I grew up listening to the Allman Brothers. I've listened to then since I was in my teens and saw them in Chicago, Illinois. Thats when they were all alive. Great concert. I'm 66yrs old now and can still listen to The Allman Brothers any time I want because their music will never die. Now it's 2024 and this song 🎵 👌 brings me back to my youth . You should hold on to your memories because it's all we have in life to keep us going.
I sent this to my daughter to share with her what I was listening to in HS. I asked her if there's music like this today bc I don't really listen to the radio. She said "Frst of all that's beautiful and secondly No".. lol.
Today is the 40th anniversary of my daughter's death I named her Melissa after the song so here's to you Melissa on your 40th birthday God bless you I miss you
Yes I've gone on to have two healthy boys but they're older now and it's like they don't come to see me or do anything nice maybe I'm asking too much I did want them just thought they would be more caring. I do know where it comes from and that is equally sad.
I have to believe that Gregg and Jackson were very good friends, I know Jackson wrote Queen of Hearts and gave it to Gregg to run with,,,and that he did, fabulous song ! One of my favorites of all time !!! Rock on in Heaven Gregg !!! 😁✌️✝️💕😇🙏💕💕💕
Cried so hard hearing this version. Generations dying, irretrievably lost. I could never explain what the Allman Brothers meant to us in the 70's. It was so pure, perfect, soul-stirring. Where did this music come from? I hope it lasts as long as the earth. And what a gentleman--that Jackson Browne--so smart and elegant to step in.
We felt the same way about the Allman Brothers Band in the 70's. When Duane Allman what a heart break. I believe that must've been so incredibly hard. Their music was so unique no others were like them, the blues, the great song writing, arranging and composition to me is unique. Greatly blessed these songs were completed for us to enjoy, forever and pass down to our children.
Jonathan Ellis - Do you notice how many times Jackson turns around to look at Jack Pearson and smiles? Jack’s kinda blowing his mind like he does everybody’s.

As a southern woman named, Melissa, I loved this song. This version brought me to tears. R.I.P. Gregg Allman. Thank you for being one of us and for bringing southern rock to the forefront. Melissa
Your words bring me to tears Melissa55... My name was often said as Melissa by some of the old folks when i was growin' up.. Cheers to all the Melissa's and to the late great Gregg Allman! Xo
He never knew what to name this song, he needed an actual name for it. It was a little girl in the grocery store trying to run away from her mom, she started yelling her name, and Melissa was born. That. Was. It. One of the most beautiful songs ever ❤❤❤
I love that story. I always thought it was a love lost story and then I heard him tell this story of the way he came up with the girl’s name and was just so endearing you can’t forget it.
That is the story I heard about how the name Melissa was chosen for this song and yes one of the most beautiful songs ever written, at least in my lifetime that is.
What a wonderful story! I have a friend who performes this song incredibly well. Any time he was up to sing and play guitar, with bells on his shoe for rhythm... I'd beg for this song! Sometimes he did it for me.
Gregg wrote this song when he was 17. Sold it at about 20 for $600 so he could fly from CA to GA but later the guy he sold it to gave him back 1/2 royalties. It's all in Gregg's book-My Cross to Bear-
The hair on my arms literally stands up and I feel a rush on my skin as I listen to this masterpiece. I could listen to Gregg all day.....and then switch to Jackson. Thank you for this version....I had never heard it before!
I lost my daughter in the 9th month of my pregnancy. I held her in my arms and named her Melissa today December the 4th marks the 42nd. I play this song in her honor.

@@mark-fu9fe I was just stating what I see when viewing this, as did you. These men shared a deep love and respect for each other born of years of making awe inspiring music. Fortunately, we grew up in an era that gave us so many talented musicians, true originals.
Seen Gregg live 4 times and had seats up close each time and he never smiled wirh with such a soft eye sparkling smile. I hope he had that same smile as he closed his eyes for the last time RIP Gregg
Its beautiful to see the mutual respect these 2 song writers have for one another! They both know the song they are performing is one of the best ever written. Yet there’s no ego from the one who wrote it , and there’s no envy from the one who didn’t!
This song always creates in me such longing. I don't know for what... just longing, a sad feeling that I love to feel.... Such a great, great song. Close your eyes and just feel it....

