The monochromatic color change is exactly what I need. Besides the jpg file, tiff and png don't work. Is it because I have a transparent background?

Yes, this method don't support PNG & TIFF due to their specific formats including transparency, while JPEG is the actual Photographic format. You can still change colors of PNGs & TIFFs by embedding directly into Illustrator or change their formats to JPEG. @@Creativealys The method I figure out is very similar to the linked video. I played with clipping masks and transparency. Apparently, that worked somehow.

I have a black vector on white background, and when i select and try to "fill" with blue ... it actually goes "gray" (vector), and the background stays white. ????
Check RGB color values in the Color panel.

You can convert it to JPEG to change colors or copy/paste directly to Illustrator.

Could there be a reason that my image does not want to change color al of a sudden? I've done it with different projects and images, but now everytime I try to change the color, it stays black.
Thanks for your comment. Check with the image formats as described in the video. If everything is okay then it might be your software problem.

@@alfonstj As mentioned in the video, it doesn't go well with PNG formats. You have save the PNG to JPEG format and then try it.
what if i use adobe cc and there is no embed button on top?
Thanks for your comment. Illustrator CC also has embed button. Check your Illustrator workspace and you should have a top bar mentioning the image selected.
