn't even ask the specs on the motherboard/cpu/gpu because it just fit what I wanted... Turns out those parts were cool too (MSI board, 3870 with that weird copper coil fan style, Phenom II x6 processor).
Thanks for giving some love to the 980ti, 8 years later and I'm still pretty impressed by this hungry little beast...

@@nexus_tech For myself, I will only know years after the fact, LOL... Can't help it, I think I'm addicted to last (or last, last, last) gen tech.
My first step up in monitors, over 60 hz, is my current one - it's a 165hz, but... it's an Acer from Walmart, LOL. It pairs well with the RX6600 in the machine, but... the 75hz from the CRT... That may have been my recent impactful moment - realizing that CRTs, by their nature, instantly render input...

@@nexus_tech absolutely! Most 980 Ti models should hit 1490-1520 MHz on air cooling. And about 7800-8200 MHz on the memory, basically surpassing the TITAN X by a fair amount.

Last Nivida top end card to support true analog out via the DVI connector plus i can use it with my 1080p plasma for HD gaming and it still preforms well for my needs. £70 (im happy with that)

Before anyone comments anything vile: I also have a voodoo2 in tandem with a nvidia gt430 and the whole Pascal series of mainstream cards and decided to stop at the 3060Ti which I have in tandem with a Quadro for my workstation. I don’t throw away good tech just because the manufacturer deems it unworthy of good drivers.

I still use my Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti XTREME 6GB. Can still play new games on medium to high (even epic on some games) on 1080p monitor. I paid around $730 back in March, 2016. Yeah, it was a lot of money back then, but the performance and quality it offered was unmatched and I haven’t encountered a game that I couldn’t play up till Ark Survival Ascended. Released a bit more than a month ago. I can play Ark Survival Ascended on low and couple of medium settings, averaging 37-60fps, but that’s not the way to play that game. On the other hand, even RTX 4090 struggles with that game on 4K Ultra settings.

I had a Gigabyte windforce 980 Ti which i replaced just this year in january... (even if i didnt actually needed to)
I upgraded to AM5 with a 7800X3d from an i7 7700k (needed a gaming cpu upgrade because i am mostly cpu bound) and thought my 980 Ti could be replaced too... Since GPU power was not the mainpoint i only bought the 8gb 4060 Ti though.

I just bought one of these for 60usd. It was quite impressive actually compared to my others. GTX 1060, GTX 1070 TI, Radeon rx 6650 xt, and rx 5700xt. I would have kept it except it draws an obscene amount of power (3x others at idle) should lose support pretty soon and I couldn't get it to display bios screen even with updated firmware.
    Passmark 2d score 1311(96th percentile). And 3d was 14917(68th). 13600k with ddr5.
Speaking of old cards.... Check out selling prices of 3dfx voodoo 5 5500. Should have kept that one! Break out the Duke nuke em and doom. :)

i used to have this...but to tell you the truth i believe the lightning was better in the same tier. I have now the EVGA, much sleeker design. I never believed that the extra features of the gigabyte gave me the advance. So much for today that all these account for 2-3 fps better. In comparison you have a much sleeker and lighter card. But you know. For 90 quid...

It is a good card but the 1070 was always slightly better and with more VRAM and it costs about the same used at least here. Also uses less energy. I’m not sure how they compare these days though but I’d image the 1070 being a never architecture have aged better in 2023 games. 980ti still has its place though. It can be made to work with Win XP if you want and unlike the 1070 has the capacity to display analogue signals out for CRT displays but it is very overkill for retro gaming.
