Even in his later years, Gregg belted out the same soulful gritty vocals that hooked me on The Allman Brothers in the first place so long ago, and it still sends chills down my spine. The whole band was just an awe-inspiring force of nature. May God bless every single one of them, both alive & passed - RIP brothers! Much love & respect to you!!
What a God given talent, and his brother was amazing guitarist before his passing. Gregg gave so much through his music, I'm so glad he did not become a dental surgeon and instead became a legend, thank you sir. RIP
I had a ticket to see him at Pine Knob in Michigan with ZZ Top that summer, and he was the headliner for me. I couldn't wait! When he pulled out of the tour I knew it was bad...
Is it just me or is this concert some of the best renditions of all of these great tunes? Ain’t Wastin’ Time, like this is unbelievable. My favorite versions of these two songs. Greg was such a blessing to music lovers and humanity. RIP Greg
It's definitely not just you who thinks this is arguably some of his best work. His voice seems much stronger than in some of his earlier offerings. I'm only a couple of years older than he was here, and I can barely speak more than a sentence or two without stopping to take a fresh breath! RIP Gregg Allman
This music is getting through the hardest of times. Methim 3 times on tour myself in life as a drummer, he always remembered me &took time to talk to as a musician i honesty Love that man for touching my life. He's an Angel. Peace out Drummer Dave Stephens!
I remember back in 1969 when the Allman brothers band and I have followed them through the years The band broke up. For a while I love and still love today of this Old hippies band I seen the Allman brothers it lease a good 20 or more shows great man and music rest in peace Greg
1 of my absolute favorite performers a pro till the end now he gets too jam with his brother and my all time favorites lynard skynrd i nsay lynnrd skynrd my man
I heard this version of Whipping Post live a few years ago in Daytona Beach not long before Greg died. It's different in feel, but as soon as Greg opens his mouth he makes it his own. So glad I got to see him again before he left us.
I love you Gregg...you have changed my music life!!!! You are IT to the nth degree. I am so sad...but so glad I flew up from FLA to PA on 4/1/16 and saw your show for the 1st time ever....and I was hooked. Still am and always will be!
I wish he told the Feds to fuck off. I stared down a dime and refused to be a snitch. I did my time. 10 yrs for an oz of weed. They tried to destroy me. God carried me thru. Greg.
These videos of the Back to Macon are such a fitting remembrance of Gregg, his voice is just perfect and this band is sooooo tight. The sax guy is awesome. Farewell Midnight Rider you gave me many happy memories thru the years.
about history of Allman Brothers, when one sees their shows, one could think, the most important sound could be the sound of their guitar players, but, when i listen Gregg Allman voice with other groups, one take on account what a great man was the Allman singer , acoustic guitar, and organ player. Thank you Gregg
His singing on all of these Back to Macon songs is so solid, I wonder if standing with the guitar as opposed to sitting at the organ makes a difference. There is a reason these tunes are getting 0 dislikes. This is right up there with the Brothers without the extended dual guitars but more groove.
They will go down in history as the greatest band ever. But you are right - not many likes online today. Gregg died worth$ 18 million. Somebody loved him.
LOVE you all so much - my condolences to DICKEY BETTS and family, band members, and all who loved you so much -I'm sad 4-ever.....LOVE YOU DICKEY BETTS 😥
You better go see all these old school rockers before they retire or no longer can perform. We are seeing an entire generation of music pass away right before our eyes. What I would do to go back to 1981-89.
RIP Greg! Thank you for your great music and voice. I'll never forget all the times I saw you at The Beach and The Beacon. May God bless you, Duane, Berry and Butch.
He was a master at composition arrangement songwriting and of course his voice we know is almost otherworldly in its ability to grab you by the heart and squeeze it
@@jamescantrell3066 I believe his voice was stronger here than on a lot of his much earlier work. Like wine, it just seemed to get better with the passing of time.
Aside from the original this is my favorite version of this classic! Written in 1968 after Greg returned from California. He used burnt match heads because he couldn’t find a pen in the middle of the night!
Was fortunate enough to see Gregg in Macon the first time he played the new arrangement in the city Auditorium , and the last time he played it in the Grand .....has become one of my favorites
Saw the Allman Brothers in a small venue in Fayetteville NC as they were on the way home frome recording a record in NYC . They played the entire album & told us the official release would be as soon as they got to Macon! Idlewhile South is still my favorite album!
Now you're up there with Duane, Butch Trucks and Barry Oakley, and you're all playing your talented hearts out. Rest In Peace, Greg. Loved your music so much.
I think we all have been on that whipping post. Poor Gregg, the only mistake this angel has ever made was drinking too much. His music is timeless. Same with Duane.
And I forgot to mention the whole horn vide which he has always gone to in his solo career. Just excellent stuff. So no more Beacon but now he is playing 5 days in NYC at City Winery, unheard of venue for him, great place, I will be there.

