The biggest letdown of the Q50 is the 7 speed transmission. I have a 2014 Q50 (with the 3.7) and I feel that if they had the ZF 8 speed, it would’ve been a perfect car. And with the changeover to the TT engine, it would be dead on.

    • @vz6235

@@clarks2001 It's a let down in the earlier versions. The 2018+ V6 twin turbo motors come with an updated 7AT transmission that is greatly upgraded over the earlier Q50 transmissions. Shifts are much quicker and it can hold up to 600ft-lbs of torque and 700-800whp. Not as quick as a ZF, but definitely a huge improvement over the 3.7 VQ transmission.

The JB4 is a boost controller not a tune. It's been known to cook the turbos in these cars if you add too much boost. All they do is produce more add and take the turbos out of efficiency range. A solid Ecutek tune will turn these cars into monsters and protect the turbos if the tuner is competent.

To make it like a GTR it needs a front and rear LSD. I had a front LSD installed when I had my Pure Stage 2 turbos installed. I had previously installed a rear LSD in my Q50. I can really feel both front tires gripping when using my EcuTec launch control. Shutting of VDC allows full power to all 4 wheels now. As a side note it's now incredible in the snow. With the new turbos having a large HP increase I need both front and rear LDS's to put the power to the road. Love the Q50/60's.

These cars are absolutely monsters when modded. Plenty of them over 6-700whp and a couple touching the 800whp mark. This will make the new Z an instant hit with the mods now readily available when they release that car.

Love the white leather in cars. The q50 and q60 are actually quite fun to drive.

I just got the same one , 2021 Q50 RS RWD with performance package in slate gray. This car is super quick and sounds awesome! I agree with you on not listening to music to hear the car but the bose 16 speakers systems sounds awesome too so is a hard choice. I don’t mind the ‘old look’ of the technology since apple play makes it modern to me. The dual screens are quite functional, love having waze app on top and my tidal music app on the bottom without having to switch!!. Too bad gas prices are going up because this thing is thirsty in sport+. I’m looking at RSR springs for a future mod.

    Happy Saturday Sarah!!
Saw that thing at the open house, quite a car for sure, all the colors available on vehicles now is insane, color matching must be a nightmare in the unfortunate mishap.
    Stay excellent!!

Love my '08 G35 Sport Stick shift. I wouldn't trade it for many of the newer cars out there today. With the grey model 4 doors, some michelin super sport, a few minor improvements to the clutch, suspension and you are in for a lot of performance and comfort for the price.

As always a charming and informative review! I've got a 2012 G37 that's getting a bit old in the tooth. I've enjoyed owning this car, and I'm on the fence for a Q50 or Q60. This was helpful! 😎

They have quite a decent after market community. There is also a 811whp VQ37 manual swapped one and a couple of others in the 3.0t category that are quite high. Also, one of the cheapest to tune to around 400 if you just pick up the 300hp version.

Enjoyable and fun Review Sarah, current 14 Q50s owner, definitely a fan of the subtle design changes while keeping it the same. Some side notes on fuel mileage and hunting gears in anticipation of needing to accelerate, the throttle input to throttlebody opening rate vs transmission shift point mapping is a little funky... Personally don't use Eco mode, and noted better fuel mileage in sport mode because the throttle input is closer to a 1:1 ratio in time vs opening speed. But I digress, that's from a VQ37HR aspect.

Thanks for the review Sarah. This is one I'll watch and hope it falls like a rock in price. But kind of doubt it.
