    Vega 56 does support VRR over HDMI. I also have a Dual Vega 64 rig running VRR over HDMI right next to this computer I'm typing on here. I Googled to make sure it wasn't a quirk in my setup and it isn't. Vega 56 does do Freesync and VRR over HDMI.

    Great video! I didn't think the GTX 980 Ti is such a strong card! Through a HP workstation card I got hold of a Quadro M6000 and turns out it is the workstation version of the Titan X, which is same gen, but a little faster than the 980 Ti. I think it's a keeper, especially for older games / backlog games.

      I bought a Vega 56 early 2019 and am grateful for Amd to continue support for this card bringing new features that they first planned for their 5000/6000 series cards & even now providing driver support for vega 56....but over these 4 years I was little disappointed with Amd especially how they handled their 6000 series with all the driver issues.I was also hoping 7900XT to start with 800$ for my upgrade which eventually Amd lowered it to but did it little too late for me to jump ship to Nvidia 4070t early this year.I am not planning for a 4k upgrade and also wanted to experience Ray-tracing first hand.I hope FSR 3 becomes successful and works well on previous generations.Also would like Amd to release mid-tear GPU before Nvidia as it is this space that Amd actually excels pretty well.

But i will upgrade to the 7900 XT soon caus its not a great exp. to play FPS Games or Cyberpunk 2077 on 1080p. I have massive problems in Battlefield 2042 and Cyberpunk 2077 on lowest settings. The lows are rly not great. Well for 6 years it was rly worth it. I hope the 7900 XT will last a couple of years for 1440p gaming. The 4070 Ti was an option for me but since i wanna keep my GPUs for a long time ill go with the 7900 xt caus of the memory.

    From what I have heard AMD used the same HBM2 memory on vega 56 and 64 but they underclocked it on vega 56 to have a slower and cheaper card to sell. So basically putting the same mV and MHz on the ram of a vega 56 should give it a boost, and it is not really overclocking, more unlocking the potential within the HBM2 specs.

    Playing Elder Scrolls, WoW and GW2, my EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 handles 4k (Hisense 55U8G) with no issues. Yes, eye candy settings are reduced, but as far as game play goes, no issues. I thought my 1080 was dying so bought a 6900XT (scalping still rampant) from AMD. Same black screen issues and it turns out it was my PSU which I was able to RMA. Recently I bought a PowerColor 7900XTX for $999 and while both AMD GPUs allow for max eye candy, the improvement is not $1000 worth. My suggestion is to spend $400 on a 6750 and just enjoy most of the eye candy settings. $1600+ for a 4090 is absurd and overkill for just gaming.

    Also it would be interesting to see how the 1660 Super/Ti would compare as they were within a couple of percent of the 1070 when they released. Since Maxwell/Pascal haven't aged that well in some more recent games it would be interesting to see how they compare, also the 1660 Super/Ti are pretty cheap on the used market right now.

      A 6600K with a 980ti in Hogwarts gets about 50fps. If you have one of these old GPU's, it's time to upgrade to a new GPU, not a new CPU. That 13900K he's using, doesn't make the games play better. This video, should have been used with CPU's of that era combined with an RX 6600 to see if an upgrade really is needed since you upgrade GPU's not CPU's. An RX 6600 is what? Twice as fast as a 1060 for only $220 bucks and will probably get every last FPS out of those old CPU's as well.

    • @TechRIP
      @TechRIP Год назад

      And for more perspective, a 7700K with a 2060 at 1440p plays Cyberpunk at 43fps. Which is what Chris is showing using an expensive, hot and inefficient 13900K that should never be paired with the GPU's being tested. So, no, your question about the 7700K or any other CPU would not matter. Again, you do need a GPU upgrade, not a CPU upgrade. Disregard video's like this.

      I was always impressed with Vega though, even at launch, its Vulkan speed was legendary (and DX12), had great undervolt / overclock ability, and has stood the test of time. Vega56 now beating the 980Ti and 1070 easily, even untweaked. Vega64 is a good 20% faster on top (raw).

      @@anthonyrizzo9043 To be fair, VEGA was late (true), part of it's toolset was geared to industry not jsut gaming (true), and it was expensive, for the first time in forever AMD offered similar or even worse fps/$ than the existing Nvidia lineup. BUT it didn't help that the entire tech press, having their Nvidia cheques in the post for years, all slaughtered the series before it even got established.
      Polaris beat the 1050/1060 series easily, got slated and didn't sell well. RDNA2 has slaughtered RTX in the mid range in a massacre - doesnt matter, sales show 3050's selling like hotcakes, while the 6600XT is 60% faster and the same price.
      Let that sink in .... 60% FASTER SAME PRICE. Still the 3050 sells 8 units to every 1 6600XT.
      If thats not knocking it out the park, then what is? But still don't sell units.
      Polaris beat the 1050/1060 on launch and was cheaper, and today it beats the Pascal series by a huge marging (100% faster in Dead Space 2 remake - 570 vs 1050). Doesn't matter. Sales didn't reflect it.
      I always buy whatever card is best for what I need on upgrade day. Done that since the late 90's. Over the years I've owned hundreds of GPU's. Usually a 50/50 split between nvidia and ati/amd. But these last 10 years, it's been more like a 70/30 split in AMD's favour.
