Nice Video. I started spearfishing about 3 years ago, i first got the idea after watching one of these videos (not yours specifically but similar high quality) I thought it looked like the most incredible thing to do. this summer i completed my first 45 Meter dive at just 15 years old. I have nothing but thanks, and respect for videos like these. They help get more people interested in the sport. Thank you.
As an older gentleman once told me, "If you kill it, you better eat it." Much respect man, I'm excited to start doing this myself.
true but I really don't want to be called a cannibal
I speared a halibut about 30 years ago in Carlsbad while freediving. It was in the lagoon area where the old nuclear plant used to be and the water was always warmer than the surrounding water because they would use that lagoon to flush the nuclear reactor with to keep the temp down. This in turn warmed the quite a few degrees more and the marine life would just swarm to this area.
The halibut I speared was about the same size as this one, but I didn't have a camera to take a picture of it, unfortunately. We didn't have cell phones with cameras on them at that point in time, but I wish I would of at least had one of those disposable one-time-use cameras they used to sell in that time period. I missed out big time because I only have a tale to tell without proof. I sure did have a great day and I will always remember that until I exhale my last breath in this physical realm.
God bless
Those fish are not free, the time, gear, and experience to find and get them is priceless, people who spend their lives near the water have never even stuck their heads underneath have no idea what they are missing. When people know you can get fresh fish and lobster like that, they all become very nice to you all of sudden. You can either pay for the near rotten fish at the market or get it on your grill or pan before the sunset. By the way, that is a nice hole, not too many of those fish were spooked or darted off as soon as you came in range. As long as you know bottom structure, known reefs with sand and thick kelp, there will be fish. I do miss being able to park and kick out a few hundred yards to get on a spot, life, work, location, and family makes these trips very rare. Keep up the videos, very entertaining and memorable.
It's smart to show the names of the fish
I've watched this video a countless number of times so amazing I would love to see more and I can tell how much you love the fish even though you're soearfishing while admiring the fish you can and can't kill and how much you know about them!
Great video, nice shots, awesome song!

I am from Barbados now living in England I miss diving and I want to get back in the water cant wait to get back to what i love. I cant wait to get My 75cm thunder bolt and my Seac Twin fire back in the water great video bro
Good video friend , was just checking out your great channel and i joined up
Thank you, haven't posted in years, but starting again now, but with a focus on outdoor adventure in general
Thank you for naming them, super helpful for new spearos
Wow. Great video and great fish! I hope i can swim in the water like that!
Great vid, we call Halibut Flounder in Australia. Never seen one that big. Agree with keeping locations to yourself too. :) thanks for sharing
Halibut are actually separate from flounder but very closely related along with some other species of flat fish. The pacific halibut can even reach 500 pounds but most flatfish are smaller within the 1-15 pound range!
The kelp beds along Santa Cruz are full of halibut, white sea bass, ling cod, and all sorts of rock fish. No divers, for some odd reason. We catch 20# halibut in the surf and 35# white sea bass in the kelp.
Ron Stash A lot of sharks in that area
@@rstash1 hey man I'm in santa Cruz and I'm looking to get into this to scope out terrain. And see what's around, any tips?
Lol i thought it says "Dumb Ass" at 00:58
Same I was like yep I'm subscribing to this guy😂
Great video. I'm not into spearfishing myself, but I do however like to watch you guys kickass when doing it. I do the rod & reel style. RUclips is so fun to post videos. Thanks for sharing!
@damiansdroid haha. Copy. I didn't know there music 😂🤣😝 I always have it off for dive video
Awesome video. Just watching this makes me think White shark 😳
I haven't been diving in California since 2016, but i hear white sharks are becoming much much more common
Couldn’t pay me to get in the water in Northern California! White sharks everywhere!
Nice Fish!! Perfect sz. halibut. friend of mind landed a 85lb last year in Port Townsend, Wa. but it had some worms so he ending up with about 30-40lbs. of fish.
Thanks, this is a california halibut though as apposed to a pacific, these dont get bigger than 60 lbs max!!
wicked nice vids! great shots, the stone shot at the beginning was really nice.
