Freestyle is a nice change. You can come up with some beautifully unique pieces, just like this one. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the craft.
that was perfect . like always . I also liked that photo behind you (Abraham Lincoln). He was a great man. God bless him . Thanks for this video. Do not be tired.
Thank you so much! I agree with you 100%. I got that poster when I visited the Lincoln memorial as a young teenager. He’s always been a hero of mine. Cheers👍
Hahaha! That’s funny! I get it. I felt uneasy starting this video knowing what I was about to do. I’ve had a lot of comments of people saying this is how they always work. Cool to see all the different means there are to and end. Cheers 👍
Haven't done stock removal in awhile, but saw the title of this one and wanted to see how you rolled with it without all the gizmos. I pretty much eyeball everything; and while they're never perfect, and no two are the same ever, they're always fairly well balanced and feel good in the hand. I realized that if you can roughly follow a phi ratio in the three dimensions of tapering from front to back, a full tang blade will be balanced and pleasing to the eye no matter what kind of blade type you're going for.
Those first bandsaw cuts and I could already see most of what I would do. It would be a bit different from where you ended up but I like where your went.
Thats cool as mate. Stoked that i could provide some inspiration with the choil/guard area. I've gotten so much better since i made that knife. I will send you some of my latest. Cheers mate and thanks for the awesome videos
my first knife was literally all freehand and it was pretty good. highly recommend having measurements for all knives though...it's very much better to work in a box in that regard...the design itself is way more fun to freehand though...you get neat shapes out of it
I like this knife, Jeremy thanks for sharing it with us. I think the design freely flows into all the aspects of this knife. It felt wrong, but the result is good in my opinion.
I freehand lots but usually only when I use old farriers rasps for my steel, not much invested in those if..... er... when I make a mistake. You ended up with a nice little faux karambit I like it.
I just started amateur blacksmithing recently. Mostly I just whack the metal with a hammer and see what kind of shape we make. I have a relatively functional classic chef knife ready to heat treat and I've completed a couple of combat/camp style knives.
I still free hand alot of knives. That's how I learned and it comes naturally to me. Once I started actually getting customers and more business I measure to make sure
All in all not bad for not laying anything out. I like the design and can see it's potential uses. I think that this could be a start of a new series where you go for a type of design knife and make it without a blueprint so to speak.
Looks great. I like the way it just kind of formed organically. Doing what looks and feels right. More art than science.. Should have put tape over the temp on the oven, just guess at the temp. LOL.
I freestyle everything off the cuff and never rely on fixed drawings. It's where I am most comfortable and in my element so I don't have 1 way to make the particular knife
A perfect EDC/self defence knife, could cut ham, bread, cheese, sausages and keep people of Your back. Even dressing small game if necessary, just needs a good seat with firesteel, a diamond plate for sharpening, or FÄLLKNIVEN CC4.
@@gustavhythomsen8979 Cutting onions is the ultimate test if the knife is sharp or not, nearly all knves can cut an onion, but only a dull knife makes You cry! But they always do! A wise man once said, a knife shall be so sharp, that if You would cut the head of someone, they should not know it until the bend over and the head falls of the neck.
I was thinking how good it would be if you went to that memorial and made a video of it. I do not know if it has a tomb or not. I have a special interest in that big man. America owes him today. He, as well as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Payne. It will be interesting. It was an opinion. thanks anyway
You should build one that you build the most of. Just don’t use the template. To see how close you can get by eye, using memory. Them compare it to the template.
Exactly the blade shape I want for hunting knife .. see all these knives on the internet calling themselves hunting knives .. no they aren’t .. what you made is ., not the handle but the blade shape
The “weird look” after etching is decarb. I don’t recall you grinding anything after heat treat. I’m assuming you used o1, you didn’t mention though. I just know you use it often when using carbon steel. Edit. Neat looking knife without laying it out and measuring.

My opinion is that it is an excellent exercise. Lessons come in many forms. I now want to also attempt this just to see what I can learn.
"Pretty nasty, pokie pokie" I litterally love this guy.
Hahaha! Thank you 🙏👍
Working without a plan seems so unsettling but I guess you can trust your instincts and may even discover something new.
Nice work!
I can’t begin to tell you how uneasy it was to watch another maker not use measuring tools. This came out fantastic big guy!

You working outside of your comfort zone was cool to watch! Thanks for the great content!

This one came out awesome sir! Very stabby. I'm becoming a big fan of the "take down" scales on full tang knives... So convenient for the maker.
Nice job. Very unique video idea. Keep making. God bless.
Very impressive. Beautiful work.
That finish looks great!
Very nicely done Jeremy
Thanks Jeremy! 👍
Those first bandsaw cuts and I could already see most of what I would do. It would be a bit different from where you ended up but I like where your went.
Right on 👍
Love that kind of challenge, keep it up Jer!
Thank you so much!

