- Benchmarking the Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 Ti graphics card against 10 popular games in 2021 on an average gaming PC.
Nvidia has announced it is finally discontinuing driver updates for their GTX 600 and 700 series graphics cards later this year. Their timing, in the midst of the Scalper Pandemic, couldn't be worse: top end cards like the GTX 780 Ti could fill the gap left for gamers by the perpetually out-of-stock GTX 1650. Despite its age, can the 780 Ti hold up in 2021?

UPDATE: Apparently COD Warzone's shadow glitch is fixed!
From the perspective of time, the Kepler family looks more like a stop-gap solution, dropped in an unfortunate time, missing some crucial developments. But at the same time it allowed Nvidia to successfully push to the market a mid-range GPU (GK104) in a high-end SKU, with the corresponding price point. On the other hand, the story of the Big Kepler was a bit more contrived. That meaty GPU, packed heavily with HPC and compute hardware logic, was clearly not initially intended for the consumer graphics market, but it was nonetheless pushed there with two SKUs, as an emergency response to the contemporary line of GCN products, to fill the price/perf gap.
Maxwell was the real 28nm star, with top-to-bottom DX12 support and consumer oriented architecture.
Honestly, I have no clue how you have less than 1000 subscribers! I haven't seen such high quality and this much energy put into a video for a long time, let alone by a sub 1k RUclipsr. Keep up the good work bro!
Love the editing
You are soooo under rated how do you only have 200 subs! I have a suggestion for you though, try a game like "escape for tarkov" for a test of a game that is beautiful and demanding
Thanks! EFT does look like an interesting game, I might have to look into it
i have 780 ti founders edition.... ryzen 3200g ... hiperx predator 16gb... ssd... and im playing bf5 from 60-80 frames :D soooo.... it is still fine for me :P
WTF ? I have asus direct cu 2 gold 780ti and i have much more fps ... i play cyberpunk in medium and high setings and i have 50-55 fps ....
I love this gpu. I bought it back then and it still holds up today
Same
So it means this gpu wont be able to play direct12 games? and the shadow bug at warzone is caused by the game or by the gpu?
1) DX12 Exclusive titles won't run on this card or any other Kepler based cards. Some "DX12" games run on the DX11 feature set and will work. Check out PCGamingWiki if in doubt about a particular game's API.
2) The shadow glitch in WZ is apparently fixed, though I haven't tested it myself as I've sold all my Kepler cards.
Would this be an bad investment to get in 2022? Looking at a second hand PC with i7 4930k 3.4ghz, 32 GB RAM. Better than nothing? My current computer is a laptop with integeated graphics from 2014, so it would perhaps be a huge improvement, but perhaps better to save up for another newer rig? 🤔
Well, that PC spec as a whole sounds pretty damn good (although I'm guessing the power costs will be pretty high)! I'd be tempted to pick it up, sell the 780Ti and pick up an RX 470, GTX 970 or similar. The lack of modern APIs has killed the 780Ti in 2022 IMO.
@@IcebergTech Thanks a lot for the reply! I see, so the system might be power consuming you think? It is a concern with current high electricity prices. The Psu is a Corsair AX860, do you think that will draw a lot of electricity? Also, do you think it would run TF2 and stream at the same time with good resolution?
@@LUNARIAproject Nope, sounds like a fantastic PSU. The power supply appears to be 80 Plus Platinum, so it should be less wasteful and more cost-effective to run than a lesser rated PSU. As for TF2, I suspect the 780Ti doesn't have great encoding compared to later GPUs, but TF2 is so lightweight it doesn't need anywhere near the power of a 780Ti to render it. You'll probably be fine!
@@IcebergTech Thanks a lot for the input! Thatbsounds good, after all it is only about 250$ for that PC so I might give it a try, can always sell it if it won't meet my liking. 😉
@@LUNARIAproject Nice! Would love to hear how you get on with it
Those b rolls makes the gpu more sexy. Amazing Vid as always
I just ordered a 780ti now have to order new psu and will test it out :) gpu bebchmark scores are better than my previous RX 580 and gtx 1050ti, only the 3gb vram looks so low nowadays, but most games in my 8gb cards were utilised around 24-40% of vram
Why did you downgrade from RX 580 to GTX 780 Ti ?
@@IgorBozoki1989 the 780 ti has more raw power while an rx 580 has more optimization and it’s just newer and more efficient but he had an 8gb variant 580 which sell for $400+ at the time of his comment while the 780 ti goes for around $180 $200 so he might have wanted the money for similar performance ya know?
@@CrispyStrahan The rx 580 has literally the same performance as a 1060 6GB. The 780 Ti is still a bit slower than the 1060 3gb and draws more power.
@@jrsun What I said was true the 780 ti has more power but the 580 is way more optimized and on a way better architecture.
Mr. Icerberg, I have a problem.
You have put dozens of gpus into your build with the Ryzen 3 3100 without issue.
While on the other hand, my R9 390 8gb wont work in my build with the Ryzen 5 2600x and AsRock ab350m Pro4 but works perfectly with my i7-4790k Asus Prime 97-A
I've narrowed it down to my motherboard, my psu and ssd isn't the problem and I don't believe my ram or cpu is the problem considering there is no incompatibility issues between those two nor is there firmware on the two like a motherboard.