Thanks appreciate it!
Dude this video is sick!!! Spearfishing is hella badass- ever do it in the sf bay by TI?
Years ago i speared the Carmel area, as well as a couple hours north of sf Bay. Never in the bay or very close though
I spearfish in San Diego in 1993. A 39 pound halibut 29 corbina and an 11lb spider crab
Would love to have gotten a halibut that big, I haven't dived California since 2016 now
Dig the video bro! Ive fished the Caribbean since I was a kid, but man am I looking forward to fishin cali waters one day... awesome abundance of fish to catch ... Safe fishin brah....
awesome last picture with that fish really awesome!
I get it, but I don't shoot them, not in California. I fished rod and reel for 50 years, I recently began taking spearfishing on as another pursuit. The biggest difference between sportfishing and spearfishing (besides being in another environment) is the ability to select your catch. Calicos are very good eating, I used to keep them along with everyone else, until I found out more about their reproduction traits. I'm not trying to be a dick, just passing along a little bit of information, please don't take it as a personal attack. Lol
thats why theres dfg regulations of a minimum size limit of 14"...
still one of my very favorite spearfishing vids! Love the song =)
Look like a great place for spearfishing ! Would be nice to discover it. Keep the good work and go safe !
Franck.
Very nice video the music is in a little jump ur where what happens like u killed the fish then the beat dropped !!! Respect for ur work bro subscribed!:)
Nice music choice and vid keep it up
Crazy to turn around and see a 16' sevengill an arm reach away! They get big Kodiak,,,nice flatti bro
great video man, love the song to. I would like to try spear fishing some day. looks like fun.
Nice vid man. How long can you hold your breath?
+x3La my max is around 4 min, but I dont normally try to dive longer than a minute or 2
+Kodiak Morasky nice
That is really cool man . I start my first class of freediving this coming week
nice
Look up freediving techniques
The seven gill with a tag is extra points!
Outstanding! 👍🏼
Thanks!
Thanks for posting.
Awesooome added to Favorites of course excellent choice of music 👌👌👌 what's the name of the speargun by the way? Kinda like it
haha I like the "door mat" for the CA halibut instead of the "barn door" pacific
I can already taste it in my mouth... ))
Nice catch... jealous... ;)
Yewww sick video Kodiak
Newbrunswick Canada has probably the best halibut
Sweet videos, I subscribed! Keep them coming.
Wasnt posting for a long while, just getting the channel restarted. Unfortunately living away from the ocean so will be more outdoor adventure focused, with some trips to the ocean and freshwater spearfishing
Great video
love the music very nice catch
Awesome video man! Would love to spear a halibut one day!
one of my favorite fish to spear and eat in California!!
Bro that hali at the end there was a beast
Good job man. God music big fish
It's crazy how different calico grow...I nabbed one 22" 7.2 lbs......
awesome video, what camera equipment are you using?
This was on a go pro 3 black edition
This is the man we were afraid of in Finding Nemo
Great video! ✌🏻
great vid, I am a jersey-east coast diver, be more than happy to team up one day in your waters, keep me posted ...great job spearo
Nice video man! Appreciate you including the fish names, I'm trying to learn to ID fish. Subscribed.
I've seen sheepshead show up in Monterey over the last decade or so, but dam are they cagey, haven't been able to spear one yet, are they good eating?
You're a great shot man!
Great video - i enjoyed it alot :-)
nice shots
Great video great song keep living life man God bless
What part of the California Coast? I'm in Laguna Beach. Looks like
similar environment.
Yea man, haters gonna hate but I say great video. Beautiful life and looks like your living it to the fullest. Always wanted to do this. Dove for abalone once, it was cool. Thanks for sharing. Maybe I'll see you on the Cali north coast one day.
very well put together
Bloody awesome Video.
Amazing bro
Thats huge
Great video! I definitely enjoyed watching, Have you had any close calls with whites?
