- New Mexico is highly underrated as an overlanding destination. The Lincoln National Forest in Southern New Mexico is remote, rugged, and gorgeous! We took off on a 4 day adventure with our friends Brad and Regina from @TrailRecon and an incredible time!

Loved how you captured the adventure! Regena and I had a blast with you all on this trip!
I’m ready to go back and get to the Gila!!!
Welcome to New Mexico. The place where you can’t get past a gate lol
I love when two of my favorite RUclipsrs colab and make amazing videos. Because of my work schedule, I can only get out a few time a year. Your videos really help me mentally escape even if only for a short while. Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you so much!
7:24 Welcome to New Mexico. Ranchers have their own set of laws. Lock any gate, block any road.
Two of my favorite channels doing a collaboration on one of the places I’ll be visiting later on this year.
Singing "Just the two of us!" has single-handedly earned my like & sub! 😍
Book club!! Yes!! 10:29
I am from El Paso tx i used to spend a lot of my grade school and high school in New Mexico and Texas desert and forest beautiful place used to camp with the bare necessities bathed in the streams lakes lagoons I had a blast i do miss the times.
The next time your in New Mexico you got to check out the Gila National Forest awesome wheeling and camping enjoy are beautiful state good to sow you all out this way
That was originally our plan but the weather kept us south.
I noticed that your wife is walking every now and then and the weight loss is very noticeable. I too struggle big time with that and just wanted her to know she looks amazing and keep up the good work.
Yes she is killing it!!! I'm so proud of her.
Thank you so so much!
Love that even when camping, Matt still uses the hair gel
My hair pretty much stays that way. Lol.
Running with the cows is epic 😂
My 2 fave Overlanding RUclipsrs take a trip together - sweet! Looking forward to the next one 👊
Thanks!!!
I see you washed your jeep!! 😂 we liked the exhaust clip after hearing that 392 start up too 😂
I live in Lincoln county New Mexico in the capitan mountains.
Excellent work . Like the team , just need to add Marco ? Team Red , White & Blue .
I love Cara so much more after this trip, she gave you so much grief and it was hysterical. Looks like a fun trip. Glad to see you all enjoying each other's company.
What a view, it's beautiful, STOP IT.. hahaha 😂 love your videos
I chuckled at every "Stop it!".
Two of the best channels on the internet. Appreciate both of your work to inform and entertain us. Great stuff...
Wow, thank you!
I'm so glad that you guys decided to turn around and didn't "forced" your way through when facing the pad-lock.
You guys crack me up!! It's gorgeous "beautiful -- Stop IT!! 🤣 New Mexico is beautiful !!
NM is one of the most spectacular and beautiful places I've ever lived. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
One might call it “epic”.
I vote yes for Cara's Overland Book Club! :)
Loved the calibration of both channels! Watched both to completion, great job!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your trip brought back memories of when I was stationed at White Sand Missile Base. Did a lot of wheeling in that park.
Awesome video. I watched Brads yesterday and I’m grateful yours popped up. As a fellow Arkansas native. I’m glad to have found your channel and how to catch up on the trail some day
Awesome! Thank you!
I feel like Goose needs a harness fitted with a GoPro, so we can get the dog's eye view of the cave and stuff. Great video as always, Matt. Love to see you guys out with other amazing folks.
I’ve said the same thing!!!!
Your storytelling (& videography) is getting better and better! Yes to the book club & Goose needs his own pet gear line. Gooose Gear!
Thanks so much!!
Great video, New Mexico specifically the southern portion Carlsbad over to Gila National forest was my first ever road trip. The Gila Cliff dwellings was awesome. I'm planning the enchanted Rockies trail hopefully this year we'll see.
I was born and raised in Southern New Mexico and hunted the Lincoln national forest most of my life I could take you to places you wouldn't believe. I can even take you to the point where John Tunsel was shot if you don't know who he is he was the one that took in Billy the Kid and made him a regulator for the Lincoln County wars. You're only seeing a fraction of it, a lot of it is owned by the muscularo Apache tribe
Loved this! Your reference to the "elusive Brad" had me giggling! 😆♥It was also nice getting to see everything we "missed" with the footage of you and Cara inside your rig (yes to the book club!). And I still do not understand how Cara can read in a moving vehicle, let alone on those crazy bumpy roads! 😂
I’m ready to go back!!! Let’s go.
The old jt sounds like a sherman tank rolling down the trail lol. Great vid.
All that noise was coming from a dirty sway bar link. Cleaned it up with a little WD40 and its all gone.
O boy, both of ya in 1, keepthat going
Lol loved the revving of the engines 😂
Sounds like your gladiator needs a Good greasing ..but this was a great video .would be a great trail to take for a family trip.