My questions resolves to; should i buy a new motherboard?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: it depends on the board, you also have to look up all the compatible boards for the gpu. Hopefully still ryzen but different board.
Do you have any more graphics cards you can test in the AB350M?
@@IcebergTech yep. My 1050 is my daily driver. When I first got the card I uninstalled the nvidia drivers and the card didn’t work. Reinstalled the nvidia drivers and card didn’t work. All the while the 1050 works in every instance including when paired with the 4790k that has amd drivers on jt
Try forcing PCIE 3.0 in your Bios, it's possible that your mobo is defaulting to PCIE 4.0 and that may be causing the problem.
@@livingthedream915 this mobo doesn’t have pcie 4.0 nor does it have 2.0 it only has 3.0 and the second x16 slot is blocked by my psu shroud on my case.
just bought the kingpin version of this card for my collection lol
I would say that kepler has aged badly. I remember when i bought the gtx 770 back in the day and immedietly upgraded to the gtx 970 which i used up until rtx 2070 launched.
Just because of the low vram even back then made me run some settings on lower. I was never happy with kepler.
I recently made some videos of the gtx 690 vs hd 7990, dual gpu cards yes. But i have to say even when those cards are using one core only, the hd 7990 has aged alot better after all these years. GCN 1.0 was one of the best that AMD has released. Nvidia has always cheaped out on the vram of some cards and it feels like they are nerfing the cards after some years . And are still doing it...
What's funny is that when GCN 1.0 relased it wasn't Kepler era... It was Fermi 2.0 still up as best Nvidia offering and as much as I love GTX 580 after 11 years HD 7970 is a no brainer for newer titles. And second gen kepler looks really really bad compered to GCN 2.0 after 780 winning over R9 290 in 2013 now it's as low as 20% of it's performance in some titles
Can I still use it I wanna buy one
Yes, you can still use it. This generation of cards isn't fully DirectX12 or Vulkan compatible, so some games won't work (Dirt 5 and AC Valhalla come to mind, but there are probably others). The lack of up-to-date drivers might mean some bad performance or bugs in some games, particularly new ones.
Me who just buy a gtx 770 : 👁️👄👁️🔪
Got a 770 video in the works!
I just ordered a 780ti now have to order new psu and will test it out :) gpu bebchmark scores are better than my previous RX 580 and gtx 1050ti, only the 3gb vram looks so low nowadays.
@@jacksimple3766 does used gtx 780 for $150 worth it?
@@samueladitya1729 depends on, what I received was a faulty one, with vram power shortage :( not repairable
Only these games wont run o run on low settings. The DX12 games or only Microsoft, Bethesda or Ubisoft games (used Anvil Engine on DX12, or ID Tech 7 or particular deoptimized engines, or bad engine ports from PS4 or Xbox). In total surounding 15 games. Other 2019, 2020 and 2021 runs on Ultra like a charm, all best year games, including same game list launched on PS5 and Series X. Here are the list:
Forza Horizon 5
Dirt 5
Deathloop
Far Cry 6
Watch Dogs Legion
Metro Exodus
Halo Infinte
Doom Eternal
The Surge 2
Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy
Detroit Become Human
Microsoft Flight Simulator
The Medium
Death Stranding
Cyberpounk 2077
AC Valhalla
Red Dead Redemption 2
Avengers
All these games were:
- Deoptimized bad ports from PS4 and Xbox
- Microsoft / Bethesda Games (DX12)
- Specific deoptimized engines like Surge 2 o Rage 2 o Cyberheck
- DX12 DX12 DX12 !!!!!!
Games like Wolfenstein 2 or Serious Sam 4, simply downgrade the memory texture and runs like a heck, all max settings and 1080p 30 fps
I know that is a old card, but, if you compare Crysis 3 graphics with Halo Infinite, who is better?
Its not possible in 2013 there was better graphics with Crysis than now with Halo and ask for more requierements
Valhalla is made with the same anvil engine, and Origins and Odyssey runs 30 fps very high and no escallation (only put down volumetric clouds and target 30 fps in Odyssey. The problem is Valhalla only runs on DX12 and previous AC on DX12.
Thats not fair to waste 1000 bucks in this pandemic situation
correction, previous AC on DX11
time for it to become a Windows XP retro gaming GPUs
somehow it's tha fastest GPU for Windows XP
Official best gpu for win XP - Titan Black and 780ti, no official -Titan X Maxwell and 980ti.
@@crazygramaffects9793 oh yes those too
weird, it runs doom eternal worse than a ps4/xbox one, but it is much better in cyberpunk

780TI = 690 = 1060 6G = 980 = 1650 SUPER same level
1060 3G = 970 > 780 > 1650 (TU117 Non TI)
The 1060 6GB performs better than the 780 Ti. In fact, even the 1060 3gb performs better than the 780 Ti.
I think: titan black (OC) = 980ref. stock = 1060 5/6 Gb and 780 Ti OC = 980 stock =1060 3Gb