I noticed you have a magenta filter on your camera...they actually worked pretty good. :)
MAte this is good graphics and content nice
Yeah, I always think about gangsta music while spearfishing
This is awesome, how do you hold your GoPro and gun at the same time while hunting?
When I was spearfishing I would use a head mount, and when just freediving then I had it mounted in a stick
Man the music really suits ur video. I wish I could swim so I can go spear fishing with my uncle but when I was 6 I was trying to learn how swim but I nearly drawn since then I was scared to get into deep waters :(
Love this vid!!!! And the music!!
Great video! What kind of mount do you use for your GoPro?
The remix is nice
looks cold... and deep... is that really a trophy halibut?.... i wouldn't eat a trophy halibut. one time my 3rd cousin Bruce found a trophy halibut at a garage sale. he cooked it up for us but he must've overcooked it or something coz it tasted like an old shoe stuffed with carpet.
Awesome video!
Wow! you've got lots of fish to eat there.
DUDE your the boss!!!!!! post more vids!!!!!!!!!
Captures in the kelp!
great vid man...have you ever ran into a great white before while diving ?
if you don't mind me asking what depths are you seeing most of the larger species at? It seems few and far between to see that many larger fish where I am going. Might be my spot also...
you will learn what spots are good for what fish and at what times the more you dive, however you are right they are few and far between. This video is actually compiled of 2-3 dives I believe! more time in the water will mean more opportunities at the larger trophy fish!!
Awesome video man!!
Nice vid man . Just started spearfishing myself are there any methods to holding my breath like you do?
I live in San Diego mission Valley. Do you ever do any tours on how to spear fish for newbies? Definitely will pay you for your time.
Cooooooooool!!!!!
Interesting!!
Nice halibut!
Great spear fishing anyway you could spear each other
That's no doormat... that's a barn door!
Nice weapons
Maestro.
Where at and when's the best time to head out there? Tide? Temperature? Season?
Hi Kodiak, great video! I know we spearos are very reserved with our fishing spots, but I'm moving to Santa Barbara in one month and I'd just like to know if I'd be able to see some big fish there... I don't mind going deep; are there some deep reefs with caves that I can check out? RUclips videos of Santa Barbara show only very small fish in the shallows, but maybe is just because of the spearos skills... well let me know if we can talk a little. Cheers
No there’s nothing here
Great video! Do you us a filter for your camera?
That shark was amazing
great video! very well put together. looks like you have it dialed in. I work underwater and have never spear fished, how you are doing it looks like a blast, as long as a whitey doesn't want your stringer.
all on a breath hold! after getting gear together its just a matter of practice
Kodiak Morasky Hey Kodiak did you get that flaty in one of the coves. My uncle and his buddy went out in the cove one day and got 6. I want to shoot one soon do you have any tips. I am one of the local groms and i live in Torrance.
Great video! Keep it up! Is the vis always that good there?
+Spearheads I wish it was, normal vis is closer to 15-20ft vis. We only get a handful of days that break past 35ft a year on the coast, at the islands you can expect a low of 40ft and high ov 70 to even 100 sometimes though!! Love ur guys' vids, sick to see ur watching mine!
I swam out south Torrey pines at North Black's flat Rock I fasted red meat two weeks went out too far saw a creature too large to identify..
I got three sheepheads
Great video! :) Love it when you put the name of the fish too :D Just wanna know what camera did you use?
Using a go pro 3 black edition for all my filming! and thank you I have gotten allot of good feedback on adding names so I will start doing that again in future videos!!
Are you using a gopro? And if you are where exactly are you putting it whole filming .
thank you
I use a go pro 3 black edition with a head strap mount however it is a pain in the ass so I plan to get the go pro mask to make things easier. I hope this helps
Thank you yes it does . And yes it is it tends to slide with my hair
I have friends who have had them come off in kelp and lost them, I have a core tied to it with a small tuna clip at the end which I clip to my mask strap so I know if it slides off!!
Nice video! Great to play in creation! Which gun were you using?
using the pathos open pro 120 for most of it, the halibut was shot using a 75 omer my buddy owns
