Lair of Lingcod: Shore Fishing Deep Waters on the Central Coast
My brother and I went up north and found the lair of lingcod. We were not expecting back-to-back legal lings in one hole from shore. The stoke was real, as these were our first EVER lingcod. Can't get enough of the dramatic structure up there.

Had an encounter with some massive leopard sharks roaming the shallows. While wading to my seabass zone, I had to walk by dozens of these sharks, some over 5 feet. It was definitely a little unnerving. @@MorgancjIt definitely was not easy today! In general the more south you go in Malibu, the better the swell. So more opportunities for halibut

Step 2: DON'T RELEASE A HALIBUT! Halibut are delicious!
They are. The majority of halibut caught from the beach are sublegal (under 22"), so releasing them is part of the game

You don't hold a rod like that, they have a spline in them and when you lift the rod where you did that's what happens they break every time.

There are several different kinds of flatfish. California halibut are one of them and flounder are a different species.

@@Eddie-g3j nice! This is at the channel Islands, so access is not easy. It's actually the only time we've fished the island and we're not sure when we'll be able to go back

@@Morgancj plenty of luck in the afternoon! Wind can pick up in the afternoon, so you need to fish heavier weight or fish the day with less wind