WOW! Thats an amazing knife! It looks sorta like "The Rivers Experience" creator challenge knife. Fantastic job!
What a cool little knife, great job!!
Looks awsome. Looks like something a diving knife
Very good work. And the whole thing without measuring devices. Your next challenge .... blindfolded. cheers
Thank you! Hahahaha! That would be hilarious. I could just imaging the cuts and close calls with my fingers 😆👍
Love that design !!
That's nice!!! It's kinda like a fighting sharp finger.....
The idea behind the ring is for quick indexing on the draw.. love the end result though man
The eye don’t lie. 👍👍

man that stone wash is spot on

Beautiful knife
Honestly I probably need to make a knife like this later. As always, amazing job
Your most entertaining video yet!
Love it... beautiful knife
I really love the stonewash 😍
Thank you! 👍
Dont know what you were worried about Jeremy, its as awesome as all your knives.
Awesome idea!
Thank you!
I just started amateur blacksmithing recently. Mostly I just whack the metal with a hammer and see what kind of shape we make. I have a relatively functional classic chef knife ready to heat treat and I've completed a couple of combat/camp style knives.
Turned out good.
Some rustic brass flat head screws in the handle please! Other than the fastener choice I like it a lot. Thanks for the video
I don’t know what your talking about. That’s a beautiful shape and knife. You need to make more like that.
Thank you so much! 👍
turned out awesome
Thank you!
Looks really good👍
Awesome skills
Part two - draw the knife you made above (with revisions / the way you wanted it to come out) with the correct tools, then compare the two.
I still free hand alot of knives. That's how I learned and it comes naturally to me. Once I started actually getting customers and more business I measure to make sure
New camera? Excellent video quality!
I got a new lens a few months ago and figured I should use it a lot on this one. Thank you so much! 👍
That's a good looking knife! I like the profile.
Thank you so much!👍

SLL, Nice job making this knife, it’s very cool.
Turned out great 🔥
Thank you so much! 👍

Thank you! Hahahaha. I actually talked about what time I was at but figured the video needed some trimming down as it was. Cheers 👍
Dude I'd buy it! Nice blade!
What screws and barrels are you using and where are they sourced from?
Trust Your feelings!
Nice! A perfect blade to slice up a roll of luncheon meat and fend off the occasional Dragon! Good job.
I made my 2nd knife like that a I find it super enjoyable to just randomly shape a piece of steel into a knife
Right on! 👍
Wow that’s what I do each one with it’s own style mostly chief’s knives
great work.👍
What is the grain size of the sanding belt where you use it to sharpen the knife? Sincerely, Hofer from the Black Forest, Germany
Thats a sick blade you should have made 2 of them. Looks a lot like that one movie with vin diesel 🤔
WOW...Nice video... I am beginner Sir...
Which material or grade and thickness used for knife making..?
Great work, dude. Grunty looking slicer, with some stabbie capacity. I'm backing "The Zeroni" for a name if you set up a template ...
Oh! That’s a great name! Thank you so much! Cheers👍
A small thumb depression along the spine where handle meets the blade might make it a little more comfortable to hold and wield.
Your videos are awesome
Thank you so much!
Put the calipers away! She's good!
I like it myself!
I freestyle everything off the cuff and never rely on fixed drawings. It's where I am most comfortable and in my element so I don't have 1 way to make the particular knife
That’s cool to hear. I find it very interesting how different people use different means to and end. Makes the whole of it interesting. Cheers 👍

I like to say, if it can cut an onion it's good...( Size weize)

Looks a little as a knife from ???? named "Clever Girl", it was from a project with former US servicemen, and got in to production.

@@NotReallyRicky Yes! Thanks!
Interesting. I’ve never heard of that blade before but I’ll have to check it out. Cheers 👍
Man that's a nice blade! 👌🏼 quick question, what sandpaper did you use for the hand sanding? It Looked very flexible and durable.
A kydex leather mix scabbard?
Oh, I like that idea!
2 of the knives Ive sold were freehand creations. No measuring or plan.
That’s cool. Neat to hear that you’ve done that more than once. I think I might give it another go in the future 👍
👍👍
experience shows...
With that finish, it looks a little like it has been rusted found and quickly restored, like 5 years after the apocalypse.
What do you mean a challenge. This is how I make all of my knives haha
I was thinking how good it would be if you went to that memorial and made a video of it. I do not know if it has a tomb or not. I have a special interest in that big man. America owes him today. So this knife its gonna be called "the Done".
Wow, for not using mesaurement by any means, it come out pretty cool. I should called the Watusi.
You should build one that you build the most of. Just don’t use the template. To see how close you can get by eye, using memory. Them compare it to the template.
it would be cool to see what knife you would make for:
surviving in a forest
surviving in a island
etc etc...
Jeremy have you made a knife using the golden ratio?
Exactly the blade shape I want for hunting knife .. see all these knives on the internet calling themselves hunting knives .. no they aren’t .. what you made is ., not the handle but the blade shape
Welcome to the world of right brain people.
This mostly how I made jewelry back in the day.
This so how I started .. Then move to measuring ... Tehhhee
👀
lol this is how ive made all my knives so far XD
I'd buy that poker
Next do this but with a 1x30 and hand tools. Turned out nice
The “weird look” after etching is decarb. I don’t recall you grinding anything after heat treat. I’m assuming you used o1, you didn’t mention though. I just know you use it often when using carbon steel.
Edit. Neat looking knife without laying it out and measuring.
My ocd would never allow me to do that.
How many times did you start the whole project over. Haha 😂
Not once
You cheated with the drill press depth setting!
Didn’t measure it. Same applies to the file guild and Center scribe. If you’re hung up on that you’re missing the point of the exercise.
Sometimes just freehanding it gets you the best results.
Yeah looks like it. I am really surprised it came out this good. 👍
