    Halibut surf master at it again! Well done Gary! That second one with large scar looks to be a gaff injury. Maybe a pair of Boga grips(lip grippers) would be helpful for landing those boys while wading ?

    Where do you even find that much kelp in California? It's been over ten years since I saw kelp this thick in CA. I guess there's no urchin problem there.

    Be careful how you grab those fish when hooked. I put a luckycraft right through my finger at 5am in the surf trying to unhook a legal halibut. He shook and hook went thru my finger and i was attached to halibut for a second it wasnt good luckily he shook himself off

      @@lloydchristmas1086 yeah that's not great. The thing about these weedless hooks is they're big and just one hook. The lucky craft trebles are essentially 9 tiny hooks. A lot easier to hook yourself

    99% of the kelp forest is gone. The entire nearshore habitat has disappeared. Climate change. There is virtually no kelp left in Northern or central California. Thank you, humans.

      While some of the kelp forest is gone, there are still plenty of extremely thick kelp forests in Central California. Have not fished Northern California so cannot say what the situation is there

      @@californiasurffishing Thank you for the reply. Having lived adjacent to and within the kelp forest (surfing, diving) it's a sore point. 99% of the kelp forest from Monterey Bay north is gone. All the species, all the fish, all the former divers and fishermen and women. On top of the end of salmon fishing, and all the other species going extinct. Personally I would never show a damn thing on the internet, you're simply speeding up the extinction of all these animals. My 600 friends will be at your fishing spot, next time.

    Why do you torture fish? Either catch and eat, or do not catch. Catch and release just for fun is torture.

      Catch and release is a widely accepted practice. Whenever you catch a sublegal fish you have to release it anyway

      Fishing is more than just having fun, it’s a hobby and lifestyle. The fish will live, call it what you want but “torture” is a bit much. Take a chill pill, grab a rod and go catch a fish or somethin 🎣!
