I am so homesick. My son won't even watch because you are in our home area and doesn't want to get homesick too. Been watching you all day. Thanks for the pleasure I have had. A year and a half and we're there. Red sands, White Sands, and Lincoln National Forest here we come!
Kevin, I have been four wheeling since the early seventies. Even while carrying an air compressor I have always kept an air hose with a lock on female chuck on both ends of the air hose. I then keep my spares air up as much as your comfortable with.
The house you showed is my families homestead! My great grandmother was born in that house. It is called the kite ranch. I wish I could tell you just how much my grandmother is going to love seeing the drone shot of the property as she can not get up there any longer. So from the bottom of my heart thank you from my family to you! Plus we watch every episode you make and it was very exciting to see it come from you!!
Wow!! That is so awesome! Hope she enjoys it. We always love to stop in there when we pass through. It would be great to know more info about it's history!
The ARB failure was most likely the small screw they use to connect the piston to the motor shaft. Both of my arb twins have had this failure. Pretty easy fix, disassemble the side not pumping. You can drill and tap The connecting rod to 1/4x20 screw. You have to either turn, or grind down the od of the new cap screw head to get to to fit the counter sink. no issues since.
I think the ARB did a great job considering it's use. I also think you're fortunate to have it break where you're at. Doesn't sound like you're too remote. Tires can run on pretty low psi, even on the street. Knew someone who ran 15psi all the time.
Great point about the tire pressure monitors. My Gladiator will show actual tire pressure on a certain screen. I always have that screen on when I've aired down just to monitor pressures to make sure I don't have a puncture. Otherwise, if I don't have that screen on, I just know I have low tires pressure, which isn't very helpful.
Speaking from some experience that drone footage you managed to capture underway was truly beautiful! I haven't quite mastered the art of driving while flying, but that was secondary to my intense jealousy for the solitude you were able to find out on trail. Thanks for putting in all the hard work to make this beautiful body of content for us to enjoy!
Our ARB single compressor has been great! We mainly just run the lockers and swaybar disconnect, but occasionally I will air up the tires for the last 5 years! Great drone shots man! Toyota should be paying you for making their product look good.
Before taking a trip into the sticks check your rig's LTFT with an ODB2 scanner. If the values are off get it fixed before you go! Don't wait for the Check Engine Light to come on!
Incredible trip Kevin! Sometimes just being out on the trail and overcoming challenges make for an adventure in itself. Thank you for taking us along, looking forward to the next segment!
Great video, really enjoy the solo stuff. Loved the javelina. Would like to see more camp setup stuff. Also the best shot of the cholla is the dead kind! LOL, no stickers!
That's what I love about my 2017 tundra trd pro 38gallon fuel tank and I carry 15 gallons of spare without that stupid California compliant fuel nozzle.
hoodie, gloves and sunglasses Overland Unibomber! Great music mix on this episode! Way to rock it out Mr. Church! ? add a brown Davis extended fuel tank? Happy Holidays.. and crank out that ol six string in the new years vids! Cheers to all!
Love your travels Im a Jeep guy From NM now in Florida ..The Gila was my Disney for years and I know it well.So Nice to see others enjoy it, great work thank you for sharing!
Full body skid plates is something I'll have to add to my Ranger. Pretty sure the FX4 only comes with a front skid plate and a thin gas tank plate. You don't always have the luxury of having someone get out and check your clearance. Sometimes you just gotta scrape along.
Looked like you already had them on the 4Runner but for anyone reading... Remember to never run those devices on the typical rubber valve stems that come on most vehicles...The valve stems will fail. METAL VALVE STEMS ONLY
You have know idea how much your shared views of the New Mexico (Land of Enchantment) back trails does this old dog good. Bless you! Would a trailer brake and controller be advantageous on down grades or does the weight of your truck handle the pushing of the trailer?
Great solo video recording. I really like to see vehicles on a challenging trail, especially when pulling a trailer. I know that it wasn't the Rubicon, but still a tougher trail than a graded road. Sorry to hear about the ARB compressor. 50+ gallons of fuel is going to be very heavy. You will have to increase the spring rates or add more air to the airbags to help with bottoming out. I am going to check out those tire temp pressure sensors thingys.
FYI for those buying a 2020 4Runner with the new main gauge cluster comes digital numeral TPMS read out. Been looking for a review on this from a trusted source, and I’ll be picking some up for our 16 T4R. Thanks Kevin 👍
We have a dual ARB compressor for tires but run an Eaton e-locker for that very reason. The e-locker removes one additional failure point. 57 gallons of gas equates to 342 pounds. Unless you are making some extremely remote trips (🤫) the added weight may not be advisable for most.
Great video Kevin!! Thanks for sharing some of the beauty of New Mexico!! Love the wireless rear camera setup with the iPad. Now that I have the turtleback, I definitely need one of those. Happy Holidays!!
Crazy, we were there in October at that exact same gate you opened. FS201 is fun but pretty rocky and bumpy but that is a great camping area, right before that gate which overlooks the ridge. We took 201 down into the canyon but saw some Puma looking tracks (are there Pumas there?) so we went back up.
Great trip Kevin, Ive used that style of tpms for several years. TIP take them off the tyre when not using them to stop them transmitting and save battery life. Safe tavels
I think you’ve done enough off pavement travel to know what psi works for you. People also forget tire construction plays into it. 11 psi in an LT tire might flex the same as 18 psi in a C load range. Just depends.
My Power Wagon has only a 31 gallon tank and the Hemi is thirsty. I wish I could get an auxiliary tank for it, but have only found that for diesels. I'm looking forward to seeing what solution you came up with for the Runner.
Another great video Kevin! I always look forward to Friday mornings with you, mama bear and Caroline...and of course a cup of Cafe Bostelo coffee.......Tony
Cool Video Kevin, I often overland solo. My wife's health keeps her at home. I bring plenty of recovery gear and satellite coms. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you and your family. Perry
Think I might be on the same waitlist as you for that extra fuel capacity. Hoping soon after the New Year. Will certainly be nice for extended trips. Those guys were in the same neighborhood as you at Expo West last year if I remember correctly.
That part where you needed the front locker I bet MT tires would’ve made a huge difference , sigh....life is full of compromises. MT’s are not good for daily driving but are great off-road. Maybe hybrid tires like the ridge grappler and toyo rt’s would be good.
Beautiful footage. Hope you weren’t too close to those wold pigs! They can be really fierce if they feel threatened. I tow a trailer too (home made), and I’ve read many comments on forums about staying in 4th gear to avoid overheating the transmission, and people installing transmission coolers. Have you ever had any issues with the transmission?
Did you know the EPA pays big money to gas can designers to expressly make them leak on you? I am amazed at how well they leak. Even the most esoteric ones leak. You will love your new oversize gas tank.
Queen? You’ve been to Queen, NM?? Yea! We went down to Dog Canyon, via Queen earlier this year. Odd thing just outside of Queen, we pulled over next to a stock tank when we got a sliver of cell coverage. While the boss lady checked email I walked over and looked in the stock tank and it was full of GOLD FISH. No kidding, the dang stock tank in the middle on no-freaking-where was full of fat gold fish. BTW, Dog Canyon (TX) is in Guadalupe NP but it seems to be a secret. Nobody but the volunteers were there.
if i could get your ARB sound one more time..LOL miss the family ,But i do enjoy my Private trips too. you do an amazing job. as said in the past. you should be doing videos for some company. you do an amazing job. enjoy the adventure
Can anyone explain to me why there are gates on those public forest roads? Are they okay to open, enter, close like he did as long as there is no private sign? Not sure if they are simply to keep animals out.
lots of public land areas have deals to allow grazing. people trailer thousands of cows hundreds of miles and drop them off in there for a few months. everything is open to the public and allowed but yea, it's to keep the animals inside. basically if there's no sign saying otherwise or lock you're usually good to go but best to check a resource before doing so. the little sign in the first clip is a "close the gate" sign.
Nice scenery. air compressor probably needs a new valve, a rebuild and you will get 5 more years. It may get to hot a need more ventilation, maybe cut a hole in your floor to cool it down. (kidding) Merry Christmas to your family especially the little one, I hope She gets spoiled some this year.
I am so homesick. My son won't even watch because you are in our home area and doesn't want to get homesick too. Been watching you all day. Thanks for the pleasure I have had. A year and a half and we're there. Red sands, White Sands, and Lincoln National Forest here we come!

