I hope you guys can put Steve Dillons Dredd pages like "Cry of the Werewolf" under the microscope, because THAT is easily my favourite of Dillons work. Dillon, when he was firing on all cylinders, was a PHENOMENAL black and white ink artist.

Starting in the 90s I collected a complete run which I just reread last year. Back in October I was at Baltimore Comic Con and had Ennis sign my issue 1. (I also met Jim and Ed and had them sign some of my books). Preacher is a fun and exciting series that often goes way over the top. I was among those that also enjoyed the TV show as it was even MORE over the top. I wonder if we'll ever get a long form series with only a few creators, with a defined end like this, from a major publisher again?

Ed, I totally agree that Preacher was one of the few great collaborations in comic book history. This was kind of the first comic I remember reading and realizing that it didn't have to be about superheroes and that creators could get away with absolutely crazy ideas in their books. Ennis was on fire with these scripts, Dillon was so great at compositions and facial expressions, Hollingsworth on colors and Clem Robins on letters. Simply fantastic. I love this book and practically evangelized it for years by letting so many people borrow all of the trades and I used to take the books with me when the Navy ship I was stationed on would go out to sea for long periods of time and Preacher would always keep me entertained even though I had read all it many many times before.

One of my favorite series of all time. I can reread it over and over, and it doesn’t lose any of the charm.

Hi,Ed! Great review of a great comic! I have the same trade and it’s cool 😎 to look through it while you review it but wanted to point out you exactly looking at issue 3 ,not 2! Not a problem because I haven’t looked through the trade and I’ve got get busy and pick up the rest of the series! This is what love about the channel! Glenn Fabry covers and Godspeed to Steve Dillion! I’ve been following him since Captain Britain B&W backups in the mid 80’s! Also love his Punisher work at Marvel! Thanks Ed! Keep reading and making comix!!👍🎯

Thank you, Ed. That was a nice and insightful deep look at a key issue from my favorite comic series of all time. Ennis has been putting out some extremely good war comics lately, so if you haven’t yet checked out Sara or The Lion & the Eagle I give them a strong recommendation. But keep the Preacher analysis going, and maybe you could look at some of his collabs with John McCrea (Hitman, The Demon, Dicks) on the channel sometime?