I greased all the things when I got home. Didn't fix it. Turns out it was a dirty sway bar link causing all the noise. A little WD40 cleaned it up and no more squeaking.
It sounds like a Sherman tank 😂
It’s awesome to see the same trip from two different perspectives. Noticing that Sully is getting a little squeaky! Just shows that it gets used.
Thanks! I greased everything when I got home and turns out it was just a dirty sway bar link causing all that noise. LOL
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures is always something small that makes the most noise
Awesome video thanks
I think it says plenty about the four of you that so many of us put both channels in our top go to. I hope I see you on the trail someday.
Goes off road in the sticky mud holes here in the Ozarks. Won't go through cow poop.
I can completely relate
Hope it isn't inappropriate to say, but Cara (Kara?) is melting away! Great job!
what do u mean
Cara! And thank you! ❤ I appreciate it.
I got a good chuckle out of that start-up rev comparison, meanwhile I'm over here in 2.3L I4, haha
Y'all are pretty close to where we are! We've been working near Jal, NM for the last couple of years. Coming from Louisiana, this was VERY different! Y'all enjoy!!!!
Dang wish I could of joined y’all! I’m out here in Carlsbad NM working on remote location I’ve explored a little bit but not as much as you 4 have in the video would love to overland with part of the community!
Sully sounds like a Sherman tank😂
Really like the New Mexico area.Great trails south of truth or consequences
This is great to watch I like brads video on your gladiator build too
Love Lincoln Forest and the Sacramento Mountains! Cloud Croft is a cute little town and near by Ruidoso has an awesome Ski Resort!
From someone from Minnesota, turn your bright lights off and turn on your amber lights. You will see better in the snow. Yes, please start a book club, I wanna know what you are reading.
I don't have amber in the front. I need some.
That was fun! Thank you so much for sharing your adventure!
Nice area. I live down here. I'm always amazed how the desert meets the mountain's. The Gila's are also a great place to explore. Its cool you guys appreciate what we have to offer. Most locals don't take advantage of the freedoms we have down here. Be safe and enjoy.
This was an amazing trip video and I'm super jealous.
I enjoyed it. Thanks!
I don't know how I'm ever going to be able to afford a jeep! I need this!
Great video. This area is a couple hours from me and I didn’t know it had all of this. We spend all of our time around Ruidoso and the Red River/Taos area. Gonna have to check it out, thanks guys.
Sweet drone sequences! I dug the cinnamon hot chocolate cam convo and neat to see “elusive Brad” filming behind the scenes 😅. My cousin owns Beer Creek Brewery south of Santa Fe and was wondering about the trails when I visit! Great trip and enjoyed the candid narration. Still watching. Thx 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Thanks so much!
So cool watching your video along with my other favorite youtubber's. Looks like it was a fantastic time I am jealous! You two should come visit Idaho and western Montana.
I want to get back to Idaho so bad!!!
you guys are truly talented....
Looks like another great adventure, Great Video.
So much to be explored in the Guads. So much history here!
My wife always brought a book for when my old 79 Dodge would inevitably have an electrical breakdown. My Ramcharger spent most of its life in the AZ and NV deserts. The insulation got to point of flaking off. Finally replacing it.
Great adventure! Really like it when you share adventures y’all go on as a couple. Like the mix of raw wheeling and the “Story Til Now” like music/drone shots. Great editing and production on this video. Safe travels from Mid-TN. 👍
Awesome video! Unfortunately, I work out here around Carlsbad NM a lot (that's where i am now) on a Snubbing rig and this weather does change drastically quite often. Also dealing with the closed gates a lot that property owners kind of over step, can be a bit frustrating. But none the less, it does make for fun and crazy turn of events.. Got to keep it spicy, lol.
Really beautiful ! And I'm not mocking you lol
😂
Awesome one of your best!
Wow, thanks!
My wife and I need to go with y’all cause we have a white gladiator red white and blue
Got all cinematic with this one.
Your drone footage is spectacular
Thank you!
Good to know about the D rated tires. I'll need to look into what my new E rated tires should be aired down to.
Need to keep up on the chassis lube on the Gladiator. Especially with all those Ozark water crissing you do. The Gladiator is noticeably squeaky.
I did as soon as I got home. Didn't fix it. All that noise was coming from a dirty sway bar link. Cleaned it up with a little WD40 and its all gone.
Love following you guys on your adventures. Any chance you share some of these trails? I'd love to do this route!
all my GPS data is shared with our Patreon supporters
Matt, that trail is still smoother than the interstates in New Mexico. 😂😂
27:20 lair of the chupacabra!
Very possible. lol
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Great video!
Great Video!!
