What an amazing way of having fun bro I admire that👍🏾🤙🏾👍🏾🤙🏾 I'm just a lake fishermen but I would like to one day expirience that type of fishing , thanks for sharing I'm here to stay🤙🏾👍🏾🤙🏾
Hmm Avalon is a bit tricky I haven't speared there yet, but I heard there's good spearing if you go all the way north to the small beach (Hamilton Beach I think) and rent a kayak from there and then paddle out more north.
It was a lot of things haha it was my first time shooting that gun with 2 bands and I was trying to shoot these fish like I do with NorCal fish. In NorCal you can get super close and shoot em, here you gotta shoot from a distance, socal fish are fished more so they're way smarter. I think the gun is ok but it's never really been that good of a gun to begin with, I need to get a bigger and better one for socal missions 🔱🤿👌🏻
I thought about it but it's too much of a hassle, they have a bunch of rules for what you can bring with you on the ferry. Renting is the easiest option 🛶
I remember one time I went free diving at Catalina island and I saw a Black Sea bass and I am not joking when I say I was so dam scared 😂 there so dam huge in person and like this one it was just following me and my Friends I wonder why they follow divers tho ?
Hey man , I'm planning on picking this hobby up w a friend at Catalina specifically. I enjoy the ocean but my biggest fear is encountering a great white. Am I over thinking this or ???
That's awesome! So I've been diving for about 7 years now, mostly in Monterey (where there are a ton of great whites) and I have never seen one. I know some people who have and nothing bad happened at all. Definitely do some research on how to behave if you do encounter one though, I would recommend looking up a scientist in Hawaii named Ocean Ramsey. Always make sure to stick with your buddy or group and you should be fine, great whites don't really care much about us, and if we're in a group they try to avoid us even more. Good luck!
Soupfin shark and there are way more than 500 black seabass left. They range from central CA to Baja Mexico. Should research the fish before you talk about it
Pursuit of Fish needs to spend more time studying marine biology, California dive history, and the Fish and Game laws of the State. As a life long diver in Southern California inshore and offshore waters I know the dive community has a reverence for these fishing grounds and appreciation for the effects of many decades of sport diving and commercial over fishing. IT IS A SLAP IN THE FACE OF REAL CALIFORNIA DIVERS TO HEAR AN OBVIOUS NEWBIE AND WANNABE' DIVER AND SPEARFISHER MISREPRESENT TO AN AUDIENCE LIKELY NOT TO KNOW SHIT FROM SHINOLA WHEN IT COMES TO THIS TRADITION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND THE STEWARDSHIP OF EXPERIENCED AND SERIOUS SPORTSMEN.
What is your problem? I didn't do anything illegal out here as everything I did I asked the local dive shop about and I did mention that lobster wasn't in season at the time so I always make sure to check fish and game laws. What marine biology did I make a grave mistake about? I read about the black sea bass in a magazine (which I referenced in my next video), and what dive history did I even mention? I didn't know what kind of shark that was so I asked, does it offend you that I'm learning and getting views? I only started diving 6 years ago and I'm not going to let some low life like you try to discourage me from getting in the water. In fact I'll be visiting socal later this weekend catching lobsters and sheephead. See you out there 🤿👌
Well, I am a 'low life' based on my 64 years of working 'at depth'. We 'old timers' who started diving when wetsuits were a novelty and 'J' valves were considered 'high tech' are just not impressed with you pups. @@pursuitoffish
Wow so all you have to show for your experience is bitterness and disrespect. See I would love to sit with you and learn about your 64 years of working in depth but I wouldn't take free money from you with that kind of an attitude. I can't wait to be old and see what the younger generation is up to and what they have that I didn't. Or better yet I want to pave a path for future generations to have it easier than I did. Anyway thank you for your view and comments as they will help circulate this video more. Like and subscribe and watch all my videos, I'm sure you'll have a blast 🤿👌
You write like a kid just as you speak like a child while you pretend to have something to contribute to the story of diving. Everything you describe is new to you and puffs up you ego ... but kiddo, real divers have been there and done that and realized, those are baby steps. I guess it really doesn't matter as the audience to RUclips is as likely to be gullible and predisposed to believe any of the bullcrap that passes for journalism here. Those of us for whom diving, in particular free diving, and specifically spearfishing and taking game have a special place in our experiences and lives it just annoys us to view such tripe as you produce. I'm happy to let viewers decide how big a hot dog you are. @@pursuitoffish
Great persistence and work!
Thank you! 🤙

you scored!
🔱🤿👌 thank God!
The shark in the beginning looks like a Tope Shark (aka Soupfin Shark). It has a distinctive upper tail fin.
Looks like it indeed 🦈 thanks!
How do you avoid entangling float in the kelp?
That’s a gorgeous dinner lol
Sure was! Come through next time 🙌
I've dived Catalina and I have seen the shark in the cave. It's a horn shark. Nice shot on the Sheephead.
Lol so many different suggestions on what kind of shark it was haha 🦈
فخم
حبيبي!
I was also spearfishing over in Descanso and saw a huge sea bass like that
Yeah I hear there's a handful of them around the island 🤿👌
I was hoping to go to Avalon shortly to do some diving. Any suggestions where I could do some spearing from a kayak outside of the protected zones?
Hmm Avalon is a bit tricky I haven't speared there yet, but I heard there's good spearing if you go all the way north to the small beach (Hamilton Beach I think) and rent a kayak from there and then paddle out more north.
soupfin shark? I saw one at La Jolla like 2 weeks ago
Maybe a soupfin shark?
you should fine tune your spear gun to improve its accuracy and power.... you know how.... An old guy crazy love spear fishing.

soupfin or lemon shark...one charged at me during a dive off palos verdes, ca
Oh snap! That must have been scary, did you have to poke with your spear?
Wonder if you can bring a kayak onto the ferry to get to Catalina.
I thought about it but it's too much of a hassle, they have a bunch of rules for what you can bring with you on the ferry. Renting is the easiest option 🛶
Oh gotcha. I plan on heading down from the sf bay sometime soon and would like to hit up Catalina. Did you camp out on the island?
@@camcam3087 oh nice! Yeah for this trip we camped. Have fun and stay safe 🤙
Heard that some of the Black Sea bass would try to steal your fish after you spear them 😂
I believe it! Happened to me with a seal once 🦭 but he was so polite about it I ended up giving him the fish 😂
Tope/soupfin
Where did u guys camp?
Two Harbours camp ground

Ikr! I think they know we catch fish and are trying to steal our catch haha 😅 did you catch anything around it?