Absolutely amazing work with the cameras and drones Kevin, especially on a solo trip!! 👍👍😎
From Australia. Ronny Dahl would be proud of you. Getting into camp after dark. Love your chanel.
I think the ARB did a great job considering it's use. I also think you're fortunate to have it break where you're at. Doesn't sound like you're too remote.
Tires can run on pretty low psi, even on the street. Knew someone who ran 15psi all the time.
You can fix that slow gas can problem, vent it drill a hole for a tire valve stem leave the valve core out uncap it when filling

“Because I can.” 👍
Let’s see, $36,000 for that trailer? I could buy a second 4Runner for that money...why? Because I can.

Had to chuckle a bit. Had similar 'cattle on the trail' experience on Elk Canyon Rd earlier today east of Mayhill, NM. Always fun to see.

The southwest landscapes never disappoint. Great camera work and thanks for sharing.

broken parts are just a good reason to upgrade!
SO COOL seeing all of the Javelina! There was even a baby!
I recently experienced failure on my arb compressor after 4 years. I was lucky enough to have a small viar compressor air up my tires.

How does 57 gallons of fuel sound?? HEAVY!!!
I'm thinking of putting a matte wrap on that hood scoop. It's annoying having the sun in your eyes...

I love cruising around up in the Guads and I know just how intense the wind can get up there.

I was imaging, digging a hole and a cross in the ground with the dates for the Air Compressor

How is the cell boaster antenna working for you?
In all the gates I have been through, I have never seen a horseshoe as a holder, that was awesome.
Cool homestead. Those ocotillo plants are really cool. We had those in SoCal. Great episode. Thanks

57 gallons of fuel sounds like 340 pounds. Something to consider when on rough/steep roads.
I think you’ve done enough off pavement travel to know what psi works for you. People also forget tire construction plays into it. 11 psi in an LT tire might flex the same as 18 psi in a C load range. Just depends.

when you get the long range fuel tank you should keep the jerrys and see how far you can go with only what the vehicle can carry!
With the hoodie, gloves and sunglasses l wasn’t sure weather you we’re adding fuel or stealing it.... 😁
The Blu TPMS seems nice, but seems like a lot more work to put back on each time you air up and down the tires.
Seems like by the time that sensor registers a high temp you tire would already be nuked since it is so far removed from the tread and sidewalls.
That's why the threshold adjustment is important. 👍

Am i crazy, but in video at 24:56 your 23zero tent doesn't sit straight on your trailer rack ? Just look at .
Sounds like 342lbs not to mention whatever cell it’s being held in.
👍
a 57 gallon fuel tank is going to put a tremenous amount of extra weight on the 4Runner that already struggles for power when needed. Just saying.
