My kids always ask for the mac&cheese too lol I love fishing from the surf. Last year my 5 year old caught a whiting about 18” long and maybe 4lbs at Surfside beach, in like knee deep water. Caught him on a kids zebco 3ft rod with only fish bites. It was awesome.
Imo whiting and croakers are great eating when cooked properly, particularly for fish Tacos. I liked the straps fried in seasoned cornmeal. We lived on them during college!...great video!...buck
Wade out a little too far into cloudy, rough surf to fish and tie the stringer of fish to belt loop, then run backwards and yell when the bullshark eats the fish off the stringer! I saw that a few years back on Padre Island.
Be very careful in the surf. I walked along sand bars and through troughs and was getting great bits and a few fish I ended up getting lured into chest deep water and a wave knocked me off of a sandbar and I couldn’t get back to it. Threw my pole and swam without results, luckily I was with a few other people and they made a chain with the rods and pulled me back onto the bar. I was exhausted but wanted to get back to the beach so I tried to follow the winding bar and went into another deep pocket. Obviously I survived but I just want to warn people that the bite will lure you and the water will kill you.
@@DIAPERJOE As a kid the whole family would go out seining. We had a 100 foot net. My dad was always the tallest so they would put him on the deep end. This was in the 70’s. Several times he would step into a hole and they would have to pull him back onto the bar with the net. He just never let go. 😂. Only time I ever saw him let go and swim for it was when he said something big came around the end of the net and brushed against him. He said it had to be at least 10 foot long. It just kept going and going. 😂. Man they use to catch a lot of fish that way. Looking back I see why it’s illegal now.
I was chasing some trout at Surfside. I never go over knee deep and I always wear a lifejacket. EXCEPT this time. The trout lured me out to the second sandbar and I wasn't watching the waves. Got knocked down and got caught in a rip tide. I fought the waves for what seemed like forever. I eventually threw the rod down and swam parallel to the beach to get out of it. I lost my hearing aids too. I fish by myself and this wore me out. I haven't forgotten my lifejacket since.
When your Wade fishing and you go into a deeper pocket of water, I call it a trough then you go up on a sandbar and then another trough. Those deep areas are long that I call a trough just like a watering trough for horses. if you wade out there in the water watch where the water is breaking in waves, those are your sandbars. You will have to go through troughs to get to it and if you’re carrying bait, keep it out of the water and those troughs those deep waterways are prime places for sharks and other big fish.
If you want to catch whiting on dead shrimp, just put a ball of peeled shrimp on your hook. Cast close to the beach with the surf the way it is. You’ll clean them up in no time.
I was out there on Wednesday at the surf. Was a tough day for me. Only a whiting hand hardhead. The weather got horrible very quickly and winds picked up to about 40mph, forcing me to leave.
In Australia, fishermen standing knee deep or deeper have a plastic, bumbag with their bait around their waist and save themselves endless walking back to rebait.
Watching all these surf fishing videos I caught the itch. I’m from Washington St know of anything good to fish for here. I’ve done lots of salmon steelhead and trout but never tried surf.
Croaker and whiting are good eating if fresh. Biggest speckled trout I ever caught though, 29 inches, was on croaker. Take that small croaker, fillet it, and scale, so one side is shiny. Trout love it.
@@MDLRFishing It was in the 80’s, I was like 16 years old. Down in Louisiana, surf fishing. Threw out my line and walked a little ways down the beach to throw a cast net. I saw a big trout come out of the water, then saw my pole bent over. 😂. Ran over and reeled that big girl in. Ran all the way back home to Granny’s with that fish. People living around there didn’t believe me when I said I caught it in the surf. Granny had a picture of me holding it on her wall for years. Lost the photo when Hurricane Rita destroyed her home. It been all down hill since. 😂.
I was looking in your description on what you was using and I’ve never heard of a mosquito hook and I didn’t see in description below. I was where you had the rod and real and the line.
If I could I would Like to post a picture on here of a whiting that I caught. I got one that was almost completely 3 lb. It was 2 3/8 lbs. I'm here in Texas and I said Galveston area Freeport San Luis pass and all around here. And they really are very good eating.
That's FUN Fishing and less Mercury in those smaller fishes but just as Tasty as their Big Brothers, My Mother liked the smaller fish much more and asked for me to catch them for Her❤🙏 Love You Mom
Whiting has a nice taste, We eat it a lot when I lived in Pleasantville, NJ. cheap fish to buy. Not too may surf fisherman around me, but mustard? your fish will taste like mustard. just flour & fry them boys up in oil
If you use the whole shrimp, you make it easier for the fish to take the shrimp off the hook by tugging at it. You need to have just enough shrimp to cover the hook, so they take the hook. You could have easily caught fish with just 1/8th of the shrimp you bought.
I like fishing the surf and I was just wondering why you use a 8’ rod? I have a6’6” rod and I’m assuming that’s good enough other then my surf rod I have.
You blew Gordon Ramsey away bro ! Hells Kitchen dose not come close ! Hell Yeah and Cheers Bro TL ! Question dose them whiting have a shit load of bones ? I always throw them back but you showed me how its done Thanks !
@@MDLRFishing Interesting, I've never heard of it here in Michigan. Does it come pre mixed or do you have to make it yourself. If it's premixed, what is brand name and how much to you add to your beer? I'm dying to try it, thanks.

Mustard is used a lot for BBQ smoking. It’s a great binder to keep the seasoning on the meat, and you don’t taste it when it’s cooked.
These winds along the Texas coast needs to calm down.
Good luck

Put the bag of dead shrimp in your pocket while wade fishing out there for some up close shark encounters. 🙂

Happy Father’s Day! Whiting looks great.
We used to put our dead shrimp in a mayo jar tie a string around it, and then to our waist. Let it float behind us for quick rebating.

I like pointing the rod tip to the sky so the surf isn’t always pounding my line.
You should make an adapter for those pvc rod holders to hold your bait.
I’ve been meaning to buy some new pvc to extend them.
Those whiting when they are small would be a good catfish bait especially when they are dead for a couple of days