2/18/2023 Jimmy Carter going into hospice today made me think of Gregg and I've listened to this song at least 100 times today. A lifetime favorite. It's a wonder there aren't more women/girls named Melissa.
When I was a teenager in the 70's I wanted to go see all the great bands in concert but my father wouldn't let me go. Thankfully my brother went and each time I couldn't wait until he came home to tell me all about it. He saw the Allman Brothers live several times and I am so jealous. To this very day we talk about the concerts he went to and all the things that happened. We both share a love of music and I am so thankful for that! Music is a bond that never ends!
Unbelievably beautiful. In 1970, I was 14, living near London, and my elder sister bought the album Layla. That's when I first learnt about Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers. I've spent the last 54 years marvelling at their music.
Man that gets me every time…the look Gregg and Jackson give each other when they finish singing…and the solo by Jack Pearson is absolutely one of the best solos I’ve ever heard in my life.
Also the look Jackson gives Greg during the line ‘will he hide the dead man’s ghost, or will he lie beneath the clay, or will his spirits float away.’ Heavy and so touching I love that Greg lived to fully and the end of his life deserving of dignity and respect. Wild roads…
I lost my only sister last year due to covid. When I listen to this song I think of her, she played it on guitar and I sang. Greetings from Rome to everyone.
My kids grew up listening to these guys because I use them as traveling music 10 minutes it was Allman Brothers we got the Statesboro blues and rolled on
Every time I watch this video I get choked up. I was a teenager in the mid 70's, this was our music back then; but it effects me more now at 60 years young.
Gregg Allman: “The first thing comes to my mind is I said to myself, ‘Gregory, do not cry. Do not start crying.’ If you watch the part with me and Jackson [Browne], we did ‘These Days’ and ‘Melissa’ and if you look at him during the second verse of ‘Melissa’ he was singing and he had a huge crocodile tear out of the outside of his eye and I was thinking, ‘Don’t start, you’ll get me goin’!’ I just happened to look down at the first three or four rows, they were all crying. Everyone in that place.”
That's one thing that Gregg Allman always conveyed was respect.Ive enjoyed their music (ABB) for years in all their different itterations. But only recently have I embraced their true status in my listening.I really enjoy ALL quality music but have been thru all kinds of diff phases.Love Southern IE:Outlaws,OFCOURSE SKYNYRD, .38 spec,Hatchett,Rossington Collins,Blackfoot, etc.Have listened to a ton of Grateful Dead,,Steel Pulse,Little Feat, etc, etc. But I keep finding myself back listening to Gregg with Jackson Browne doing Melissa.Or the more recent ABB mat'l with Derek T.and Warren.Maybe Clapton on there.Dammmmn.ladies and gentleman.Anyways..grew up in Daytona(ormond).Fellow Seabreeze dude.Yall listening to the right stuff .
we named our daughter Melissa because of this song and later lost her. couldn't listen to this for years and years. it's been 38 years now and it still brings bittersweet thoughts and emotions. such a beautiful song.
People always expect the hurt to go away, but it doesn't, does it? I hope that for you the sadness of her absence is vastly outweighed by the joy and wonder of her presence in your lives. 💙🙏💚
You'll see Melissa again and this song can bring you comfort. He sang it so beautifully and personally. I have sadness when I listen to certain songs that me and my husband lived our lives by, now he's gone but I'll see him again. ♥️
Respect to Jackson Brown. I wish I had been able to see Gregg Allman in his prime. So much lost from my generation. I love the admiration and smiles they share between each other. So beautiful.
My God I Just found out he wrote this song at 17. Think about how and what you were doing at 17. I know times are different, but dang, they grew up fast back then. This song is 50 plus years old and it's still one of my favorites of all time. You alll have a great day
I named my daughter, only child after this song.... She died in 2011 and she would have been 35 yo today. Greg was and is a friend and all love for him and his family..
+Raven101able I have triplets (2 girls 1boy ) my girls are named Melissa & Jessica after Allman Brothers songs. They are 35 years old born July 4, 1980. I am so sorry for your loss. We lost a child too & its unbearable. Not the natural order of things.
+Raven101able I'm very sorry to hear. I don't mean to be too personal, but i was wondering if this song was played at her funeral? I imagine there wouldn't have been a dry eye in the crowd ...
No it was not one of the songs played, although I specifically asked that it be played. It was 5 years ago today that a police officer knocked on my door to let me know my daughter had died. This is not a good time of year for me. Thank you for your kind words.
+Raven101able OMG, I am sorry if I added to your sadness, today of all days. And I'm sorry that your wish to hear the song that day was not honored. I am a mother (of a 26 yr old female) so I can only imagine the loss. She is my only child also, the light of my life. Gregg is one of my all time favorite singers. He is the epitome of blue-eyed soul. Love love love the man. Take care.
j flo Named my Jessica after Dickie Betts daughter also. Theirs a story behind that tune he told me once. He looked out his window one day and seen Jessica riding around on her horse. He said when he seen the sight of that...the guitar riff just popped in his head.