Thanks!
Shouldve started in hess hills and worked your way east towards Carlsbad
Epik trail awesome video 🤘👍
Thanks 👍
Great job on this one guys! New Mexico looks to be very beautiful and unique. My wife and I are new to overlanding, but cant wait to get out there. I am in the process of building the rig now (2020 F250), and you have been a huge inspiration in my build. Hope to see you out there sometime, would love to shoot the breeze for a few minutes.

Also, more than likely that was a descanso rather than a grave that you had lunch near. It’s a really interesting cultural tradition here.
Hi there, I would love to know the pathway through with no fences you took. I live in Albuquerque and would love to make this my next local trip. Any information would be great. I have a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon that I think is the greatest offroad vehicle of all time, Love the channel! Keep it up!
NM and West Texas have been getting non-stop wind storms for what seems like the entire month of February... it's been brutal up here in the panhandle. Sorry y'all had to deal with it! Seems like it was a good trip regardless, though.
It was great!!!
Will there be a part 2? Not sure if you ventured north to Cloudcroft but that a nice little town with excellent bbq. I’m from Las Cruses and enjoyed seeing part of the state I’ve never seen before.
Part 2 comes Friday.
Sheltered camping spots down at Sitting Bull Falls. A bit of a backtrack from there, but good sheltered camp spots. Or head south at the intersection for El Pas Gap and go to Dog Canyon.
having no agenda--you are absolutely right! That is the best time, just enjoying the journey. Nice!
Question--what is that dash cam you are using? It is taking awesome quality vids and swivels with the vehicle rocking. I have a dash cam, but it rattles and takes crappy vids.
Thank you for inspiring me to get outside!
Thanks! No agenda is the best!! the dash footage is a GoPro 10.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thank you for the info. I am looking forward to the next vid
Great video! Was wondering if you could have done it with the Conqueror?
Thanks! Could we have, yes. Would I want to? No. This trail would have been fine but we got on some tighter trails that you'll see in the next video that I wouldn't have wanted to take it on. It would have made it just fine, but it wouldn't have been fun. lol.
New Mexico is out next adventure, thank you Matt.
Highly recommend.
You put some time into editing this one. Well done.
Thanks!
oh gosh! I know just what you mean when you say the word beautiful starts to lose meaning! When we took our jeep up to Ouray, Silverton, Durango last summer we made a game of only using the word "WOW!" 50 times on the trip. Find other ways to express the awe of the mountains. Stunning! Fantastic! Epic! Incredible, Inspiring! So vast, Gorgeous, Breathtaking! Amazing! Freaking done! LOL Its a fun game ;-) Also I have switched to audio books completely. Reading the screen is horrible for your eyes. Stay safe! xo
The light on the kindle offers a warm tone so it’s not harsh at all!
What you did is cool, but sometime venture a little further West and check out the Gila National Forest in Southern NM. BTW I was just on an overland/roadtrip through the midwest, Ozarks included. I reside in the mountains of New Mexico. Also, if State land is leased by a rancher, it will sometimes be locked. The state sells an annual permit allowing access to these areas.
The Gila was our plan but the weather kept us further south.
love the Same the cooking guy reference. Hes my fav....And i thought I was the weird one
I've lived here in New Mexico since 1986 and it's been frustrating for me as well.
Matt, I see that you pumped 86 octane in Carlsbad. There are some that use 93 octane for peek engine performance while off-road. What has been your experience with your Gladiator?
I've never used anything but normal regular gas and have never had an issue. I've never heard of using high octane gas for off roading.
Cool deal! How many miles have you racked up on the gladiator
51,000 now.
Awesome video! What are the coordinates or town of the start of the Lincoln forest trail. Not too far from that area and would love to take that trail!
Just south of Carlsbad is where we started on BLM land heading west to the national forest.
Make sure to tell the wife that the scenery is beautiful, lol
Hey Matt, when you are off exploring and you come across a locked gate, do you mark it on the map so others can see there is a locked gate?
Yes I do
It looks like a new spare tire. Did you have to replace a tire after the flat?
I got all new tires after our last trip in the Ozarks when I got the flat.
Great Video! Matt I’m curious to know what’s causing all the squeaking from your Jeep? It sounds like an old covered wagon when you drive by the camera! 😄
Not only are your cinematography and editing skills better than Brad's, but I also trust your version of events to be true and accurate.
Just curious, how many miles did you get out of the "C" rated Patagonia tires before switching to the "D" rated? Great video!
27k miles. They still had 11/32 tread depth on them.
We are in NWA. Would enjoy running with you guys sometime
The quickest way to ruin hot chocolate, is to add cinnamon.
It's ok to be wrong. LOL
