Steve Dillon was the best pure storyteller to come out of the British scene, hands-down, no question about it. His reaction shots are second-to-none and everything he did was in service to the story. Absolutely genius and a damn shame that he was taken from us so soon. RIP

A friend's older brother turned me on to this series way before I should have seen it. Especially the uncles with the fish part lol

The comic is hands down better than the TV show.

The first issue I read was actually The Story of You Know Who One-Shot. I was working at a comic shop at the time and we weren't carrying any shelf copies of Preacher although we had a handful of subscribers. For some reason we had an extra copy of that issue so I read it in the store. I immediately told the owner I wanted the first trade and was hooked from there.

I remember when issue 1 came out our comic shop had a big poster of it in the window. I wanted that comic so bad but being a kid in Bible Belt South Carolina wasn't a chance in hell my dad was buying a comic with a burning church on the cover.
I can't remember the number off hand but my first issue I eventually got when I was old enough to go to the comic shop on my own was the one where Jesse used the voice of god to make the guy count the grains of sand and at the end of the issue dude is up to like 10,000 and the wind blows so he has to start over.
To this day one of, if not the most, satisfying series I've read.

This comic completely changed things for in 11th grade when it came out. Along with Stray Bullets it really introduced me to super tight narratives that were focused and kept a beat (yeah there were some lulls in retrospect) but those first dozen or so issues were manic.
    THanks for the video guys
    stay safe !

I remember the buzz around Preacher back then and being very intrigued by it, but being a kid the LCS wouldn't sell them to me and my parents wouldn't buy me a "mature" comic. Had to get by with Spawn, which somehow made the cut. I'm piecing a full Preacher run together now, making up for lost time.

Thank you for finally covering some Preacher, my all-time favorite comic series! What a coincidence: I just re-read the entire series, just finished up VOL 9 two days ago. Discovering Preacher was a defining moment in my life. It was the series that got me back into comics after taking a 10 year break, and I was so enamored with Garth’s writing that I set out to collect and read everything he’s written. I’m proud to say I own everything he’s released aside from a chunk of the 2000AD Judge Dredd stuff. His creativity, honesty, humor, character depth, and incredible historically accurate war tales are what keep me glued to the page and following his career closer than any other in the industry. And I can’t help but point out the routine you guys have been rocking: Release a video on a kick ass issue #1, then have a shoot interview with said badass creator the very next day. Got my fingers crossed I’ll wake up to that Ennis interview tomorrow! Thanks again guys!!!

That bit Jim mentions about Tulip running is cool. I noticed she's smaller in the second running panel, like she's running backwards.

A brilliant breakdown of an iconic issue, excellent work gentlemen. Every aspiring comics creator should be required to watch this video and take notes.

Guys, later in the series there's that nine panel page if Starr rocking different wigs it killed me. I thought even then it was a high mark of humor, somehow bringing realism and looney tunes together. Herr Start kind of became Wile E Coyote around that point

Always look forward to a new CK video, but this one! So good! Preacher is my second favorite series ever.
It was thanks to Wizard that I read Preacher, kept seeing that they talked the series up, but never got a chance to pick it up when it was coming out. Finally bought the third trade on a whim and I was hooked. So irreverent, smart, sharp. Amazing comics.
