Gregg Allman is undoubtedly among rock and roll’s greatest and most influential artists, his soul-fired and still utterly distinctive voice one of the defining sounds in all of American music. He got labled as a rock singer...but really his heart and souln was blues. I followed him so closely and just really have gotten interested in the man all he was was a voice to me up till a couple of years ago actually shortly before he died. But that man is the reason that I am a solid Blues fan today in fact I really don't want to listen to anything else and I like a lot of different branches of the Blues. But really I still love the old school stuff yes BB's the king and Muddy Waters and and and Otis and T-Bone and listen who can forget my girl Etta oh my God what a performance! And there was no more soulful blues singer then my man Gregg Allman one of my best friends that I never got to meet unfortunately rest in peace God loves the blues too
Well that’s the thing man people don’t understand is he may have been commercially in rock ‘n’ roll but his heart was blues Gregg Allman was a blue singer from day one and a blues lover and what I love about him he there was not a prejudice bone in this man’s body I’m talking back in the 1960s you know they made no excuses had a black drummer is in would not do business with the place we didn’t wanna let him in course his best friend was black

He had a signature voice and was always a class act. Hard to believe I saw the original Allman Brothers in 1970 for like $6.00.
Yeah, at the Nassau Coliseum for me. Sadly, they are so 'out of it' in those days that the concert was really poor - no soul like later years...but, we've all got our demons.
And that was a lot of money 🤑 lol
Back then you could see 3 bands for less than $6. For example I saw ZZ Top, Earth Wind and Fire and Uriah Heep all on the same show that lasted for 4-5 hours.
Well he did rat out the roadie who saved his life during an od so he wouldn’t go to prison. The band broke up for a while because of that.

I don't know why I've been thinking about Gregory a lot the last two or three weeks his voice haunts me daily from the grave. Man nobody has a blues voice like this guy he put his heart and soul out there for the world to see his shy personality gives a glimpse of itself but his heart on full display . I guess I've been thinking about him so much because of my own health problems it's becoming obvious I won't live to an average age I think about those things a lot these days brother Greg will continue to keep me company until I close my eyes for the last time

I met Gregg at the side door of the Beacon. I told him how much I loved his new album. He looked me in the eye and said thank you. I smiled and he went on to play a fantastic concert with Eric Clapton. It was the concert of my lifetime.

I saw the Allman Brother's band, 8 April 1972 Baltimore Civic Center. Best concert I've ever heard in my life.
Gregg seems to have been down to earth. No "I'm the Greatest thing sliced bread" crap. A genuine soul musician, with no pretences, just REAL.
His voice is so unique, only takes one word to know it’s him. Love this sound!

+Barbara Nolan Maybe you'll be able to see him at one of the Laid Backs this year. there are five and one of them is in Red Rocks, in Colorado. I will be able to see him. If you can see him live, do so. His albums are great, but there's nothing like seeing him live. So so much better. His new band kicks some serious ass!!

Got to hand it to Gregg. He would take his many great songs and put a new spin on em. I don't know how many versions of Midnight Rider he did but every one of em were great in my book. IMO ABB is still the best there ever was !!

Great guy, got a real charge outta brief conversation with him in NJ many years ago, who opened for him outside at the NJ State Park horse race Track? The Jets, LOL, the Jets! anyone remember them? The Greg Allman band blew everyone away, shoot Greg even broke up a fight from behind his organ. Blessings my brother! A good friend of mine resides up the country road from you a stretch in Ga. What a great performance of one of my favorite Gregg songs. The man has really gotten his crap together. Just saw him in Bethlehem Pa a couple weeks ago and he is better than he ever was and the band is just freakin right on point. We have lost so many keystone musicians starting with Levon Helm over the last few years. Gregg is a survivor and he should be cherished for as long as we have him.

He will continue to be cherished for a long , long, long time. He is impossible to forget. As is also his brother Duane. We were doubly blessed the days they were born into this world. I saw Gregg with the Allman Brothers back in Dayton, Ohio in the late 70's. I think the ticket cost me 8 or 10 bucks. Always a great show. I hope to see him in 2016.

I saw him April 1, 2016 at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA. So glad I flew up there from FLA, as he wasn't looking well and then passed in 2017. I have seen about 200 RnR shows since 1960, and his was the last I saw and the favorite!!!!

People may not agree with my thoughts on this, but I believe Gregg's last two albums were a labor of love and a way to say good bye. I'm so thankful I was born in a era of GREAT music performed by Great musicians......

Aint nobody cooler than Gregg Allman. That's just a fact Jack. I always love the way The ABB played this song but I'm always looking for the rare versions with Jack Pearson on guitar and they're hard to find. Well thank god for Scott Sharrard because he plays the solo a lot like JP usually would. It's such a cool, laid back way of playing it even when he's getting after it and it fits right in with how Gregg is playing the tunes now. The timing of it really grooves. Can't wait for Macon in 2016.

I've really come to appreciate Scott Sherards playing. Definitely pays tribute and stays within the tunes spirit while still being a refreshing voice to Gregg's tunes. He's now with Little Feat, stepping into Paul and Lowell's spot. Solid musician for sure.

Yeah I saw the Allman Brothers in 1975 Phoenix Arizona feline Fields when they're on tour were there eat a peach album Robin Trower Ten Years After The Allman Brothers one hell of a concert didn't get to meet him but I sure enjoyed their music. My favorite song by the Allman Brothers is Midnight Rider one of the best and tied to the whipping post Berry Oakley Duane Allman and Greg rest in peace one of the best bands in the United States along with Lynyrd Skynyrd band God bless their souls 2

He learned it first... Duane stole Gregg's guitar, and Gregg switched to organ (mostly). Good stuff, indeed.
Gregg went back to play guitar occasionally after Duane's passing and they brought in Chuck Leavell to play piano. For a while in the 70s he played a Veleno aluminum guitar