Gregg smiling at Jackson when he is singing-Respect.
a deep friendship- very deep
Greg also did Jackson’s Song for Adam, fantastic rendition
Love Love this Dude,l cried my eyes out when he left this World😪♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful collaboration of friends. Two legends. ❤️
I do not know why but when I hear this song I have a vision of myself jammin' an old Shovel Head chopper down a long straight road.
1961 Panhead for me 🙏
Who could ask for more - Gregg Allman and Jackson Browne. . .I miss Greg Allman so much.
I've started my comment to this performance but I'm speechless. It's without words. OMG. Why don't we have this kind of music anymore.
Screw fear anxiety and chaos. God bless you
we named our daughter Melissa because of this song and later lost her. couldn't listen to this for years and years. it's been 38 years now and it still brings bittersweet thoughts and emotions. such a beautiful song.
Please keep the faith. You will meet up again. God Bless.
Play it. For Melissa. Hey listen when we die it's a physical loss. Melissa is there always with you in spirit. N u will see her soon.
I have a daughter named Melissa, so very sorry for your loss.
Jack Pearson can play with anyone. He is so smooth and plays across so many styles. One of the best.

I listened to this everyday. If I had a daughter. I would name her sweet millissa.
Respect to Jackson Brown. I wish I had been able to see Gregg Allman in his prime. So much lost from my generation. I love the admiration and smiles they share between each other. So beautiful.
I like Jackson, but Vince extends totally past this!
I wish I had seen Gregg live in concert too. My brother saw him several times and I will be forever jealous. Gregg is a legend gone way too soon.
My God I Just found out he wrote this song at 17. Think about how and what you were doing at 17. I know times are different, but dang, they grew up fast back then. This song is 50 plus years old and it's still one of my favorites of all time. You alll have a great day
Wow, Gregg could still really sing
Modestly done Jackson. An absolute stage full of remarkable talent,,,Beautiful
Not the natural order of things.
so sorry for your loss..
Take care.
What I would not give to have spent another thanksgiving evening with Greg sitting back and sipping on a cold one again.
The best version Ive heard. My daughters are named Melissa & Jessica after Allman Brothers songs.
j flo Lucky girls!
Dusty Rhodes You are sweet
j flo Named my Jessica after Dickie Betts daughter also. Theirs a story behind that tune he told me once. He looked out his window one day and seen Jessica riding around on her horse. He said when he seen the sight of that...the guitar riff just popped in his head.