Had the privilege to attend this concert in Macon. Gregg was "hitting the note"! If anyone ever visits Macon give me a shout. Big House never fails.
I saw Greg with this band six month before he died. He was so great I thought he would live forever
His magic will never leave
I had a ticket to see him at Pine Knob in Michigan with ZZ Top that summer, and he was the headliner for me. I couldn't wait! When he pulled out of the tour I knew it was bad...
His music will live forever. Cheers!
I have Loved Him, ever since Queen of Hearts, Then I did a deep dive into The Allman Brothers and have been a fan for 50 years 🎉😁

Gregg will never leave To listen to the magic of this band is unbeatable
Now rock and roll heaven has the man they have been waiting for...what a band up there. Loved you so much Gregg...
Gregg's voice has never sounded better ! That was a GREAT show !
I couldn't agree more. Over the recent past his voice is like wine, it's aged into something very special.
he was 67 yrs old and voice still sounds great!!
Another post in honor of the late, great Gregg Allman. Great groove on his version of "Whippin' post." Love the horns!
I heard this version of Whipping Post live a few years ago in Daytona Beach not long before Greg died. It's different in feel, but as soon as Greg opens his mouth he makes it his own. So glad I got to see him again before he left us.
God speed brother. Thank you for all the great and beautiful music. Tell Duane hello for us. RIP
soul brother.
Agreed
Beautiful tribute to both. Thank you. ruclips.net/video/X-bBWbrHgGE/видео.html
nice , neat ,snappy version!!
this looks like a really good show
Love him ❤. To me, he had a sweet sadness that came through that amazing soulful voice.
Rest in peace, Gregg... Thank you for all the great music that will live on always~

Gregg is on top of his game! Read his book, " My Cross to Bear " , and you will wonder how he lived through it all!
*was... 😔
His book is so good. I don't read hardly any books now, but I couldn't put it down once I started. Awesome Read
I wish he told the Feds to fuck off. I stared down a dime and refused to be a snitch. I did my time. 10 yrs for an oz of weed. They tried to destroy me. God carried me thru. Greg.

A great version of Whipping Post. A surprising but very satisfying take on the Allman Brothers classic!

Couldn't agree more... It's been a long time since Greg has sounded /and/ looked this good!

Wouldn't we all! Gregg was a true southern gentleman!
I love this version.
I love this version so much!!! Had the opportunity to play this with an AB/Gregg tribute band.
I did feel that way. True stuff. God bless beautiful brothers. 🙏💛😇😎👆🙌👏
this is awesome, at 3:44 when they hit the original version groove and smooth back into this funky version was damn cool.
For Reals

First song I ever heard stoned. Still love it and thank you Gregg. You are the best. Influenced my entire adult life, thank you sir.
That Hammond organ is a hallmark of his and I saw him about 25 years ago and he played it a lot... unreal stuf. RIP sir!!!
RIP Greg! Thank you for your great music and voice. I'll never forget all the times I saw you at The Beach and The Beacon. May God bless you, Duane, Berry and Butch.
I saw him once in Rochester, NY, probably 20yrs. ago. Got to meet him briefly and say hello.

So clean, upbeat really cool version!
I happen to love this arrangement. Makes it a little jolly. Great job!

I don't know who wrote the score for those horns, but man what an added effect!
Was fortunate enough to see Gregg in Macon the first time he played the new arrangement in the city Auditorium , and the last time he played it in the Grand .....has become one of my favorites
I read his book, what a great adventure he lived! He, ll go down as one of the Cat,s! What a great band here! Smoking baby!

Nice funky version, add some horn,s cool/ RIP Greg, you were one of the Cat,s!
I think this version is the best I’ve ever heard, good stuff 😎
I think his vocals are stronger on this version than the original as well, it provides him with more room to stretch vocally.
My favorite vocalist of them all❤
Wow chills baby Great Tunes on this day 💓
Brilliant Artist Singer/Songwriter RIP Gregg🎼🎹🎸🎶🍄🍄🍑
Awesome 🎶 tune❤
Legend.... may he rest in peace!
Now you're up there with Duane, Butch Trucks and Barry Oakley, and you're all playing your talented hearts out. Rest In Peace, Greg. Loved your music so much.

Wonderful, Love it
Saw him in Charleston a few years back with
Zac Brown. Amazing!!!
Nice arrangement and feel, kicks ass!
I am such a sucker for a good brass section. Man these guys are laying it down. Wish more bands, today, would add some horns.
I have to wonder what he is thinkin while he sings these songs......what a life! what a rocker!!

What I always loved about greg, big band, no 3 piece power band, not afraid to pay for talet
Wish I could have seen him in concerts, He lived in Richmond Hill Ga, 15 minutes from me, wondering why I never saw him perform
I think we all have been on that whipping post. Poor Gregg, the only mistake this angel has ever made was drinking too much. His music is timeless. Same with Duane.
RIP Gregg... Your Music will be enjoyed for many years.. Say Hi to Butch Trucks for me
You were one BADASS!!!! Ride on Brother!!! R.I.P
